We all pretty well get physical health: we get colds, some people get chronic illnesses; we can neglect our bodies by eating processed foods and avoiding exercise until we become sick. So why have we had such a hard time grasping the importance of mental health? In our first episode with a guest direct from the mental health space Brendon and Brittney take the perspective of total beginners stepping out of the fitness world and into the mental health arena to ask all the questions you might have about overcoming anxiety and depression and actually being happier. Ever wonder if being devastated after a rough breakup counts as depression? Wondering if talking to your friends about your struggle is good enough, or if you should seek professional help?Jim Demeray, the owner of UnderstandUs - an organization dedicated to bringing awareness to mental health issues has answers and shares from his personal story. Jim's life took a turn when he lost his dad who struggled with depression. He discovered his own anxiety around the age of 26. Episode 52 with writer and past affiliate owner, Lisbeth Darsh, will make you laugh and leave you inspired that with a little hard work and consistency you can achieve any and all of your goals. Lisbeth is the author of five books, a blogger for herself and Eat to Perform, and previous CrossFit employee. Just when we thought the boys from Barbell Shrugged were the best at relating anything to training, this blogger takes the metaphors to an entirely new level by poetically relating the struggles and victories in life to moving a barbell. We’d recommend this episode for anyone who feels pressure to choose between two things they love (for Lisbeth it was writing and being a trainer) to learn how you can mold them together to create your own beautiful field of mastery. We’d also suggest this show for anyone starting a fitness journey later in life, anyone who feels like no matter what they achieve it isn’t good enough, anyone who wants to enjoy the little things in life more, or anyone looking for a good laugh.Basically, if you’re human, press play now and prepare to be motivated. You can check out Lisbeth on Instagram and Facebook: @lisbethdarsh and Lisbeth Darsh. If you have yet to hear the unfortunate news, we lost a big part of our community last Monday. Chris Moore passed away suddenly on Monday June 6th at his new home in Amsterdam. For some of you he was a large reason why you decided to dive into CrossFit or strength sports from his words on the Barbell Shrugged Podcast, his own podcast; Barbell Buddha, and his books that he wrote. He was an extraordinary individual and his words shall be lessons to many in the future as he leaves behind a legacy with all the amazing work he did before he left. We had the chance to chat with him and Mike Bledsoe on episodes 20 and 21, the episode will serve as a tribute to Chris combining both for you to listen to. Thanks again as always for listening everyone, if you'd like to make a donation to his family you can do so by CLICKING HERE.
