Every now and then we meet with a guest who blows us away by the scale and worthiness of their vision. And there's no doubting this week's guest is one of those. Lee Yearsley is an AI veteran and entrepreneur with a unique track record that speaks to her skill of anticipating the future. Raised in Zimbabwe and South Africa, Lee sold her last AI company 10 years ago to IBM. It was the first company in the world to deploy AI in businesses such as banks, insurance companies and health care. And now Lee's at it again channelling her philosophy of building a global AI company that the world will need, not today, but in 5 years time. Her vision is big; she wants to reach more than 100 million customers worldwide. Lee's business is called Akin and her determination to use technology for good has seen her incorporate as a public benefit corporation (that's an American legal entity that embeds a business model that benefits both shareholders and society). Akin is bringing a new and more advanced type of AI to market, called Adaptive Reasoning. It already has customers ranging from NASA to healthcare companies with disabled clients. Now despite the fact Lee has a track record of founding and exiting several businesses, she shares with us just how difficult it is to raise funding as a female founder. In this episode you'll hear how: Lee was positively dissuaded, if not barred, from studying computer science at Uni because she was a woman She says she ignores the accepted wisdom of how to build a successful startup and that others should ignore it tooPervasive AI systems already are and how much they're influencing the decisions we make in a negative way; and The creative and unique way Lee goes about envisioning, building and growing her business. We were lucky to spend time with Lee after she spoke at the Impact Investment Summit in Sydney recently. Enjoy this episode with the visionary and genuinely pioneering Lee Yearsley. Do you work tirelessly to be there for others, but end up leaving yourself burnt out, high and dry?A self-proclaimed people pleaser, community member Maria Yearlsey, kept all of her problems and opinions locked up inside in an effort to be agreeable and keep the peace in relationships. This serious lack of self care fueled her eating disorder behaviors and self-criticism, as it was all left to fester in the darkness of the walls she put up around her. Maria struggled with an eating disorder for over 30 years before she found recovery with the help of some of Recovery Warriors educational programs. Inside the Courage Club, she opened herself up to connection and guidance to build a life of recovery. Not only did her obsession over food and body diminish, she found her voice too, and now she's not afraid to use it. She learned to embrace disagreements and healthy conflict resolution as an important part of long-lasting relationships. Given the most important relationship we have is the one with ourselves, Maria realized the importance of taking care of herself, and putting herself first in order to be there for others. Mark served in the United States Air Force for ten years, starting out as an aircraft mechanic. He loved his job but was looking for more challenges, so he switched to air traffic control for the remainder of his time in service. During a deployment in Kuwait, he sustained injuries resulting in his right leg needing to be amputated above the knee. He went into a deep depression and lost all hope and was very inactive. Eventually, he found outdoor therapy programs like No Barriers and regained purpose and meaning in his life. Now he is the Founder and Executive Director of Outdoor Salute to Veterans. There are 22 veterans that commit suicide every day and OSTV strives to reduce these numbers by taking disabled veterans on outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, rafting, rock climbing, and camping. Mark has also been married to his wife for 34 years and has three wonderful and successful children and five beautiful grandchildren.Special thanks to CoBank for sponsoring today's episode in a series highlighting Veterans. Around 1 in 7 couples may have difficulty conceiving. This is approximately 3.5 million people in the UK (NHS). Andrea Yearsley specialises in helping women maximise their fertility, help them have a baby naturally or with IVF, and help women carry babies to full term. After eight years of experiencing the infertility journey herself, Andrea was lucky to have two beautiful daughters, but knew there was a better way to navigate this journey. A successful TV producer for 15 years, she retrained as a Rapid Transformational Therapist with Marisa Peer. She set up Pebble Fertility and has been helping women get pregnant ever since. She describes the role of mindset in fertility and how the impact of failed IVF attempts can seriously impact future attempts. We discuss the role of stress on hormonal balance and how this can affect fertility. Sometimes mental blocks or limiting beliefs can prevent fertility and Andrea discusses some examples and how her method can identify, turn around and rewire the mind with new beliefs that support fertility. Andrea's compassionate yet pragmatic approach is clearly a boon to her clients and she is now extending her reach with an online community to help and advise women during this challenging time. For more information please see Andrea's website at PebbleFertility.comFind her on Facebook under Pebble FertilityBecome a London Heal Insider an receive EXCLUSIVE access to extended show notes at Londonheal.com
Hard to say which is more surprising, that Father Marin Marsenne (pictured) 1588-1648, the Father of Prime Numbers, also wrote some sweet pastoral suites for lute which inspired Jon Pace of Memphis to search for and find the world's largest primate (not in the clerical sense)number, or that quiz player and dentist Tracy of Indianapolis is the Lord of Yearsley of Yorkshire, and can go to the House of Lords when he's through pulling teeth.
