I've been working with a client recently who has made phenomenal progress, but she's still terrified of certain "treat foods." It's a common fear—we think if we let the chocolate or the crisps back into the house, we'll immediately lose control and undo all our hard work.In this episode, I'm talking about why your favorite foods often carry more emotional baggage than a bad breakup. We dive into why the problem was never the food itself, but the "jobs" you've been giving it to do.In this episode, I cover:Why looking healthy doesn't always mean someone is achieving it in a healthy way.The "Domino's Trauma" and how specific takeaways can become self-sabotage anchors. Why "blanket bans" on food are a short-term fix that keep you feeling like a helpless child. The strategy for reintroducing trigger foods when you are in a positive, balanced place.Building a "new bank of evidence" that you can actually control yourself around chocolate. How we give food too many jobs to do—from carrying our emotions to rewarding us for surviving the day.The truth about why you overeat chocolate (hint: it's not the sugar). If you're tired of feeling like you can't trust yourself in your own kitchen, this episode is for you. If you find it helpful, please take a second to rate the show on Spotify or Apple Podcasts—it helps me reach more people who are stuck in this never ending cycle.Send me your question or feedback

Our earliest psychological blueprint is mediated by an attachment to a primary caregiver. We internalize their moods, attachment styles, and internal struggles to create a foundational bond. To heal this early wounding, we must operate from the right hemisphere of the brain, yet modern culture has shifted so heavily toward "left-brain" dominance, which comes at the cost of genuine intimacy. To bridge this gap and create lasting relationships, we must consciously pivot back to this relational center, allowing us to release emotional baggage inherited from infancy. By moving beyond these internalized patterns, we cultivate the emotional agility required to sustain healthy relationships in our increasingly disconnected world. To explore how to release emotional baggage, Harvesting Happiness Podcast Host Lisa Cypers Kamen welcomes therapist and author Jessica Baum, LMHC, back to the program to unpack her life's work. Jessica clearly defines the four human attachment styles and the relational process to create lasting, healthy relationships. She shares core principles from her book, Safe: An Attachment-Informed Guide to Building More Secure Relationships, along with how those principles can be utilized in today's modern, often isolated world. Parents carry their past into their parenting, often without realizing it. In this episode, I sit down with relationship therapist and author Eli Harwood to talk about how emotional baggage forms, how it quietly shows up in the way we respond to our kids, and what it actually looks like to break those patterns in real time. We get honest about triggers, shame, defensiveness, and the parts of ourselves we learned to tuck away long before we ever had children. Eli breaks down how emotional inheritance works, why our bodies react before our brains catch up, and how to shift from reactive parenting to connected parenting. This isn't about perfection or never getting activated. It's about noticing, pausing, and choosing something different so our kids don't have to carry what we never had support for. If you've ever wondered, “Am I passing this on?”, this conversation will help you see the patterns with compassion and give you tools to change the story. Today, I want to share something that might just change the way you move through emotional pain forever. It's one of my favourite tools — something I've used personally and shared with countless clients over the years — because it's that powerful.   It's called The Letting Go Letter.   And no, it's not just another journaling exercise. It's a sacred emotional detox — a way to literally set yourself free from the weight of all those unspoken words, unexpressed feelings, and old hurts that quietly clutter your heart.   Because let's be honest… We all carry things we wish we could release. A fight that never got properly resolved. A relationship that ended badly. A person who hurt us — or maybe even someone we hurt, and never forgave ourselves for.   And while time might dull the sting, those emotions don't just disappear. They sit quietly in the background — influencing how we feel, how we show up, and even how we connect with others.   But here's the good news — you can let them go. And this episode on I Love Me The Podcast will show you how.   You can take a peek at the full episode show notes (and resources I refer to in the show) here: https://gettingnaked.com.au/2026/04/08/89-the-letting-go-letter-how-to-free-yourself-from-emotional-baggage/     Resources…   Ep.88 Hurt People, Hurt People — Until They Heal. https://gettingnaked.com.au/2026/03/25/88-hurt-people-hurt-people-until-they-heal/   One-on-One Intensive https://gettingnaked.com.au/intensive/   Remarkable Relationships program https://gettingnaked.com.au/remarkable-relationships/   About me…   Hi, I'm Tamra Mercieca, a Self-Love Therapist, Women's Pelvic Health Guide, and host of I Love Me The Podcast. For 20+ years I've been teaching people worldwide how to heal depression and anxiety naturally, strengthen pelvic health, and cultivate radical self-love.   In 2011, I founded Getting Naked, an online school offering resources and programs that help people strip away limiting beliefs and childhood conditioning so they can feel confident, connected, free in their bodies and able to love and accept themselves unconditionally.   Alongside being a mum, wife, tea lover, and drummer, I'm qualified in more than a dozen holistic healing modalities. I've written two books, been published worldwide (print, TV, radio, etc), and often share my passion for self-love, mental health and pelvic wellbeing at yoga and spirituality festivals.   My own journey began when I learned how to overcome suicidal depression and anxiety without medication. From that, I created a ten-session self-love therapy program that now helps others do the same.   On the podcast, I share personal stories, tools and science-backed down-to-earth practices for emotional healing, women's health, and living with more joy and freedom. May you feel more whole and more complete, by simply tuning in!   If you'd like to read my full love story and bio - including all my credentials - head to https://gettingnaked.com.au/tamra/   Contact…   Website: https://gettingnaked.com.au/    Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gettingnaked/   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RelationshipQueen/   Music written by Tamra Mercieca and Grey Milton. Did you know that your heart has a brain? In fact, there are more connections running from the heart to the brain than from the brain to the heart! (Think about that for a second.)We've all heard the expression "dying of a broken heart." It may sound hard to believe, but the phenomenon is quite real. Unresolved emotions like grief, anger, or fear can quietly build pressure in the body and contribute to issues like high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems, and worse. The hidden strain of emotional pains of the past affect the physical health of the heart, taking a toll over a lifetime of real and imagined stressors. Your emotional health is a direct input into your physical health. So before you ignore your body and reflexively say "I'm fine," now is a good time to take a deep breath, check in with yourself for a moment and ask, "how do I feel in my heart?"When we're hurt physically or emotionally, our body and nervous system naturally engage guarding mechanisms. In the wild, injured animals withdraw from socializing and normal tasks and hide until they're healed. But in humans, the fight, flight, and freeze response can go haywire. Our fragile nervous systems face a constant barrage of unnatural, overstimulating modern stressors that eat away at our health, vitality, and sanity. When natural healing processes are interrupted, we can develop subconscious maladaptive patterns of avoidance, isolation, and lack of connection. This incomplete healing can feel like you're not fully alive or not fully present, yet also completely overwhelmed. (After getting my bell rung pretty good recently in a hit-and-run car wreck, I can say I've been there myself.) After a lifetime of struggles, you might not feel not quite so free, open, and alive as a child chasing butterflies in the backyard. So how can you create the life you dream about when your energy is being drained by the emotional baggage? How can we build profound connections with people we care about if our hearts are shuttered behind protective defensive emotions? The paradox is that pain and struggle actually shape us into the people we're meant to become. Some even call it the human condition. This week's guest offers that our trials may even serve a divine purpose. No matter what life has in store for us, the good news is that the human body has a remarkable (and often miraculous) ability to heal. This week's guest has helped millions of souls across the world do just that.
