I'm at a very fortunate point in my career where I have access to not just the most incredible instruments, but the most incredible people. While at the NAMM show convention lat month I met the folks at RKM basses and had an immediate connection with the instrument featured in this video. Besides the incredibly kind gesture of gifting me this bass, RKM are not paying me to make this podcast or to say any of the things I have about the instrument. I just feel compelled to share the bass with you, and how I am slowly working some new tools back into my studio having sold off a lot of instruments over the past 6 months.More soon, JanekP.S. As mentioned in the episode, there are a limited number of signed books back in stock. I apologize that I'm not able to keep 100's of copies of every book in stock at all times, and that people are seeing the “sold out” sign a lot on the store. But rest assured, as soon as they sell out I do order more copies, and they are shipping worldwide. Can't thank you enough for the support as always.

Toowoomba coal train reimagined by Clelia Ciardulli. "The piece spoke to me about solitude in the night, listening to the bare essential structures out there still working. I sat alone at night with my 'one-string' electric bass 'thinking' of how many of us listen more acutely in isolation, of how I could connect myself, and the place I live, Govanhill, Glasgow, Scotland with that person in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, what feeling could run through both of us." Steve Armstrong - from Springfield MA. Fell in love with and studied String Bass for a few years in the 60s' Went to college for Music ed. Received a BA in Music theory and composition - too shy to be classroom teacher. Along the way, played in R+R dance bands in bars and clubs. Went into music electronics repair. While in school took a job at KSC as their main academic audio support person. In that role I applied my love for physics and knowledge of electronics to the tasks at hand; Providing audio recording support for all campus events, touring music acts and a small audio production studio. That role lasted much of my 39 years there. My affinity for classical symphonic music has influenced my musical life as a performer and sound technician/engineer. I still love to play, mostly these days you'll find me smiling in the pit orchestras of regional broadway style musicals.

This 1990 Pedulla MVP 5 bass is such an incredibly special instrument that I decided to post it as a bonus Episode of the 2 Dudes 1 Bass Series. This bass belongs to a very close friends father, RAY!!! It is on temporary loan and I am very thankful to have it in my possession for a little while. This is a completely stock 1990 Pedulla MVP 5 String Bass. These were some of the earliest boutique basses from that era. Pedulla is still going strong and Mike Pedulla is still building some of the industries best basses. This video was shot on a GoPro Camera at 4k and audio was recorded on a Zoom H4N.

Welcome to Get Up in the Cool: Old Time Music with Cameron DeWhitt and Friends. This week’s friend is Alex Lacquement, and he’s a bassist! A Get Up in the Cool first, and hopefully not the last. Alex plays Old Time music with a lot of freedom, but he has a keen sense for exercising restraint. Gerald Veasley grew up in Philadelphia surrounded by Blues, Soul and Gospel Music. Those influences paved the way to a lifelong celebration of music. An extraordinary talent, Gerald talks about the importance of education and the healing power of music. He continues to compose, perform and teach music at the University of The Arts. Gerald Veasley will grace the stage for a number of concerts at the 25th Annual Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest.
I had a quick phone conversation with Vladimir Gorbach, the 2011 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artists Competition winner! Vladimir is currently about halfway through his GFA sponsored concert and masterclass tour, with performances in Oregon, Texas, and Arizona in January 2013, and California, New York, Florida, and Minnesota in February, and quite a few more. It was really interesting to hear about how Vladimir prepared and practiced for the competition, his philosophy on competitions in general, and to hear some of the music he's playing on his tour program. You'll hear him play a Scarlatti sonata, Vicente Asencio's Collectici Intim, and my personal favorite, his amazing interpretation of Piazzolla's Estaciones Porteñas.
So the show is called All Strings Considered and it turns out, guitar isn't the only instrument with strings! Who would have thought? I had a great conversation with my friend Megumi Stohs from the un-conducted string orchestra A Far Cry They play "classical" music like you've never heard it before. They have this amazing democratic way of rehearsing and performing and play more like a rock band than a classical orchestra: they perform standing (except the celli of course) and with an energy and vitality that left me grinning from ear to ear. You'll hear music from Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Piazzolla and from some of their featured solists like Jason Vieaux (guitar), Julien Labro (bandoneon), and Markus Schirmer (piano).
