Send us a Text Message. Our latest Bonus Track features a great conversation with the legendary Leland Sklar and director Denny Tedesco regarding his film, The Immediate Family. That's right, someone finally made a movie about Lee Sklar, Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel and Russ Kunkel. If you're a liner notes nerd, you know those names! Here's one example:Jackson Browne's Running on Empty album was one where the music fans got to be part of the process. Because it was recorded live on stage in concert -- and at other points along the touring trail, backstage, in hotel rooms and even on the tour bus - it was a unique and often chaotic experience for those involved in the recording. As Sklar told me, Running on Empty was unlike anything he had ever been a part of. While bands and artists are very used to the uncomfortable nature of playing new material in front of an audience that's just there to hear the hits, Running on Empty captured moments with Browne and the band where they were playing new songs that the audiences hadn't even had a chance to get on an album yet, because they hadn't been recorded. For Sklar, it was just one experience of many songs and albums that he's played on across the decades. While he's worked with countless names, there were a few that kept coming up -- guitarist Waddy Wachtel, guitarist Danny Kortchmar and drummer Russ Kunkel. The four became known as The Section, the '70s heir apparent to The Wrecking Crew of the '60s. Collectively and often together, they've played on thousands of albums. In more recent years, they've acquired a new moniker, one which fits well with their connection to the legendary albums they played on by Warren Zevon, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Don Henley and many others -- The Immediate Family. Adding vocalist Steve Postell to their ranks, they've put out several albums. But it was Tedesco who decided to tell the story of the guys, through the words of their famous employers and associates. He's well-suited for the task, having put out a film about The Wrecking Crew, the group of session musicians that featured his father, guitarist Tommy Tedesco. He saw the natural throughline that connected that collective with what Kortchmar, Wachtel, Sklar and Kunkel continued with the Section. The Immediate Family is a fascinating journey, one which weaves together valuable history as recounted by those who were there. The film was recently released on DVD and Blu-ray and continues to screen nationally. You can find further details at immediatefamilyfilm.com.I loved chatting with Denny and Lee -- and it was exciting to hear some details from Denny about his next project, a movie about Wolfman Jack that's currently in process! Can't wait!P.S. I mention it during the episode, but here's a direct link to Leland's YouTube channel.Support the Show.
You might remember that we had him on our cover back in 2017 and did an update when he launched his book “Everybody Loves Me” in 2020. It was exciting to hear that The Immediate Family had got back together in the studio to work on their own music in 2019 and are now up to two albums.Just last December, Magnolia Pictures released a documentary titled “Immediate Family” where we got a behind-the-scenes look at the massive contributions Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel, Ross Kunckle, Leland Sklar and Steve Postell have made in countless songs that are the very essence of our daily personal musical soundtracks. Seeing the astronomical roster of performers they have supported over many years is very eye-opening. It is a must-see for any music lover! Now, I am thrilled to bring you a special chat with Leland Sklar where we go more in-depth into the bass side of his musical journey.Photo, Rob ShanahanThis interview first appeared in Bass Musician Magazine in March 2024Go to jazzguitartoday.com and bassmusicianmagazine.com more interviews and lessons.
