We start off 2025 right with R U S H and live music Super-fan Abe Siebel! Abe is a legend among the R U S H Tribute community, because he's that guy who's at every show, no matter where, when, or how far from his home in Yonkers, NY. You've heard his name uttered by many guests - Solar Federation, Second Contact, YYNOT, AFTK...if there's a show going on, Abe will be there! We get to know the myth that is the man and explore things like: Abe's appearance in the Time Stand Still DVD and the reaction Geddy had to his hand-made "Thanks!" poster Achieving "Orgasmatron" level fan exerience and his 58 R U S H concert experiences The 30-40 Second Contact shows Abe has seen, and his guest appearances on stage with the band, on multiple instruments The improvements Abe has seen in the Bubba Bash events over the years And in a new year, new me move, Schatz makes a power play and takes the lead to make the show RushRash with Schatz and Chaz. He brings a full report of Bubba Bash 25, and we spin Peaceable Kingdom off 2002's Vapor Trail. And as always, we don't want you to forget rushvault.com and our friends at RushIsABand.com, as well as our sponsors Danforth & Pape and Podcastle.ai too. Episode 50. Rush Song with Musician, Guitarist, and Producer Billy Alexander of YYNOT. We're getting Billy back to go deep on his new solo record, Rock & Roll Diary. Man, do we go deep on topics that shouldn't surprise you:   ·      YYNOT's totally awesome, busy, incredible, remarkable, does it get any effin better than this year ·      Billy's Rock & Roll Diary and what it was like to bring all that music to life ·      The mix of styles, influences and inspirations that make the narrative of Rock And Roll Diary an intimate view into the mind, heart, and soul of the musician ·      What it's like producing all the singles and videos as an independent artist ·      The 2025 Bubba Bash (Jan 4, Keswick Theater, Glenside PA) and some of the cool stuff up for auction ·      How grateful Billy is to be able to promote his album and have a great working family dynamic in YYNOT ·      New YYNOT project news and insight into where he's going next ·      His Bandcamp site where on December 6 he's making the whole album Rock & Roll Diary available direct digital download   The wheel gives us We Hold On from 2007's Snakes & Arrows, the last song on the album and a deep cut amongst fans. The layers and textures in the guitars leave us little wonder as to why the wheel chose this one for Billy to get to unpack. We even get a few choice, live guitar lessons along the way. It's truly an exploration in the best RushRash tradition, with plenty of musical digression along the way. In a RushRash exclusive, Chaz n' Schatz land an exclusive with vocalist Rocky Kuner and guitarist Ben King of Southern California's Mood Lifters Tribute to Rush just ahead of their disembarking for a full-on "half-a-smily-face" tour of the land Down Under, 5 cities in 5 days! We talk what it's been like since Rocky joined the band and how they continue their journey from local SoCal Rush Tribute to all-out Global Rush rash super-spreader, spreading the rash far and wide! Moods were elevated: - What it was like going to Scotland, playing Rushfest with jetlag, other musicians, and someone else's equipment. - How Ben discovered Rush through his sister in a time when MTV actually played music and how Rocky found Rush through her parents mix tapes. - Rocky's reaction to being dragged to Rush concerts by her Dad and Uncle at age 12. - How Mood Lifters and Rocky found each other after Rocky left YYNOT and how the band has gone to the next level since they've all joined creative forces. - The gear-up to do something Rush didn't even do…play a five city tour of Australia this month. - The market for Rocky's hand-written set lists and how her biggest fans are closest to the heart! - How the band is able to create such high-energy shows that has everyone singing and participating. - How the band is rounded out by Mat Miranda on drums, who couldn't be with us. And in an ongoing pattern of wheel-based shenanigans, we spin a track with no vocals, Leave That Thing Alone, off 1993's Counterparts. Rocky and Ben really get into the music and Ben helps us discern the “Celtic flavor” in Al's solo. Music appreciation and love of all the nuance, magic, energy, and intensity of multiple time signatures, key changes, and notes, notes, notes!! We name-drop (or at least think to mention in the show notes...) some of our usual suspects of our own like rushvault.com, and we are always thinking about rushisaband.com, and our fantabulous sponsor, Danforth & Pape, and podcastle.ai! As our favorite Rock and Roll Ambassador, bass player Jimmy Ashhurst, said in the very first episode, “How do you market classic rock when it's not yet classic?” Billy Alexander, the multi-talented guitarist and a cornerstone of the prog-rock outfit YYNOT, has done time as a sideman to John Waite and Anna