Happy Halloween listeners! Coming off our Terrifier series we still have clowns on the brain so Stephen and Mike are counting down the top ten scariest clowns in horror history as voted on by your band of grease paint and squirting flower fearing podcasters. Plus, Mike and Ariel sat down during the last day of the Telluride Horror Show to talk about some of their favorite films from Fantastic Fest and Telluride Horror.
San Miguel County Sheriffs asking for pay increase, sections of the Valley Floor will be closed for a helicopter operation to remove dead trees, Telluride Horror Show happening this weekend, aurora borealis seen in town, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife releases two great horned owls into the wild.
In a not so distant future, one man can make a difference and another man will show us that leather chaps and harnesses are not just for the BDSM club anymore. On this week's show we are talking Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior), a film Roger Ebert called "a film of pure action, of kinetic energy", which is "one of the most relentlessly aggressive movies ever made". Joining us to chat about this petrol fuelled extravaganza is Canadian filmmaker Gabriel Carrer. Gab knows a thing or two about action being the writer/director of genre films such as For the Sake of Vicious, Death on Scenic Drive, The Demolisher and many more. So put on your best apocalyptic attire and tune into the show. Gabriel Carrer is a film director and screenwriter who helmed the 2010 underground horror success If a Tree Falls (Raven Banner Entertainment), which premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival. He returned to Fantasia in 2015 with The Demolisher (Darksky Films), winning the Silver Audience Award, and gained acclaim at festivals worldwide (Vancouver International Film Festival, Sitges, Hardline, Toronto After Dark Film & Feratum). In 2021, he composed the score and co-directed the Shudder streaming exclusive film, For the Sake of Vicious (Epic Pictures). Carrer returned to Fantasia a third time for its world premiere and it continued to play a series of festivals such as Frightfest, Macabro, Hardline, Telluride Horror Show, Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and Sitges. Other directing credits include In the House of Flies (2012), featuring punk rock icon Henry Rollins as "The Voice" and Death on Scenic Drive (2017). Most of his films are now on TUBI to watch for free, such as “The Demolisher”, “Death on Scenic Drive” and “In the House of Flies” feat. Henry Rollins. For the Sake of Vicious is available for rent in most online shops. Latefox Pictures Talk to us Goose www.howdyoulikethatmovie.com Twitter
Mike and Ariel actually got to meet in person at this past weekend's Telluride Horror Show, and to celebrate we snagged some coffee and breakfast burritos while taking in the mountain air and discussed what we loved at the festival. We keep it spoiler free while discussing Suitable Flesh, Hell House LLC 4 Origins: The Carmichael Manor; Sleep; I Will Never Leave You Alone, You'll Never Find Me, Late Night With the Devil, Vincent Must Die, Frogman, and more. We also pause the show to admire a very cool looking bird.
On this installment of The PAPER STREET Podcast, hosts Shawn Talley and Becky Sayers are joined by Travis Volz, a PR account executive, publicist, and social media manager who has worked with Mile High Films, the band Itchy-O, and a favorite film festival of Paper Street, the Telluride Horror Show! They get into Travis' early career, what led him to working with Telluride Horror, and all about the destination fest itself, including the chill atmosphere, the beautiful mountain town location, and some of the events that makes the annual genre festival unique! Also on the program: a fun round of 'Rapid Fire 15' with the guest, Becky's Deep Cut Slasher of the Week, Halloween knock-offs, horror trivia, and more! This week on The Fright Crew, we decided to pull Huesera: The Bone Woman from 2022 directed by Michelle Garza Cervera out of the Body Bag! We talk about Courtney's experience seeing this at 2022's Telluride Horror Show film fest and what the audience experience with it was like. We also talk about how deeply saddening this film is to us. We are both also super split on the ending of the film as to what it could all mean. Also, if any of our audience are pregnant, we love and support you! You do you! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefrightcrew/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thefrightcrew/support
Today on the pod, Courtney breaks down the movies that she was able to catch while at the amazing Telluride Horror Show. Which films does she recommend? What creators and films should be on your radar? And if you stick around, the two of us break down majority of the horror releases that came out this October. Spoiler alert: there wasn't a whole lot that knocked us off of our feet sadly. But there's always next year. San Miguel County Search and Rescue conducts two successful missions, Colorado State Outdoor Recreation grants $90k to Telluride avalanche educators, decriminalizing psilocybin on the Colorado ballot, and Telluride Horror Show is this weekend.
