Send me a message - text me! Today I had a surprising realisation over breakfast. It turns out, I still love overnight oats. I first discovered them during my Slimming World days. So why am I still eating them now, years after letting go of food rules and diet plans? Because I actually enjoy them, and I think that's worth talking about a little bit. This episode explores how we can reclaim foods from our dieting past, how some meals still serve us, and how others (like pasta salad!) might be worth revisiting in a whole new way. If you've ever questioned why you eat what you eat, or avoided something that reminds you of old diet habits, this one's for you. What You'll Hear:Why it's okay to enjoy a food you discovered while dietingHow to tell if a food is serving you now, or just sticking around from habitFoods we avoid because they trigger diet culture memoriesReclaiming and reinventing old meals on your own termsHow to tune into satisfaction instead of rulesLet's Chat!Do you still eat foods from your dieting days? I have an episode for King Cake, an episode for Beignets and an episode for Biscuits. But, I didn't have an episode for something that I eat every day...until now. My beloved Overnight Oats needed a special episode for many reasons: They're easy to make - LEARN how to make more oat-based recipes and how to add in more protein with a few more "hacks" I have for ya. They're resistant starch - HEAR WHY resistant starch is good for you They're full of prebiotics - DISCOVER the role or prebiotics when it comes to probiotics and how they exist in a symbiotic relationship And, of course, stay for all of my tales of breakfast woes of yore while growing up in 1980's Louisiana - from grits to Gatorade and more, I've got some stories for ya. And, of course, I've got some recipes and tips for ya too. In the episode titled "Why Slowing Down Can Lead to Success," Baylor Barbee delves into the metaphorical comparison between instant oats and overnight oats to expound upon the theme of patience and the importance of process in personal growth and goal attainment. The episode begins with a light-hearted discussion on oatmeal preparation and segues into a deeper contemplation of why the things that take more time often yield better results. Baylor takes the listener on a metaphorical journey, using food preparation as an analogy for life goals and success. He suggests that the consistency and more enjoyable taste of overnight oats, as opposed to its on-the-spot counterpart, is similar to the rich outcomes that can be yielded from goals that are given the proper time to mature. He emphasizes that quick fixes and shortcuts may compromise the quality of results, highlighting the importance of commitment to a process, even if it takes longer than anticipated. By contrasting the hustle culture with the benefits of taking measured steps, Baylor encourages listeners to reassess how they approach their life and goals. He challenges his audience to take control of their pace, move purposefully, and be mindful of the opportunities that may be missed when succumbing to societal pressures for instant gratification. The episode serves as a call-to-action for listeners to embrace a slower, more thoughtful approach to achieving their objectives. Key Takeaways: True commitment to a goal means not being concerned by the time it takes to achieve it; focus on the process rather than the speed of accomplishment. The things in life that take longer to develop often result in better, more consistent outcomes, much like the difference between instant oats and overnight oats. Societal expectations of speed and hustle can lead to burnout and decreased quality of life; slowing down can reveal new opportunities and paths to success. Sustainable success comes from understanding and establishing a strong foundation, and then building upon it at the right pace. Baylor advocates for taking the time to understand what works individually for success, acknowledging that not all paths are universal. Notable Quotes: "The things in life that take more time ultimately yield you the better result." "Hustle is not a strategy. Hope is not a strategy." "Are you in a position in your life to slow down? Because if not, that's the first thing we got to do is figure out, hey, how can we slow it down?" "We don't even know what our destination looks like because we're probably going right by it because society said, don't worry about where you're going. Just get there fast." "If you slow down, you can start asking yourself, kind of, what is my foundation?"

Brief musings around discovering overnight oats. Beats regular old hot oatmeal any day of the week.
Oatmeal for so long has left us with full stomachs for the day ahead but also left us with a full sink when we get home. This quick and easy recipe is the perfect hack for making oatmeal fast, with a super easy cleanup, that doesn't skimp on an ounce of flavor.RecipeServes 11/2 cup (50g) old-fashioned rolled oats1 1/4 cups (300ml) unsweetened almond milk, plus more for servingSalt4 teaspoons cocoa powder2 tablespoons creamy or chunky almond butterMaple syrup (optionalSimmer the oats: To a medium nonstick skillet, add the oats, almond milk, a pinch of salt, and the cocoa. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently and scraping the bottom and sides with a silicone spatula, until the oats are tender and creamy, about 5 minutes. Reduce the heat if it starts boiling too wildly, and don't wander away or it might boil over on you. Stop cooking when the oatmeal is a little looser than you want, as it will thicken as it cools.Top and eat: Swirl in the almond butter and maple syrup. Add more milk if you'd like.
