It's more relaxing when you make it yourself. This week's guest on Discover New Music is Dale Stewart of Seether. "The Surface Seems So Far" is the band's 9th studio album and is a heavy piece of work. Without any acoustic songs on the lineup Dale and the guys got aggressive with this record and enjoyed taking their time finding the sound they were looking for. Plus, a quick round of Rapid Fire is played where we learn about Tokoloshe!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On today's episode I will be chatting to indie alt folk artist, Tokoloshe!I first met Tokoloshe in Sin E (adding to the ever extending list of guests on this podcast through that bar) and after his performance we spent the night having a lovely chat about how awesome Sepultura are and how he should come on the podcast. So it was fantastic to finally have him on, especially since we'll be chatting about his lovely latest single, 'Cosmic Holiday', which was released last week on October 7th.The conversation proceeded to go down many avenues, including where the project gets it's name from, BRAT (of course), Aliens (which take a large feature in Tokoloshe's music), AI and it's future use in creative circles, Tool, Mastodon and the music in South Africa.Tokoloshe is going to preforming plenty in the near future so be sure to catch them live wherever you can!Tokoloshe on SpotifyTokoloshe on Instagram Hosted on Acast. Story One – The Gurning Man of GlasgowDuring the late 1970's, the inhabitants of Scotland's largest city were subjected to a series of terrifying encounters with a hideous nocturnal entity, whose incessant twitching and animalistic grunting put the fear of God into those who encountered him. This week, we take a look at the Gurning Man of Glasgow.Story Two – The Night of the TokolosheIn previous episodes, we have explored tales of strange and bizarre creatures. But whilst often enigmatic in nature, few have been quite as malevolent and haunting as the entity we will encounter this week. An African legend in possession of supernatural capabilities, which it utilises to carry out a truly evil agenda. Reading from Credo Mutwa's book, Zulu Shaman, I review the origins of evil according to Zulu history. The Tokoloshe, made of iron, subjugate mankind through sloth, gluttony, and sterility. The Tokoloshe also bear a striking resemblance to what's found in Revelation 9, when the fifth angel sounded his trumpet. In other words, the warnings are timeless and mankind must look backwards to move forward.
This dish contains disturbing content and listener discretion is strongly advised prior to consumption. The tokoloshe is a teeny, tiny, terrible tormentor of peoples across South Africa. The little being, who has been treated as a joke by much of the Western world, is thought to be a very real threat to the region. Tied to everything from theft and fires to assault and death, this creature seems to exist only to cause trouble. But the truth behind the tokoloshe and what it means for many may be darker than the creature itself. A racist past, a violent present, a scape goat, and a witch hunt. Don't mess with the tokoloshe. This is where that godly sorrow leads to genuine repentance for sinning against the righteous God and there is a change of heart, we change our mind and God changes our hearts and regenerates us from the inside out.B. BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOUR SINS, WAS BURIED, AND THAT GOD RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD. Believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and that God raised Jesus from the dead. This is trusting with all of your heart that Jesus Christ is who he said he was.C. CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD. This is trusting with all of your heart that Jesus Christ is who he said he was. Every single person who ever lived since Adam will bend their knee and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings.

