Scott is a business owner and creative on many levels. Poetry first found Scott in his late teens when he fell in love with a closet hobby that allowed him to express himself in a whole new way and rise to the point of being a featured poet in New Jersey. He laid his pen down and stepped away from his creative flow to join the United States Marine Corps where he served for four years and then returned to his hometown to become a police officer where he served for five years until he retired due to injury. Over two decades after laying down his pen he rediscovered his poetic passions through the clubhouse app. Scott originally joined clubhouse to further his global business consulting firm however he found people such as Melikia K. Courtney and Nate Sr. that help draw out his creativity and provide spaces that allowed his passion to take root once again. Now Father Time runs the club Partners In Rhyme which hosts an open mike once a week every Friday night at 8 pm est called Lyrical Vibes which both he and Melikia moderate together. In this episode, I have the pleasure of continuing our four-part Poetical series in honor of the launch of Poetical: Volume 1 an anthology of poems created by four extremely talented poets who bring flavor, authenticity, and style to the art of storytelling through poetry. Come and join the conversation with our third guest in the series: Aleja JimenezAbout Aleja Jimenez Alejandra Jimenez, otherwise Aleja, is a self-identifying queer chicanx poeta.Aleja is the first-born, of 5 children, of two Mexican- Immigrant parents, from Zacatecas and Jalisco, MX. She grew up moving around Orange County, CA and later in the Inland Empire, CA, epicenters of Latinx communities, as well as frequently visiting her parents' native Mexico. Aleja's writing is highly influenced by a desire to become the representation of her gente, her culture, and herself she did not see growing up. Living in an undocumented household, Aleja is very familiar with the anxieties caused by the possibility of separation constantly looming, among other everyday struggles faced by immigrant communities. Being part of a family that is primarily made up of women, she has witnessed both, how their growth has been hindered by machista traditions and how they have rebelled against those traditions in their own ways. Like the women that came before her, she aims to use her craft to reclaim her agency and help others, in particular women and femmes, do the same. She moves through the world constantly aware that liberation begins with ourselves and slowly moves into a collective healing. Identifying as a writing bruja, Aleja writes from a place of honesty: examining, critiquing, and exposing that which she loves most, seeking truth in an effort to achieve growth and progress. If Aleja is not reading, writing, or hiking, you can find her bailando through her limpia ceremonies in the comfort of her sacred place: her bedroom or some local mountain.Guest Social Media@IAMALEJAJIMENEZ (instagram)Book Social Media@iamapoetical (Instagram)Publisher (for Poetical)J and B Press__________________________Host Social Media@Seonthepoet (Instagram)@Seonthepoet (Twitter)
