The Police, U2, The Smiths, Phil Collins, The La's, Counting Crows, The Dream Academy, XTC, Peter Gabriel & Genesis. Playliste: XTC - Making plans for Nigel Peter Gabriel - Intruder U2 - A day without me Phil Collins - In the air tonight The Police - Every little thing she does is magic Frida - I know there's something going on Hall & Oates - Maneater Kirsty MacColl - A new England Genesis - The Brazilian The Smiths - Ask The Dream Academy - Power to believe Phil Collins - Colours The La's - There she goes Sting - Fields of gold Dave Matthews Band - Rapunzel Counting Crows - Why should you come when I call? U2 - Sometimes you can't make it on your own The Killers - Battle born

Hearing God in a dream can be a life-changing experience, but it can also be a confusing one! Dreams speak a symbolic and sometimes confusing language and the process of interpretation is not well understood, making it subject to mistakes and abuse. It's no wonder the claim to hearing God in a dream is often met with skepticism, disinterest and even mockery. Dream interpretation is more art than science, so it isn't always straightforward or formulaic, but there are some principles we can learn that will help us hear God more clearly in this creative and powerful way. In this episode of the show, I talk with British dreams expert Tony Cooke about the common mistakes people make when learning to hear God in dreams. We unpack the dynamics of the God-dream experience so that you can confidently discern God's voice as we sleep. You'll discover: A little of Tony's back story and how he became interested in dream interpretation when prophetic experiences broke out in his church. Mistake 1: misunderstanding the symbolism of people in our dreams. One of the biggest mistakes people make is when they see a related person in their dream and they assume the dream is about that person. Mistake 2: over-reliance on dream dictionaries. A dream dictionary is helpful in teaching us about symbolism, but has limited use, because symbols must be understood in the context of the dreamer's life. Mistake 3: fixating on individual symbols while not considering the bigger picture. Mistake 4: dream interpreters who lapse into prophecy and thereby add to the message of the dream. Mistake 5: the inability to discern between soul and spirit in a dream. A reminder that making mistakes is part of the learning process! Given our propensity for error, humility in dream interpretation is crucial. We also need to receive training and be willing to reflect on our experiences in community. The biggest mistake of all is not getting trained properly. Humility says, “I need to know how to do this properly or I can do damage.” Subscribe to God Conversations with Tania Harris and never miss an episode! About Tony Cooke Tony is the founder of The Dream Academy (www.thedreamacademy.online), an online training and support site for biblical dream interpreters. He and his wife Dwee planted pastored the Cheltenham Vineyard Church in 2009 and later continued to teach and train in many countries including The Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, India, South Africa, USA, Spain and Ireland. Tony is also on the Leadership Board of Patria Ministries International, a global family of businesses, churches, ministries and itinerant ministers which provides a highly interdependent personal environment where leaders can build relationships and be strengthened and equipped for greater Kingdom influence. Tony and his wife Dwee have two grown up children and live on the south coast of England.

Time to wrap up our New Wave Game and see if anyone survives! We're down to the final three volumes of the CD series Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80s, and either Kevin or Kornflake could still win. (But come on, our money is on Kornflake...) And we've reached the mid-80s, when there was no shortage of new wave hits in the Top 40. So we're talking about acts like Wang Chung, Thompson Twins, Katrina and the Waves, Animotion, Tears for Fears, Bananarama, and Men at Work. It seemed like nothing was off limits on the pop charts. A musical about chess? Sure. Vietnam-era news clips set to a dance beat? Absolutely. The Dream Academy had a hit that sounded like nothing else. Arcadia had a hit that sounded exactly like Duran Duran, and with good reason. There's even a trio of New England-area new wave bands represented here. (We all know 'Til Tuesday, but do you remember Miracle Legion? How about Rubber Rodeo?) So enjoy one last round of new wave madness, and then we can relax. Just like Frankie said. Featuring their three official albums and including all official B-sides and remixes and unreleased tracks. The Dream Academy were a British band featuring singer/guitarist and songwriter Nick Laird- Clowes, multi-instrumentalist Kate St. John, and keyboardist/songwriter Gilbert Gabriel. In I985 the group achieved worldwide success following the release of their first single ‘Life In A Northern Town' which saw their subsequent debut album going into the American Top 20. Their atmospheric music was the result of an unusual musical line-up of oboe and cor anglais, string synthesiser and acoustic guitar, while their three albums for Warner/Reprise brought them a large and devoted following. Their close musical association with David Gilmour saw him co-producing two of their three albums. Other co-productions included both Lyndsey Buckingham and Hugh Padgham. The cinematic nature of their recordings saw the band being asked to contribute music to films by both John Hughes (Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Trains, Planes and Automobiles) and Diane Keaton (Heaven). The group disbanded in 1990 and the intervening years have seen extensive sampling and cover versions of their debut single, (most notably by Dario G's ‘Sunchyme' and Sugarland And Little Big Town's reworking of ‘Life In A Northern Town') resulting in further international chart success and a Grammy nomination.

In episode 22, Johnny talks to music supervisor, movie producer and music manager Tarquin Gotch. Tarquin's career saw him rise to Head of A&R at Arista Records in the 1980s - overseeing acts like The Thompson Twins, Simple Minds, The Stray Cats, and The Beat. He then moved to Warners, transitioning Prince, Madonna and many other American acts into the UK. Moving into music management he oversaw The Beat, Stephen Duffy, The Dream Academy, Hugh Harris, General Public, XTC, Roger McGuinn from the Byrds and Jon Lord from Deep Purple. In a chance encounter in 1984, through his actress and model friend Kelly LeBrock, Tarquin met writer-director John Hughes on the set of Weird Science. He went on to become music supervisor on the John Hughes films Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Some Kind of Wonderful, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, She's Having A Baby, The Great Outdoors and Uncle Buck. Running John Hughes' film company in the 1990s, Tarquin executive produced the films Curly Sue, Dutch, Only The Lonely, and Home Alone. He has since produced both film and TV including the 1998 film Still Crazy, the TV series Crocodile Shoes with Jimmy Nail, the documentary series Cars That Rock with Brian Johnson, and the return of prison sitcom Porridge for the BBC. Tarquin currently manages Brian Johnson of AC/DC, and founding members of the Police, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland. Johnny's talk with Tarquin covers his work curating Life Moves Pretty Fast, a boxset celebrating the music of John Hughes soundtracks, released on Demon Records in 2022. They discuss Tarquin's time working alongside John Hughes and John Candy, his process of putting songs in front of John Hughes for consideration, and which composer he believes revolutionised the art of film scoring. This conversation was recorded online at the beginning of February 2024. Thanks to James Van As who wrote and performed the brilliant music (check out James' Loco Looper game) and to Willow Van As who designed the amazing artwork and provided general podcast support. On this week's episode, we revisit an artist we discussed during our first season - Van Morrison when we talked about his 1974 album Veedon Fleece. This time we discuss his 1986 LP No Guru. No Method, No Teacher. Morrison is known for making albums rich in spiritual themes and Celtic lore. Around the time of No Guru, he was also writing songs from the perspective of a curmudgeonly angry guy complaining that "copycats have ripped off his songs". While this album has more than it should of the latter, it is also steeped in the former, with lush string arrangements, beautiful oboe and cor anglais parts (played by the Dream Academy's Kate St. John), and a band firing on all cylinders. It is an album of thematic contrasts, held together by its production; and one portending things to come for Morrison. It is also an album cited by many as a favorite among Van Morrison album.