Bassist Neil Stubenhaus was a key member of that pool of exceptional talent in LA in the 70s and 80s that were first calls to play on the great albums made during the era. Neil stood shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Nathan East, Lee Sklar and Pino Palladino (among many) to make good music even better. Included on his resume are people like Billy Joel, Lionel Richie, Al Jarreau, Anita Baker, Rod Stewart, Barbra Steisand, the Temptations and tons of others. In fact, we both had nothing else going on so we talked for 3 hours about these and dozens of others. For the last couple decades he's mainly lent his talents to movie soundtracks which is an entirely separate conversation. Strap in and enjoy a masterclass in being good at your instrument. Born in Buffalo NY, his father wore two hats as pianist and conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He would seat Dave in the orchestra pit during performances as early as seven years old. Dave's brother Robert would soon become a multiple Grammy-nominated classical percussionist, and his sister an accomplished rock/soul singer. Shortly after his father's passing when Dave was 10, he suddenly took an interest in the piano that was sitting idly in the living room. Osmosis? Within six months Dave had mastered the C Sonata by Mozart, and began an obsession with XTC, Herbie Hancock, Yes, Todd Rundgren and of course, DEVO. Pretty diverse for an 11 year old. He clearly made the right choice. By the age of 17, he was one of the top keyboardists in his hometown, winning multiple awards consistently for seven years. Finally the big break came, when Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls called and left a simple message from sunny LA: “you wanna come out and tour with us for a year?” In a matter of one day Dave went from playing in front of 300 in a local Buffalo bar to playing Woodstock in front of 65000. This led to a two-and-a-half year relationship with the Goo Goo Dolls that took Dave around the world twice as touring keyboardist/vocalist for the “Dizzy Up The Girl” tour, the landmark album that spawned five top ten singles between 98 and 2000. Myrony is slightly different because it's synchronicity in motion since it's up to us to pay attention to the coincidences or signs but also “listen” to the intuitive pull we all get which Alysha believe is our greatest superpower! Her life was fairly normal until she got into a car accident that triggered fibromyalgia at the age of 18 and had to deal with that very painful chronic condition along with many other life challenges including loss of both parents, marriage, divorce, suicide thoughts/attempt, alcohol/prescription drug abuse/addiction and a full hysterectomy by the time she was 35. Alysha's strong spiritual connection and tenacity is what helped her through some very dark days. However, it's actually thanks to those days that allowed her to connect to her superpower that she calls her “Spiritual Spidey Sense”. She now shares her new concept hosting “That's Myrony” Podcast along with her spiritual coaching business “My Myrony” Mentoring where she uses her psychic gift of “knowing” also known as claircognizance to help her clients through Intuitive “Soul Sessions” with her unique one of a kind modality, “The Myrony Method” A Key to Unlock Our Soul's Blocks Program which helps release at a soul level what they need to move forward and create the life they truly desire all with a little myrony! So if you are feeling overwhelmed or stuck & would like to...

It's been a long ride with singer/songwriter/producer, Steve Postell. We go back to Bleecker Street in the heady daze of the New York club scene. I was booking the Rock 'N Roll Café and Steve was fresh outta Pure Prairie League. I was RockStar struck. I booked him that day and have continued to for the past 30 + years wherever I went and whatever I did. When I had my book launch at The Federal it was Steve I went to. He put together the most kick-ass jam band, as he always does. Steve has the distinction of being the one musician who's played every single venue I've booked. How lucky am I? We talked about Steve's early days as a kid being mesmerized by his mother's record collection and a guitarist in the park, knowing that was what he wanted to do. From lessons with his early mentor, Richard Nieves, who trained him on guitar, reading music, and singing simultaneously, to Mannes School of Music... playing Broadway, sessions, Pure Prairie League, his own record deal, Little Blue, producing with Steve Ferrone, and John Jones, Night Train Music Club, where he assembled the best of the best, to The Immediate Family, the culmination of his life's work, and dream come true. There are great stories about Dylan, who inspired him, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, David Crosby... meeting Lee Sklar, then Russ Kunkel, Danny Kortchmar, and Waddy Wachtel... and how lightning struck. This angelic voiced angel sang for us, played for us, including some slide guitar, and took us through the non-stop career of a successful working artist. Real-time comments from past bandmate, Dan Hickey and current, Leland Sklar, made the whole deal that much more fun. My heart is full. I loved every minute. We went back in for more. Had such a spectacular time with iconic dynamo, Waddy Wachtel, Zoom couldn't handle the energy and booted us off... we came back and had Waddy two times, and it wasn't enough. As promised, here he's back for Part 3... stories, stories, more stories, with this artist whose music's scored our lives. From a career which has spanned