In today's episode Debbie engages in an inspiring conversation with Tracey Jones, who helped to heal herself from chronic illness through a journey of well-being and self-discovery. Tracey, who is now an artist, suddenly developed fibromyalgia, suffering from horrendous pain and fatigue. Consequently, this meant that Tracey's career as a primary school teacher had to come to an end and she embarked on a period of deep retrospection. Tracey experienced a range of different therapies such as reiki, reflexology, sound therapy and meditation, as well as making changes to her diet, in order to facilitate her recovery. Tracey is now an artist who works with individuals to re-discover their creativity and freedom of expression; encouraging others to be mindful of their needs promoting the importance of self-care. KEY TAKEAWAYS That finding time for yourself to rest and create is essential for well-being.Through finding support from like-minded individuals, it can help you make progress and move forwards.Even through experiencing horrible situations, if we reflect on those experiences, they can give a sense that things were meant to happen to get us on our paths and be better for the people around us, as well as ourselves. This allows us to be in more in alignment with our true values and who we really are. That as we grow up society teaches order and busyness instead of freedom and creativity. Therefore, it is important to take time to re-discover that expression as an adult. That artistic expression can be very calming and is a journey of creation to be enjoyed. BEST MOMENTS "I know medication's got its place for some people, absolutely fine, but not for me because I felt it was a sticking plaster approach.”"I really wanted to strip it back and think, Why has this happened? What is it? And what can I do about it naturally?""I always say hard as the fibro was, I'm glad it happened because if it didn't, I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing now.”"The space to learn and to heal and to grow, and by enjoying that process, it's very, very transformative. And it does open people up, doesn't it? To different ways of thinking and creativity and freedom of expression, which I think are so important for health and well-being.”"That's kind of what the art journaling for me is about, it's getting people to re-engage with art, because so many people haven't since they were at school, and I just think they're missing out massively..." HOST BIODebbie is a seasoned therapist whose journey from being a primary school teacher to an adept therapist has been fuelled by her fascination with the intricacies of human nature. Equipped with advanced certifications in diverse modalities like hypnotherapy, neuro-linguistic programming, mindfulness, meditation, past life regression and many more she has honed her expertise to bring about transformative change. As a full-time therapist and trainer, Debbie's driving passion is guiding others, as well as herself, towards their best selves. I'm excited to bring you this conversation with Dr. Tracey Jones, who is the President of Tremendous Leadership. She's an author, speaker, veteran, international leadership expert, publisher, and host of the Tremendous Leadership podcast. Tracey is a passionate lifelong learner and her career spans top positions in four major industries, from the military to high tech, to defense contracting, and publishing. She is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, a decorated veteran who served in the First Gulf War and Bosnian War, earned an MBA in Global Management, and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies. If you haven't yet been introduced to Tracey, you might have heard of her father, Charlie “Tremendous” Jones, who wrote the very well-known book Life is Tremendous. For years, I have used her father's famous quote in many lessons and talks I've given. He said, “You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for two things; the people you meet and the books you read.” It was a real blessing to be able to talk to his daughter, who now leads their company. This conversation focused on books and the impact they can have on our lives. Tracey gives us some insights into their publishing company, Tremendous Leadership, her process for writing books, and some of her daily habits for writing. You can connect with Tracey on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or her website. Also be sure to check out her excellent podcast, Tremendous Leadership. *** Need a ghostwriter for your next project? What You'll Learn From This Episode:How to remove self-doubt, start being honest with yourself, and finding your 'singularity'Define your 'real' and 'ideal' goalsHow to be the 'dandelion' and not the 'orchid'Related Links and Resources:One, I've got a series of FREE webinars you can download. On the website they will see the banners, all three resources, at www.tremendousleadership.com Summary:Dr. Tracey Jones brings a unique approach to motivation including a call to action and tools to make it happen. Tracy is an author, speaker, Air Force Academy graduate, decorated Veteran, international leadership expert, scholar, and researcher. President of Tremendous Leadership, carrying on the legacy of her father Charlie "Tremendous" Jones, Tracey has released 10 books including her newest title available now, SPARK: 5 Essentials to Ignite the Greatness Within. Here are the highlights of this episode:1:49 Tracey's ideal Client: My ideal client is really anybody; individuals or organizations out there who are saying to themselves 'the status quo has got to go." I don't care if you're 2 or 200. I was on a call with people last night and they're 70. So, anybody that really wants to raise the bar on life, maybe they're feeling a little bit stuck like they're in the next season and they want the clarity and the tools to get to the next level of what they know, but there's something else for them to do.2:27 Problem Tracey helps