In this briefing, Kelly highlights some of the most important aspects of the movie to help parents grasp the weight of what it depicts. What happens when renters start their apartment search with ChatGPT instead of Google? In this episode, Reid sits down with Jennifer Cyphers, Founder and CEO of Pinwheel, to discuss how AI is changing apartment search, leasing, and the way prospects discover communities. Jennifer shares why 30% of search is already beginning through chat interfaces, how Pinwheel is adapting to an AI-driven world, and why multifamily teams need to rethink the renter journey. The conversation also explores self-guided tours, spatial intelligence, digital leasing experiences, and why the most important leasing decisions often happen after a renter has already chosen a property. It's a fascinating look at where multifamily marketing and leasing are headed next.
We live in a culture where it seems that the generations are at war with one another, families are falling apart – some going no contact, and children are increasingly without skills, purpose, and hope. Perhaps this is because we’ve lost sight of the benefits that intergenerational relationships bring. What children need to learn and experience is not what the internet offers. They need the slow, offline activities that grandparents can teach. They need to be reminded of their roots and to receive a heritage of faith, traditions, memories, virtue, and skills. In today’s podcast, Kelly argues for the essential role grandparents play in children’s lives. Both parents and grandparents listening will receive encouragement and practical steps to restore relationships, establish screen-free relational time between grandparents and grandchildren, persevere with kids who may resist slow, character-building activities, and understand why this is part of God’s design for the family. AI tools can perform incredible feats of computation. They can also displace human relationships, outsource learning, distort reality, and pretend to have wisdom. Christian families have a responsibility not to conform to the patterns of this world (Rom 12:2) but to test everything, hold on to what is good, and reject what is evil (1 Thes. 5:21). In this episode, Kelly provides a four-pillar biblical framework for evaluating AI tools and whether they are appropriate or beneficial for children. The four pillars are (1) Imago Dei, (2) Attributes of God, (3) Truth, and (4) Formation. Each pillar offers a preventative or protective measure and a practical application question parents can use to disciple children in the age of AI. The Enhanced Games took place over Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. The founders boasted they were making history and redefining what the human body is capable of. What was the evidence for this? Performance-enhancing drugs and bio-hacking in the name of becoming ‘superhuman.’ In this briefing, Kelly explains why stories like this matter and are valuable opportunities to talk to kids about what it means to be human. Kids are bombarded with messages to ‘enhance themselves’ with everything from skin care rituals to looksmaxxing. It is critical for parents to start this conversation. When it comes to a kid having their own smartphone, trust is a much more complex issue than Peter Gray alludes to. Allowing a smartphone requires a parent to trust the child, their own parenting, Big Tech, the attention economy, and the whole of sinful mankind with access to the internet. In today’s episode – Part 10 of 10 – Kelly counters the benefit of “being trusted” as a benefit to smartphone ownership. In reality, trust can be given and earned in many ways that do not involve persuasive and personalized design features. Scripture gives so much wisdom on how and who we are to trust. Recent Barna research revealed that teens spend an average of 4.8 hours a day on social media. In this time, are they learning critical digital skills essential for success in life? When kids play games on iPads or watch YouTube videos, are they learning essential skills? In today’s episode, Kelly continues the examination of Peter’s Gray list of benefits for kids’ smartphone ownership: Developing Digital Skills. What exactly are digital skills? Are they learned by swiping, tapping, and watching? And most importantly, what is God’s purpose for childhood – is it to master skills or to grow in wisdom and faith? From a pragmatic standpoint, this benefit seems legit. From a biblical standpoint, digital skills look a whole lot like digital devotion. Summer is an amazing time of rest and refreshing. Because screen time is a central part of so many students’ lives, this detail often feels most important. But beyond screen time, we want to encourage parents to take a different approach and ask the question: “What kind of character will be formed in my child this summer?” Discipleship is teaching and reinforcing Christ-like Character in every aspect of life – and that doesn’t get a summer vacation. We all know that friendship and connection to peers are a critical part of what it means to be human, especially during childhood. The question parents must contend with is what kind of peer connection do children need, and how does that connection shape a child’s character, faith, and worldview? Because we all know the smartphone is the most convenient tool for this connection, but at what cost and with what risk? In Part 9 of our series evaluating the proposed benefits of smartphones for kids, as described by Dr. Peter Gray on his Substack, “Play Makes Us Human,” Kelly challenges the claim that adults