Do you struggle with consistency? We are continuing our conversation in-depth about ending the cycle of self-sabotage. This episode is explicitly talking about the behavioral pattern of inconsistency. Do you find yourself inconsistent with your work, your marketing, your health, your finances, or your fitness? We're going to dive a little deeper into this specific behavior. So, what does it mean to be inconsistent? It means you are not staying the same throughout. However, you can't be the same version of yourself throughout life; you learn too much, you acquire too much information, and you make changes. So, it’s essential to recognize that staying the same is an unrealistic standard that you're not going to meet. Inconsistency also means acting at variance with one's owns principles. For example, if one of your principles is drinking more water, yet you find yourself drinking soda – you are acting inconsistently on your principles. Well, inconsistency is just a behavior; it's a behavioral pattern that we want to shift. When we are inconsistent, it is just a habit. To shift away from being inconsistent, we need to understand why we have this behavior. Why do we allow ourselves to get so distracted so quickly? Once we know this, we can make the shift. What are you running away from? In this series, we have three more episodes to talk about the five different degrees of self-sabotage. So far, we've covered people-pleasing and perfectionism. In this episode, we're going to talk about avoiding and distracting. If you're just tuning in to this series, I highly recommend you go back and make sure to listen to ending self-sabotage for real parts one and two. Often, when we find ourselves playing the game of procrastination, we identify ourselves as weak or something is wrong with us. However, that's not the case. Self-sabotage is just behavioral patterns that are playing out. Remember, they don't serve us anymore. When we can think of them in that way, they become less emotionally charged and easier to transform. So, let's dive into avoiding. An avoider is a person who actively keeps away from not doing something. The keyword in this definition that I want to highlight is “actively.” An avoider is usually consciously aware that they're in avoidance. Now, that's important because there is a significant distinguishing difference between avoidance and procrastination. Procrastinators often aren't aware that they're procrastinating because they're stuck in a behavioral pattern. They're doing behaviors that will keep them away from something, whereas avoiders come from an emotional charge - it's more of a reaction. What do you do when you feel lost? We have four ideas on how to make your seasons of purposelessness more purposeful: Allow yourself space to heal and explore. Too often, we try to fix it or dismiss it. In reality, that’s our defense. However, it’s not our truth. We need to pivot and change the way that we think and feel. Separate your worth from your work. Pain will emerge in the purposelessness season. We will think we are lazy or we are failures. It’s easy to feel worthy when you are working because you get a lot of satisfaction. Know the difference between business and distraction. Find joy in this space. We feel heaviness in the purposelessness season. It’s hard to find joy in this season. However, it’s exactly what we need to do to feel purposeful. Trust the process. When we face hardship, it feels all-encompassing; we forget that it’s a season. We don’t allow it to become a season because we attach it to our stories. We should allow it to be a fleeting experience. What’s holding you back from joy? I am sharing with you the eight biggest myths that are holding you back from having a tremendous amount of joy. All of these myths have something to do with forgiveness. Why? Well, forgiveness is the gateway between where we are and how we want to feel. So, let’s get into the eight myths that we need to break through to truly have forgiveness freedom: Myth #1: I must forget. Myth #2: I can only forgive if they apologize. Myth #3: By forgiving, it makes what happened okay. Myth #4: We have to wait to feel forgiveness in order to actually forgive. Myth #5: Forgiving means I have to have a relationship with that person. Myth #6: With time, I’ll just get over this. Myth #7: Victims shouldn’t have to forgive. Myth #8: Forgiveness requires vulnerability, and vulnerability equals weakness.
