Coming right up…. the years top 5 favorites…Welcome to the top 5 Love Your Story Podcast episodes of 2023. Let's start with #5.#5 falls to one of our latest episodes. It's called “Voices of Healing” it's episode #252. It's a compilation episode where I pulled in clips from lots of past interviews so we heard from Todd Sylvester, Amanda Grow, Dianne Butterfield, Trevor Lay….and others about their healing journeys. I think this episode was so powerful because we learn from one another, and when we pull in real life healing stories from so many different people, with different experiences, as well as professionals, well…there's a lot to learn and something for everyone. We all have things to heal from, so we all want to understand this path better. Here's a clip….Tune in to hear the clip...If you want to hear all the stories from this favorite, go back to episode 252, this one launched on Aug. 23 of this year, and take a listen to the whole show.Ok. Here we are at #4 - the number 4 favorite episode of 2023 was episode 239: my interview with Chris Hawker. This episode was titled: Tools to Magnify our Worthiness. I loved my chat with Chris because he is a man that has been in the leadership of Next Level Trainings - which was where I did a great deal of my work in moving my life forward - learning to reframe my stories. Chris came on the podcast and was honest and vulnerable about his own struggle with feelings of unworthiness. We talked about how these stories of unworthiness happen, how he navigated his, and then we get to hear some of his wonderful suggestion for reframing those erroneous and destructive feelings. I think this one is a favorite because working through any feelings of unworthiness is an important part of really becoming YOU. Here's a clip:Tune in to hear the clip...to hear the rest of his story about his road to truly embracing his real self worth… - again, it's episode 239 and it aired on February 22 of this year. Now on to #3 top fav for 2023. It's none other than What Kindness Can Do with Peter Mutabazi in episode 242.Peter Mutabazi grew up in Uganda. In this episode we hear his whole story - the brave escape from an abusive father at 10 years old, his subsequent life as a child living on the streets struggling daily to stay alive, and the fortuitous meeting of a man who would change Peter's life, and in so doing change the lives his siblings, their children, and all the children Peter now helps as a foster parent. This was part 1 of a two part series that was just incredible. One of my favorite interviews because he story is shocking, incredible, and how often do you get to speak with someone who was there to see the Tutsi and Hutu massacre in Rwanda - he talks about that in the second episode in this series, What Hate Can Do. The whole thing was incredible. Here is the beginning of his story.Tune in to hear the clip...Again, to listen to the whole episode and the next episode -it's a 2 part series, for his whole incredible story. He's amazing. Now for the #2 favorite of the year….. Episode 244 - Tips on Connecting with Your Man. My interview with Laura Doyle. I found it super...

Steve joins Belief Cast with Todd Sylvester. They explore the power of focused energy management for personal development and happiness, underlining the "EVOLVE" methodology's three phases: initiation, development, and elevation. On this episode, Steve and Todd delve into the concept of concentrated focus, and its correlation to time and productivity. They highlight the power of focusing on one thing at a time, emphasizing that it's not about how much time we have but how effectively we utilize our energy and skills. They assert that genuine happiness stems from applying our knowledge, skills, and abilities effectively. They also unravel the subjective nature of time, postulating that it is a relative construct shaped by our focus and the energy we put into tasks. They argue that by managing our energy efficiently and focusing on our goals, we can enhance our level of happiness and productivity. Furthermore, Steve and Todd explore the importance of tuning into our energy levels and emotional state while working towards our objectives. They contend that understanding our peak energy periods can aid in tackling challenging tasks more efficiently. Highlighting a unique methodology called "EVOLVE", they explain its three phases - initiation, development, and elevation. They underline that the initiation phase encourages starting with small, consistent steps to progressively move towards our goals. Finally, the hosts wrap up by reiterating the idea that time is a by-product of focus and energy. They encourage their listeners to recognize their personal energy patterns and leverage them to foster a productive and contented life.

