If you opened your practice to help people heal but spend most of your day checking, correcting, and redoing your team's work, this episode is for you. Tracy explores why this pattern isn't a team problem—it's a leadership identity problem rooted in your clinical training. The same precision and thoroughness that makes you an exceptional clinician can quietly erode your team's confidence, initiative, and desire to stay when applied to every aspect of how you manage people.  Is your practice growth-ready? See Where Your Practice Stands: Take our Practice Growth Readiness Assessment  Read the full show notes, memorable quotes, and key takeaways.  In this solo episode, Tracy walks you through three practical shifts you can implement immediately to change how your team experiences you as a leader—without upending everything you've built. You'll learn the critical difference between managing micro details that genuinely need your eyes and micromanaging the people you hired to be competent professionals. Plus, Tracy shares a powerful client story about a practice owner expanding to a second location and the coaching conversation that shifted everything.  Whether you're struggling with delegation, dealing with team turnover, or realizing that your clinical instincts might be holding your practice back from its next level of growth, this episode offers a clear, compassionate path forward.  Read the full show notes, memorable quotes, and key takeaways.  Connect With Us:  Be a Guest on the Show  Thriving Practice Community  Schedule Strategy Session with Tracy  Tracy's LinkedIn  Business LinkedIn Page

Ever feel like your team has more to give—and you can't quite unlock it? We dig into the uncomfortable truth that many leaders become bottlenecks without meaning to, then map a path to becoming a catalyst who unlocks energy, ownership, and momentum. With award-winning leadership and high performance coach Tracy Clark, we examine why strategy and skills (the “trunk”) only go so far, and how deeper work in mindset, self-awareness, and identity (the “roots”) drives real, sustained results.Tracy shows how to close the gap between intention and impact by starting in the mirror. We get tactical about identity—moving from “think differently” to “be differently”—through immersive play, a one-line identity anchor like “I am a determined catalyst,” and a simple pre-meeting reset that shifts your state on demand. We also unpack her three-part definition of play as intense curiosity, radical open-mindedness, and proactive experimentation. Expect practical moves: rule-flipping core assumptions, designing low-risk tests, and letting silence do the work so your team steps up.The conversation goes beyond personal change to collective momentum. We explore how to create a “team of catalysts” with shared behaviors that make independent thinking normal: surfacing tensions early, challenging assumptions weekly, shipping small experiments fast, and measuring learning alongside results. Along the way we connect empathy and deep listening to performance, drawing on ideas popularized by Chris Voss and the enduring truth that people remember how you make them feel.If you're ready to trade control for trust, certainty for curiosity, and busyness for leverage, this one's for you. Listen, choose your one-word identity for the week, and try the catalyst experiment in your next meeting. If it sparks an insight, share the episode with a leader who needs it, subscribe on your favorite podcast app or YouTube, and leave a review to help others find the show.

