Jake Thurm has been named one of the “Best Young Teachers in America” by Golf Digest for three consecutive years. His students will tell you why. Jake's instruction offers a unique combination of physical and mental guidance, customized for each student and informed by technology and analytics. He never gives the same lesson twice. A fundamental tenet of Jake's instruction is that no two players swing precisely alike. Because of this, he works to understand the unique biomechanics of each student. Data allows him to assess and not guess. Then, he tailors his teaching to help his students discover their most natural and effective swing. The Chicago native draws on his deep knowledge of the game as a former all-conference golfer and protégé of legendary instructor Dr. Jim Suttie, as well as from his background in clinical psychology. The result is an innovative mind-body approach that has earned accolades from PGA Tour winners, including Kevin Streelman, James Hahn, Dudley Hart, and Chip Beck. Jake has worked at over 100 PGA Tour events, including all four major championships, and appears on the Golf Channel as an expert commentator.Jake is highly regarded in Chicagoland golf circles as Midwest Director for the USA Junior National Golf Team and Nike Junior Golf Camp Director at Fresh Meadow Golf Club in Hillside. He also operates golf schools at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont and is on the Master Staff at Club Champion in Willowbrook. Whether working with PGA pros or promising young players, Jake identifies a common trait in all his students. “They are serious players passionate about improving their game,” he says. “When that's the case, I'm equally passionate about helping them. And I know I can.”Support the show

Eric Lindquist's 3M Open 2023 picks and best golf predictions this week.
In this episode I got to chat to Jake Thurm. Jake is not only one of the smartest coaches in world golf but also one of the busiest as he coordinates success in all age groups of the game and indeed from all levels. From guiding junior players success as a director of the Midwest section and coach of the USA Junior Golf Team to working with many tour players like Kevin Streelman, James Hann , Mark Wilson and indeed Champions Tour players like Tim Petrovic he really covers all the coaching bases. This podcast covers such a wide variety of subjects and we start with Jakes background and some of his thoughts on club golfers and how they can improve both through asking maybe the right questions and also monitoring how they treat themselves on the course. We discuss one of Jakes specialized areas in Ground reaction forces and that maybe the goal move of LARGER force creation that club golfers are looking for is actually the false idol of grfs and we should be more focused on the sequence…Lastly for the club players we discuss some distance work that Jake has done with his champions tour players Tim Petrovic which has added some 13mph to his cruising speed which I a am sure we would all like… For the coaches we also go into GRF's and how Jake educated himself by trial and error and going to the source to get the answers to his questions. Also for the coaches the start of the podcast highlights Jake goals and process as a coach which I found so much clarity in. We chat the standards lessons that Jake learned form his mentors and the attitude to embrace challenges as educational opportunities. Before we start the show….For the most part my guest have been well known to me and indeed their range of accomplishments so I am in a position to guide my guests to discuss and educate us all on experiences I feel are relevant or quote educational opportunities… Halfway through recording this podcast as I learned more about Jake I initially felt I had slightly cheated you all out of a better experience by not directing the questions better or maybe not being prepared enough. When listening back in editing however I realised that perhaps what makes Jake one of the most impressive people to chat too his is passion for what he does. His true love for golf is evident however its his love for people, both coaches and students, that shines throughout his words… perhaps people like Jake who's goals are like the great Butch Harmon once said to teach people to golf and not golf to people…. Perhaps those individuals are better left with no q notes and no guidance and to just be themselves…Jake Thurm is one of the most educated, intelligent, well spoken, thoughtful and exciting coaches I have met throughout my years and if you don't know him you are about too… All the way form Chicago with the #1 draft pickLadies and Gentlemen Jake Thurm

It’s another 1990’s throwback, this time to 1993 NBA Jam. Augie was heating up after two weeks of consecutive winner calls - and now he is on FIRE hitting his THIRD consecutive winner! Uncle Stu on the other hand was cold as ice. But just like this week’s commute, a little cold never scares him. Stay the course. Stu and Augie start by recapping their 2019 Pools (one and done) after the Pebble Pro-Am. After picking big Phil Mickelson, Augie is now 3 for 3 in calling winners between the two pools. Uncle Stu missed the cut with what was supposed to be a “lock”…such is the life of a gambler, and time to DOUBLE DOWN. In the “easier” league – Augie jumps to top third after (did we already mention) a THIRD consecutive successful winner call. Hopefully you guys are listening and following the leader here, FAT WALLET ALERT! In the “complicated” league – 7 of 8 of our combined work horses made the cut. Unfortunately Augie decided to play Jason Day 2x, instead of using Phil Mickelson 1x in the big league. Homer Simpson moment – D’OH! Stu gives updates on his personal bets, but it was not a pretty week. His dark horse Kevin Streelman didn’t pay - but pulled in a sneaky T7 finish. Uncle Stu is prowling….and he’s honing it in…..he’s got another two dark horses lined up for you this week. Both going off at 90:1 odds - be sure to listen in - and place your $$$$ BETS $$$$!