have ruined childhood in the physical world and that children have wisely recreated it in the virtual world. Enjoyment and entertainment are not inherently sinful, but because smartphones are engineered to capture time and attention, entertainment can grow to master a person's life. And this is true for any age! In today's episode, we are evaluating the benefit of smartphones for “amusement” as described by Dr. Peter Gray. Is this a real benefit for kids? Is it a biblically faithful way to raise kids? What is lost when airpods are always in? When distraction is always available? When ‘not thinking’ becomes the goal? How did kids creatively express themselves before digital screens and the internet? Do smartphone kids “build” and “express” themselves in ways that are beneficial – or biblical? In this episode, Kelly continues her series countering the beneficial claims Dr. Peter Gray cites in his Substack, Play Makes Us Human. This week, the claim is that the smartphone is a beneficial tool for creative self-expression. Kelly argues that biblical creativity is meant for God’s glory and the edification of others, rather than the self-promotion and audience-driven validation that occurs when sharing one’s creativity online. Is the smartphone the greatest educational tool ever created? In today’s episode, Kelly counters Dr. Peter Gray’s claim, arguing that smartphones provide information and convenience, which are not the same as education. Even if you don’t define education as structured, systematic instruction by adults, the smartphone still isn’t a tool that positively shapes a child’s character, work ethic, and spiritual wisdom. A smartphone lets you document life with an ever-present camera and note-taking capabilities. Is this something beneficial for kids? Will it build character? Will it help them be present and more aware of their reality? On the other hand, what does growing up not having access to these smartphone features lead to? Will they be worse off? Have less documented memories? In today’s episode, Kelly evaluates this claimed benefit of “documentation” from both Dr. Peter Gray’s perspective and historical and biblical perspectives. Podcast discovery feels harder in 2026, not because creators stopped trying, but because attention is now split across podcast apps, YouTube, short-form video feeds, newsletters, and search-driven recommendations. On this recorded episode of the New Media Show, host Rob Greenlee shares the screen and a microphone with Arielle Nissenblatt, 2026 Podcast Hall of Famer and Founder of EarBuds Podcast Collective and Head of Community and Content at Pinwheel by Audily, to break down what is actually changing right now and what creators can still do that consistently grows audience and trust. “Arielle brings a listener-first, creator-first perspective that cuts through the noise. Platforms matter, but they are not the whole story. If a show is not clearly positioned, consistently delivered, and genuinely recommendable, the best metadata in the world will not create retention.” This episode focuses on the practical middle ground: respect the power of platforms, but build your growth strategy around behaviors you can control. “A big part of that conversation is Apple's renewed push into video podcasts and what an HLS-based video experience signals for the direction of distribution.” Rob frames it as part of a broader convergence toward a unified listen-and-watch experience, where measurement and monetization are easier for platforms when content is native. “Arielle agrees that video is becoming an important top-of-funnel entry point, not because every show should be video-first, but because platforms can more easily optimize what they can see, track, and sell.” We also talk through Spotify's monetization strategy and what it means when major platforms keep building native paths to get paid. The underlying point is that creators need to understand the economics behind product decisions. “The more platforms own the experience, the more they can shape the rules of distribution, monetization, and visibility.” Then we get into the part that matters most for working creators: what still works. “Arielle argues that recommendation culture remains one of the most underused growth engines in podcasting. Word of mouth, curated lists, and community flywheels can outperform algorithm chasing, especially for shows that serve a clear audience with a clear promise.” That is exactly why EarBuds has remained durable for years in a market that constantly reinvents itself. “Human curation is still a superpower because it creates trusted signals that travel even when platforms turn the knobs.” Community comes up too, with a reality check. Not every show needs a community, and not every audience wants one. “The test is whether people are already reaching for a deeper connection and shared identity around your content. When that demand exists, the community can compound trust and retention. When it does not, forcing it can drain your energy and distract you from the actual product, the show.” If you are building in 2026, the creators who win are not the ones who panic-switch formats every quarter. They are the ones who lock in a format strategy, build audience ownership where possible, and package their content for multiple environments without losing the core promise that makes listeners return. Quick answers people are searching for: Is podcast discovery broken in 2026? It is fragmented. People discover shows across apps, video platforms, newsletters, and search experiences, so creators need packaging that works across