decades, tonight we focused on Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Warren Zevon, Stevie Nicks, Keith Richards, and the X-Pensive Winos, check out this killer video of their Eileen, https://bit.ly/3gVYE6s – I've watched it about dozen times since Waddy shot me the link an hour ago. It just doesn’t get any more rockin' - well, except maybe when you get current. Passion project for all of them, The Immediate Family, with Lee Sklar, Danny Kortchmar, Russ Kunkel, and Steve Postell, crazy-ass rock 'n roll that just doesn't better. Their latest video, New York Minute, is perfection, on every level –– https://bit.ly/3ml8dwY – the fact that there's 50 years of playing history between these monsters of rock, with the gem add-on of Postell, they're exactly where they want to be... if only this pandemic thing would get out of their way. Not that it's stopping them--playing out live is on hold, but new music and videos will continue to drop https://bit.ly/3ml8dwY –– a Denny Tedesco doc is well underway –– Waddy and company are living their dream. Joy to the world, and this girl. Waddy Wachtel, part Deux. Zoom kicked us off, but they couldn't keep us off. Waddy picked up where we left off... being managed by Bud Cowsill... deals falling away... getting unmanaged by Bud Cowsill... from bands to sessions... Warren Zevon, The Everly Brothers, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, meeting Lee Sklar, Russ Kunkel, and Danny Korthcmar, game-changing for all of them. Stevie Nicks, Keith Richards... to The Immediate Family... where we barely skimmed the surface. They'll be a part 2... check that, a part 3. Part 1 link, below... Waddy, the early years. Guitarist, producer, and composer, Waddy Wachtel’s career has spanned decades from The Everly Brothers, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Warren Zevon, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Newman, Don Henley, and Jackson Browne - to playing and writing with Keith Richards in the X-Pensive Winos - to his recent work as musical director, lead guitarist and vocalist for Stevie Nicks, through to his current and passion project, The Immediate Family, with Lee Sklar, Danny Kortchmar, Russ Kunkel, and Steve Postell. This Part 1 (Zoom kicked us off, but we came back, Part 2 link below) started with current events––the COVID. Waddy's one of us. On to his early years, spotting a guitar at age 5 and knowing that was what he wanted to do before he'd even held one. Waddy seems to have imagined to reality a bounty of his dreams. He told of school... what school... one, we shared... crazy. Starting to rise... a couple of times, before hitting LA... we end this part with his manager, Bud Cowsill... and pick it up on Part 2. Loved this so much, there'll be a Part 3, very soon. Adore my new friend, Waddy, a lifetime of gratitude for his brilliance. Bass legend and fine gentleman Leland Sklar is fertilizing the soil of his pandemic pause with creative seeds which are sprouting into a YouTube channel, a photography book, graphic art, virtual concerts and new music from The Immediate Family which includes Lee plus Waddy Wachtel, Danny Kortchmar, Steve Postel and Russ Kunkel. Lee comes to us brimming with tales of Laurel Canyon, James Taylor, Carole King, Phil Collins, Jackson Browne and so much more. Plus, Fritz and Weezy are recommending The Trial of the Chicago Seven, Trust: America’s Best Chance by Pete Buttigieg and It Was All a Lie by Stuart Stevens.
All the records we ("The Section") made including 'Tapestry' and James Taylor; we were all in the room together. Everyone's in the same room playing at the same time. From playing on 'Tapestry' and Sweet Baby James that lit us all up. "I was taught to play in the studio by some very astute fellows. Namely Peter Asher, Lou Adler and Carole (King). They always brought me back to the song; what's best for the song? Don't play over the melody, play something that's going to help. This was before you could amplify an acoustic guitar so James is playing to the mic. We're all walking on egg shells. Keep it down to a level where James' (Taylor) guitar and vocal can be heard. We were all sitting down close to each other. Peter Asher made the template for that music when he produced "Sweet Baby James." That's how we learned to play together. That record and the next one, 'Mudslide Slim.' That's where Russ, Lee and I learned to play that music." "We got into the studios from that. Peter Asher was the first producer to put the names of the accompanists on the albums. This is why the wrecking crew is not well known because they played on many records but they weren't listed.” “These records came along and we were kind of the next generation of the wrecking crew. Because Peter and Lou (Adler) were putting the names of the musicians on the albums we got recognition. We started getting a lot of calls, especially Russ (Kunkel) and Lee (Sklar).” “That sounds like an obvious thing but it isn't. Very, very few records are made like that anymore. They're mostly made peace meal, one part at a time. When I was producing a lot of records in the eighties and nineties I would put all the guys in the room. I produced a 'Spin Doctors' album where they were all in the room together. I never really got into doing one part at a time.” “As far as analog to digital I think that's overrated. If Tom Dowd had ProTools, working on all those early Aretha records, he would have absolutely loved it.” “The analog sound that you're (JFS) talking about comes to the signal, not where it ends up. Really good engineers know how to mic stuff. They know how to mic