Nalick, has produced, written, and recorded numerous artists, and with his nine-song debut solo album, Rock & Roll Diary, steps into the spotlight. In essence, Billy Alexander's work is a masterclass in balancing complexity with accessibility. While we may not have answered the question of how to market classic rock that is not yet classic, it's nice to know there are still acolytes out there writing the tunes and stomping the stages. After racking up countless road miles on tour with his band YYNOT, John Waite and Anna Nalick, producing, writing, and recording for various artists, and having two Billboard charting songs with his band Feel, Billy Alexander is set to deliver his debut solo album Rock & Roll Diary in 2024. The first taste of what's to come is the song and video release for “Hammer Of The Gods”. See the video here: https://youtu.be/NbvD8hr56jc When asked about the song Alexander explains, “Hammer Of The Gods” is a salute to some of the bands of the 70's who went big and bold. Re-shaping rock by allowing their imaginations and musical skills to take them to new places. Not afraid to experiment with new sounds, and arrangements or write more intellectual pieces. Critics of the time often calling them “self-indulgent” while I call it adventurous. His upcoming debut album Rock & Roll Diary is a nine-song-set that covers the full spectrum of rock n' roll genres. “After writing and producing three albums for my band YYNOT and years of writing for other artists, I started writing a batch of songs with no aim or intention other than just to write for myself. The songs were shaping themselves up to be a kind of reflection of my early influences and inspirational bands and artists from my youth and beyond. Some progressive rock and others more classic rock. Hints of Rush, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Tom Petty, The Beatles, and others were creeping into my creative process more and more,” shares Alexander. He continues, “When it came time to start putting the songs together in the studio, I felt even more liberated to just make a record in the spirit of the ones that lit my fire as a young teen and helped shape me as a guitarist, songwriter, and musician. Yet, I didn't just go for an obvious “retro” vibe as I'm still very much into the here and now in terms of current influences and growth in all areas. As much as this record is a celebration of my rock and roll heroes, at its core it's my story. But hopefully a story many others can relate to. My goal was to make a modern-classic Rock and Roll record similar to the ones I love”.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

His upcoming debut album "Rock & Roll Diary" is a twelve-song set that covers the full spectrum of rock n' roll genres. Alexander shared, “After writing and producing three albums for my band YYNOT and years of writing for other artists, I started writing a batch of songs with no aim or intention other than just to write for myself. The songs were shaping themselves up to be a kind of reflection of my early influences and inspirational bands and artists from my youth and beyond. Yet, I didn't just go for an obvious 'retro' vibe as I'm still very much into the here and now in terms of current influences and growth in all areas. As much as this record is a celebration of my rock and roll heroes, at its core it's my story.” Dancing About Architecture said, “Ahead of his solo debut album, 'Rock & Roll Diary,' Billy Alexander has given us a brilliant first taste of what's to come in the form of 'Hammer Of The Gods.' A heady blend of Zeppelin-esque intricacy and Def Leppard's vocal prowess, it is a song that confidently strides across the rock and roll landscape. And as it does so, it picks up all the best grooves and moves from across the eras. 70's rock grandeur meets 80's polish, 90's alternative power, 21st-century poise and production, and modern rock accessibility all ooze from its musical pores.” See the video for “Hammer Of The Gods” here: https://youtu.be/NbvD8hr56jcBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Chaz and Schatz are thrilled to present our continuing Rushian Author Series. Fresh in the footsteps of Kevin J. Anderson, we get another long-standing Case 2112 in the Rush Rash Containment Unit - author, personal pilot, and overall Rush devotee Len Roberto. Len is a Rush fan from way back who published an indie book for himself and his friends: A Simple Kind Mirror: The Lyrical Vision of Rush. Like most things done with the best intent, his labor-of-love book took on a life of its own with the Rush community. We hear how recently departed Rush "family" member and SRO/Anthem VP Pegi Cecconi blessed his published use of Rush lyrics in his prose. And we take a trip down memory lane through Len's 14 prized Rush concert ticket stubs, so hey, not just that, but so much more: - How Neil inspired Len the English Major to write and how his Rush book took on a life of its own. - The fourteen shows Len attended and his recollections of their first show back after their hiatus in 2002 in Hartford, CT. - All the elements of what makes The Garden a great Rush song and way for the band to sunset. Join Chaz and Schatz as they visit with Len and get the skinny on what makes Len tick, particularly as a writer, a reader of all things in the Peartian lexicon, and a Rushian like us. We spin the keyboard-driven "Grand Designs" from 1985's Power Windows, and enjoy...a lot of keyboards. Really. We like keyboards!!  