Throughout the early 1970s, California's Bay Area was in the grip of terror as multiple serial killers operated at the time same time and in more or less the same space. In time, some of these killers, like Ed Kemper, would be caught, while others, like the Zodiac Killer, would remain unidentified. Yet it was the ones who appeared to kill at random, without any preferred victim, that would prove the most terrifying and most difficult to catch. Herbert Mullin was one such killer, and while he may have been active for a very short period, he managed to do a tremendous amount of damage in such a little amount of time.Over a five-month period in late 1972 and early 1973, Herbert Mullin killed thirteen people, including a college girl, a Catholic priest, and a former high school friend and that friend's neighbors. To investigators, Mullin's victims appeared to be—and indeed largely were—chosen at random and the weapons used were chosen more out of convenience than pathology. Had Mullin's final murder not been committed in full view of witnesses, there's a very good chance he would have gone on to kill many more people before being caught, if he ever was.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1972. Wilding Cider, founded by Sam and Beccy Leach in 2019, uses Regenerative farming practices and a “rural method” to cider making. Based in Somerset the culinary skills of Sam blend with Beccy's Sommelier palate. Their dedication to traditional orchards and natural fermentations has led to the creation of their standout orchard based ciders and perrys. This process sets Wilding apart, showcasing a commitment to purity, sustainability, and the land. Beccy and Same Leach The Orchard at Wilding Size & Scope: 7.5 acres at the home orchard and additional rented orchards. Varieties: Kingston Black, Stoke Red, Porter's Perfection, and so many more. Regenerative Practices Sam in the home orchard The orchards provide the perfect environment for Wilding's cider-making, ensuring low-intervention fermentations that align with the Rural Method philosophy. What is the Rural Method of Cider Making Sam credits Skyborry cider in Wales for coining the phrase “rural Method”. He explains in this chat that at Wilding Cider Rural Method is an energy-efficient, traditional approach to crafting naturally sweet ciders. It utilizes: Cold Winter Fermentations: Utilizing natural temperatures to slow fermentation. Low Nitrogen Content: Achieved by using unfertilized orchards for balanced fermentations. Minimal Intervention: Avoiding filtration, sulfites, or pasteurization. This method produces clean, complex ciders that capture the essence of Somerset orchards. Signature Wilding Ciders and Perry Wilding Cider showcases the Rural Method through their unique blends and single varietals: Symphony: A bittersweet blend. Comics: Multi-orchard cider built on Browns and Yarlington. Single Varietals: Stoke Red and Kingston Black. Perry Cider: Carefully macerated to achieve depth and balance. These ciders are celebrated for their balance of tannins, acidity, and natural sweetness, hallmarks of the Rural Method. Stefanie speaks with consultant dermatologist Dr Isabelle Haugh about if we are showering too much, or if we should be showering more. What are the implications?

Wayne Rooney, John Terry, Ryan Giggs and Kyle Walker. What do they all have in common? Apart from being millionaire footballers who've scored big for club and country, they've all played away from home in their respective relationships. Walker, the Manchester City defender, has had major success on the pitch for his club but has been a steadier fixture on the gossip pages rather than sporting ones of late. This week he made a tearful public apology after fathering a second child with reality TV star Lauryn Goodman, behind his wife's back. Today on the Indo Daily Fionnán Sheehan is joined by Gemma Abbott, contributor to the UK Independent, and by Daniel McDonnell, football correspondent for the Irish Independent, to ask why do we treat Kyle Walker and other "bad boy" footballers like gods when, as Gemma says it, they're just "inadequate men"? VOICES ON ART - The VAN HORN Gallery Podcast, hosted by Daniela Steinfeld
On the occasion of this years‘ Independent Art fair in New York City I'm speaking to Jonny Tanna and Linda Mognato. Jonny is a creative director at Harlesden High Street in London, which is a BIPOC experimental space that has an art programme as well as a public one and challenges questions of gender, race, wealth, class and generation. Linda is an art researcher and curator who is Gallery manager at Harlesden High Street and an integral part of the team. Jonny and Linda speak each about their background in the UK resp. Italy, the different phases in their lives being an artist/film maker and an art researcher/curator, how they met and what is special and unique about Harlesden High Street. The pair discusses the important issue of class and it's correlation to having access to arts and culture experiences. They cherish diversity and open their doors for all kinds of different people, so they chose an unusual location to house the gallery/project space in London. They talk about the need of letting go of one‘s ego and encourage others to shine within the art world. For Jonny and Linda galleries should be givers and enable the diverse talents and experiences of artists audiences. Quote: „Harlesden High Street was founded with the mission of facilitating access between experimental/outsider artists and the traditional gallery system. We host several spaces across London exhibiting contemporary art by local and international artists, centering work by people of colour. In addition to our exhibition venues, we host a cultural outreach programme with an aim to reach audiences in ungentrified neighborhoods who might be less likely to engage with typical gallery programming. Our main space in Harlesden proudly only hosts people of colour in our programme, external and offsite spaces hosts an experimental programme transcending borders.“ This Episode is produced in cooperation with Independent Art Fair, New York City and will be part of the fairs OVR for it's upcoming 2023 edition. 42 min., recorded February 21, 2023. The UK Independent reports: Balenciaga has faced major backlash after a recent ad campaign featuring children posing with teddy bears dressed in bondage gear was condemned by celebrities and the fashion industry alike. The luxury label has since issued an apology for two photoshoots – one of which showed an image of a Supreme Court opinion on a child pornography case – as frequent collaborators like Kim Kardashian have announced they are assessing their future relationship with Balenciaga. “We sincerely apologise for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused,” Balenciaga said in a statement. “Our plush bear bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign. We have immediately removed the campaign from all platforms.” The company also apologised for displaying “unsettling documents” in a separate campaign, writing: “We take this matter very seriously and are taking legal action against the parties responsible for creating the set and including unapproved items for our Spring ‘23 campaign photoshoot.” Get exclusive content here!: https://thepetekalinershow.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Following his previous book ‘Lockdown Wales', Will Hayward (Welsh Affairs Editor, WalesOnline) has taken on the challenge of writing about one of the most contested and salient topics that came to the fore just before and during the Covid pandemic - Welsh independence. Long considered a minority interest commanding only 10-15% support, with even only ⅔ of Plaid Cymru supporters showing support for independence, the topic burst onto wider public discussion after a series of well attended rallies across Wales in 2019. Combined with an increasingly fractious relationship between a unionist Welsh Government and a UK Government intent on re-centralising power post-Brexit, support for Welsh independence gained a surprising amount of support from within the ranks of Welsh Labour and became the official policy of the Green Party. But as with all constitutional questions, for each strongly held opinion, there are a whole raft of complicated, unsexy questions that rarely get the scrutiny or depth of discussion that they deserve. In his book, Will asks the difficult questions of those on all sides of the argument while carefully laying out the facts and the quandaries of those people whose opinions are not so entrenched. You can buy the book here: https://www.bitebackpublishing.com/books/independent-nation And find Will on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/WillHayCardiff For all the latest from Hiraeth, follow us on the socials @HiraethPod and if you're enjoying the podcast, please leave us a rating or review on your podcast app of choice.
