Weird Darkness is narrated by professional full-time voice actor Darren Marlar. No A.I. voices are ever used in the show. IN THIS EPISODE: very part of the world seems to have its own share of cryptids – and sometimes, creatures that are unique to that area. For example, along with the ubiquitous Bigfoot, you might have heard about North Carolina's “Moon-Eyed People”, or “The Wampus Cat”. But I'm guessing you've not heard about what some call “The Vampire Beast” of Bladenboro. (The Beast of Bladenboro) *** The story of Isabella Guzman went viral on TikTok six years after she was convicted of the murder of her mother. During the trial she claimed she was abused… then she pleaded insanity. But one good thing did come from the trial… a serious discussion about mental illness. (Isabella Guzman: The Viral Teenage Killer) *** If you're a proponent of execution – no judgement here, just go with me – the only way to see that through is to have someone push the button, flip the switch, pull the trigger, or whatever method is being used in order to snuff out the life of the soon-to-be-dead inmate. Someone has to get their hands dirty, metaphorically speaking. And even if you think you'd have the stomach and determination to do the job – let me ask you this. Would you be okay with literally getting your hands bloody? Would you survive as a Medieval executioner, using an axe to chop off your victims heads? What would life be like with that job? (Life As a Medieval Executioner) *** We've all heard of cryptids like Bigfoot, Mothman, the Loch Ness Monster, the Jersey Devil, the Dogman, and so on. But have you ever heard of a cryptid that isn't flesh and blood, but were made of plants? In the latest episode, Rebekah delves into the eerie realms of cryptids lurking in the depths of the Appalachian mountains and Lindsey explores the ghostly occurrences haunting the historic Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. The episode begins with spine-chilling tales of encounters with cryptids, creatures whose existence is often debated but whose presence is felt by many in the remote regions of the Appalachians. Rebekah shares stories of encountering strange, elusive beings such as the Mothman, the Wampus Cat, and the elusive Sasquatch. These accounts, often dismissed as folklore, come alive through eyewitness testimonies, leaving listeners pondering the mysteries hidden within the dense forests of the Appalachians. Transitioning to the Stanley Hotel, Lindsey guides listeners through the haunted corridors of this iconic establishment, famously known as the inspiration for Stephen King's novel, "The Shining." With a rich history dating back to 1909, the Stanley Hotel has garnered a reputation as one of the most haunted places in America. Lindsey recounts chilling accounts of ghostly apparitions, mysterious footsteps echoing in empty hallways, and inexplicable occurrences reported by both guests and staff alike. Whether it be the cryptids lurking in the shadows of the Appalachians or the ghostly presences haunting the halls of the Stanley Hotel, these mysteries serve as a reminder of the unknown wonders that await exploration in the realm of the supernatural. Hello! This week we're doing some legends from the Appalachians. First up we have Nate with the Wampus Cat, and two different legends and depictions of the cat. The Wampus can is well known for his two front pugilist arms and his extreme talents in the fine art of fisticuffs.... or not at all, we shall see! Following the Wampus Cat I talk about the Moon-Eyed people, there's not much information to go on about the people themselves but a bit more about the history and credibility of the legend. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/arcanumobscura/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/arcanumobscura/support

CreepGeeks Paranormal and Weird News Podcast on Apple Things I thought we knew as fact already: More Evidence Shows Vikings Were In America Long Before Columbus | IFLScience Columbus made it popular. Wampus Cat The wampus cat is a cryptid or legendary creature, that is said to inhabit the forests of North Carolina. It is typically described as a large, cat-like creature with sharp teeth and claws. Some people believe that the Wampus cat is a descendant of the Eastern cougar, which went extinct in the early 1900s. Others believe that it is a completely different species of animal. There have been many reports of wampus cat sightings over the years. In 1920, a farmer in the Yadkin Valley claimed to have shot a wampus cat that was attacking his livestock. The creature was described as being about the size of a bear with a long, shaggy coat. In 1935, a group of hunters in the Uwharrie Mountains claimed to have seen a wampus cat that was about the size of a panther. While there is no scientific evidence to support the existence of the wampus cat, many people in North Carolina continue to believe in the creature. The wampus cat has become a part of the state's folklore and is often featured in stories and legends. Here are some additional details about the wampus cat: It is said to be about the size of a bear or panther. It has sharp teeth and claws. It is covered in a long, shaggy coat. It is said to be a nocturnal creature. It is said to be very aggressive and dangerous. Here are some of the places in North America where people have reported seeing wampus cats: North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, Washington, Oregon, California https://www.google.com/search?q=The%20Wampus%20cat%20in%20Marion%20NC#ip=1 NEWS: NC tourist town rocked by violence in wake of defund police movement rolls out plan to combat rise in crime | Fox News 25 Gifts For Fans Of The Paranormal That They Actually Need Watch: Researchers teach parrots to make video calls - UPI.com Previous Story Update- https://thehauntedlibrarian.com/2023/04/25/ghost-hunts-usa-shutters/ AD- Want to Start your own podcast? https://signup.libsyn.com/?promo_code=CREEP Looking for something unique and spooky? For our seventh episode in our Cryptids season, we're going to talk about feline cryptids! This is the category for all feline or cat based cryptids. Cats are well-represented in cryptozoology and cryptid cats have been the sole subject of a variety of cryptozoological works. Mystery cats fall into various categories with different possible explanations, including alien big cats, undocumented hybrids and colour morphs, emergent species, possible undescribed species, and theoretical survivals of prehistoric cats. They may also be classified as distinct types, such as spotted lions, dark leopards, or speckled jaguars. (Hint: At least you have nine lives.) We sit down the very funny comedian Julia Desmond to discuss famed cat cryptid The Wampus Cat! In Cherokee legends, the Wampus Cat is the embodiment of a female onlooker cursed by tribal elders, as punishment for hiding beneath the pelt of a wild cat to witness a sacred ceremony. During the 1920–30s, newspapers reported of a "Wampus" cat killing livestock in North Carolina to Georgia. We also discuss The Beast of Bladenboro, a creature responsible for a string of animal deaths in the winter of 1953–54, in North Carolina. Could they be the same creature?