solve: Well, I think most people, it kind of goes a different way. There's some that have the problem of self-doubt, where you just don't have the self-efficacy or the belief in yourself. You know it's there but you're not sure how to get there. Number two, there are some people that are really difficult to be honest 'with ourselves'. So, I really help people to get in there and say "listen, only you who's going to unpack this" and so, from my 'tool sergeant' taste, I'm like really with tough love, and getting people to be honest with themselves. And then lastly, deconstructing all the noise; a lot of the problem with people's failure to achieve greatness is they were too busy being pulled into too many different directions. So, I help them target their singularity. And Jim Collins' book 'Good to Great', what's that thing you do better than anybody else.3:28 Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Tracey: Well I am a doctor, so I will diagnose this; negative thoughts, you're sad you're depressed, you're in a rot, you're tired, your physically sick, you dread Monday mornings, that's a big signal. Your failure to focus, quitting too soon, I would like to say to people I'm 'slacktose intolerant'. There are so many things you want to do but you just can't get there. And you may have lack of support or resources, so you're terribly frustrated because you want to do something but you just can't connect the dots.4:17 What are some of the common mistakes that folks make before finding Tracey and her solution: The biggest mistake is, I say to people "one year from now if you haven't change, what's going to happen?" and they say "there's no way" but we lose track if we don't take action. That failure to gain singularity, and that failure to gain being focused and direct of what you're supposed to do, that's really a common mistake. And that will manifest in lots of health, perhaps loss of family, loss of resources. We only have so many minutes on this planet and we need to make the best in all of them.4:59 Tracey's Valuable Free Action (VFA): Draw two circles; one to the left one to the right. Write 'real' and 'ideal', this is where you are, this is where you want to be. Not what you're doing right now, but what you like to do. And then begin to look at what you're going to bring forward from the real to the ideal and what you're going to leave behind. This will give you a really good orientation.
Rod sits down with Tremendous Tracey Jones. Author of eight books and counting, Dr. Tracey C. Jones is a motivational speaker, business leadership resource, and president of Tremendous Leadership - a company that offers you the very best books, resources and programs to cultivate your professional and personal development. Tracy's story is really the beginning of a beautiful love story. Her Father and mentor, motivational speaker Charlie “Tremendous” Jones, always talked about how he hit the trifecta when he met her mother, got involved in the insurance industry and found Christ. His love for his family and his work provided Tracy with a lifelong example of great leadership which she strives to uphold to this day. Tracy describes her childhood as a cross between bootcamp and a sitcom. Her father was an incredibly driven individual with a great sense of humor. For him, everything had a purpose and more than that, it had to be fun! She grew up believing work was a vacation because if you love what you do your work is a joy. She recalls that her vacations often consisted of packing up in an RV and going around to speaking engagements for her father. If they weren't on the road traveling to speaking engagements, there were many other things to do such as get a job, work in the yard or play. Watching TV was not an option because they were locked up in the attic! Tracy grew up listening to other great mentors as well. Zig Zigler, Ted Blanchard and Norman Vincent Peale all influenced her and so many others in her industry because they bring value to the table and their stories are triumphant. Listening to these stories and those of her father taught her life was never easy. Tracy's father taught self-efficacy, resilience, tenacity, and adaptive capacity. He encouraged her to “go out and earn [her] stripes” and often reminded her that “Life is great, but it is what you make of it” and “It doesn't matter what life throws at you it is how you respond to it”. With these ideals in mind Tracey decided she wanted to serve her country. She went into the Airforce academy and graduated as a Lieutenant who then got trained to work on fighter jets- F15 & 16s. After the military Tracey moved to Austin, Texas to work in the high tech field. She worked for a Fortune 100 company with a great leadership but after a couple of years, she realized that everything is the same. Even though she was out of the bureaucracy of the government, so many of the same people, problems, and processes hadn't changed. She was looking for something more. Tracey moved to St Louis to work in defense contracting. She was excited to blend her Fortune 100 edge with her love for the military. Two years into it, the same issues arose. She knew she needed to make a change and do something that was going to make a difference. Tracey always knew there was something more for her. Growing up around entrepreneurs she knew that someday she would love to do her own thing. Her father always told her you have two choices: work for yourself or work for someone else. As long as you work for someone else there will always be the bureaucratic side to things. It wasn't until her father's failing health that she told him she was going to come back and run the family business. After the break Rod and Tracey discuss how you sell yourself and business. Hint: Repeat business and ask for referrals! Rod and Tracey close out the show with a bonus section talking about her new book - Igniting the greatness within - SPARK. Singularity Persistence Advocate Resource Knowledge. Don't miss it!
