Listen to Dana and Derek review conference talks from the latest General Conferences of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Our last talks of the season are Be True and His Work by Elder Cook and In Partnership with the Lord by Elder Soares. Please let us know what kind of format you would prefer for next season! The poll is available on our youtube channel or on our website.
One way to know Jesus Christ better is to become acquainted with His many names and discover how to be more like them. He is known as "The Word", "The Light" and "The Way" amongst many others. Elder Schmitt confesses to a list of over 300 hundred and growing.Elder Eddy speaks of putting God to the test as we "Try the virtue of the word". We discuss these topics along with the two talks by Elders Eddy and Schmitt from the October 2022 General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Elder Denelson Silva's talk and the two remarks by President Nelson: Focus on the Temple and What is True. It is easy to hide our faith or fear being mocked for our beliefs. We reference these talks as we discuss the difference between defending and proclaiming the gospel.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are often asked why there are no crosses on our churches or why our members don't seem to wear them. Although there is no official reason for this, it has caused many members to speculate as to why that is. The talk by Jeffrey R. Holland, Lifted Up Upon the Cross, given at the October 2022 general conference is our main reference. But we also challenge all those who do wear the cross to reflect on why they wear it and what it means to them.
This week we discuss the talk given by Elder Andersen in the October 2022 General Conference about how we can draw closer to Jesus Christ. We share some of our own experiences as well (like how much we love the Chosen!)
We discuss Elder Gong's talk from the October 2022 General Conference. Although the topics are forgiveness and repentance, there is a high emphasis on our human relationships. As social animals we need other people. Even loners and introverts need other people (although in smaller doses).
This week we discuss the talks Beauty for Ashes by Sister Kristin M. Yee and Be Perfected in Him by Elder Paul V. Johnson. Both were given in Saturday afternoon session of the General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We focus on the themes of forgiveness and grace.
We discuss the talk Follow Jesus Christ with Footsteps of Faith by President M. Russell Ballard, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
We review the talks by emeritus Seventy member Elder Joseph W. Sitati and Young Men General President Steven J. Lund. The theme is discipleship and how to keep those patterns in your life especially after experiencing those spiritual highs in life.
We discuss President Nelson's message to the world about overcoming. Overcoming the world is being able to survive and thrive in happiness with complete confidence that there is more to life than what the world thinks of us. We love this talk and are sure you will too.
We did something crazy and put this episode on Youtube! The talks are by Elder Bednar and Sister Michelle D. Craig. The main themes are the parable of the wedding feast, many are called but few are chosen and trying the word. We have new music!
This Christmas, as with every Christmas, we focus on loving one another just as our Savior loved us. We discuss the talks given by President Dallin H. Oaks and Hugo Montoya about service and love and wish you all a wonderful Christmas this year!Music acknowledgementsMusic: In Dulci Jubilo by J.S. We discuss talks given by Elders Rasband and McConkie. One about the role of the Book of Mormon in sharing the gospel and the other in knowing the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Drawing from the talks given by Rafael E. Pino and Isaac K. Morrison at the most recent General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we discuss making certain habits a normal part of our daily lives. Why? Because dark days WILL come and we can do hard things when He is part of our normal lives.Music acknowledgementsMusic: In Dulci Jubilo by J.S. We discuss Elder Dale G. Renlund's talk about personal revelation and in particular the four elements he gives that form the framework of personal revelation. Personal revelation is tricky for most people as they build their relationship with God. This talk helps us to understand better what it is and what it is not.Music acknowledgementsMusic: In Dulci Jubilo by J.S. When we talk about stewardship in the Church, it is often in relation to other people. This week we are discussing Elder Stevenson's talk Nourishing and Bearing Your Testimony and Sister Browning's talk Seeing More of Jesus Christ in Our Lives from the October 2022 General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Elder Stevenson asks four questions: Do I know what a testimony is? Do I know how to bear my testimony? What are the obstacles in sharing my testimony? and How do I keep my testimony? As we studied these talks, a fifth question arose: Why do I share my testimony? Music acknowledgementsMusic: In Dulci Jubilo by J.S. Elder Uchtdorf introduced the world to the new For Strength of Youth pamphlet. As we finish this season of Conference in Review, we reflect once again on the invitation to share the joy of the gospel in our lives and realize that NOW is the time for us to make the changes and do what we have putting off for tomorrow. There is safety in God's fold but often we are tempted to leave because of the fiery darts of the adversary. Let's face it, we are living in a metaphorical storm these days. President Eyring's talk addresses this and how to build a foundation in Christ that will keep us safe in the storm. Lessons at the Well by Susan H. Porter and Christ Heals That Which is Broken by Amy A. Wright. Two very important stories of healing in the Bible are about broken women. Isn't it interesting that Christ chose to open his ministry to a woman so mired in baggage that she couldn't even draw water from the well when others were around? Christ's message of healing is for all.Music acknowledgementsMusic: In Dulci Jubilo by J.S. As the children go back to school, it made us think of all the peer pressure they face to go against things that they know are right. This sort of pressure never really goes away in adulthood. How often have you been tempted to give into arguing your point rather than letting it go? We talk about the pressures of living a Christ centered life in a Me centered world. Often times after we've had a great spiritual experience in our lives we fall back into a rut. This rut can last weeks, months and maybe even years. You may look at other people on fire with the gospel and you wonder why you aren't feeling it. Maybe life hasn't turned out even close to the way you'd hoped. These talks from the April 2022 general conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints address that. Here's a great Come Follow Me podcast link I reference in this episode by Melanie Stroud: Episode 25 – Esther “Thou Art Come … for Such a Time as This” – Come Follow Me, for Us (comefollowmeforus.com)Great news, I am also updating our website. Sacrifice=joy? That never sounds right. However to get the momentum to soar there are things that we may give up and there are things that we consecrate meaning use for the Lord rather than just giving them up. These are two principles that are spoken of in the temple and for a long time I never knew the difference. Enjoy!Music acknowledgementsMusic: In Dulci Jubilo by J.S. The church is people. We are a support to one another and a blessing. One of the things the church teaches its members is how to be self reliant. Very fitting for this 4th of July we discuss the talk To Heal the World by Ronald A. Rasband. No matter what our mortal experience may entail, we can trust God and find joy in Him. This talk was given by Elder Ulisses Soares of the quorum of the twelve apostles. Once we have had a wonderful experience with the spirit, we want to keep it forever. Unfortunately life will push us off course and threaten to dull the brightness we once had. This is a lovely talk about how to keep that vibrancy alive and to grow more and more confident in our testimonies of Jesus Christ.Music acknowledgementsMusic: In Dulci Jubilo by J.S.
