Michael Cazayoux is a former CrossFit Games champion, founder of the Brute Strength Podcast (now the Michael Caz Podcast), and co-founder of the nutrition coaching company Working Against Gravity. I listened to his podcast for years, consuming all the amazing content he put out there, and it was a huge inspiration for me creating this podcast and seeking to interview some amazing people. His latest project is the one I've been the most intrigued by, Soul Searching Adventures. His tagline reads, "Men Wanted. For hazardous wilderness journey, physical and emotional hardship guaranteed, many days completed disconnected from society, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Growth, clarity, peace and connection in case of success."I share a similar passion to Michael's regarding the power that experiences outdoors and in the wilderness can have on us, and I loved getting the chance to hear him explain more about it and hear where this passion of his comes from.We hope you enjoy the episode, and please don't forgot to rate it and subscribe so you don't miss out on new content! Building yourself up physically (packing on muscle, getting stronger, becoming faster and more powerful, etc.) is a concept you'll hear us preach about at Rebel quite a bit. The type of strength we aren't coaching on a typical day is the strength that you can't physically see – the spiritual strength that exists on the inside. This is why I wanted to have Michael Cazayoux on the podcast to unpack his health and fitness journey because he brings a ton of important information to the table that I think goes unnoticed in our industry. From winning multiple team titles at the CrossFit Games, to working as a strength and conditioning coach for LSU, to co-owning a fitness company, Brute Strength, to running Working Against Gravity with his wife, to now running Soul Searching Adventures where he takes groups of men out on epic outdoor adventures to do deep introspective work together... All to say, Michael's lived and learned a lot. The meat and potatoes of our conversation are surrounding fitness, health, and strength and how the three have evolved with him over time. We've all have had moments of reflection where we feel lost when transitioning from one phase of life to another, especially when our health and wellness are involved. Listen in to hear Michael unpack what it means to have an identity shift, what that actually looks like for a former athlete, and exercises you can do to become more intentional and gain insight for yourself. What You'll Learn in this Episode: [08:07] The story behind how Michael got started with Soul Searching Adventures [09:22] How Michael thinks about health and fitness today compared to earlier days as a strength and conditioning coach and while competing in CrossFit [12:27] The identify shift you experience when you stop being a high-level, competitive athlete [13:21] The new values Michael has on fitness [17:48] Being self aware enough when your goals and priorities have shifted from one phase to the next [19:27] What it means to transcend something [20:36] The ability to get out and express yourself in nature [22:31] Using physical challenges to gain insight in other areas of life [23:41] Two challenges for a former athlete in a reflective space [25:37] Exercises to become more intentional and feel more comfortable in reflection [31:24] Michael's main goal to deliver in his Soul Searching Adventures Links: Explore our free training samples here: https://www.rebel-performance.com/training-templates/ (https://www.rebel-performance.com/training-templates/) Follow Michael Cazayoux here: https://www.instagram.com/michaelcazayoux/ (https://www.instagram.com/michaelcazayoux/) Follow James Cerbie here: https://www.instagram.com/jamescerbie/ (https://www.instagram.com/jamescerbie/) Check out Michael's podcast here: https://apple.co/3tI0a42 (https://apple.co/3tI0a42) Subscribe to Michael's newsletter here: https://mcaz.substack.com/ (https://mcaz.substack.com/) Check out Soul Searching Adventures here: https://soulsearchingadventures.com (https://soulsearchingadventures.com) Follow Rebel here: https://www.instagram.com/therebelperformance/ (https://www.instagram.com/therebelperformance/) Join our Rebel FB group here: https://bit.ly/3KfGk6A (https://bit.ly/3KfGk6A) Want to learn more about the Rebel Performance Training Team? In today's episode, host Michael Cazayoux interviews Ivette Carcas, the Training Director for Working Against Gravity. Ivette joined WAG as a client in 2014 and began working with Adee as her coach (Adee is still her coach to this day!). Before that, Ivette trained as a ballet dancer for 27 years (she's since switched to flamenco). She worked as an architect and has her first Master's degree in architecture. She's also a competitive Olympic weightlifter. For years, Ivette sought a way to work in the nutrition world. So, when Adee offered her a job with WAG, Ivette jumped at the chance. Since then, Ivette has become WAG's top coach. She's in charge of the creation and operation of our WAG Coach Certification. In this interview, Michael and Ivette talk about the WAG Certification, including how it offers students something that no other nutrition certification offers: digital mentorship. Certification students get hands-on feedback and support during their completion of the certification and also after graduation. Listen in to hear Ivette outline the most important skills required to be an excellent nutrition coach. Michael Cazayoux, president of WAG, specializes in helping his team and clients “get out of their own way” by identifying self-limiting beliefs and ineffective behaviors. In fact, the back-to-back CrossFit World Cup Champion is no stranger to this unique process of self-examination. At the impressionable age of 17, Cazayoux confronted his own limiting beliefs and ineffective behaviors head on, attending drug rehabilitation to overcome his addiction to opiates. It’s this experience that inspired a love of health and fitness on a personal level, which later translated into a passion for coaching and mentoring inside and out of the gym.Prior to joining WAG, Michael cofounded Brute Strength, an online fitness training company, where he continues to contribute to operations and remains as the podcast host.Beyond “the office,” the young entrepreneur is most proud of his marriage to Adee Cazayoux, his partner in love, life and fitness. In his free time, Cazayoux enjoys backpacking, snowboarding, woodworking, bow shooting, hunting and creating enormous value in people’s lives — especially his closest family and friends.Connect with Michael:Instagram | @michaelcazayouxWebsiteConnect with Angelo & Alpha Hippie:WebsiteInstagramFacebookFree Facebook GroupSubscribe to the Alpha Hippie Podcast:Apple PodcastsSpotifyIf you are called to support the podcast, please share the show with a friend!!! Every time I hit 'Publish' and an episode gets released into The Universe, I often take pause - and realize that it's still there. I'm talking about that wonderful sense of excitement, gratitude, and respect that has always characterized every one of these amazing interviews. It's a humbling thing to realize that, behind the achievements, the celebrity, the notoriety, the expertise, if one is willing to humble yourself and listen, you have the opportunity to get to know an incredible human being. Today's guest is no different. I had been a big fan of my next guest for a really long time as I greatly admired this warrior's journey. As a back-to-back CrossFit Games World Cup Champion(2012, 2013) Michael Cazayoux is no stranger to the importance of one's mindset when overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles. As a Coach, being well-accustomed to the unique process of self-examination, he specializes in helping clients “get out of their own way” by identifying self-limiting beliefs and ineffective behaviors. He could certainly draw from personal experience as at the age of 17, Michael moved from a small town in Louisiana to Utah for drug rehabilitation to overcome his addiction to opiates. It was that experience that led him to fall in love with CrossFit and most importantly helping others on a personal level through coaching and mentoring. In 2014, Michael co-founded Brute Strength, a company that specializes in developing physical training programs for athletes. Over the years, he has coached A-List NFL and MLB players as well as CrossFit Games athletes in everything from power and speed development to injury prevention, nutrition and mindset. He also started the Brute Strength Podcast(which was recently rebranded as The Michael Caz Podcast) where he’s interviewed many of the biggest names in health and fitness and has reached nearly 5 million downloads. In 2015, Michael met his wife, Adee, founder/CEO of Working Against Gravity(WAG),an online nutrition consulting program dedicated to helping athletes and everyday people transform their lives. Having sold Brute Strength to his business partner in 2018, Michael is now acting full-time president of WAG where he currently focuses on marketing, leadership and nutrition coaching.. On this impactful episode, Michael shares his incredible perspective on commitment, acceptance, compassion, parenting, dedication and so much more. A jam-packed episode, which I do hope you'll enjoy. You can connect with Michael via Instagram as well the WAG official website.
Adee Cazayoux is a wife, a new mom and the CEO/Founder of Working Against Gravity, an online nutrition coaching program. She has worked with elite athletes Katrin Davidsdottir, Tia Claire Toomey and more. She is also an athlete herself, having won the Bronze medal in the 2016 Canadian National Weightlifting Championships and having competed in the National Pro Grid League. Honestly, Adee is kind of a big deal, guys. Adee and her husband, Michael Cazayoux, help people create intention in their lives and thrive in fitness, nutrition, relationships and more! They are an absolute power couple and have worked together over the past five years to build for themselves an incredible and unique relationship through - you guessed it! - intention. The energy these two bring into the world is unique, beautiful and exciting!! In this episode, Adee joins us to chat about how she and Michael worked together to maintain their intimacy after the birth of their son, Shai. Adee brings us concrete tips and strategies as well as sharing her own personal experience in this vulnerable undertaking. Join us as we chat about pursuing intimacy after baby in the face of decreased sexual desire, body changes, exhaustion and, well, the presence of a new baby! Addiction comes in many forms and flavors. For Michael Cazayoux, it started early and involved numerous substances. After years of rehabilitation, Michael is one of the few who have been able to return to recreational use of some substances with a newfound series of practices that keep him in integrity. He is a close personal friend who has grown considerably during his relationship with addiction and is now creating live experiences in nature to facilitate growth for others.
