Welcome back to the new season Episode 2!Here we get into a meet recap of American Open 2 held in Ft Worth, Texas. We also expand more from last weeks topic “what goes into a prep”. A huge huge Thank You to my mentors for allowing me to tag along and ask a million questions. In this episode we also scratch the surface of “Does adding extra work to your programming = More success?” (No it doesnt). Our last segment of the day involves food. There are quite a FEW experts who are quick to pass macros or calories to hit - but there is many factors to consider when giving food advice.Thank you for the continued support - @ThatParalyzedGuy- @AboveAverageLads_Podcast
Videogames have always depicted representations of American culture, but how exactly they feed back into this culture is less obvious. Advocating an action-based understanding of both videogames and culture, this book delineates how aspects of American culture are reproduced transnationally through popular open-world videogames. Playing American: Open-World Videogames and the Reproduction of American Culture (De Gruyter, 2023) proposes an analytic focus on open-world videogames' "ambient operations" and traces practices of "playing American" through the stages of videogame development, gameplay, and reception. Three case studies - concentrating on the Grand Theft Auto, Watch Dogs, and Red Dead Redemption franchises, respectively - highlight different figurations of "playing American." Thematic foci range from public discourses on systemic racism and neoliberal capitalism to the justification of real-world surveillance practices and to the reconfiguration of the Western in the digital age. Playing American provides those interested in either videogames or American culture with a fresh angle and new concepts regarding its subject matters. It demonstrates that videogames are agents of cultural reproduction that do distinct cultural work for American culture in the twenty-first century. Rudolf Inderst is a professor of Game Design with a focus on Digital Game Studies at the IU International University of Applied Science, department lead for Games at Swiss culture magazine Nahaufnahmen.ch, editor of “DiGRA D-A-CH Game Studies Watchlist”, a weekly messenger newsletter about Game Culture and curator of @gamestudies at tiktok. In this episode, I am honored to have Ms. Ingrid Marcum as a guest on Boss Talk. Please enjoy this episode as we discuss Ingrid's career, post career, her dogs, her wellness, and her favorite beers. It was a fun episode! Thanks Ingrid you are amazing! Ingrid began her athletic career as a gymnast at the local YMCA before she was 2 years old! She competed for the YMCA, Illinois Gymnastics Institute, and finally the College of William and Mary - where she earned a BBA in Marketing. Her love of movement and strength began in those early years as a gymnast. She was fortunate to have a coach that included a significant amount of strength work - mostly bodyweight - into their practices. At 8 years old, Ingrid performed 252 push ups and could walk the perimeter of the gym on her hands! This consistent training built a foundation of strength that enabled her to excel in many arenas beyond gymnastics. After her gymnastics career ended (since you're over the hill at 21!), Ingrid found olympic weightlifting. Sixth podcast episode by Kathleen Peddicord and Lief Simon – Podcast From ParisSubscribe to our Newsletter at https://www.liveandinvestoverseas.com... Join our Overseas Living Clubhouse at https://www.facebook.com/groups/overs... Here are the question addressed in today's episode:Jane O. asks:"I found your very informative website today and have a couple of questions before I subscribe to your e-letter. First, does the same information apply to Canadians as well as U.S. citizens?"Also, do you know a publication like yours that's written specifically for Canadians? "We have been thinking about doing this for a while but just need the right info before we take the plunge."From Harry M.:"Is it currently possible for an American citizen to open a bank account in Panama without a Panama address?Jeff C. writes:“I attended the live webinar last week and am interested in the Panama Hydroponics project. I have a couple questions regarding the process for purchasing using an SDIRA but have been unable to reach anyone at the number posted above (815-239-6414).“I am a retired US air traffic controller with a FERS pension and a TSP account. My wife and I attended one of your Live and Invest Overseas seminars (Orlando, Nov 2015?) and have spent the last three years living in various locations throughout Europe as well as Mexico and Colombia.“The basic issue is that I will need to pull money from my TSP account to purchase two or three "shares" of the Hydroponics project. I am 55 years old, so the only way to do this without paying penalties to the IRS is to set up a Self-Directed IRA and use it to purchase the hydroponics. I have found a company which is experienced with funding an SDIRA from a TSP account so that part should be fairly easy. The problem is just a matter of timing. I'm only willing to move money from the TSP to the SDIRA if there is still availability in the hydroponics project. With all the Coronavirus issues, it might take 6 weeks or so to get the money moved around and available.“Could you please verify that you are still accepting applications and whether it would be possible to purchase 2 or 3 "shares" (I don't know what else to call them) using an SDIRA?”

