“I look at the opportunity to have done so many seminars, to have traveled the world into so many gyms, and meet so many people — it is something that has such a profound impact on my life in the sense of what I learned, the people I was able to interact with, and the other trainers. … When you're around people that chase excellence, that want to be the best, that want feedback, that are willing to give you feedback, you cannot be complacent. You have to be better.” General Manager of Global Affiliates Austin Malleolo joins the show and shares his journey discovering CrossFit, joining the Seminar Staff, and helping CrossFit affiliates grow and flourish in his current role. Malleolo was introduced to CrossFit while working as a personal trainer. He took on benchmark workout Fran and was drawn in. He began researching and learning more about the sport, wanting to be more involved and ultimately became a competitive athlete, affiliate owner, and coach. While coaching, finishing his degree, and training for the Games, Malleolo made his Games debut in 2016, placing sixth overall. After emailing Dave Castro with a request to intern, Malleolo eventually joined the Seminar Staff and began teaching CrossFit seminars worldwide, while also balancing his competitive career. He has taught over 400 Level 1 and Level 2 seminars, and at one point averaged 40 seminars a year. In today's episode, Malleolo opens up about finding his purpose through CrossFit and explains his path to becoming the General Manager of Global Affiliates, sharing stories, experiences, and wisdom he's gained along the way. He also describes his role in growing, developing, and better-serving affiliates and the community, and gives insight into CrossFit's vision and trajectory for the future. Learn more about Malleolo's CrossFit career, as an athlete and a staff member, and don't miss his answers to the Final Five at the end of the podcast. We recorded this conversation during the height of the COVID Pandemic, while most of us are working from home and sheltering in place. So in this conversation we discuss Austin’s daily routines, when he works out, how he and his wife split of the parenting so that working from home can still happen, how fitness allows him to be the kind of father that he always wanted to be, and simple tips and tricks for you to get motivated to fight the dad bod. You’ll want to stick around to the end of the show where we discuss how you can integrate fitness into the family without overwhelming your spouse or kids!Links: Austin on Instagramhttp://thehamplan.com/The Soap BoxAs always, don't forget to subscribe, and for a FREE guide to fighting the dad bod, which includes 5 simple tips and 18 bonus workouts, hit the link below!http://dadbodwod.net

Shiloh began the CrossFit kids program at 7 years old in March of 2013 at CrossFit Free in Salem, NH, that summer he attended the Northeast Regionals and has been hooked ever since. In 2014 Shiloh began Olympic style weightlifting, with Coach Brandon Petersen, after watching the LiveFree Lifting team compete at The Atlantic States Championships. Since then he has competed on the Local and National level and earned three silver medals at the 2015 USAW Youth National Championships in Minneapolis, MN. At the 2015 East Regionals in Hartford, CT Shiloh met the people from Kettlebells4kids and was impacted by the fact that the average age of a homeless PERSON in America is 9 years old, at the time he was 9 and couldn’t fathom how that was possible. He wanted to be involved in solving this problem so we contacted Amie Turrill Owens the founder and he began helping raise funds and awareness. Last year Shiloh travelled to CrossFit Boxes in MA, NH, ME, CT & RI talking about Kettlebells4kids and getting boxes and athletes, like Spencer Hendel and Austin Malleolo to get involved. He also did several corporate presentations and other fundraising activities rasing $6,547.00. This year Shiloh has travelled outside of New England to CrossFit Boxes in TN & GA meeting with Rich Froning and Kurt Mullican. Also this year using the power of social media he has put together Team Dream Big, a group of 11 kids in CA, OR, IA, SC, PA, MA, CT, LA & FL. The goal of Team Dream Big is to spread awareness of the challenges facing America’s 2.5 million homeless kids and to raise funds to support Kettlebells4kids efforts in those states.Starting in April Shiloh will be competing in the Next Generation Games a series of eight kids CrossFit competitions in CT, MA & NJ. Last year in the inaugural year of the NGG Shiloh won first place overall and will be set to defend his title this year. http://www.kettlebells4kids.org/
Austin Malleolo is a formidable CrossFit competitor and level three trainer, but he says there was not much indication earlier in his life that he would achieve what he has. He was a troubled youth who was making many bad decisions that ultimately lead him to his path and passion. Instead of allowing him to continue down a trajectory that was aimed straight at a life of dead ends and possible prison, his father wisely opted to derail that destiny. In this podcast Mallelollo describes how this change in his frame of reference got him back on the track to a fulfilling life.Lessons: 1. Physical disadvantages just mean that you have to work harder than everyone else to succeed. 2. Everybody needs someone in their corner. 3. Practice with someone better than you. 4. You control your own destiny.