What happens when success comes at the cost of authenticity? In this episode of The Unlock Moment, I'm joined by Dr Michelle K. Johnston - Distinguished Professor of Management, executive coach, and co-author with Marshall Goldsmith - to explore the moment that reshaped her leadership, her research, and her life. At just 28, Michelle was a rising academic star. But sitting alone in her office, reading student feedback she found hurtful, she realised something profound: she was succeeding by pretending to be someone she wasn't. In trying to fit a command-and-control mould, she had silenced the very strengths that made her exceptional … her warmth, enthusiasm, and humanity. That moment sparked a seismic internal shift. One that led Michelle to a lifelong exploration of connection: with self, with others, and with the courage required to show up authentically in environments where you feel different or alone. We talk about growing up constantly adapting, why connection always begins within, the loneliness that often accompanies deep personal change, and why productivity without connection ultimately leads to emptiness. Michelle also shares the core ideas behind her new book The Seismic Shift in You, including why leaders must move from task to people, from control to connection, and why your calendar reveals your true priorities. This conversation is a powerful reminder that leadership transformation doesn't start in the boardroom … it starts inside us. If you've ever felt like you were performing instead of belonging, this episode will meet you exactly where you are. Dr Edi-Osagie reflects honestly on being told not to come to the UK because success would be unlikely, and the quiet determination it took to keep going anyway. The conversation moves into leadership, fairness, and the reality of working in systems like the NHS where bias is often subtle, embedded, and backed by data. High performers know how to manage perception — but image can't sustain peace. In this episode, Julie unpacks the trap of performance and the freedom of identity alignment. You don't need to prove — you need to recalibrate. If you've ever felt the pressure to keep up an image — at work, at home, or even spiritually — you're not alone. Most high-capacity leaders don't crash because they lack discipline. They burn out trying to maintain a version of themselves that no longer fits. This episode names the silent exhaustion of image management — and the freedom that comes when you recalibrate from identity, not performance.Julie shares her personal journey of moving from high-functioning burnout to true internal peace — not by hustling harder, but by recalibrating at the root. You'll also see how three biblical figures — Jeroboam, Judas, and Paul — reveal the difference between managing perception and living from alignment. One guarded power. One betrayed purpose. One surrendered everything — and built a legacy that still transforms lives. This isn't about perfection. It's about peace. Because image management might get you applause — but only identity alignment brings lasting impact.Today's Micro Recalibration: Where are you maintaining an image that no longer fits who you truly are? What might shift if you stopped managing perception — and started living from alignment? For leaders: Where are people responding to your curated image instead of your authentic leadership? And what kind of permission might you create by letting go of the performance? You'll also hear: – Why fear of being misunderstood fuels performance – What image curation costs you spiritually, emotionally, and relationally – The real reason your peace feels fragile (and how to get it back)And if you're ready to stop performing and start living from overflow, the Misalignment Audit, your Micro Recalibration Prompt, and a Private Recalibration Session are all linked in the show notes. This isn't therapy. This isn't coaching. This is identity-level recalibration — and it changes everything. If this episode gave you language you've been missing, please rate and review the show so more high-capacity humans can find it. Misalignment doesn't stay contained — it spreads. Teams inherit the anxiety of leaders, families mirror the pressure of parents, and cultures slowly fracture under the weight of confusion. This episode unpacks the concept of social contagion — how attitudes, behaviors, and emotions spread almost like a disease — and shows why your identity clarity is the key to cultural health. You'll hear:Why your nervous system broadcasts alignment (or misalignment) before you ever say a wordHow teams and families unconsciously “catch” anxiety, perfectionism, or pressureWhy culture decks, hacks, or consultants can't fix what identity misalignment breaksWhat Bob Dylan and Bono can teach us about leading from identity rather than rolePractical steps to stop the spread — whether you've been the one causing misalignment, or the one carrying its weightToday's Micro-Recalibration: Ask yourself: What confusion in me is my team — or my family — carrying? Discover how ILR separates role from identity so you can lead with clarity, trust, and peace.Leadership is heavy when your identity is fused with your role. Every mistake feels like a threat to your worth. Every conflict feels personal. Every decision is weighed down by the fear of being exposed. And it doesn't stay contained — it leaks into your team, creating misalignment, mistrust, and burnout. In today's episode of The Recalibration, Julie Holly shows why misaligned leaders create misaligned teams — and how recalibration shifts leadership from pressure to presence. Drawing on psychology, neuroscience, and the story of Howard Thurman's influence on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this episode unpacks:Why identity-fused leadership creates fragile cultures where teams walk on eggshellsThe toll of “always on” leadership on your nervous system and your healthWhy therapy helps you understand and coaching helps you manage — but ILR releases role-driven leadership at the rootHow Howard Thurman's faith-rooted identity shaped a generation of leaders without chasing titlesA practical test to know if you're leading from identity or just sustaining a roleToday's Micro Recalibration: Ask yourself: Am I leading from clarity of identity or from a role I'm trying to sustain? Notice where leadership feels heavy — that weight is often the signal that role and identity have fused. If leadership has ever felt like it's costing you yourself, this episode will help you step out of pressure and into presence — leading with clarity, stability, and peace. If this episode gave you language you've been missing, please rate and review the show so more high-capacity humans can find it. When roles define you, every shift feels like collapse. Discover why confusing role with identity leaves high-capacity humans fragile — and how recalibration restores clarity. What happens when your worth gets tangled up in what you do? For many high-capacity humans, identity confusion shows up quietly — until a role shifts, and the ground beneath you shakes. In today's episode of The Recalibration, Julie Holly explores why roles often get mistaken for identity and why that confusion leaves you fragile in times of change. Drawing on Continuity Theory, Princess Diana's story, and her own reflections as a mother, Julie reveals:Why roles provide stability — but can't define who you truly areHow Continuity Theory explains our tendency to trade one role for another without addressing identityWhy your nervous system clings to predictable roles, and why it panics when those roles shiftA simple way to know the difference between role and identity — and why this clarity is essential for resilienceToday's Micro Recalibration:Ask yourself: Where have I mistaken my role for my identity? Write it down. Say it out loud. Awareness is the first act of freedom. If you've ever felt like your value disappears when a title, responsibility, or role changes — this episode will help you see the difference between who you are and what you do. 941: LEADERSHIP TIPS: Consistency is Your Leadership Superpower