This installment of The PAPER STREET Podcast finds Becky and Shawn on a short hiatus due to production, work, and travel schedules, so they've offered up their original test show as a special bonus episode! Initially recorded on Leap Day of 2020, right before a global pandemic would shut down theaters and festivals and delay a number of films, the hosts speculate wildly on the still-new coronavirus, touch on their respective filmmaking backgrounds and genre love, and answer their own version of what would became the 'Rapid Fire 15' that they play with their guests. There's no in-depth film and filmmaking discussion on this one, just your trusty co-hosts working out technical kinks and feeling each other out, because they literally did not know one another before this test run! But you will hear them namedrop things--including Telluride Horror Show, '80s slashers and action movies, bad puns, and Quibi (RIP)— that, now two years later, have been referenced so frequently, they're essentially running gags (or bingo boxes, if you will) of the program. Hope you enjoy this "getting to know you" edition with Shawn and Becky! For show notes and more on this and previous episodes, please visit paperstreetpodcast.com.
This week we chat about both the festivals we went to this year! The best, the worst, and the question from Mile High Horror Film Festival and Telluride Horror Show.
This week we get excited for Telluride Horror Show 2021, which we will be attending this weekend! See you there if you are going! Check out their site here.
Candyman! Candyman! Candyman! Candyman! Candyman!!! On this very special, emergency episode, the Fang Girls review Nia Dacosta's new Candyman. Devyn and Emily were treated to an advance screening courtesy of their friends at Telluride Horror Show. Spoiler alert: the girls LOVE this movie. Is the biggest scare of the night eating at a chain restaurant before the show? Does Emily end up summoning Candyman? And how bad does this eerie urban legend ruin the girls' lives?? Tune in to find out!
This we we chat about a lot of news! from Terrifier 2 to a new documentary about Russian Mysteries in the mountains! Then we chat about trailers and how Creepshow season 2 was to DIE for...get it.
James turns on the microphone and just goes. The Telluride Horror Show, tracking devices, self-reflection, and more are covered in this thrill ride of an episode (thrills not guaranteed). On this installment of The PAPER STREET Podcast, Shawn Talley is joined once again by Becky Sayers, who talks about her big move and brings her beau, Brad McHargue, onboard to jointly recap this year's shelter-in-place edition of the Telluride Horror Show. They discuss the challenges they faced hosting both the festival and the activities surrounding it (including their annual horror trivia contest) virtually, the interactivity and sense of community of its loyal attendees, as well as a few standout films from the fest. The hosts then welcome actor and filmmaker Brea Grant to the program. After acting stints on shows including Dexter, Heroes, and Friday Night Lights, and appearances in films like AFTER MIDNIGHT, BEYOND THE GATES, and Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN II, Brea has transitioned into a successful writing and directing career. They discuss her crazy year, her recent features LUCKY and 12 HOUR SHIFT, and her own podcast, Reading Glasses. Gather 'round, ye lil fuckos! We're back with week two of our Telluride Horror Show 2019 double header! This week we're breaking down the new, ultra-bloody, hyper-stylized, siege movie from Joe Begos, 2019's V.F.W. (Review after the break at 42:15). Joe Begos may well be the director we've reviewed the most in the show's seven year history and the guys have been divided on each one of his films. Will V.F.W. be the Begos film to unify us, for better or worse? Guess there's only one way to find out. Huh, dork? It’s a Halloween Special, WITHIN A HALLOWEEN SPECIAL!!! The boys postponed the Monstoberfest action, in favor of a little Monstemberfest bleed (we’re committed to this bit). This gives us a little space to bring you: Matt, Trevor, and Mark bring you the low down from two miles up (give or take) in the beautiful mountain community of Telluride, Colorado. As it would so happen, the Telluride Horror Show was also in town- so we have a lot of relevant stuff to talk about. There will be no spoilers for these films. The guys talk about hotly anticipated films from Hulu and Netflix, ELI and WOUNDS. Matt has opinions on the film 1BR, Mark talks THE DEEPER YOU DIG, and Trevor makes the case for SCARE PACKAGE. And sure to become a fan favorite, VFW gets a look from our panel, while opinions differ on the upcoming THE LODGE. Don't forget the word is: Don't miss SWEETHEART. Also! Coincidentally, spectral guest co-ghost Mark Ball, who dabbles in action figure animation, worked on this newly released video from the band Pleasure People, for their single Miss Midnight. The guys want you to look out for MAKING MONSTERS and AFTER MIDNIGHT. Two horror films that want to play and expand into very different but very interesting territories in the genre. Welcome to Episode 135 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things