He talks about the despair he felt, the shame, the anger at God --- and then how he was able to find peace and hope. Devin talks about dating men and eventually losing temple privileges. But he talks about great priesthood leaders who love him, create no shame, and working with him in a positive way that is helping Devin stay in the Church (currently working towards regaining temple privileges). Devin also talks about the great role of his mom and siblings in his life. Devin, with the help of his life coach Todd Sylvester (a dear friend) is helping Devin to “own your story or your story will own you” and how to not “be ruled by fear”. We seem to be too attached to the labels we put ourselves. When we are stripped of these, and things don't go the way we want them, what likely happens? Depression and anxiety set in, and that would further lead to addiction. How do you overcome them and turn your life for the better? Todd Sylvester calls himself a belief system master. And for the last 30 years, Todd has served as a mentor and personal development coach for those looking to get more out of life, move beyond limiting beliefs and overcome addictions. Todd is an experienced motivational speaker and has conducted over 1500 speaking engagements at businesses, seminars, schools, churches, and youth groups. He's the host of the Beliefcast podcast, and he's got an incredible story about his own journey overcoming addiction and becoming his best self. In this episode, Todd shares his all-or-nothing mentality in getting better at his favorite sport at an early age. Just when he was at the peak of his career, everything fell because of drug addiction and alcoholism. That was the darkest moment in his life. Everything seemed to dim, and he couldn't see the light ahead. He lost himself to the brink of suicide. For him, everything seems futile. He fell into depression and anxiety and almost couldn't get out of it. What's more, alcoholism and drugs got the better of him. But despite it all, he got up, learned his lesson, and took a turn in life for the better. What used to be a selfish lifestyle turned out to be a life-giving existence for others. Listen to that interesting lemonade story he shares as that's where everything started for the better, and that's when he realized a mantra that he now lives by every day. He has his hurtful past to thank for when it comes to connecting deeply with his clients and other people. It has given him the wisdom and deep understanding of what they are going through in life as he had once been there in their shoes. And that he is encouraging everyone that the only way you can fight addiction is to strengthen your connection. Have the humility to ask for help. Let people know you're struggling so you get out where you're stuck and move forward. "We label ourselves, I'm an athlete, or I'm a basketball player, I'm a baseball player, I'm a dancer, I'm a teacher. And those are all good things to be. But these are things that we do; it's not who we are. And when we think it's who we are, and it goes away, we're in trouble. If we lean on anything that can be snatched away in an instant, we will fall and be bruised." - Todd Sylvester What you will learn from this episode: 01:00 - Being a huge Michael Jordan fan 02:17 - How he was so obsessed with basketball 04:48 - A combination of a supportive dad and all-or-nothing mentality towards basketball 06:53 - "Adversity and addiction is your wake-up call to your greatness." 08:05 - The difference between motivation and drive 09:25 - The 21/90 rule 11:44 - His first experience of alcohol and drugs and what made him fell for them 15:42 - The stigma attached to both alcohol and marijuana and what it does to you and your life 18:15 - His approach to making people aware of the negative consequence of using marijuana 19:37 - Creating awareness about anxiety and overcoming it 24:30 - How drugs, alcohol, and partying are catching up with his athletic performance 30:00 - A wakeup call for messing up 31:21 - Why many struggled with depression and anxiety 34:26 - That lemonade stand - his life's turning point 42:16 - Talking about the principle of if you want to be... give it away 46:26 - How he builds a trusting relationship with a client 47:58 - The way he cares about someone 50:22 - Connection is the opposite of addiction: Why we need to let people know we're struggling Connect with Todd Sylvester: toddinspires.com Facebook Instagram Connect with Gavin McHale maverickcoachingacademy.ca LinkedIn Instagram

Weston is truly one of the most joyful humans that I have ever met. He and I connected after he heard my podcast episode on Todd Sylvester's podcast “Beliefcast”. Immediately, I felt supported, encouraged, and uplifted by him, which lead to me of course asking about his story. Weston's story is incredible! His story and witness of God will remind you that you are God's child, He is aware of you and loves you, and there is nothing that we cannot overcome in this life when we invite Him into our lives and let Him lead us. Weston's mother died when he was 8, his father was an alcoholic growing up. He was teased and bullied by grade school peers when his mother died which affected his self esteem daily. To overcome loneliness and shame Weston turned to Alcohol, Marijuana, Meth, etc… and began turning to them daily. Soon after graduating High school, Weston and his girl friend had a baby together and Unexpectedly a police officer, who was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the same church that Weston was raised in, called Weston out of the blue and said he wanted to give something to Weston, scared that he was going to be arrested Weston accepted and he was given a book about his mother. Reading this book was the first time Weston felt Gods love for him. He tried hard to overcome the drinking and drug addictions but he didn't have the tools or the help to overcome it. After a few short experiences in and out of jail, he lost the right to take care of his children and he began facing the shame. Weston talks about his co-dependency with women, due to losing his mother at such an young age and coping with that by always finding women to spend time with, which most often times to using drugs together. He explains that he truly longed to be loved by a woman, and tried to reconcile with his X, which didn't happen, and he became so depressed that suicide began