The David Alliance TDAGiantSlayer@Gmail.com Garth Heckman How bad did you want a relationship with your spouse? I eyed her up during the whole service. I invited her to Youth group. I ran out to the parking lot to ask her on a date… I lied - THEN I broke up with my GF I would drive 45 mn to pick her up… I would go weeks with just 2-3 hours of sleep a night I spent 1400 on her for our first Christmas …I was all in - I had to have this woman as my wife! God wanted to have a relationship with us so bad, - he created us to do it. - Then once we blew it, he sent his son to die so that it could be restored! - on top of that he provided a way so that we could be with him FOREVER. Gods intent, work and provision is amazing - There is no doubt, he wants to know us!

This episode of Big Blend Radio features Boone Froggett, lead singer and guitarist of OTIS. Kentucky born and bred, OTIS is a young, hard rocking quartet who performs and plays their exciting music like they've been around for 40 years. Hear about their music background, latest single "Last Fool in Line," touring, and shows. Alongside Boone, John Seeley (bass), Alex Wells (guitar), and Dale Myers (drums), these tight-knit guys blend roots, blues, classic rock, soul, and, of course, Southern rock. While drawing inspiration from some of the all-time blues/soul greats. OTIS has created an original sound reminiscent of some of the great blues-rock/Southern rock bands. The band latest single, "Last Fool in the Line," is a ferociously rockin' song that was recorded in a live full band take at The Rock House in Franklin, Tennessee. The single was produced, engineered, and mixed by renowned Grammy Award winning musician Kevin McKendree (Brian Setzer, George Thorogood) and mastered by Ty Tabor of the acclaimed US rock band Kings X. Keep up with OTIS at https://theotisband.com/
We've covered a lot of great bands and artists in our podcasts, but it is a rare occasion when we get to explore a group that has defined an entire rock genre. The Cure are considered to be the defining band within the goth rock movement. Formed in 1978 out of the post-punk era, this West Sussex band would grow into an international cult favorite, complete with black wardrobe, smeared lipstick, and wild hair. The Cure is considered to have hit the height of their commercial appeal with Wish, their ninth stuio album. Personnel for this album were Boris Williams on percussion (his last album appearance with the group), Perry Bamonte on guitars and keyboards (his first appearance as a member of the group), Pori Thompson on guitar (his last appearance with the group for 16 years), Simon Gallop on bass, and Robert Smith on vocals, keyboards, guitar, and bass. The Cure would see a lot of personnel changes through the years, with Robert Smith being the only consistent member throughout, and the driving force behind the band.Wish was written with a lighter alternative rock sound than their previous albums, making many songs more accessible both to the less devoted fan and to commercial radio. It went to number 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the US, and number 1 on the UK albums chart.Bruce presents this monster of goth rock in today's podcast. A Letter to EliseThe third single from the album had its first release prior to the album on a 1991 episode of MTV Unplugged. It is a song about resignation, of realizing that things are just not going to work out. It went to number 2 on the US Alternate Airplay charts.HighOne of the more upbeat songs, this is the lead single from the album. It went to number 1 on the US Modern Tracks, and 42 on the Billboard Hot 100. It chronicles the feelings of love and infatuation. Despite their reputation, many Cure songs are not dark and melancholy. To Wish Impossible ThingsThis is a deeper track, and a darker one. It is about relationships generally, and more specifically looking back on a relationship that is no more. The title comes from the idea that selfish wishes do not turn out well when they are granted.Friday I'm In LoveThis was the band's second single and the big hit from the album. It peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 (the last top 40 hit for the Cure to date), and at number 1 on the Billboard Modern Tracks chart. This surprisingly happy song about looking foward to Friday has become one of the signature songs from the group. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Yo Cousin Vinny by Joe PesciThe starring actor from "My Cousin Vinny" takes a comedic turn with this song inspired by the movie "My Cousin Vinny." STAFF PICKS:To Be With You by Mr. BigLynch starts off the staff picks with an acoustic rock ballad. Front man and co-writer Eric Martin provides lead vocals to this song which topped the Billboard Hot 100. It was a single off the album "Lean Into It," and is considerdd the groups most successful song to date. Black Flag by Kings XRob's staff pick is the lead single off Kings X's self-titled album, their fourth studio album, and the first on Atlantic Records. Kings X has often been labeled as a Contemporary Christian album, but they have inspired a number of prog rock groups through the years. Unlike many bands, the core lineup of the band has remained the same for over forty years. The End of Everything by The Charlatans UKWayne brings us a deeper cut from a group from the midlands in England. This song's lyrics are inspired by a friend feigning an illness so he could leave the army. The band appended the "UK" at the end of their name to avoid confusion with a 60's American band also called "the Charlatans."Until Your Love Comes Back Around by RTZBruce wraps up the staff picks with a ballad from a short-lived band out of Boston. Former members of the band Boston, including guitarist Barry Goudreau and vocalist Brad Delp formed RTZ with keyboardist Mrian Maes, percussionist Dave Stefanelli, and bassist Tim Archibald. This song went to number 26 on the US charts. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Elmira St. Boogie by Danny GattonThis instrumental gets us moving as we close out this week's podcast. Colossal Street Jam has a new album coming out in January, 2024. We had to the chance to sit down with lead singer Gene Potts to learn all about this exciting band! We take a listen to the title track, No Way To Live as well. Join us as we talk Rock and learn all about Colossal Street Jam!Rock and Roll music that DESERVES to be heard! Here's a little background on the band:It's once been said that all roads lead to home… That's precisely where this long-time band of brothers & creative soulmates found themselves, when their well-traveled musical roads converged. It was at this poignant juncture that COLOSSAL STREET JAM was born. One may define their electrifying synergy as the cosmic melding & explosive concoction of abstract minds, unique talent, inherent soul, and tireless passion for their beloved craft. Having a deep & mutual admiration for one another, as well as having tremendous respect for their many, and diverse collective influences, who helped shape their gritty, melodic, psychedelically tinged hard rock stylings, each member truly brings their own individuality, and nuance to the mix. An eclectic potpourri for the senses, CSJ ultimately, and seamlessly fuse their independent ideas to deliver a singular vision & signature sound that can easily be coined as “New Classic Rock” for the ages. This hard-driving, 70's inspired, 5-piece ensemble is comprised of Gene Potts (vocals)… Sal Marra (guitar/vocals)… Tony Flora (bass)… Dave Halpern (drums)… and Eric Safka (keys). With their roots firmly planted and their musical heritage tightly in place, CSJ has long been an integral part the legendary Asbury Park, NJ music scene. Always proud to honor these roots, and the place that gave them their start, the band forever carries with them that feeling of tradition, and heart that has endeared them to growing audiences both nationally and internationally. In 2016, the band's release, “Living Free”, was met with critical acclaim and worldwide press. The albums single, “Songbird” received extensive radio airplay both locally, and globally. In 2018, that same record won an award for Australian Indie Album of The Year For Internet Radio. It subsequently remained on the Indie charts, Down Under, for 6 months. Later that year, in November of 2018, CSJ released their follow up album, “Just Take Hold”… Once again, they were greeted with extensive Indie and College radio airplay for that record's namesake single, “Just Take Hold”, as well as for their cover version of the Sugarloaf classic, “Green Eyed Lady”. In May and December of 2019, CSJ completed two successful European tours, which journeyed them throughout The Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. COLOSSAL STREET JAM has shared stages nationwide with the likes of Mark Farner, of Grand Funk Railroad, Robbie Krieger of The Doors, The Black Crowes, Kings X, Stone Temple Pilots, Rival Suns, Blackberry Smoke, The Drive By Truckers, The Hold Steady, Gov't Mule, Johnny Winter, Sebastian Bach, Bruce Dickinson, Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Morse, Zebra, Deep Purple, Leslie West, Clarence Clemons, and countless others.

“I want you to listen! I'm talking to you…” One could easily argue that SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH, the fifth studio release from Birmingham's own BLACK SABBATH, is their “Black Album” moment, in that there are a multitude of different dimensions present on this album that were not as evident or pronounced as on the first four albums, including the addition of synthesizers, orchestras, and atmosphere. Drummer, singer, and songwriter Jerry Gaskill founded the progressive metal band Kings X in 1983. A native of Bridgeton, New Jersey, Gaskill began playing at a young age, forming a band with his father and brother and playing his first gig at the age of seven. After playing in bands throughout high school, he became heavily involved in the Christian faith and enrolled at Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. Not long after arriving in Springfield, he befriended bassist dUg Pinnick and the two formed a sturdy rhythm section, backing up artists like future Petra singer Greg X. Volz and guitarist Phil Keaggy. After trying out various combos of their own, Gaskill and Pinnick were joined by guitarist Ty Tabor and the trio, then called Sneak Preview, relocated to Houston, Texas. Changing their name to Kings X in 1987, they eventually signed with metal label Megaforce and released their debut, Out of the Silent Planet, a year later. A prog trio with a strong melodic bent and elaborate three-part harmonies, Kings X have enjoyed a successful career with stints on Atlantic, Metal Blade, and InsideOut Music. Gaskill's contributions as drummer, writer, and occasional lead singer are an integral part of Kings X's sound. In 2004, he released his solo debut, Come Somewhere, which was recorded and produced by bandmate Ty Tabor. In addition to his work with Kings X, Gaskill has contributed to side projects by his two bandmates as well as albums by blues guitarist Jay Hooks and New Jersey songwriter Bob Burger. After suffering a heart attack in early 2012, Gaskill's home was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy later that same year. Waylaid by a second heart attack in 2014, he rallied to release his second solo LP, Love & Scars. The album was released in October 2015 and featured guest spots from Billy Sheehan, Phil Keaggy, Earl Slick, and others. In this episode, Jerry talks about: Kings X new album - Three Sides of One Insight to Jerry's time feel Surviving two heart attacks Wedges over in-ear monitors The popularity of Kings X among the musician community Moving away from the Christian music industry in the early days The profound inspiration that John Bonham had on his playing Performing with Bruce Springsteen