Camille Herron has smashed the records with her performance at Desert Solstice this Saturday. Herron broke the Women’s World Record for 24 Hours with a distance of 162.9 miles, the event’s best performance. Herron also claimed the 100 mile American Track Record for Women, with a time of 13:25:00. Herron exhibited blazing speed day and night, and this performance marks an important addition to her already extraordinary trove of awards and achievements. Desert Solstice was a cache of stellar performance on the whole. Distances beyond the 150 mile milestone, already astonishing, are incredibly rare; there were merely a couple in all the preceding months of this year. Yet, five runners from the Solstice roster surpassed that tormenting marker, going 150 miles or more. These are stunning results from a stacked field. Such achievements speak to how important records-based events such as Solstice can be. Other notable performances include Oswaldo Lopez, who has established a new 24 Hour Men’s Record for Mexico with a distance of 139.6 miles, and Andrew Snopes, who ran 144 miles barefoot. Greg Armstrong, coming in third, also completed his 155 mile run in Teva sandals! Some notable participants had to call it early for injury and fatigue, such as Courtney Dauwalter and Zach Bitter. Such impediments are endemic to such long distances, and comprise the central struggle of such events. We are excited for these athletes’ performances to come, in the 2019 season. Cheers to all participants! Strength has several facets; it can mean being quiet, surrendering, or letting go of things. Strength isn't always just this raw charge moving forward. What "Paleo" means to her today and how her views have changed. How she has worked through her fears of money and not knowing how to handle her personal narrative of wealth. Whether or not our interest in the people we look up to and our heroes is beneficial for ourselves. What "hate following" is and how we can stop giving our energy to it. Why strength has so many different faces and meanings. What steps we can take to reframe how we see and think about our bodies. The biggest limiting belief about women and lifting weights. How to find a gym where you will feel comfortable at. Why the narrative that women can't be strong is completely false. How we can support women who want to work on improving their physical fitness. How she honors both her strong, confident self and highly sensitive personality. Why we feel like we need permission to take a break and just rest our mind and body. How she balances her life working from home and her advice to people struggling to take their mind off of work and pressure. What to eat after a workout; especially if you're insulin sensitive and looking for gluten-free options. The downfall of following a diet that bans certain foods compared to adding in better, healthier options as a swap. Steps we can take for social justice with #MeToo and #WeToo through face to face discussion. How we can improve communication with the people in our lives by setting boundaries around cellphone and technology use. How we can set boundaries when it comes to helping people and allowing them to work through their own process. About her upcoming book and the possible title of it, "The Harder to Kill Handbook." Power Quotes From The Show "Food labels help us navigate but they can also be constricting and then they don't even necessarily serve the greater purpose of eating healthy. It doesn't matter if something is Paleo or not; it's about whether or not it works for you." - @steph_gaudreau http://bit.ly/wfpodcast "What's the difference between a leader and an influencer? Are you following somebody because you feel that you can trust them as a leader or are they just influencing you to buy something? Are they forcing you to follow their exact both or are they challenging you to follow your best path? Ultimately, it comes down to you asking yourself, 'Am I following this person because they've inspired me to follow my best self or because I feel like I'm lacking something and I just want to get to where they are and be like them?' " - Steph Gaudreau "Too much inward focus can be really stifling for people and serve to force where we are not at. This is one of the reasons why positive affirmations don't work for a lot of people because our subconscious brain knows we're not there yet in our journey. Positive affirmations work for some people and not others but I think the point is that if we're too focused on 'we' but we don't ever consider ourselves, then we start to lose ourselves. Perhaps we start to not take care of ourselves because we're only caring for others before we put energy back into our own system. I don't know the right answer but I think we need to be fluid, flexible, and surrender or take a stand when necessary. - Steph Gaudreau "The biggest limiting belief that I run across with my female athletes is that 'I will get hurt.' It's crazy to me because I never ever hear this when I hear people talking to men. No one ever says to men, 'Be careful because you might get hurt,' yet the number of times I've seen someone say this to a woman is countless. Being physically active does not automatically cause injury. We need to take the ego of that idea; the ego is the most dangerous thing in the gym. Working outside of your limits, knowing you're outside of your limits, and continuing to push yourself because you want to keep up with everyone else is dangerous." - Steph Gaudreau Links From Today's Show Steph Gaudreau Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube WFR 016 Steph Gaudreau The Paleo Athlete by Steph Gaudreau The Performance Paleo Cookbook by Steph Gaudreau Harder to Kill Radio Podcast Harder To Kill Radio Episode 108 | Cellulite + Confidence: Fierce Love Friday Harder to Kill Club on Facebook Steph's post about cellulite on Instagram Angie Alt and Mickey Trescott of Autoimmune Wellness Stefi Cohen Gary Vaynerchuck Brené Brown Tim Ferriss Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek WFR 070 Tony Federico WFR 132 Christine Hassler About Steph Gaudreau Steph Gaudreau combines a formal education in biology / human physiology (BS Biology – Human Physiology), 12 years of science teaching experience (MA –Education and National Board Certification), holistic nutrition training (Certified Holistic Nutrition Practitioner), and an unabashed love of tasty Paleo food (human with taste buds).