an option for him. Life was very dark for Weston to the point that he decided he wanted to not only use drugs but deal drugs so that people would need him. Feeling needed caused Weston's ego to explode and he felt on top of the world, but that only lasted for so long… He was in an out of jail multiple times and during his last arrest, he was so broken that he finally gave the idea of needing to change his life, space. Homeless, alone, and desperately in need of help, Weston reached out to a brother. Weston's brother had been feeling feelings that Weston was in trouble in the days leading up to Weston's call, so he came running to Weston's help. Rules were made, boundaries were set, his brother made him go to a recovery center which was exactly what Weston was finally ready for because he was broken and humbled. Enter God… Weston began to read the Book of Mormon and focus on surrendering to God. He felt the light come into his life. Although he believed in God even through it all, he didn't choose to put himself in a position to be found by God, but this time in humility and meekness he was ready to give himself to God. Weston bears a sincere and humble testimony and witness of Jesus Christ and of Jesus Christ's Atoning Sacrifice for each and every one of us. He went from a man that had absolutely nothing going for him, surrounded in darkness and loneliness, to a life full of light and energy, ready to lift and serve others and committed to being an incredible father for his children. His faith is nothing short of miraculous and he now looks back at the past and with thankfulness shares his gratitude for the the soul stretching trials that he has passed through, and the addictions that in the past ruled his life, because it is as a result of the struggles, mistakes, and darkness, that he has found the light, redemption, and unconditional love of his Savior Jesus Christ. Make sure to stay tuned until the end as Weston shares a heart felt message to his children. Weston, you are such an incredible man. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your story and witness with us. You are a hero and will help so many as you continue to share your story, Share your witness of Jesus Christ. You are a light brother, let it shine!!

Todd's strengthening sense of purpose sparked a fervent determination to change his life and to prevent others from enduring the physical and emotional pain that had threatened his very existence. Episode 161 The Power of the Human Soul - Interview: Todd Sylvester Today let’s gather around the technological campfire and hear the story of Todd Sylvester, addict turned inspiration. How does our hero come to be addicted to drugs and alcohol as a teen and how did he find his way out of that dark hole? What led him to try and help teens and young people not make his same mistakes and instead take hope in who they are? Stay tuned. His story is featured in Simon Sinek’s new book, “Find Your Why,” and today we’ll get a sneak peak at HIS why. Todd Sylvester learned that the human soul is more powerful than addiction after he beat his own addiction over 25 years ago. In 1989 he founded the non-profit, anti-drug entity Sly Dog “Drug Free That’s Me, which features a sought after education program for elementary schools. This program has encouraged over 100 thousand school-age students while emphasizing principles of positive self-talk (the stories we’re telling ourselves), personal commitment, goal setting and character building. He’s a podcaster, author, speaker and inspiration. When I heard you speak at a conference up at the University of Utah last year I loved your 4 Life Changing Principles because they were right up my alley – you were preaching to the preacher, so I want you to share those, but before you do can you tell us your story? Tune into the audio program to hear Todd's story - how he got started, what rock bottom looked like, and the little girl that helped pull him out of his hole. No one grows up thinking “I want to be an addict when I grow up and lose control over my own choices.” But somehow lots and lots of people end up walking that messy, destructive path. There are lots of things we can get addicted to, and the tragedy with addiction is the way something else takes over our body and our agency. A few months ago I had a friend who fell off the wagon after years of being drug-free. That one decision did serious damage to his career, his bank account, his family relationships, his self respect, and a number of other things he’d been developing in his life. The saying goes, “Once and addict, always an addict,” and so we see the importance of not starting that battle in the first place, or life becomes a constant struggle on and off the wagon. I love Todd’s work because these lessons – the loss and destruction that accompanies addiction, are not ones that we want anyone to have to learn. If we, as people, can be taught, as children, the importance of not stepping anywhere near this path, entire lives can be saved and massive heartache avoided. If you feel Todd’s story could warn or help anyone you know, please pass it along to them. If you have a local elementary school where his program could help children, maybe look into it and pass it along. Now as a speaker and mentor he helps others trapped by addiction or other behavioral challenges to overcome them. The lessons could be relevant for anyone seeking to overcome any self-limiting challenge. Todd offers three keys to overcoming the challenges in our lives. First, he says, “You’re OK.” “Understanding that you are OK is one of the most empowering truths we can and should embrace,” he says. People are trapped by their self image, he says. “I have found with my clients that the three most common limiting beliefs they hold onto is that they are powerless, broken or damaged, and they are a victim of their circumstances. This keeps them in a self-made prison.” “These belief systems create a story they tell themselves about themselves and this story is a fairy tale,” he continues. “The fairy tale keeps them wallowing in their own misery but when they become aware that they are OK and have always been OK, the self-made prison is shattered. When they understand this simple yet powerful truth, they laugh themselves silly!” --------------- Read the full Your Mark on the World article and watch the interview here: http://bit.ly/2fPpIXp.
