In this episode, Vanessa Feltz wows Gyles with some of the funniest stories he's ever heard on Rosebud: from a first kiss with Pete Tong by the pool in Lanzarote, to an illicit encounter with a stranger who was bowled over by the magnificence of her bosom... this show is full of laughs and brilliant anecdotes. Vanessa takes Gyles two generations back in the Feltz family, to her grandparents and great grandparents in the tenements of the East End, and brings these extraordinary characters to life. She tells Gyles about her own childhood in the 'Beverley Hills of North London', and about her school days, when she was known as 'Vanessa the Undresser', and could do alluring things with a red woollen scarf. She talks to Gyles about her career and why it's important to teach your grandchildren how to make a human chain. Vanessa's autobiography, 'Vanessa Bares All' is out now. It's hugely entertaining, and well worth reading. Thanks so much to Vanessa for this brilliant interview, and for making Gyles laugh so much. Learn more about your ad choices. My guest today is the broadcaster Vanessa Feltz. Ever since the mid-90s, Vanessa has been a fixture on British TV and radio - and also, for better or worse, our front pages. She became known as the “British Oprah” and that applied not just to her consummate skills as a broadcaster and talent for saying the unsayable, but also what she describes as her “pernicious public cycle of yoyo dieting.” She cut her teeth on This Morning, interviewed stars on the Big Breakfast Bed and hosted her own hit show Vanessa, the first British US-style talk show. She's also presented BBC Radio 2's Early Breakfast Show and BBC London's Breakfast show and now hosts a Saturday show on LBC. But like many women in the public eye, her professional achievements have often played second fiddle to media scrutiny of her private life. Vanessa joined me to talk about finally baring it all in the frank, funny, fearless autobiography she said she'd never write, Vanessa Bares All. We also discussed growing up with a chorus of critics and dealing with the toxic media attention paid to her weight. Plus divorce, being back in the dating game at 62, why she wishes she'd been able to take Ozempic, finally losing her inhibitions and why she'd really like a great big love. * You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org, including Vanessa Bares All by Vanessa Feltz and the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me. * If you enjoyed this episode and you fancy buying me a coffee, pop over to my page on buymeacoffee.com. • And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com • The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Juliette Nicholls @ Pineapple Audio Production. The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) should get “off the picket line and round the negotiating table” as passengers face fresh disruption from strikes, Transport Secretary Mark Harper has said. Around half of Britain's railway lines are closed and only a fifth of services are running as tens of thousands of workers at Network Rail and train operators stage two 48-hour walkouts starting on Tuesday and Friday. Many places have no services, including most of Scotland and Wales. Drivers in the Aslef union will strike on Thursday. Picket lines have been mounted outside railway stations across the country in a repeat of what became a familiar sight last year. Mr Harper told Times Radio: “There is a very fair pay offer on the table which has been accepted by two of the trade unions on Network Rail. “The RMT recommended that their members didn't accept it, but actually a third of their members still voted in favour of it. “I think it is time that the RMT got off the picket line and round the negotiating table to try and hammer out a deal with the train operating companies and Network Rail.” Eddie Dempsey, Assistant General Secretary of the RMT union, says strike action is "not just about the money", after some members have reportedly lost "somewhere in the region of more than two weeks take home pay." #talktv #talkradio --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talktv/support

We had the Mercury nominated (!!!) Self Esteem, Rebecca Lucy Taylor join us in Birmingham and finished with Julian Clary & Vanessa Feltz in London - fabulous guests, fabulous audiences. In this final instalment of Table Manners live, we round up the series with some more of our favourite audience questions from Birmingham & London.Dr Alex makes an appearance & Rebecca roams the audience a la Debbie McGee!Influencer mum gets asked about her go to lipstick shade & I talk about hangover cures. It's all in there. Enjoy! x See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The live show finale.. our second night from the London Palladium with the one and only Vanessa Feltz. Now seasoned West End pros, we put our feet up and let our guest do most of the talking. And frankly, I was completely grateful. If mum's red lip and leopard print are going to be upstaged by anyone, let it be Ms Feltz; rockin up in a sequin ball gown, along with a tower of Challah made by her daughter. This powerhouse talks to us about growing up in Totteridge and how her life revolved around food. We discuss her grandma's chopped liver, the truth about custard, garage brunches & we even discuss whether semen is… ahem….Kosher? Thank you everyone that came to our first live tour, it was so, so wonderful to meet so many of you, offer out vats of mum's chicken soup and laugh ever so much. We had such a great time, mum even got tour blues on the Tuesday. We'll be back next week with some uncensored audio from our live Q&As