Carlotta is an Australian cabaret performer and television celebrity. She began her career as an original member of the long-running Les Girls cabaret show, performed entirely by heavily costumed males, which started in 1963 in the purpose built Les Girls building which stood on a prominent corner in the heart of Sydney's Kings Cross, New South Wales. The building was owned by Sydney identity Abe Saffron. Carlotta rose through the ranks of the show to eventually become the show's compere and its most famous member. Les Girls and Carlotta soon became must-see attractions for visitors to Sydney and the show was popular with visiting international celebrities. The show continued in the Les Girls building until 1993, the Les Girls show went on-the-road, touring Australia, which inspired the film "Priscilla Queen of the Desert". The Les Girls building, which was still standing intact with original 1960s features, throughout the 1990s was the venue for alternative cabaret, including the much loved Sunday night club The Tender Trap (club). Carlotta was featured in the soap opera Number 96 in 1973 as Robyn Ross, the new girlfriend of Arnold Feather. In the story it was soon revealed that Robyn was in fact a transsexual showgirl, a revelation that led to the character's quick departure from the show. To preserve the shock ending to this storyline the true identity of Robyn's portrayer was kept secret from all but a few central cast and crew members of the series, her scenes were shot on a closed set, and Carlotta was credited as "Carolle Lea". Carlotta's sex-change operation in the early 1970s was not the first such procedure in Australia, but due to her celebrity status it became the first to receive publicity there. Carlotta was also one of the inspirations for the film Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. She had a few short breaks from Les Girls for international tours, but overall by the time she left the show for the final time in 1992 she had spent a total of 26 years performing with the troupe. In 2005, she featured in her own half a million dollar stage production, "Carlotta's Kings X", presented at the Big Top, Luna Park, Sydney. Produced by Brett Elliott and Richard Bernardo, the 90 minute show delivered classic storytelling, stand up comedy, lavish costumes, and team of 'Les Girls' dance performances throughout. Carlotta has toured Australia with her "Carlotta - Queen of the Cross; show and regularly features at all sorts of festivals and gala premieres, including Melbourne's Midsumma, Gold Coast's Glitter and Brisbane's Melt festivals. On 26 January 2020, Carlotta was the recipient of Member (AM) of the Order of Australia (General Division) for significant service to the performing arts, and to the LGBTIQ community. Carlotta returns to the stage in Trevor Ashley's Christmas panto, Moulin Scrooge. The annual entertainment is a much anticipated indulgence on Sydney's theatrical calendar. This follows a triumphant turn earlier in the year, performing in Priscilla; Queen of the Desert at The Star on The Gold Coast. We cannot wait to have her back on the boards in Sydney. Like Dolly Levi returning to Harmonia Gardens - “It's so great to have you back where you belong!” Moulin Scrooge plays the Seymour Centre from December 1st. dUg Pinnick is known first and foremost as the soulful singer and bassist for hard rockers King's X. Born in Joliet, IL, Pinnick discovered rock & roll through such greats as Sly and the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin, while he borrowed from gospel for his singing style. When a gig backing up Christian guitarist Phil Keaggy broke up in the early '80s, Pinnick formed a new band with fellow ex-Keaggy member Jerry Gaskill (drums) and guitarist Ty Tabor. It would take several years of playing covers in bars throughout the South before the new band would click musically and eventually settle on a name: King's X. Signing to Megaforce/Atlantic in 1987, the trio became a favorite with the metal and progressive rock crowd; their music also contained elements of alternative in their hard rock, long before it became en vogue during the '90s. Pinnick is one of the few bassists of hard rock who uses a 12-string bass regularly, which is a major ingredient to the magical King's X sound. dUg sat down with Mistress Carrie to talk about the new Kings-X album, his musical upbringing, songwriting process, the bass, his inspiration, and so much more! Peeeeps it's a whole vibe right now, I'm joined by one of Londons biggest POC LGBT+ club nights Ubn Wld. After hitting up the Valentines event at the Scala in King Cross the link up had to happen. We are serving nothing but top tier convo as you get well acquainted with the creatives and social mission behind the brand. The brand concept through to the monthly sold out parties deserve all the flowers. We leave nothing unsaid and get into heavy hitting conversations around the magnitude and reasoning behind the division between Black and Asian communities and how this translates within the LGBT social and club scene. You know I had to enquire about the condom stand on the first floor. Anywhoooo tune in!
