On a special Mother's Day episode, Gabrielle Traynor joins us for an in depth review of Steve Nicks' debut solo album: Bella Donna. In addition to a track-by-track breakdown, we discuss Stevie being bigger than Fleetwood Mac, why she's an important artist to women, how she represents a strong femininity in both her work and white witch persona, “Edge of Seventeen” vs “Eye of the Tiger”, School of Rock, Stevie making ex boyfriends play guitar on her songs and why we love the early 1980s…!!

This week, we have a 2014 chat with a very enthusiastic Taylor Swift, who is happily promoting her first pure pop album, 1989. It's a brief but very entertaining chat as Taylor riffs about her fans and her new sound. We also have a 2020 chat between Peter Frampton and Marilyn Denis (courtesy of her show, “Marilyn Denis Does A Podcast”). Peter talks about the chaos of the “Frampton Comes Alive” era and how even he got sick of himself. Peter also talks about how his childhood friend David Bowie helped to save his career. A new book called “They Just Seem A Little Weird” details the rise of Aerosmith, Kiss & Cheap Trick in the 1970s. Tom chats with author Doug Brod about the rivalry between KISS & Aerosmith, the unique sound of Cheap Trick and how all three bands are inextricably linked. There's also the cautionary tale of the band Starz, a group that grew from the ashes of a one hit wonder but never managed to hit the heights of success. And on the topic of books… do you have a big music fan in your life who loves to read? Christopher & Tom give you a complete rundown of books that would make a great gift for that person – or yourself. Whether you're a fan of Joni Mitchell, Springsteen, Tom Petty or Steve Nicks or just want to check out some great music fiction – we've got some great recommendations for you!
E atenção para as manchetes de hoje! Conheça a montanha de neve do Black Sabbath. Brass Against e a cachoeira dourada. Janis gritou com Steve Nicks e ela adorou! Tudo isso e muito mais nesse Conflito Armado.
Today I have a bonus episode for you. If you've been listening to my recent episodes you will know that I have been going through a long and painful process of moving house, and as a result I haven't been able to find the time to make new episodes. Today I bring you something which is new, but a little different. I'm going to tell you about some of the challenges I've been facing, and how music – or specifically, musicians – brought me an incredible moment of light and joy. Songs played in this episode: The Chain (Lindsay Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, John McVie, Steve Nicks - 1977) Ukulele is the New Black is produced by me, Meredith Harper. I wrote the theme tune and I performed it with Janine Chandler, Jim Croft, Jasmine Fellows, Paul Marsh, Sandra Shaw and Chris Williams. Seb Carraro does the graphic design. In a potty-mouthed episode of “So There!”, Tom and Gary gift a genius ad campaign to Dick’s Sporting Goods. We also tackle Steve Nicks (not literally), Q-Anon, people named F----, overcompensating bicyclist-avoiders, neighbors we do and don’t like, and recycling bafflement.

This week we welcome back Soft Spot favorite, comedian and actress Merrill Davis. Merrill proudly presents us with her “Softest Spot”... Stevie Nicks! We talk about her regal style, her one of a kind voice, her lyrical genius, her love for her male bandmates... and cocaine! This week we dug a bit deeper and Merrill got beautifully vulnerable about how listening to Stevie Nicks helped her cope with darker, more turbulent times in her life. If anyone has the power to make you feel like an independent bad bitch who can power thru anything, it is definitely Steve Nicks. We also all take turns talking about our dream day with the witchy desert queen and we debate the coke in the butt rumors. The end of the '70s belonged to Fleetwood Mac, but the tensions in the band forced a break to work on solo projects. Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham were first, but Steve Nicks did it best with "Bella Donna," released on this date, July 27, 1981. Allan looks back in today's Classic Rock Calendar... I have a secret to tell you... I'm in love with my sweatpants. We've been in love for sometime actually. It's a give and take affair. I give my sweatpants a warm body to hug and they give me the ability to move around freely with no restriction. Whew! Feels good to get that out there! Scott Rose Style In fact I think I've been wearing the same pair of sweatpants for about 3 years. Side note: they are also maternity sweatpants. Don't judge! They're extra comfy and have so much room in the belly. So when I see moms who are juggling their babies and are also dressed like an adult person, I'm jealous. I want to be able to make smart fashion choices so I feel like a contributing member of society and not a failed gym experiment. Enter my friend and stylist Alexis Scott. Alexis is a mom to her very handsome toddler Wyatt, and she always looks amazing. Her experiences ranges from personal shopping and red carpet styling to editorial styling and creative direction. She's known for her blend of classic styles with her signature bohemian flair. She says she draws inspiration from some of her favorite icons such as Steve Nicks, Jimi Hendrix and Brigitte Bardot. I'm so envious of her obvious style and clear direction when it comes to what to wear. I feel like I draw inspiration from the sale rack at Target. So I need her help! I invited her on the show to get some fashion tips for myself and hopefully some other moms (and dads) out there who are struggling to find their post-baby style. I think we discovered that mine is "active", which is a fancy way of saying sweatpants and t-shirts. Yay! In this episode Alexis gives tips on how to figure out your own style by using what's in your closet. And how it can be changed up depending on the activity you're doing with your kids, going out with friends, or going to work. Also we have a lively discussion about Fashion Police, the fashion industry and how it's changed in the past several decades. Should you spend that extra 50 bucks for a nice pair of jeans? Or stick with what's on sale? Alexis says spend the extra dough! The quality and wearability of a good quality pair of jeans will serve you better in the long run. Alexis styling actress Elizabeth Small I also really wanted to hear her thoughts on fashion for the plus size industry. Or size challenged? Whatever PC term it's being called these days it's nice to know more companies are catering to women of size with more styles and choices. Aside from being completely gorgeous and comfortable in her clothes, Alexis is truly gifted at making other people look and feel good in their clothes. She styles editorial photo shoots, red carpet celebs, and is a personal stylist. She recently started working for a company called Stitch Fix where she can be a personal stylist to anyone in the world all from the comfort of her own home. It's a great way for her to take care of Wyatt, and help moms in need of a fashion make over. You can request her after a brief style questionnaire on the Stitch Fix site. While Alexis can relate to moms and their personal experiences with fashion, she also styles many different kinds of people. So if you find yourself in need of a new look, check out her website and contact her. I was definitely inspired after our conversation to cutback on the residents in my "Sweatpant land" and get out of my style comfort zone.