multiple paths. Do I need a video to grow a podcast? Not always. Video is becoming a common entry point, but growth still comes from clarity, consistency, and ease of recommendation. What is the fastest reliable growth lever right now? Recommendation loops: collaborations, curated lists, newsletters, and audience sharing that create real trust signals. What should creators prioritize this year? Format strategy, audience ownership, cross-platform packaging, and a repeatable workflow you can sustain. Rosalia Rivera, a fervent Founder and Co-Founder for Consent Parenting and Brave Movement.org joins us to dissect the multifaceted challenges of raising children in a tech-saturated era. Together, we discuss the urgent issue of online harm regarding the lack of tech transparency of CSAM, (Child Sexual Abuse Material) sexploitation of teens and youth being targets through online apps, social media platforms and online gaming. By describing the internet and the app store to a bustling mall that kids can actively browse and instantly download, without any age gating or device age regulation, we underscore the need for parental vigilance and legislative measures like the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) to shield our youth from unintended digital dangers and predatory harms. Our conversation emphasizes the critical role parents, our communities and our non-profits continue to advocate for tech KOSA policy, which was a supported issue by both parties of Congress in 2024, but has since been sidelined. However, with the proliferation of AI Sexual Content on the rise, KOSA and AI safety regulation need to be that play a vital role in the digital landscape as we are moving faster into the AI stratosphere. As we both do support technology as critical tools to help our daily lives, we turn our attention to the innovative technologies and organizations dedicated to child safety, such as BARK PHONES, THORN and HEAT. Companies like Bark and Pinwheel offer phone solutions alternatives for monitoring digital interactions, while organizations such as Thorne, Heat and Child Rescue Coalition work tirelessly to combat child exploitation. The discussion pivots to our own tech habits and the powerful influence they wield on our children. By advocating for mindful technology use and supporting companies that prioritize child safety, we encourage listeners to take an active role in shaping a safer digital future for all. Join us on Latinas from the Block to the Boardroom as we champion a proactive approach to technology, empowering parents and particularly women of color, in these essential conversations. Pinwheel offers smartphones and smartwatches designed specifically for kids, with robust parental controls that go beyond traditional monitoring. Their innovative approach allows parents to control app access, track GPS, and even provide a kid-friendly AI chatbot that gives age-appropriate answers. But digital safety is just the beginning. Craig Robinson takes the conversation further with his children's book series "Bull and Bear," which makes complex financial concepts accessible to kids and parents alike. Robinson, who manages over $1.5 billion in assets, believes financial literacy should start early. His books use engaging characters to explain everything from stock market basics to the importance of bonds in community development. Key takeaways for parents include: Technology isn't going away, so teach healthy digital habits early Monitor your child's online interactions without constant confrontation Use real-life experiences to introduce financial concepts Consider tools that provide safety and educational opportunities Start conversations about money and technology when kids are young Both Tyler and Robinson emphasize a crucial point: parents are the first and most important educators. For parents feeling overwhelmed by technology and financial complexity, this episode offers hope and practical strategies. Before co-founding Spade, Tess spent two years at the leading income and employment connectivity API, Pinwheel, where she started as the Chief of Staff before becoming its Head of Operations. In these roles, she helped scale the Pinwheel team 14 to 100 employees and supported growth that helped the company raise a $50M Series B. Previously, Tess also worked for McKinsey & Company in London, where she focused on payments, private equity, and public and social sector work, but her passion for fintech didn't start there. Already, before graduating from Stanford, she realized her interest in the financial services ecosystem early on in her career, starting an internship at Venmo in her freshman year and taking time off during her junior year to work there full time. About Spade Spade provides real-time merchant intelligence for the card ecosystem. Spade leverages its ground truth database to link any card transaction to a real merchant identity – providing granular merchant, category, and geolocation information. Spade leads the market in terms of merchant coverage, geolocation matching accuracy, and speed of transaction enrichment. Customers such as Mercury, Sardine, Ramp, and Unit trust Spade's data to authorize more transactions, prevent fraud, and build more innovative features. — As always, for more Fintech insights and opportunities to collaborate, please find us below: WFT LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/wharton-fintech-club/ WFT Twitter: twitter.com/whartonfintech WFT Blog: medium.com/wharton-fintech WFT Home: www.whartonfintech.org Rhea's Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rheaa/