geek and nerd related, provided our DVR's have space and our Netflix accounts are our own and none others. This week the Geeks (Mitch, Jeff, Nate, Jake and Matt Orrin) are joined by Monica Nevi, a comic and film maker based out of Los Angeles, at the Sexpot Comedy Studios located above the awesome Mutiny Information Cafe for another packed episode of geeky goodness. Monica, much like Jeff, is a big basketball fan so we talked a lot about the NBA and the WNBA. We talked about the greatness of old teams, the movement of teams like the Seattle Supersonics, and her documentary webseries 80 for 80. On it, she interviews octogenarians with sports related questions. Well, you can't talk about sports, like basketball, without mentioning Space Jam. Monica shared her favorite line from that movie, which involved a conversation between Bill Murray and Michael Jordan. Could we see more basketball related movies, or TV shows? Maybe we could get a new channel, such as The CWNBA? Daredevil season 3 has been released on Netflix and the man with no fear definitely doesn't disappoint this time around, neither does Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. This all happened at the same time that Netflix dropped Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, from their roster of shows. The last came as a surprise to all, and we throw our thoughts out on why this happened. Is it because of Disney releasing their own streaming service in the near future? Does it have to do with ratings? Listen to find out. Matt Orrin just got back from the Telluride Horror Show, a horror film festival set in one of the most beautiful parts of Colorado, and talks about the fun times he had. He met Stephen Chiodo, director of Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and even hung out with him over the weekend. They were Festies! There were a lot of fun, and some scary, movies at the fest and they talked about one call Mega Time Squad, which allows a person with the cursed amulet to create a copy of himself and go back in time. Not exactly like Madrox, the Multiple Man, but that led to interesting conversations about him. How many copies can he make of himself, and does he lose strength and power with each copy? If you could copy yourself, how many would YOU need to get through each day? We put the magic number at around 3-4 copies. We finish up with the regular topics, such as CW shows, comic books, new movies, and Clint Howard. We also talk about the new Halloween movie, which Nate saw and enjoyed. He talks about it but there are no big spoilers. If you havent already checked out Denver Open Media, and what they have offered then go to https://www.denveropenmedia.org As you might already know, we'll be on Tuesday nights at 10pm. Marc Price is writer, director, camera operator, editor & producer of COLIN, which was internationally renowned for its minuscule production budget and became known as the ‘£45/$70 feature film'. Told entirely from the perspective of a sympathetic zombie, COLIN received a wealth of critical acclaim and screened at the Cannes Film Festival as well as Raindance, Frightfest and Sitges. COLIN was even praised in a recent GQ interview by Martin Scorsese who called it "Savage, with an energy that takes the zombie idea to another level".Marc performed similar duties on his second feature "Magpie", which was released theatrically in the US last summer. Marc has also directed bumpers and shorts for Film 4's Frightfest and is currently developing 2 television series with Lime Pictures and E4 along with a zombie-based show for CBBC and PBS through MopMedia. He has recently completed production on two features this year. An action thriller Nightshooters (distributor, Ascendant Releasing) and western Fistful of Lead (distributor, Sony US). Marc occasionally works with the BFI Education Department, passing on his experience as a low budget film maker and often inviting students to work on various film projects. In this episode we chat about Star Wars, getting fired from productions, his new films Nightshooters & Fistful of Lead, and tons more! Scream Addicts Podcast: Horror movies | Movie reviews | Horror
Session 9 with Telluride Horror Show host/programmer Brad McHargue For our newest episode, Jinx welcomes Brad McHargue to the show. A screenwriter as well as the host and programmer of the Telluride Horror Show film festival, Mr. McHargue has chosen Brad Anderson’s 2001 horror/thriller Session 9 for discussion this week. A deeply creepy film which has enjoyed cult status since its release sixteen years ago, Session 9 inspires a chat which touches on the film’s current standing as a neglected gem, its surprising yet inevitable ending, and whether or not its disturbing events are in any way supernatural. Along the way, we discuss the movie’s marvelous setting, why Room 237 deserves our scorn, and which of us is a closeted Sweet Home Alabama fan (spoiler: it’s Jinx). It’s a great conversation with a fantastic guest, and it’s one we hope you enjoy! Find out more about the Telluride Horror Show at www.telluridehorrorshow.com. Make certain to scream at us on Twitter! We are: @BradMcHargue @ScreamAddicts @Jinx1981