a drum kit and mic a room that has four or five guys in it. At that point the difference between recording to tape or ProTools is minuscule. More is made out of it then is there. It's about the chain - the mic's and preamps that you use. Again, it very much has to do with guys in a room. You don't have guys in a room together you're not going to get that sound. It's what happens when everyone plays together." “All my favorite guitar players growing up were like that too. Steve Cropper, Curtis Mayfield, Cornell Dupree, David T. Walker - all those guys knew how to set up a song. Everybody else was listening to lead guitar and I was listening to these guys. To me, Steve Croppers playing on those Stax/Volt Records is the essence of how you play a song. You have to serve the song.” “I have a huge ego, but when I have to find the right part for a song that upstages my ego. When I was playing with James (Taylor) and Carol (King) I was jamming all the time, everyday. I was able to play solos, turn up and play louder.” “When you hear a song like 'You've Got A Friend,' forget your ego. That's a great song, all I try to do is find some way to help tell the story.” “Musicians never want it to end. They don't want to be part of a moment that only lasts a few years and goes away.” “Musicians are all about love and the musicians I know (and I know a lot of them) absolutely love each other. They love playing together, they glow, and I do too. It a profound situation to play music with other people. It creates a bond, especially when you've been playing and listening since you were ten. It was a lifetime thing with all of us.” --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jake-feinberg/support
Billy Cobham was the original drummer of Mahavishnu Orchestra and his 1973 solo album 'Spectrum' was a groundbreaking record featuring Tommy Bolin, Jan Hammer and Lee Sklar. Pedro Segundo, just what the corona doctor ordered. Killer percussionist, drummer, beautiful soul, Pedro treated us to magnificent sounds, gentle humility, and a heartfelt message about human connection through music. From classical to jazz, Pedro studied, honoring his gifted craft with the passion and unique vision he presents through it. Ever since seeing Pedro at NAMM, I’ve been obsessed. I couldn’t take my eyes or ears off him. Pedro is the embodiment of dynamism. Equally, at home behind 18th-century-style kettle drums and a five-piece drum kit, Pedro makes every object he touches a channel for his incredible musical energy. Pedro’s been the house drummer for Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club for the past 10 yrs. He’s toured Europe, North America, and the Far East with Dennis Rollins Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields, as guest timpanist with Sir Neville Marriner, Murray Perahia, and Joshua Bell and more recently with his own Solo Segundo, Dennis Rollins’ Velocity Trio, Judith Owen, and his Hammond Organ and Drums duo with Ross Stanley. We talked Judith, Harry Shearer, Lee Sklar, Marcus Eaton, his early days in his native Portugal with his talented pianist/vocalist, sister, their supportive parents, studying there, and then in London. Making his way to America, falling in love, and manifesting his childhood dream. Immediate Family bassist Lee Sklar is one of the most recorded musicians of the rock era. Like the other members, Lee earned his bona fides playing with people like James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne, but his longest and tightest collaboration has likely been with Phil Collins. We talk a lot about working with Phil and the songs Lee's especially proud of. In addition, there are stories involving Hall & Oates, Lyle Lovett, Paul Williams, and a bunch of other fun stuff. And do yourself a favor and check out Lee's daily videos on youtube where he recounts stories of songs and artists he played with. Fun stuff! www.immediatefamilyband.com www.patreon.com/thehustlepod
Christian sits down with Immediate Family member, bassist Leland Sklar! This is the first in a series of interviews that will highlight all the members of the band (Legends to a man), we will be releasing over the Summer.Lee Sklar has been a prominent figure among Hollywood session bassists dating back to the 1970s and ever since. Sklar (born Leland Bruce Sklar, May 28, 1947, Milwaukee, WI) has more than 2000 albums to his credit (and still counting), and is considered to be one of the "A" players in the highly selective L.A. rock music community where the competition for recording dates is fierce, and where only the strongest will survive. His very recognizable bass playing style has been heard on hits by Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Hall & Oates, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins, Clint Black, Reba McEntire, and George Strait, to name just a few. And never one to remain idle, Sklar has entered the new millennium with a vengeance, taking on new projects with Willie Nelson, Steven Curtis Chapman, Nils Lofgren, Lisa Loeb, and many more. The reputation of a fine session player is not held exclusively to the record industry. Television and motion picture musical directors have called upon Sklar for his expertise countless times. He has played on TV shows such as Hill Street Blues, Knight Rider, Simon and Simon, and also on many motion pictures, including Forrest Gump, Ghost, Kindergarten Cop, and My Best Friend's Wedding. The list is virtually endless.Sklar moved from Wisconsin to Southern California when he was very young and started playing piano at age four. When he entered Birmingham Junior