Overtime With Coach Blu: Stages of love

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 16, 2024 33:12

STAGES OF LOVE    1. Falling in love 2. Falling out of love and 3. Learning how to love and be loved    Building Blocks of a Great Relationship   1. Trust. Our first essential task, according to Erickson's theory of the psychosocial stages of life, involves trust versus mistrust. It should be no surprise that our first goal in life is to master trust, since that is the basis for all of our relationships moving forward. For many of us, our earliest experiences have been positive enough to allow us to adopt a trusting attitude. Some, though, have great difficulty with this, perhaps as a result of instability, inconsistency, invasion of boundaries, or even actual threat of harm or alienation. Mistrust can manifest in isolation and avoidance of intimacy.   2. Commitment. Once trust is established, our focus shifts to a decision about whom we will invite to share ourselves and our lives with; those to whom we will commit our full attention, time, and energy. Commitment is reserved for only those people who have proven that they are capable of sticking around for the long haul and are ready, willing, and able to share themselves with us, and to have us do the same. Think loyalty.   3. Intimacy. This means that we care enough and are comfortable enough to share all aspects of ourselves. We feel the desire to open our soul to someone who cares enough about us to understand and support us fully in most everything we do. Intimacy implies vulnerability: We are willing to show parts of ourselves we are not so sure about—our weaknesses, our neuroses, and the things we like least about ourselves. We feel down deep that the ones we choose to have in our lives know us and accept us, warts and all.   4. Respect. The word literally means “regard,” or “to look back at.” Interesting, since most of us would probably say that respect has come to mean a kind of veneration—having a deep reverence for someone or something. And certainly, those with whom we are most intimate deserve this, as do we. But the origin of the word shows us something very different. When it comes to an intimate relationship, it's about the mutual mirroring of emotions, feelings, and beliefs. Respect says, “What I see in you I hold as just as important as what I see in myself.”   5. Communication. This can mean any kind of transmission between people, including non-verbal. We are all too familiar with times when our communication seems to be at cross-purposes. People are talking, but not really listening; their own agenda is far too important to include someone else's. Good communication is facilitated by trust, commitment, and respect. We communicate in a healthy relationship for a common purpose; which also, by the way, is what the word actually means. We are trying to express how we feel and what we believe in, and we need to do so in an environment that is safe, supportive, accepting, and loving; one that is totally free of judgment, criticism, alienation, and anguish.   6. Empathy. In essence, empathy means being able to feel and understand, as well as anyone can feel and understand anyone other than themselves. And it means being able to walk in someone else's shoes. Once you intimately understand and experience another, the ability to feel what they feel (as close to the way they actually feel it), to know what they're thinking (almost reading their mind), and to understand how they process what is happening to them becomes easier.   7. Forgiveness Even when your partner does something that upsets you, you must be willing to forgive them. This doesn't mean you have to forget it, but you must be able to discuss what happened and move on after an apology and some time has passed.   8. Autonomy You may love your time with your spouse but wish to spend time with others. When you want to do your own thing sometimes, this is called autonomy and it is something that must be present in a relationship. Keep in mind that while you get to do the things you want, your partner must also be able to. This keeps everything fair.

When you are dealing with a loved one's addiction, you may feel helpless and afraid. You may not know how to help them or what to do next. The good news is that there are resources available to you that can help you help your loved one. Discussing hard subjects with your family. If your loved one has an addiction, it could be difficult for him or her to open up to you about their struggles. However, it is important that they understand how their behavior affects others around them. If they do not seem interested in discussing their problems, try asking questions such as: "How can I help?" or "What do you need from me right now?" By asking questions that start with "I" instead of "you," it will encourage your loved one to open up about their feelings more easily and honestly. Success early on in battling substance abuse. A person struggling with drug abuse may have trouble getting clean and sober if they have never experienced success in life before. For example, if a person was always told by their parents that they would never amount to anything and had failed at school and at work multiple times throughout their life, then it will be very difficult. Family members and friends can play an important role in helping those with addiction to recover by: Staying involved in the recovery process. Providing encouragement and support. Helping to set boundaries for the addicted person, such as refusing to allow drug use in the home or car. Helping them get treatment for their mental health issues (if needed). Offering positive feedback when they do well and constructive criticism when they don't.

On this episode of the Minor League with Savannah Robinson, she and Coach Blu discuss moving forward and glancing back and how they are complementary actions that shape our journey through life. Moving forward represents our constant drive to grow, evolve, and embrace new experiences. It is the propulsion that propels us towards our goals and aspirations, pushing us beyond our comfort zones. Moving forward allows us to learn from our past, make necessary adjustments, and seize opportunities for personal and professional growth. On the other hand, glancing back is an essential reflection upon our past experiences. It enables us to acknowledge our accomplishments, learn from our mistakes, and gain wisdom from the lessons life has taught us. Glancing back provides us with a broader perspective, helping us appreciate our journey and make informed decisions for the future. Balancing both moving forward and glancing back allows us to navigate our path with intention, resilience, and continuous self-improvement.  For More Infromation Visit; AddictToAthlete.org

Addiction is a complex disease that affects all areas of your life. It can happen to anyone at any age, but it's often easier to ignore the problem than face it head-on. There are many ways to get help for addiction, including seeking treatment through an outpatient facility or intensive outpatient program, or attending support groups or counseling. Live a happy, normal life: After treatment for drug abuse and alcoholism, many people worry about their future because they aren't sure how their lives will look now that drugs or alcohol aren't part of it anymore. It's important to remember that there's no one way to live a happy life — what matters most is that you find what works for you.

The health consequences of drug abuse can be severe and long-lasting, and can include physical and mental health problems such as heart disease, stroke, liver damage, respiratory problems, cancer, anxiety, depression, and addiction. When trying to motivate someone to avoid drug abuse, it can be helpful to emphasize the negative effects that drugs can have on their health, relationships, and future goals. It can also be helpful to offer support and resources for them to make positive changes, such as counseling, support groups, or alternative activities to replace drug use. Staying positive while addressing drug abuse can be challenging, but it's important to focus on the potential for positive change and improvement, both for the individual and their community. Emphasizing the benefits of healthy habits and self-care, such as exercise, meditation, and creative outlets, can provide a positive alternative to drug abuse and encourage a healthier lifestyle.   Follow us at instagram/addicttoathlete.com

She prides herself in helping active women transform their mindsets and beliefs around food, find their true selves, and empower them to ignite their true athletic potential. Her passion stems from my struggles with disordered eating and multiple health battles during my teens, such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Autoimmunity, and bulimia. In her twenties, from overactivity and disordered eating patterns known as orthorexia, she developed the Female Athlete Triad, a complex stemming from low energy intake and leading to a loss of menses and decreased bone density.  All these significantly impacted on her athletic career and could have all been avoided.    She decided to enroll in her Master of Nutrition program so that her eyes were open to other avenues such as Naturopathic Medicine, Acupuncture, Nutrition, Supplementation, Food Sensitivity Testing, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Mindset Reformation. By incorporating these principles, entering a 12-step program known as Celebrate Recovery, and reshaping her relationship with food and herself; she was able to break the chains of disordered eating and regain her athletic ability back. Today, she has now found a deep passion for endurance sports and has an Ironman 70.3 set in her future endeavors.   Her goal is to get to the root cause of the problem spiritually, emotionally, and physically to create new foundations, leading these women to transformation and success in their athletic careers and their lives.  It is an incredibly individualized approach that captures their strengths and uses them to "break the cycle."