Former host of The Brute Strength Podcast, Michael Cazayoux explains the recent name change of his podcast and shares some exciting news on what to expect!
This episode is the first in a series where Michael Cazayoux interviews WAG staff members and coaches. In this episode, he interviews Taylor Lumpp, our Head of Operations and one of our original coaches. She’s a 64 kg Olympic weightlifter, a multi-time national medalist, and she even won the Arnold Classic this year. Professionally, Taylor was an FBI agent for 4 years, starting at age 19 (you won’t want to miss hearing about this part of her story!). In this episode, we learn about: How Taylor found WAG and why she wanted to join What WAG was like in those early days (and how things have changed) What it was like being coached by (and developing a friendship with) Adee How her relationship with food has evolved and improved What she’s learned after working with hundreds (possibly thousands!) of clients Taylor believes that a person’s success on a nutrition plan can be attributed, in large part, to the degree of suffering they’re experiencing. Check out the episode to hear her explain why! We would love to hear from you! Adee Cazayoux is the Founder and CEO of Working Against Gravity (WAG), an online nutrition coaching program with a mission to transform lives. Having made a name for herself in nutrition, Cazayoux has worked with elite athletes such as Katrin Davidsdottir, Jessica Lucero and Tia Clair-Toomey, just to spotlight a few. Adee is lifelong learner with a Bachelors in Honors Psychology and a Masters in Teaching and is working toward a Masters in Nutrition and Human Performance. Beyond being an entrepreneur and student of the nutritional sciences, Adee is also an accomplished athlete, having competed in the National Pro Grid League, CrossFit Open and won the Bronze Medal in the 2016 Canadian National Weightlifting Championships. It's this experience that inspired a love of health and fitness on a personal level, which later translated into a passion for coaching and mentoring inside and out of the gym. Prior to joining WAG, Michael cofounded Brute Strength, an online fitness training company, where he continues to contribute to operations and remains as the podcast host. Adee and Michael live in Austin with their dog, Otis and welcomed their first child this year.

In today’s episode, host Michael Cazayoux interviews Ivette Carcas, the Training Director for Working Against Gravity. Ivette joined WAG as a client in 2014 and began working with Adee as her coach (Adee is still her coach to this day!). Before that, Ivette trained as a ballet dancer for 27 years (she’s since switched to flamenco). She worked as an architect and has her first Master’s degree in architecture. She’s also a competitive Olympic weightlifter. For years, Ivette sought a way to work in the nutrition world. So, when Adee offered her a job with WAG, Ivette jumped at the chance. Since then, Ivette has become WAG’s top coach. She’s in charge of the creation and operation of our WAG Coach Certification. We would love to hear from you! You’ve heard of mediation. You've probably come across statistics or heard from friends that it can reduce stress levels, improve overall quality of life, and even aid in weight loss. But maybe, even armed with this information, you’re wary about it. Maybe you’ve tried it and didn't like it, or you felt like it didn’t work. We understand those feelings — and we also want to convince you to give meditation another try! Here is a quick explanation about why meditation is effective and how it can improve your life. Below is the natural human response to life circumstances and events: Life circumstances trigger thoughts. For example, you heard on the news that COVID-19 will likely require social isolation in your area for another month or more. You think to yourself, “This quarantine is endless.” Thoughts trigger emotions. Your thought about the quarantine causes you to feel discouraged, angry, and hopeless. Emotions trigger behaviors. Your feelings of anger and hopelessness cause you to seek comfort in the form of the Girl Scout cookies in the pantry. Behaviors give us results (positive or negative). Your behavior—choosing the cookies—causes you to feel like you’ve “ruined” your nutrition plan for the day, so you go on an all-out eating spree, committing to restarting your diet tomorrow. Through meditation, you can create a gap between the circumstances and the thoughts you have about them. This helps you respond (rather than react) to your circumstances, which leads to more positive results. We hope this encourages you to try today’s guided meditation with Michael Cazayoux! Meditation changed Michael’s life and we know it can change yours, too. We would love to hear from you! Adam Feit has been teaching people how to win from an early age. As an adult, that mentality carried over into his career as he became a coach and worked with athletes at all levels, including the NFL’s Carolina Panthers and college football teams like the University of Louisville. Even though he was living what many, including Adam, considered the dream, something clicked that it was time for change. That’s when he decided to open a sports performance center for kids. This week, the coach, athlete and entrepreneur joins our host Michael Cazayoux on the Brute Strength Podcast to teach you the power of starting small and how small habits can lead to big results.
