    Ivy Insights

The Okie Bookcast is a delightful podcast that celebrates the literary world, with a specific focus on authors and books written by Oklahoma writers. As an avid reader and native Oklahoman, stumbling upon this podcast has been a wonderful discovery. Host J does a fantastic job of keeping the conversations both fun and light-hearted while also being educational. Each episode leaves me excited to dive into the books they discuss, and I appreciate the wide range of guests they bring on the show. It's surprising to realize just how many talented writers call Oklahoma home.

One of the best aspects of The Okie Bookcast is its ability to challenge misconceptions about Oklahoma. Many people assume that our state is only known for cowboys and tornados, but this podcast offers a rich look into who we truly are as a literary community. It opens up my mind to all the different perspectives and voices that exist within Oklahoma's writing scene. This podcast showcases the diversity and depth of talent in our state, introducing listeners to new authors and stories they may have never discovered otherwise.

While there aren't any glaringly negative aspects to this podcast, one area for improvement could be in diversifying its guest lineup even further. While they do feature great guests, it would be interesting to see more representation from different backgrounds or genres within Oklahoma's literary community. This would provide an even broader perspective and attract an even wider audience.

In conclusion, The Okie Bookcast is a must-listen for any book lover, especially those interested in exploring authors from Oklahoma. The host's engaging style keeps listeners entertained while also providing valuable insights into various literary works. It's refreshing to see a podcast dedicated to highlighting local authors and challenging stereotypes about our state. Through these conversations about books, this podcast fosters a sense of community among readers and writers alike, reminding us of the enduring power of storytelling in all its forms.

Something a little different for this episode. I'm joined by Garret Castleberry and Scott McMurry from the Special Topics in Media podcast to talk about the film version of Killers of the Flower Moon and how it works as an adaptation of David Grann's book. We talk a lot about different elements and how they compare between the two versions and ultimately answer the question of whether someone should read the book or watch the film first. This is Part One of our conversation. Part Two focuses on an analysis of the film itself and will be posted to the Special Topics in Media feed soon.