The Shameless Mom Academy

Play Episode Listen Later May 27, 2025 26:48

Consistency is pretty boring. It might be the least glamorous component of leadership.  This is probably why it tends to be an underrated leadership superpower. However, consistency is a key ingredient to leadership success, primarily because it allows you to create compounding interest. Your tiny gains over time build up to massive outcomes.  Consistency also thwarts perfectionism. Showing up repeatedly becomes more important than showing up perfectly. This consistent showing up creates growth that casts perfectionism to the side, as it's no longer needed as a tool for success. You start to realize that success is much more about showing up, getting it done, and building momentum on an ongoing basis.  What if small, repeated actions became the backbone of sustainable success in both your personal growth and leadership? For example…  For the last 27 years, I've worked out 6 days a week. That's about 7,776 workouts. Most of them have been pretty average, mid-level efforts. A lot of them have been just going through the motions. Every now and then, there is a really amazing one. The impact has been massive on my mental and physical health. I have no doubt that I have added years to my life. For the last 9 years, I have released 1-2 podcasts a week, depending on our production schedule. That's 940 podcast episodes. Some have been fantastic, even noteworthy. Many have been valuable and helpful to my audience, but not necessarily earth-shattering. The impact on my business and credibility as a thought leader, speaker, and coach has been invaluable.  Consistency creates scaffolding in your life and leadership. By developing reliable habits, you reduce decision fatigue, lessen your mental load, and streamline internal negotiations. When you're consistent, you become a person who gets things done, who finishes what you start, and who builds trust in yourself. That identity shift, from someone who dabbles to someone who delivers, is transformational. Consistency also strengthens your leadership reputation. Leaders known for their follow-through and reliability foster trust, credibility, and psychological safety for their teams.  Showing up again and again says to the world, “I'm here, I belong here, and I'm not going anywhere.” This episode will inspire you to lean into consistency as a courageous act of leadership and self-trust. Episode Highlights: 00:00 The Power of Consistency in Leadership 05:09 Powerful Examples of the Payoffs of Consistency 10:12 Building Relationships Through Consistency 15:17 Consistency as a Tool to Build a Stronger Personal Identity and Leadership Identity 20:44 The Impact of Consistency on Trust and Visibility Links Mentioned: Book: Atomic Habits by James Clear Book: Finish by Jon Acuff Book: Soundtracks by Jon Acuff Hire me to speak: saradean.com/speaking Coach with me: https://saradean.com/executive-coaching-services Connect with me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/saradeanspeaks Interested in becoming a sponsor of the Shameless Mom Academy?
