    Jordan Browne is a producer for Michigan Out of Doors TV. They travel all around the state putting out episodes every week, all year round. As many know, he is a top notch deer and turkey hunter. I was surprised to find out that he’s had continued success elk hunting out in Colorado and was able to get a successful deer hunt on film at the young age of 14. We talk about some of his more advanced deer hunting tactics and how he was able to spot and stalk his buck this year in Michigan. He lets us know if he could pick any place to live in Michigan for hunting where that would be. We also talk about some of his most memorable trips and also the most dangerous ones.

    Chris is a fish biologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The past couple years they have stayed at Island View Resort in November working on a Cisco project. These Herring are planted in the Saginaw Bay area to help rehabilitate the deep water population there. I learned that Herring can live well over 20 years. They are a great food source for Walleye, which acts as a good buffer between the Walleye and Perch. Chris shares some cool things to check out such as local fish hatcheries and ways to get involved, whether you want to volunteer or make a career in natural resources.

    Mahting is a professional photographer for adventure sports and the owner of Hunt To Eat. Hunt to Eat is an apparel brand out of Colorado that raises a lot of money for conservation.  They collaborate with organizations, some of which are BHA, TRCP, NWF, Phesants Forever, and Artemis. Also with outdoor leaders like Randy Newberg, Remi Warren and Hank Shaw. And companies such as Federal Premium, Phelps Game Calls and OnX. Mahting stayed up at Island View Resort in Michigan’s Eastern upper penninsula with our friends, Ryan Cavanaugh and Jason Meekhof. We spent the week duck and Woodcock hunting. Jason was able to get his first ever ducks and Mahting got his first Timberdoodle.  We also ate a lot of great food and just had a good time. We discuss and learn the importance of first aid in the field when my dog starts bleeding bad in an area with no access to a vet. We discuss the importance of introducing people to wild game with something they are comfortable with like a cheese burger and easy and delicious recipes for sandwhiches, Geese, and Antelope. Also Mahting shares the story of his bucket list hunt for Caribou, in Alaska, north of the Arctic Circle.

He shares great stories of Salmon, Steelhead, and Brown Trout on the Pere Marquette River, the Norfork in Arkansas, and summers in Montana. Also, Bone Fish and Tarpon in the Florida Keys and huge Rainbow Trout and King Salmon on the Kamchatka Peninsula of Russia, where massive coastal Brown Bears aren't used to sharing their rivers. With all the great adventures he's been on though, there's nothing he enjoys more than the relationships made and creating memories with friends and family.

    Dr. Karl Malcolm is the Wildlife Ecologist for the Southwestern region of The U.S. Forest Service. He has many published works, has been featured in many articles and been a frequent guest on The Meat Eater TV show and podcast. He has hunted across the country for moose, turkey, elk, pronghorn, mule deer, whitetail, and Mearns quail to name a few. He grew up around Traverse City Michigan and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He then went over to the University of Wisconsin Madison where he earned his masters and PHD in Wildlife Ecology. He has done extensive work with black bears both in the U.S. and in China. He now resides in New Mexico with his wife and daughter. We discuss how small and tight the hunting and fishing community is. The variety of animals and habitat in New Mexico. The importance and influence of Aldo Leopold. Also, we discuss the importance of bringing together both the hunting and non hunting community for the benefit of the future of what we love.
