To survive in show business is not an easy feat but to be part of the guys who influenced the comedy worldview of the next generation, Ted Alexandro seems to be able to do just that. Ted Alexandro reveals the nature of the beast and finds zen in doing so is amazing to me. Here is this thing, I am surprised how Ted is growing up and he taught me more about relationship with different people and how to maintain a healthy one. Especially a working relationship in the world of show business. We talked a bit in getting therapy, figuring out how one is and the expectation of therapy. Ted also telling personally stories in how to say “No”, having boundaries and not to be the responsible ones. He does talked about being the responsible one how it has influenced the decision that he made in life thus getting to be the guy who he is today. Realising he has many lives before being a stand up comic and then brining it in to his current life and made a really web series “Teachers Lounge” shows him with a man of many talents. Telling many stories of how he and Hollis James write, pitch and then getting the actors for his show while maintaining the show as a stand up comedians' sit-com. Stories like getting Michael Che and Alec Baldwin to be part of the show and many of our favourite comedians such as Todd Barry, Lewis Black and Dave Attell seems to be a big bonus. Hollis James and him decided to go independent for “Teachers Lounge” and Ted Alexandro explains why.

Absolutely loved having JoAnna Beckson on Dystopia Tonight. I had the pleasure of taking her Meisner class when I was a young comic and what I learned from her is invaluable both as a teacher and now as a friend. We discuss how she got into acting/directing, having the neighborhood kids put on a show she directed at the age of 5, to back packing through Europe, falling in love with another actor in her troupe, being trained by Sanford Meisner, auditioning, diving into teaching and directing, and working with comedians like myself, Joe Starr, Rob Bartlett, Ted Alexandro, Jim Gaffigan, Ray Romano, Dave Attell (the list goes on!) and how the business has and will continue to reshape itself after covid. Enjoy!   Check out her official bio below:   JoAnna Beckson was trained as an actress and teacher by Fred Kareman, William Esper and Sanford Meisner of the Neighborhood Playhouse. She has worked extensively as an actress and director both Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway in such theaters as The Ensemble Studio Theater, Intar II, The Working Theater and Woman's Interart. She is also a founding member of New York City's prestigious Circle Repertory Company's LAB. Along with being a consultant for Disney and Paramount Studios, JoAnna has maintained the dual career of Actress/Director and Teacher of acting in New York City for many years. “Say Something Funny”, an original dramedy she conceived, directed and co-produced at the Criterion Center-Broadway, was optioned for sitcom development by Nelle Nugent, a five-time Tony Award winning producer, and by Dick Clark Productions. JoAnna's involvement in the daily “business” of acting gives her special insight toward helping actors develop their craft and solve the problem of finding work. For the past fifteen years, JoAnna has also been an Adjunct Professor at New York University's School of Professional Studies as well as the Graduate Film Department at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. JoAnna also leads workshops at the School of Visual Arts, and the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts.

Do you know what you wanted to do at 16? In Liz Miele's case, the answer was "yes" – which is why she started hitting comedy clubs in New York City. And 16 turned out to be quite the sweet age to start given where she is today. Profiled in  The New Yorker Magazine at 18 and appearing on Comedy Central's Live at Gotham at age 22, Miele has been featured on/in numerous shows and viral videos, including: Comedy Central's “This Week at the Comedy Cellar,” NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Hulu's Coming To The Stage and AXS TV's Gotham Comedy Live. In addition to her comedy, Liz is a mental health advocate and runner, leading to her being profiled in Psychology Today and the March 2015 issue of Runner's World, respectively.Regularly touring internationally (pre-pandemic, anyway), Miele has three albums out on Spotify and iTunes and released her first special Self Help Me in May 2020 free on YouTube. This is in addition to writing and producing season one of her animated web series “Damaged,” voiced by great comics including, Maz Jobrani, Hari Kondabolu, Ted Alexandro and Jermaine Fowler among others; she also co-produced and co-starred in 40 episodes of a web series called Apt C3 with fellow comic, Carmen Lynch and fashion photographer, Chris Vongsawat. On this episode, Liz talks with Tabari about how she got started in comedy, how she was able to become good friends with a legendary comedian you've probably heard of, running ... And her inspiration for her upcoming book with a title with a VERY memorable name.Check out this episode and others you may have missed at https://atight45.buzzsprout.com/or wherever you get your podcasts today! There are plenty of questions about what the future of live performance looks like right now, and, in certain ways, no form seems more displaced by social distancing and everything else than does standup comedy. As such, people are just going to have to try new things, right? New York club comedian Ted Alexandro's YouTube comedy special is one of the first such experiments. And: Do you feel like you're running out of movies to watch? Have you crossed just about everything off of your must-see list? The Nose has compiled its own list of semi-obscure, semi-forgotten, semi-overlooked movies to help get you through this time. Nothing too artsy-fartsy, nothing too oddball. Just some titles you might've missed that are worth your time. (Here's the full list in handy Twitter-thread form. It runs fully 43 titles.) Ted Alexandro is a comic who believes deeply in social responsibility. Whether it's responsibility to his fellow comics as he fought for better pay from clubs, or to his fellow citizens as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement, or to his audience as he wrestles with effectively addressing the Trump Era on the comedy stage. Ted talks with Marc about the evolving nature of a comedian's role in the culture, how his experience as an elementary school teacher prepared him for standup, and why he felt it was necessary to do material at the Comedy Cellar that was critical of Louis CK's return to the Comedy Cellar. This episode is sponsored by Funny or Die's No Activity on CBS All Access, Omaha Steaks, Molekule, and YouTube Music.
