Welcome back to another episode of the Connected Leadership Podcast. Today's episode is a little special. We're part of Podcaston, an awesome initiative where over 1,600 podcasters come together to support incredible causes. For me, this hits close to home because I've had the privilege of working with one of those causes—The Fiorentini Foundation—as both a trustee and currently as an ambassador. Joining me is Anna Fiorentini, the founder of the Anna Fiorentini Film and Theatre School and its charitable arm, The Fiorentini Foundation. Anna started her school 24 years ago in inner-city London to give kids aged 4–18 access to drama, singing, dance, and film training. And here's the kicker—no child gets turned away because of money issues. They make it work through profits from adult classes (Stage in the City) and corporate team-building events like creating a musical in an afternoon (how cool is that?). Anna's mission goes beyond just teaching performing arts. It's about building confidence, creativity, and lifelong skills for young people who might not otherwise have these opportunities. Whether they grow up to perform on the West End or use their newfound leadership skills elsewhere, every student benefits. You'll hear some amazing success stories, too—kids landing roles in The Bodyguard or TV shows like EastEnders, and others excelling in careers far removed from the stage. So how can YOU get involved? Well, whether it's donating, brainstorming fundraising ideas, volunteering, or even organising workplace events, there are plenty of ways to help. Check out afperformingarts.com or thefiorentinifoundation.org for more info. Thanks so much for tuning in! Don't forget to share this episode if you found it inspiring—and join us again next week for another great conversation on the Connected Leadership Podcast. Show notes are available at QueenofPeaches.com. For this first episode of 2024, I'm really excited to share my conversation with Hollywood costume supervisor Sara Walbridge. Sara is a graduate of The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago and has been steadily working in Hollywood for over 20 years. Some of her best known TV projects include Love and Death, Barry, GLOW, and True Blood, and her film credits include Don't Look Up, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Vice, and Beautiful Boy. In our chat today, she gives me the lowdown on how costume supervising is like solving a puzzle; how the immediate aftermath of 9/11 inadvertently shaped the trajectory of her career; why if you don't notice the costumes in a movie or TV show, that actually means they've been executed really well; what the most pressing concerns about AI are for costume departments; the kinds of questions that get tossed around in the group chat of the so-called Costume Mafia; why working as a costume supervisor is secretly kind of a blue-collar job; and why she nerds out about making scale maps of changing tents for huge groups of extras. Plus, since we're well into awards season now, Sara highlights some of her favorite costuming moments from the year gone by that she hopes will be recognized by voters. For my Letterboxd users out there, I've created a list featuring all the films we talk about in this episode. Links to that and other show notes will be available on my blog QueenofPeaches.com.

I'm on the last day of a five-day, 12-hour daily intensive Improv class at The Annoyance Theatre. Our instructor comes in and has us count off by threes. Once that's done, he instructs us to find everyone else with the same number. Then he tells us: “Whoever's in your group, you all are now an Improv team. And you're going to perform tonight live on the main stage for a public audience.” I'm thinking, “These teams are made up of people I barely know.” They come from all around the world with different backgrounds, styles, strengths, and varying levels of Improv experience. And that's when I realize that's what's so cool about this whole thing! We can bring all that to the table in our performance. My made-up-on-the-spot team and I spend the rest of the day creating, refining, rehearsing, and doing it over again, based on our collective suggestions and ideas as a collective. That night, when we hit the stage and show our stuff, it's a huge success. And I know a big part of it is due to the collective diversity of the group and the openness to learning from each other as well as respecting and honoring everyone's contribution. Speaking of spotlights and collectives, today's special guest, Lindsay Ravage, is a veteran of the Improv community in addition to working as an actress. And in this episode of the Storytelling School Podcast, she's here to dive into how the world of Improv can influence you as a storyteller and answer questions such as: Why are you already an experienced Improv storyteller, even if you've never performed it on a stage? How does having trust in others influence the ability to create a bigger story? Why is it so important for kids at a young age to learn how to express themselves and be creative in telling stories? And how do shared experiences make for powerful storytelling? What you will learn in this episode: Why saying “yes” opens the door for new stories to occur How an audience's response to your narrative can affect your storytelling in real-time Why having a first-person point of view makes your story more interesting Who is Lindsay? Growing up just outside of New York City, Lindsay Ravage fell in love with the stage at a young age. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern California's Theatre School and studied at the esteemed British Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. She is also a graduate of The Second City Conservatory program and UCB Improv program and has performed Improv all over Los Angeles in various Improvisation and sketch troupes. In addition to still acting in commercials and television, she has worked as a casting associate for some of the most successful commercial casting offices in Los Angeles. Lindsay has also worked with children most of her adult life. But she felt there was a lack of theatre classes in the L.A. area for her own kids. Wanting to create a fun and creative outlet for non-professional kids, she started Tiny Spotlight--Los Angeles' premiere children's theater academy that offers musical theater, Improv, and sketch comedy classes to kids aged 3-11. These classes are taught by top-notch directors in a real theatre setting. They're designed as fun-filled performance experiences to build confidence and let kids know that their ideas are important and what they have to say matters. Tiny Spotlight classes are held at the charming Two Roads Theater in Little Tujunga Village in the heart of Studio City, California, and at The Pico Theatre in West LA. In this episode of TishTalk, I speak with former MPP Randy Hillier (www.nomorelockdowns.ca) who was the first MPP to speak out in 2020 about the harm being done by government during Covid. Randy gives a shocking testimonial of how little any of the Mainstream parties actually do and the extent of political theatre that goes on to give the illusion of a democratic country. We discuss the truly disturbing sexualization of our children and the cult of child grooming for pedophilia and to induce trauma that has been going on for many many decades and is not covered by any media. We review the NATO war against Russia in Ukraine and end with a discussion about the bi-election in Manitoba for Max Bernier and the importance of voting for PPC to start the process of reform in Canada.

Jul 19, 2020 On this episode of The Claw's Corner - Host Rich Cyr chats with actor P.J. Baker. P.J.'s Bio from IMDB: P.J. Byrne A graduate of Boston College with a double major in finance and theatre and an M.F.A. in Acting from the prestigious Theatre School at DePaul University, actor P.J. Byrne stars alongside Dwayne Johnson to save the world from global catastrophe in the action film Rampage loosely based on the video game of the same name. He can also be seen in 15:17 Train to Paris which marks the second time Byrne has worked with Oscar Award winning director Clint Eastwood. Byrne's latest movie is Green Book for director and writer Peter Farrelly. Green Book tells the story of a working-class Italian-American bouncer who becomes the driver for an African-American classical pianist on a tour of venues through the 1960s American South and stars Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali. In 2014, Byrne starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street for director Martin Scorsese and proceed to team up again with the famed director in 2016 on Vinyl for HBO. Renowned for his pivotal scene-stealing role in Horrible Bosses, Byrne's character supports the stars of the film as they plot to kill their bosses. This film allows him to add Jason Bateman to a long list of important actors with whom he has had the opportunity to work. He has played opposite: Steve Carell in Dinner for Schmucks, Zach Galifianakis in The Campaign, Harrison Ford in Extraordinary Measures, Tom Hanks in Mike Nichols' Charlie Wilson's War, Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman in Nora Ephron's Bewitched, Jack Black in Michel Gondry's Be Kind, Rewind, Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty and Clint Eastwood in Bloodwork. Byrne was very well received for his starring role in the 5th installment of the phenomenally successful Final Destination franchise for Warner Bros. In the film Byrne's character meets one of the more unusual demises ever in the series of sci-fi horror films. Byrne's television credits include the fan favorite role of Irv Smiff, the driven sports agent, who represents a number of professional football players in the ongoing BET hit series The Game. Byrne is also adding writer to his resume having recently sold Brothers of the Bride to Newline, a feature film that he will co-write and star in which is being produced by Ben Stiller's Red Hour Productions. In addition to his on-screen roles, Byrne also voices "Bolin" in the Emmy- nominated Nickelodeon series, The Legend of Korra now entering its third season, and received a Behind The Voice Award for his portrayal of that character. He is currently the voice of Firestorm in new Cartoon Network hit Justice League Action. A Garden State native, Byrne was born in Maplewood, New Jersey and was raised in Old Tappan, New Jersey. - IMDb Mini Biography By: Guttman Associates Watch The Last Supper on Funny Or Die - https://funnyordie.com/2012/4/5/17714184/the-last-supper P.J.'s IMDB - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0126260/ P.J.'s Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057888737090 Don't miss Daniel Roebuck's appearance on The Claw's Corner! - • The Claw's Corner... You may have never heard the name Fr. Clarence