This London born drummer started his music career in the mid 80s as drummer and co founder of cult space-rock band Ozric Tentacles. Juggling a busy gig and festival schedule along with art school commitments, he completed his degree at Middlesex Polytechnic in graphic design and then promptly returned to music. His influences range from John Bonham, Phil Colins, Sly Dunbar, Steve Gadd, Billy Cobbam, Bernard Purdie, Alphonse Mouson, Jeff Poccaro, Tony Williams and Lenny White. Joining Acid Jazz act The Sandals as lead guitarist in 1990 saw tours follow and soon after he was introduced to Acid Jazz' new signing Jamiroquai completing frontman JK's new live band line up as their drummer. The band was quickly signed to Sony and he went on to record on the classic chart topping debut Emergency on Planet Earth LP playing drums, some guitar and co-writing the song If I Like It I Do It. A hectic schedule of touring and worldwide promotion followed, including the release of singles Too Young To Die, Blow Your Mind and Emergency on Planet Earth. Leaving the band in 94 and together with musician mates, funky guitar maverick from The Brand New Heavies Simon Bartholomew and bass player Nick Seymour, they formed the supergroup Akimbo also signed to Acid Jazz label. The band headlined Londons' Soho Jazz festival two years running appearing at Ronnie Scotts and Madame JoJo's Deep funk sessions hosted by legendary rare funk Dj and collector Keb Darge. By 1999 Nick and Keb Darge started their own independent label Deep Funk Records. Other collaborations include soul jazz keyboardist Jessica Lauren, Nu soul prodigies Vannessa Simon and Omar, FBI, Raw Deal and The Superphonics. Countless gigs, sessions and jams continue to this day with many of Londons top funk and soul musicians.

Listen down to this remote episode with guest Scott Williamson, a brilliant session musician and a faithful Christian. It was a great time. We discuss the following in our conversation: Can you share with us some of your testimony of coming to Faith in Christ? Tell me some about your background as a musician/artist growing up. How did you get into being a studio musician. Was that something you always wanted to do. How do you stay in demand for people to book you? I know you have worked with some very cool people. Can you share a top highlight? How have you grown as a musician/artist/producer over the years and what are some ways we can steward/hone our crafts? Do you think excellence is value in the arts in the Church? Why does excellence and faithfulness matter? What word would you say to church musicians about their serving on a worship team. As you have played 100s of songs for Christian worship what observations have you had? Anything the church can do better in? How does the Bible inform your life as a studio musician?

Thru the Decades of Music a Mix of Genre's are happening & Trad was a part of the scene Trade Martin's career has covered so many eras of music — as a producer, arranger, songwriter, and even occasionally as a recording artist — that he's almost impossible to pin down as a musical figure. In the late '50s, in a partnership with Johnny Power, he began recording acts such as Johnny & the Jokers and released their work on the Harvard Records label before the two formed Rome Records in 1960. Rome only lasted until 1962, weighted down by its lack of reliable distribution, which prevented the company from succeeding despite signing such talent as the Earls (who went on to score their hits for Old Town Records), Del & the Escorts, and the Glens. Martin usually played all of the instrumental accompaniments for these groups, overdubbing the instruments one at a time. In 1963, following the demise of the Rome label, Martin left the partnership and recorded under his own name on Roulette and other labels through the end of the '60s, and even got an entire LP, Let Me Touch You, out on Buddah Records in 1972. His main activity and success, however, were rooted in his work as a producer, arranger, and songwriter, functions that he has performed over the years in idioms ranging from '60s girl group pop/rock, folk, and electric blues to '70s funk and '80s dance-pop. He has also worked with artists such as Eric Andersen, Ellie Greenwich, Lesley Gore, the Tokens, Ian and Sylvia, Rick Nelson, B.B. King, B.T. Express, Pam Russo, and Solomon Burke. What's more, his songs have been recorded by the likes of Dusty Springfield ("Take Me for a Little While"), Patti LaBelle & the Bluebelles, B.B. King ("Peace to the World"), and Dave Edmunds ("Don't You Double Cross Me"). He has also written and produced a handful of film soundtracks.Martin wrote several film scores. Credits include Made for Each Other, Hail, Stormy Monday, The Inkwell, It's My Party, and West New York.[https://www.trademartinmusic.com© 2022 Building Abundant Success!!2022 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy: https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

How to Build a Sustainable Music Career and Collect All Revenue Streams
This podcast, and the book it's based on, is written for the perspective of the musician who writes, records, and performs live. However listener Brian D wrote to Emily and asked how he can move his career forward without being a songwriter. He said, "I am a drummer trying to get my name out there to bigger artists." And thus this bonus episode titled "How to Be a Session Musician" was born. Host and Author Emily White immediately thought of her longtime friend, Brian Viglione, for this episode. Brian is a world-class drummer whose band The Dresden Dolls has experienced the heights of success while he's parlayed that into a career recording with Nine Inch Nails and playing with one of his childhood heroes, The Violent Femmes. Tune in to hear how Brian has built a successful career as a session, touring musician and more. Also! Anyone who shares this episode before 2/28/22 and tags @emwizzle and @zildjiancompany on Instagram or Twitter, or @emwizzle and @Zildjian on Facebook will be entered in a drawing to win a 16" K Constantinople Crash cymbal from Zildjian! For Episode 10 of Deep Cuts & Coffee, we're really excited to welcome Lexington, KY based (via Washington DC), touring and session multi-instrumentalist, J. Tom Hnatow. J. Tom Hnatow is an experienced musician most well-known for his work as a former member of These United States, and a touring musician with Vandaveer, Horse Feathers, and several other acts. Additionally, his contributions as a producer, engineer, and session musician at the Lexington Recording Co. and from his own studio have lead him to perform on over 250 records. During our chat we covered the ins and outs of learning multiple instruments, the palatability of cheap coffee (and cheap beer), how Tom has performed on a Ringo Starr record, and the nostalgia of the Old West.