High in Van Nuys he fully intended to continue as a pianist in the school music program but found that there was an overabundance of piano students, but no string bass players. His instructor, Mr. Ted Lynn, asked Sklar if he would consider playing bass and, if so, he would teach him. As Sklar stated it, "...my life changed. Piano took a back seat and bass was it!"It was toward the end of the '60s and after completing his education at California State University, Northridge, as a music/art major that Sklar met James Taylor and they started doing some gigs. They thought they might be playing together for about a month, but then Taylor's "Fire and Rain" became a huge hit record and Sklar's career began to gain steam. Sklar's first sessions were with Taylor. The buzz surrounding this new bass player didn't take long to spread around Hollywood, and suddenly there was an icon in the making.Over the years Sklar has worked with nearly all of the top session players in Hollywood, but on the backs of album covers his name seems to pop up more frequently alongside drummer Russ Kunkel, guitarist Dan Kortchmar, and keyboardist Craig Doerge. This quartet would come to be known as the Section and they would record three of their own albums between 1972 and 1977 with the participation of additional select side personnel. Occasionally the Section would give a subtly announced live performance, much to the delight of their esoteric followers who would seek them out and feast on their mastery.https://www.facebook.com/TheImmedFamily/https://www.facebook.com/LelandSklarOfficial/

The slightly satirical content warning heard at the start of each episode genuinely applies today as I talk music and life with singer songwriter musician COLIN KYFFIN. Indeed, there will be "motivational language" but regular listeners know that it is de riguer for all of my featured guests to inspire listeners with their story. Colin shared stories of his journey through the L.A. music scene starting with the early seventies. His ambitions and dreams were enkindled at Columbia Records with the signing of his band Fresh Air and the recording of an album on which Colin played guitar and pedal steel. He and I discussed a just a few of the characters who he had the honor to know and work with: Producers (Terry Melcher, David Kirschenbaum, Sonny Knight, Jack Gold) to session players (Lee Sklar, Jim Keltner, Hal Blaine, Glen D. Harding) to artists (Alan O'Day, Mark Lindsay, Richie Furay). However, it is Colin Kyffin's music in the present day which holds court, starting with "TO LIVE ANOTHER DAY" inspired by friends and family stricken by cancer and their brave and determined battles. Then we discuss the follow up, "WE'LL SEE" which is an introspective but optimistic alternative rock tune about facing life's challenges and changes. Finally, Colin gives some positive and meaningful advice which you are sure to take to heart. Please take time to enjoy the experience and songs of my newest friend Colin Kyffin!https://www.colinkyffinmusic.com/

Jackson Browne, Phil Collins- getting goosebumps, every night...NAMM, Reba, Clint, Cocker, Ronstadt, Garfunkle, Stills, Nash and the Crosby... without rhyme but with plenty of reason, we talked his art, his preferences, passions, kitsch, friends lost and treasured... we were all over the place... a crazy fun ride landing us back to the bottom... it's all about his bass... a great Lyle Lovett tune, That's Right (You're Not From Texas) brought us close to home... Emmy and Oscar nominated composer/orchestrator J.A.C. Redford decided it to slum it with the no-award winning Mike, Tommy, and Kevin. Redford talks his illustrious career, composing D2 and D3, how Melissa Etheridge got cut out of D2, orchestrating and arranging an Adele song, and much more. Show Notes Thanks to J.A.C. for coming on. Check out his website at jacredford.com. He also has his own Wikipedia page. We didn't really give him enough credit. You've definitely heard his work at some point in your life. His full IMDB is here. Some quick bios for some names JAC mentions that you may not know: James Horner was a composer, conductor and orchestrator probably most well known for his score of Titanic. He passed away in 2015. Tom Newman is a another composer, conductor and orchestrator. He has won six Grammys, including some for his work in WALL-E. If you want more music talk, we spoke with D1 composer David Newman in Episode 61. The 7th Votage fo Sinbad came out in 1958: Not a great movie, but some great music. JAC was nominateed for an Emmy in 1984 and an Emmy in 1985 for his work in St. Elsewhere. As a reminder, the main Mighty Ducks theme, created by David Newman. The Trinidad and Tobago scene with the steel drums: Lee Sklar has contributed to over 2,000 albums as a session musician. Here is the Avatar fight scene JAC tried 13 different ways that ended up different than any of the 13 ways he and his orchestra conducted it. JAC mentioned The Trip to Bountiful as some of his best work. Also Mama Flora's Family. Randy Newman: singer, songwriter, composer. JAC arranged and orchestrated Skyfall. It's so dope: Thanks to @bberg19 for the first #QuackQuestion. How challenging was it to score D3, which is still a kid movie, but far more serious than D2? How did he reflect this change musically? — Bryan (@bberg19) October 11, 2017 Thanks to @AirLemaire for the second #QuackQuestion. #QuackQuestion did you know you struck gold after coming up with the song for Hans' funeral? — bobby lemaire (@AirLemaire) October 11, 2017 Hans' funeral scene. Listen specifically for the music. It's pretty powerful.