This week we're exploring some South African horror and delving into The Tokoloshe. In case you didn't pick up on the accent, one of us is in fact a Saffer. Buckle in heathens, this one is a ride. We explore some of the stories around this Zulu mythological creature and some of the more… uh… interesting stories involving tokoloshes. And, of course we're all about the horror behind the horror on this podcast, so what would an episode be without something true crimey? Learn from the best: The Tokoloshe Killer: True Crime South Africa | Elifasi Msomi | True Crime with Bella Monsoon From Executed Today The Tokoloshe: Mythology and Modern Trauma The little creature with a big appetite A collection of tokoloshe stories from the Daily Sun The Obscure Film Club: Pinky Pinky: This South African horror explores real-life social horrors through a modern take on the urban myth of the nefarious bathroom monster. Reimagined as a resurrected pedophile principal who died in a fire, it's essentially a South African version of Freddy Krueger. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark: While exploring the 19th century manor, Sally accidentally stumbles across a hidden basement, where the evil little creatures lie in wait. They lure Sally to her doom with promises of being friends, when in reality, they want to rip her apart. They're ancient demons that initially fed on children's teeth, until they wanted something more substantial. They are "tooth fairies" you hope you never see. Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman. Japanese folklore is full of malevolent spirts, but few are as harrowing as Kuchisake-onna, the "slit-mouthed woman." Kuchisake-onna joined Sadako, Kayako, and other onryo (vengeful ghosts) on movie screens in 2007's Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman. Here, she's the spirit of an abusive mother who possesses other women in order to continue preying on children after death. Cry of the Banshee: Featuring Vincent Price as an evil judge who is cursed by a witch to suffer at the hands of a briefly glimpsed, devil-like sidhe –- an umbrella term for the supernatural creatures that inhabit prehistoric burial mounds across Ireland. Since the banshee is a sidhe –- the Old Irish phrase for banshee is "bean sidhe," or "woman of the mounds" -– and the creature does scream, by default, it's a banshee

On this exploration we talk about the South African Tokoloshe. It's been described as a zombie created for mischief by a witch, a goblin type sprite, and even a sort of evil spirit. It's been blamed for deaths, murders, assaults, and of course, trickery. Is it just a catchall excuse or a real being looking for trouble? It's Jack of All Graves! A podcast where two very different folks from two different countries bond over our shared love of all things spooky, murdery, bloody, ghosty, and in any way horrific! In our first episode, get to know who we are, how we fell in love with the macabre, and what horror things get us all hot & bothered. Highlights: Mark alienates himself from his South African colleagues by telling them he saw a notorious demon Corrigan's older brothers abandon in her in a cemetery... repeatedly We question what the horror gateway drugs are for kids these days Corrigan explains American evangelicalism and the Satanic panic to Mark The podcast Corri references is Conviction: American Panic https://gimletmedia.com/shows/conviction We discuss the power of belief (and lack thereof) We close out by finding Mark absolutely buried the lede on that tokoloshe story Follow us on Twitter: @jackofallgraves
A fantastic horror film that comes out of South African folklore, the Tokoloshe is a monster that feeds on children and those left alone. When Busi comes to Johannesburg to find work, she didn't bargain on finding a supernatural beast as well. Great camerawork, superb performances and solid directing make this one super cool. Have you ever had a bad day after cutting someone off in traffic, or maybe you were late and didn’t hold the elevator, maybe you left a nasty comment, maybe you didn’t wear mask, and maybe you didn’t tip your delivery guy, and you think these things can’t be related, surely karma has bigger things to worry about. And you might be right, but after our story today you're going to wish your bad day might have just been karma, because if not….the Tokoloshe might have its jaws on your life.
On this episode of Creep Street, Dylan and Mo discuss the South African legend of the Tokoloshe! These hairy little bastards are mean as hell, and they LOVE eating toes! Citizens of the Milky Way, guard your tootsies and enjoy!

It's part goblin, part monster, part phantom and part delusion. It likes to eat children's toes. The tokoloshe is all those things and more - breadth that leads to intriguing mythology but confusing films. Also, what musician would you rather see star in a horror movie? On this episode, our special guest Jered Bradbury helps us review the supernatural slasher The Child Remains, the suspense thriller The Boat, the South African urban legend The Tokoloshe, and one of the best movies of 2019, The Lighthouse.
Don’t blame me, Nicole picked this one. It’s supposed to be South African folklore. Will it deliver? or will we get cliche, half-baked, non-sensical Silent Hill ripoff? Listen and find out! (It’s the second one. This movie sucks) Everyone can relax. Joey is once again steering this ship… and because he’s a predictable, weebo loser...
