We're back this week with a legend in his own right. Sean Avery sits down with us to talk about…well, a lot. It's always promising when a Guest comes on and says they don't want to be doing this Podcast right now. We took lemons and made them into lemonade, and this episode is truly a favorite. We open up with Sean, talking about his son, Nash. Apparently, Nash has a knack for the game of golf. How couldn't he? He's getting lessons from George Gankas. The episode turns from us asking a question to Sean asking US questions. We dive into the difference between forged and cast irons. We get into talking about Hybrids and why most people don't use them. When Sean asks us if Scotty Cameron still makes the best putters, we acknowledge they're good but pro-Bettinardi over here. How he handles this is hilarious. The episode turns over into more talk about golf, life after hockey, and what he's into these days. We finish up the episode with our standard Tap-IN segment presented by Bettinardi Golf. Tune in now and listen to this episode that will undoubtedly keep your attention from start to finish! Welcome back to another edition of The Golf Clan Show. In this episode, Stevo leads the boys in discussing recent changes to their swings. The Tour Championship at East Lake provided a lot of drama down the stretch and Q Money cannot believe the relief Rory received on the last hole. The boys address recent updates in the LIV Golf development including the statement put out by Harold Varner III. We hope you enjoy our latest episode of The Golf Clan show and if you do, a rating and review would be tremendously appreciated.
In this episode I got to chat with George Gankas who my mind is one of the top coaches of our generation. I don't think anyone has moved the needle more in how golf coaching is delivered all the while backing it up with an in depth understanding of human movement and golf dynamics. His ability to create distance for players across the board has made him a guru of sorts and numerous tour pros and elite amateurs throughout the years, including Sung Kang, Matt Wolff, Adam Scott, Padraig Harrington and many more have sought him out. For this podcast we were a little time poor so the conversation moves and develops along some changing lines for the 35 odd minutes. We discuss briefly George's work and thoughts on the mental game, having awareness or flow and how developing those skills has helped him assist his players through their own struggles on the course. We chat briefly about his ever-growing training aid collection and website and the challenge of creating an program that would reflect his patterns and techniques accurately. There is some talk about golf terminology and Butch Harmon as well as what he feels should be a priority in Golf Coach learning… All in all this was a really fun and very interesting conversation with one of the worlds best golf coaches.. Lastly, I hope for everyone listening to this to someday get the opportunity to meet George. When in his company you get to see a person who truly loves what they do and genuinely cares for all those who come in contact with him. Too often we see people with immense talent in a discipline nearly use it to distance themselves from the also rans and George is the complete opposite…. As I mention in the podcast I believe as talented as he is in swing, his true skills lie in how he treats other and the example he sets.Website: www. georgeganks.golfTraining Aids: www.gankassports.com

GRQotW29 Are you permitted to watch a video on YouTube (say George Gankas or Me&My Golf) during a round to obtain swing tips? This caught a few, as like me, I would have assumed this wouldn’t be permitted, but Rule 4.3a(3) & (4) only restricts information gathered during the round. What is allowed is using information that was gathered before the round, such as swing tips. But consideration to other players and no delaying of play unreasonably. Genesis Invitational Patrick Cantplay-Fast embedded ball in bunker On the 6th hole at the Genesis Invitational, the affably-known ‘donut’ hole, because there is a bunker in the middle of the green, Patrick Cantlay’s tee shot is embedded in the lip above the bunker. A referee is requested and Patrick is taken through the relief process. Wind stops play - https://youtu.be/VBHfHo6tzf8 During round 3 of the Genesis Invitational, the wind was so strong that balls were moving on the green and play was suspended. It was certainly timely for some, but not all. DJ movable obstruction - https://youtu.be/mtP6YL6ACZY Easy ruling for DJ. So easy, he didn’t even require a referee, just picked up