Rivers before today. Fr. Rivers was a renown composer and liturgist, among other things, and he was helping people better understand—better see themselves—in the liturgy long before the Second Vatican Council made such actions the norm. Fr. Rivers was also the first Black priest ordained in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, and his own heritage and lived experience greatly informed his approach to the liturgy and to his own priestly ministry. But Fr. Rivers is slowly being lost to the relentless march of time. His legacy is interwoven in so much of how we understand Catholic liturgy today, and yet his name is far from our lips. Fortunately, our guests today—Emily Strand and Eric Styles—host their own podcast, and it's called Meet Father Rivers. Emily has taught religion at the collegiate level for more than 15 years, and currently does so at Mt. Carmel College in Ohio. She is the author of two books on Catholicism and has published several essays on religious and literary themes in popular culture in peer-reviewed publications. Emily is also a life-long Church musician, serving her parish as a cantor, accompanist and ensemble director, and serving the National Association of Pastoral Musicians as Chair of the Forum on Communication. Eric Styles has served as the Rector of Carroll Hall, an intentional undergraduate residential community at the University of Notre Dame, since 2016. He holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati and Loyola University Chicago. Eric worked as a Parish Liturgy Coordinator at Saint Benedict the African Catholic Church in Chicago and as a House Manager for the Theatre School of DePaul University. He spent time discerning the call to religious life with the Society of Jesus, though eventually discovered that was not where God was inviting him to be. Eric remains active in the performing arts as a collaborator with Afro House, a Baltimore based music driven performance art ensemble. Eric writes about theology, liturgy, and contemporary culture. Both of our guests are passionate about the liturgy, deeply inspired by the legacy of Fr. Rivers and determined to help form the imagination of people of faith today. Need some confidence getting an acro program started at your studio? In this interview, studio owner and Acrobatic Arts Master Teacher Cheryl Crawford discusses her own highs and lows on the journey of starting an acro program. Cheryl explains what tools and resources helped her not only get started, but grow a reputable and successful program that has grown to over 400 students today! About Cheryl Crawford Started dancing at the age of 5 taking ballet & tap lessons at the local Town Hall, by the age of 10 years I loved everything about dance. Trained for 3 years at the Theatre School of dance & drama, Edinburgh where I studied RAD Ballet, I.S.T.D Tap & Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, singing & Acting. I loved every minute of it and graduated with my RAD Registered teacher status in 1999. Although I loved performing my biggest passion was teaching so in 2001 I set up my own school, 8 months after having my first child, needless to say, my hands were full! 16 years (and another child later) later I now have my own Dance Studio where we offer Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Cheer, Contemporary and my new favourite Acrobatic Arts. I am one of the lucky ones that can say I enjoy going to work! I am honoured to be part of the Acrobatic Arts Staff and look forward to growing with the company. Addicted To Recovery : The Interactive Memoir Episode 4: What does it really mean to drink alone as opposed to with other people? Drinking with others was still, essentially, how I was trying to manage my own mind, not other people's. For me, it was an indication that the relationship I had with my mind had become more strained than the most forced social situations. I figured alcohol could force us to get along the same way it had with various frenemies over the years. It had the opposite effect of completely alienating me from any sense of synergy with my thoughts. In chapter 4 we wrap up the Theatre School arc, in which denial, misdirection and medication cause me to improve my acting skills unintentionally, though it seems the only one convinced by my performance was me. Sure, things were getting a bit freaky, but me, an alcoholic? Naw. THAT'S really dramatic. Please send questions, comments or just say ‘hi' atinteractivememoir@gmail.comorhttps://twitter.com/ToMemoirorhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/156764336366378If you like what I'm doing and find it useful or entertaining, recommend it to a friend, subscribe, rate it, share it, or all of the above! Her recent work includes Steve McQueen's feature Widows, Showtime's Work in Progress and Emmy-nominated series, Shameless, CBS's The Red Line, Comedy Central's South Side, and HBO's series from JJ Abrams' and Jordan Peele: Lovecraft Country. You can also see her work in the first season of Amazon's Patriot, Adult Swim's Joe Pera Talks With You, and NBC's Shrink. After graduating with a BFA in Theatre Arts from The Theatre School at DePaul University in 2011, she joined Paskal Rudnicke Casting as a Casting Assistant in 2013. Her love for actors, improvisation, and alternative story structure and style guide her casting choices and distinctive taste. Though theatre is her first love, film has captured her heart.