Kevin Streelman, 2014 winner of the Travelers Championship, speaks to Yahoo Finance’s Dan Roberts and Myles Udland before this year’s tournament. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Then he developed a local following and then designed courses all over the globe. He fell in love with his own image and designed more and more difficult courses because he thought that was what architects were supposed to do. Then he realized at the age of 50 that play ability and fun are more important for the game. Holly talks about two new 18 hole courses in Florida designed by Chris Wilczynski. One is the Esplande Golf and Country Club of Naples. Both courses are currently open to the public as the developer sells lots and houses to residents with golf memberships. Holly also talks about a reversible design golf course by Tom Doaks, Forest Dunes. Play clockwise one day then play counterclockwise the next day to play two different courses.

Todd says that Tiger wasn't looking very sharp at his practice round on Wednesday. This is more of a tune up for Tiger to see where his game is but it also helps his foundation by him playing. Holly asks Todd about Streelman's seven birdie streak on the back nine to win the Travelers. Todd shares that Kevin is not worried about numbers defining him but how he is as a father and a husband. Todd also talks about Michelle Wie's first major championship victory. He and Holly talk about how much Michelle has matured over the past few years. Beth Ann Baldry (Nichols), Golfweek, calls in to the show and talks about Michelle Wie and her tour of the Big Apple and the big media blitz Tuesday. Beth Ann talks about how eloquent Michelle was with the media and how it seems like the weight of the world was lifted off of her shoulders now that she has won a major championship. It takes a toll on anyone's body. Holly asks about Tiger's hunt for Jack's record on major championship. Vartan says it is not as easy now as there are a lot of great players and young players out there who can compete with Tiger for these major championships. Holly asks Vartan about the Champions Tour and how well they play week in and week out. Colin Montgomerie, Fred Couples, Kenny Perry, Bernhard Langer, and many more. Vartan is in Pittsburgh for the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. He says that much like the weather at the World Cup for USA vs Germany on Thursday a lot of rain in the forecast. Host Holly G and Rich B are in the studio talking about their recent match at Errol Estate Golf and Country Club in Apopka, Fla. They are starting a Thursday night golf league with times from 5-6:30 p.m. The duo talk about Tiger's victory over Kevin Streelman, Jeff Maggert, David Lingmerth and Sergio Garcia at the The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra, Fla. Todd Lewis, The Golf Channel, calls in to talk about The Players Championship. Todd feels that the story that people will remember is the tit-for-tat between Woods and Garcia. But friction adds to the drama. What happened motivated Tiger Woods. Holly asks Todd about Garcia's decision to tee it up again at the 17th after he hit his first shot in the water. Todd also recounts Garcia's inability to accept the blame for how he plays. Sergio has tremendous upside at 33 and Todd feels like he is maturing but also has to realize he hasn't lived up to what people expected him to become. Holly also talks to Todd about Tiger's errant shot on 14 and how it allowed a lot of players to get back into the hunt. Whether the shot was proper and improperly dropped the ball. Casey Wittenberg said it was the correct place. Rich B also talked about Casey's responsibility to watch his competitor and he did just that. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in to talk to the Golf Insiders about all the news in the world of golf. "It was a heck of a golf tournament, his 4th win of the year." Bob feels that the win is overshadowed by the nonsense that has surrounded Sergio's complaint about Tiger pulling his club as Sergio hit his shot. Bob doesn't feel that Tiger was intentionally trying to interrupt Sergio's shot or pull gamesmanship. Bob also echoed Todd Lewis' comments that Casey Wittenberg told Tiger where to drop the ball, which was his call to make. Bob feels that a lot of liberty is taken on a weekly basis with the drops that follow a water hazard. 740 The Game presents The Heathrow Open set for Jun 17 at Heathrow Country Club for $55 per player. The 2-person scramble will be the Monday after the U.S. Open. Call 407-842-1452 to sign up. Jeff Shain, PGA Tour.com, calls in to wrap up the show and talk about the HP Byron Nelson Classic in Texas. Jeff feels that Jason Day may do well since he has played well over the past few times. Marc Leishman is the other person who intrigues Jeff this upcoming week. Holly and Jeff talk about the field for the HP Byron Nelson.
Holly G and Rich Bianco are in the studio talking Florida Swing. This show is sponsored by Barberpolegolf.com, manufacturers of world-class solid brass putters. The duo take time out to salute Arnold and Winnie Palmer and all the events surrounding this week's tournament. The win gets him into the Masters and many other great tournaments. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in from the Bay Hill press center to start of the show talking about Kevin Streelman's first PGA Tour win at the Tampa Bay Championship. Boo Weekley playing Aldila's latest RIP iron shafts posted his best finish of the season in second place. Both Justin Leonard and Sergio Garcia both played well this tournament too. A lot of focus this week at Bay Hill is on Tiger Woods who is playing well of late and has won there 7 times. He went from 58 to number 2 in the world golf ranking last year in a seven months. Bob feels that it is remarkable that Tiger is on the cusp of becoming #1 again after everything that he has been through including 4 different swing coaches. After the Bridgestone in 2010 where he played so poorly, he got with Sean Foley and began his trek back to the top. The only other player to win as many tournaments as Tiger in the past year, 5, is Rory McIlroy. Bob spoke to Tiger about The Masters and not winning at the Masters since 2005. Tiger wants to win all the majors and Bob feels that maybe last year Tiger wanted it too much. Darren Decarlo, the Perfect Golf Club owner, and PGA Professional and teaching professional, calls in to talk about marshaling at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Pro-Am. Darren feels that Tiger is the odds on favorite to win at Bay Hill. Holly and Darren discuss Tiger's swing change since he has been with Sean. Darren bases his picks off the Pro-Am and these players played well at the Pro-Am Wednesday, like Brandt Snedeker, Tiger, Ernie Els. Gary Smits, Florida Times Union, calls in from Bay Hill to speak with Rich and Holly G. Breaking News reports that Yani Tseng missed her Pro-Am time Wednesday and got kicked out of the tournament this week. The two also talk about Tom Watson giving back one of the 4 Captain's picks for the 2014 Ryder Cup. Watson feels that it is a great thing that there is one more spot that could earn the spot now. 3 of the last 4 major winners are in the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week, minus McIlroy. Palmer said that he was disappointed that Rory did not come to his tournament. Holly G and Rich B gave away two tickets to the caller who can identify how many times Tiger has won at Bay Hill. Jeff Shain, PGA Tour.com, calls in to wrap up the show and talks about the injury to Brandt Snedeker muscle pull. Brandt did well at the Pro Am Wednesday at Bay Hill, second place which is not bad for coming off the "injured reserve." Jeff talks about the shape of the golf course and how the rain has helped it. Jeff is anxious to see how Boo Weekley will fair this week. The last two tournaments he finished 8th and then 2nd.