the utility box that was housing cables and moved it himself before pitching out sideways. Matt Wolff moves ball on putting green - https://youtu.be/RtmBmd8ddfs This is number one on my favourite rulings of the year so far. Matty Wolff playing in the WGC Mexico (played in Florida), accidentally taps his ball sideways on a practice swing when his ball is at rest on the green. It doesn’t count as a putt because Matt had no intention of hitting the ball, and thus the ball was replaced for no penalty. Background Bingo Ep 29 Rossco Yakgarra Blakey Kalgoorlie Can you guess this weeks? IVOR’s Contributant Wittering Levitating or elevating The meaning of ‘Lost’, as in lost ball. GRQotW 30 After the player hits their ball into the green, it stops and comes to rest on the green. As the player is walking up to the green, suddenly the irrigation system turns on and water runs across the grass, down the green and moves the ball. Does the ball need to be replaced, or is the player permitted to play it from where it is now at rest? We start off with the GolfRules Question of the Week answer for Episode 28 Are you permitted to use rock-paper-scissors as a legitimate way of determining who plays next in a match, if you are unable to determine who is furthest from the hole? Yes, rock-paper-scissors is a random method that can be used. Other random methods can also be used, like a coin toss, or you could throw an iron in the air and see which side up it lands - face or back. Alternatively you could just agree for one player to play. Blakey had an interesting story when he was called in as a referee for the Charley Hoffman vs Brendan Steele match at the Dell Matchplay in 2018. We were inundated with Rule 9.4 rulings this week at the AT&T PGA Tour event at Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill golf courses. Firstly during Round 3 - Maverick McNealy https://youtu.be/iZ_eKA2SFWs And then on the first hole during Round 4 - Russell Knox https://youtu.be/yM4DmT7K-wk Both players were penalised one stroke, although the exact same ruling wasn’t given by the referees at the time. Russell’s was handed to him after playing the 4th hole. We cleared up an email question from Jwonghen, and encourage everyone to send in emails for questions they want to know the answer to. If the lie of your ball is altered, are you permitted to place the ball closer to the hole? And if your ball won’t come to rest after you place/replace it, how far away can you then move your ball to get it to stay at rest? Say it was on a steep slope. Rossco and Blakey reminisce on the 25th anniversary of the famous golf movie - Happy Gilmore. It certainly has brought golf shops a lot of business from those who try to replicate the famous swing - including Blakey. Blakey has created the video scenarios, and has promised a re-release, and a whole podcast episode dedicated to Happy Gilmore imbroglios. The Background Bingo’s were discussed with Andrew Millar back on top of the podium, guessing both Spyglass Hill, and Craigielaw golf courses. This week will be a little trickier for all punters, but both are in Australia. Like so many dedicated PGA instructors, George Gankas spends 5 days a week, 12 hours a day, on the practice mat helping juniors, beginners, and Tour pros alike improve their swing mechanics and maximize their performance psychology. Except George never went through the PGA program. He's completely self-taught. George Gankas is doing swing instruction on his own terms, and that's exactly why I knew I had to have him on the podcast. Fortunately he agreed to meet, and thankfully there was 1 open hour left in his schedule the week I was passing through town. Not long ago he reluctantly took a friend's advice and posted a couple short clips of his instruction on Instagram. Today, his account @ggswingtips has more than 44k followers. It's not just because his teaching methods are unorthodox. He's not buying fake followers either. He's so popular because his students get results, and they get them faster with George than with anyone else. For those who love breaking down the golf swing, swing theory, angles and lines, and Trackman data, this podcast is for you. In fact, a buddy of mine, "Fish" from FishFit Golf referred to him as the "Happy Gilmore" of golf instruction. But I don't want you to get the wrong impression. This doesn't imply that George is a newbie on the scene disrupting the sacred game of golf; Quite the opposite, in fact. George is a definite student of the game, but he brings tons of personality to his instruction, which is why I see the "Happy Gilmore" connection as a huge compliment.