We name-drop Bill Levine, Greg "Wolfie" Wolfe, Joe Cruz, Steve Brown, Solar Federation, YYNOT and an ongoing stream of other luminaries. With Len's help, we do the usual dive into the news and score a sweet-ass namedrop for our bitchin' sponsor Danforth and Pape. We might have missed the reference to the 2006 compilation Rush Gold, but we drew in a great tie-in for Danforth & Pape's bitchin' T-Shirt shop and facebook page – check them out at Facebook.com slash Danforth & Pape!! Patty PerShayla, a former small-town pageant queen, embraced a rock 'n' roll persona that propelled her to success. With her solo EP, "Oracle Bones," she won the 2019 WYCE Jammie Award for Best Rock/Pop Album. Teaming up with guitarist Lucas Powell and drummer Alec Klinefelter, she formed Patty PerShayla & The Mayhaps, delivering blues-infused, riff-driven music. Their debut album, "Cheap Diction," garnered attention as the band toured extensively before relocating to Nashville. The Mayhaps, despite being a three-piece band, create an electrifying sound with powerful guitar solos and captivating vocals. Patty PerShayla's larger-than-life stage presence adds to the spectacle, wielding a bass guitar nearly the size of her wingspan. While addressing the internet's impact on "Cheap Diction," the band successfully crowdfunded their music video for "Slo Mo" and received accolades at various film festivals. Patty also engages with her audience through Patreon and showcases her talent through Instagram's #1RAD challenge and YouTube covers of heavy metal songs on the ukulele. In addition to her work with The Mayhaps, Patty joined forces with The Accidentals during their 2021 national tour and performed alongside YYNOT as their lead singer. In our first "music only" episode, Ryan and Jay talk to members of the progressive rock band, YYNOT. We found these guys while browsing YouTube and were blown away by their sound and musicianship. While they're well-known for their amazing covers of classic RUSH tunes, we were equally impressed with their original music. Even with a solid helping of the Canadian power trio's influence weaved throughout their chord progressions and arrangements, they maintain their own vibe and have their own stories to tell. This episode includes a fun interview with Billy Alexander (guitar) and Tim Starace (bass) from the band, along with 3 full tracks from their Sept 2019 release, Resonance. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time with these guys and hope you'll give them a listen. You can learn more about them on their website, www.yynotband.com. During the interview, we discuss how they got their start, and how they pull off such a great live show vibe, despite being located in different states. We also get a little nerdy about music gear and favorite RUSH albums before talk about beer and other enjoyable refreshments!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesmusicandbeer)

Guitarist/producer Billy Alexander, upon seeing videos of bass virtuoso Tim Starace approached him about forming an online collaboration. Beginning in 2015 the two went to work on not only impressive original compositions such as the eponymous “YYNOT”, but covers of legendary Rush songs with staggering precision. After recruiting the talented-beyond-her-years vocalist Rocky Kuner, the band continued to churn out incredible music. Billy Alexander and Tim Starace. The self-titled debut brought even more favorable attention to this dynamic outfit, and with the addition of drummer Joel Stevenett the line up was complete. Just recently the band (which it has truly evolved into) revealed a second collection of original compositions: Resonance. One listen to songs such as “Wildest Dreams” shows an ability to wrap complex musical parts into an instantly hummable package. I was able to speak to Billy and Tim recently to discuss the formation of the group and just what goes into producing such exciting new music. In a world of disposable pop “artists”, YYNOT is a shining beacon on the hill! Watch the interview on our Youtube channel or listen to the podcast! 10 ? with YYNOT

It’s hard to argue that Tim Starace from YYNOT is just another Geddy Lee clone playing Rush’s fabled music. Both statements would be incorrect. Anybody who can even play close to the brilliance that is Geddy on bass is worthy of attention, and Tim brings a whole next level of creativity, sound, and energy to the bass.