The talented songwriter returns to discuss her latest album "Somebody's Child".
Just mention the title To Kill A Mockingbird, and most people will get a faraway look in their eyes and just sigh, for Harper Lee’s semi-autobiographical paean to childhood strikes a chord in the heart of those who have read the Pulitzer Prize winning novel or seen Robert Mulligan’s award-winning movie, a “studio film with indie sensibilities.” Telling people that this is a Perfect Movie is like telling them that “the sky is blue.” From the script to the casting, from cinematography to set design, from the opening credits to Elmer Bernstein’s evocative score, this is, arguably a truly perfect movie. And this week, we had extra back-up as the magnificent and magnanimous Lee Sklar joined us to add his own commentary and anecdotes. A big thank you to Lee for taking the extra time from his very busy day to discuss To Kill A Mockingbird with “The Film Guys!”

Consider it Deja Vu, if you wish. But for Lee Sklar, hitting the road with Carole King and James Taylor for the 2010 Troubadour Reunion Tour was a dream-turned-reality. It all began in 1969, when Taylor and King played the infamous 3-day gig at the Troubadour Club in LA. Backing them were Lee Sklar, Danny Kortchmar and Russ Kunkel. They would soon become known as ‘The Section’ and their discographies as the most sought after session guys of the time were deep. Lee Sklar’s career was rocketing as he was in demand by major artists and producers. Fast forward to September 2010. The 51-city Troubadour Reunion Tour has played to over 700,000 fans around the world. The secret to the success was simple - Sklar, Kunkel, and Kootch were along for the ride with James and Carole - and the chemistry helped reproduce the intimate vibe of the original Troubadour Shows. We’ve invited Lee back to debrief us on the rest of the Troubadour Reunion Tour. He’s no stranger to us. Lee, welcome back to Inside MusiCast.
If you’ve listened to Don Henley’s End of the Innocence, Carole King’s Tapestry, Jackson Browne’s Running on Empty, Billy Joe’s River of Dreams, and most of James Taylors recordings, then you’re familiar with the musical influence of guitarist, composer, and producer Danny Kortchmer…or Kootch…as most in the business know him. From his collaborations with Peter Asher, of Peter and Gordon, to touring and playing sessions with Lee Sklar, Russ Kunkel, and Craig Doerge, of the infamous “Section”, Danny has had a career that most would envy. As an accomplished singer-songwriter, he’s worked with people like David Foster, Jay Graydon, Ringo Starr, Bruce Hornsby, Steve Jordan, Pino Palladino, and Tamio Okuda, while producing for others or for his own solo projects. He’s also ready to embark on the 2010 Carole King / James Taylor World Tour called the TROUBADOUR TOUR…connecting once again to tour with his longtime friends of the Section. Inside MusiCast welcomes Danny Kortchmar.
If you listen to Inside MusiCast on a regular basis, you know that we chat with some of the most talented people in the music industry. When it comes to the Grammy Award winning band TOTO, we’ll be the first to tell you that the musicianship of the band members is second to none. But, in case you haven’t heard, Mike Porcaro, bassist for TOTO, has sustained a hand injury that is going to leave him sidelined for the band’s upcoming tour of Europe, and possibly for more dates this summer in North America. Our prayers and well wishes go out to Mike for a speedy recovery. But as they say in the biz, the show must go on. So TOTO has turned to long-time friend and super musician Lee Sklar to take Mike’s place for the upcoming tour. Inside MusiCast is taking this opportunity to spend a few minutes with Lee to chat about his new role with the band and what to expect in the coming months when TOTO hits the road.

If you’re into drag racing, you know what TOP FUEL means. This is where the big boys play with nitro methane fuels; the fastest speeds. So, what does that have to do with music? For almost as long as Lee Sklar has been into drag racing, he’s been one of the music industry’s most sought after bassists. His discography is longer than his beard and his ability to keep the bassline groove fresh is the reason why he still tours with top acts such as James Taylor, Lyle Lovett, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins, and many more. Lee is also the perennial global bassists, having performed and contributed to many international recording projects. Inside MusiCast is proud to have Lee Sklar on our guest list.
