In this first series of podcasts Sally talks about the things that went wrong in her life and what she did to change them. She moves from a place of unconscious, random wandering to finally being at ease, doing work she loves and finding her vibe in life. The first series of podcasts reflect the journey Sally made, the conversations she had with herself and how this helped her change, learn more about herself and grow out of the old behaviours and into a life that was more robust and healthy.

In the conversation this week Sally talks about what is real and what is not. As she goes to the fun fair and is confronted with multiple reflections of herself in one of the attractions, she wonders whether she dare step through into a parallel world? Sally ponders here about knowing how and when to choose the best route through choices and paradigms that present themselves to us. In this conversation Sally is unscripted and tells a story about her ChiGong training. This is a tale of the simple exploration of energy, and a conversation about not making life too complicated. Ultimately Sally realises that she lets her head make life more difficult than it needs to be, and that whilst she sits on her little wooden chair in her ChiGong lesson the simplicity of it all is made very clear to her. In this episode Sally slightly changes the way she presents her conversation. Firstly she reads a story - Alchemy Between the Sheets. In the conversation that follows the story she explores what it feels like to write and live from a place of sexual aliveness, from a pulse that connects to the ultimate act of creation - making life. She makes a connection between the creative energy that she uses when writing and links this to her daily life. The process feels both liberating and also a bit scary - after all Sally is revealing a softer part of herself that is usually reserved for more private settings. On the other hand desire is something we all have, and it feels important to start this conversation. Why not listen on to hear more? In this conversation Sally talks about finding her voice. Her journey takes her back to her childhood and early memories of not being listened to, and her experience of learning not to speak, voice her opinions, wishes and desires. The journey moves from childhood to more currently, and to a pivotal moment of self realisation and power. With the use of five small words Sally transforms her life, and begins her journey to self realisation and awareness. What happens? What does she say? And what does she learn along the way? In this conversation Sally talks about the art of being the observer, and uses the metaphor of a river to demonstrate the futility of trying to hold on to and name every single life experience, thought and action that happens in life.Instead she offers the idea of remaining on the river bank, letting the river flow freely in front of you and just observing as it all goes by. Wouldn't life be easier, less stressful and more relaxed if we could all remain the observer in life, rather than getting dragged in to the river of life? Why not listen to find out what she has to say? Sally has created a series of interviews with women called “What Women Know”. Her aim was to create a space in which women shared their wisdom for the benefit of others. She asked different women if they would like a chat over a cup of tea, set up a zoom call and the recordings here show what happens when women get together. As part of the What Women Know series of podcasts Sally talks to Helena Roth about her latest book, Doing Gentle with an Edge. They discuss what it means to move from being highly self-critical, to loving life and yourself and Helena shares some of the tools she has used along the way. This is an uplifting conversation, showing how it is possible to consciously look at yourself and to make a choice to stop being negative and to channel your energy into creating a positive and self supporting life ethos. About Helena“ Helena Roth would not be where she is today if she hadn't learned how to be and do gentle towards herself. Engaged in a variety of work assignments and creative endeavors that baffle onlookers who fail to see the common thread: she is an agent of change at heart who strives to make a positive imprint wherever she goes, whatever she does, however she shows up. A resident of Malmö, Sweden, Helena is the proud mother of two children who are rapidly approaching adulthood. Playfully seeking out adventures, in summer she's found with fingers deep in the soil of her garden, in winter braving the cold, skinny dipping in the ocean. Doing Gentle is her latest deep dive into her creative output”. Connect with her at tankespjarn.com.Helena's book Doing Gentle with an Edge is available via her website and as an ebook on Amazon. In this episode Sally explores questions: why do we have questions, what do they mean and what happens if we try to get to the answer too quickly. Using children as examples ofwhat happens when you can stay in the question, stay in a state of wonderment, what joy and playfulness this can bring us. She wonders whether, as adults we could learn from children and reflect some of their state of curiosity into our state of being?Listen on to find out more. In this latest episode, cataloguing her personal development, Sally asks herself the question, “what would I do if I knew I could not fail?". This apparently simple question raises issues around her fear of failure and perfectionism. Sally is confronted with how much more she could achieve if she were gentler with herself, and less critical and realises that her fear is holding her back more than she realises. This podcast retells her journey through her awareness of her fear of failure, what she learns and how she slowly becomes more confident and willing to put herself out there, try new things and get over her procrastination. It is a tale of self-discovery, exploration and eventual triumph. Why not listen to find out more? Today Sally talks about storytelling and the importance it has to bring us closer together. When we share our realities through our stories others can understand us better and maybe even see themselves in our story and understand themselves too. The gift in stories is the shared humanity that is often echoed within the words, enabling us as readers and writers to connect to each other across the pages. This episode is part of the ‘What Women Know' series. In it I reminisce about what I learnt from my mother and also connect to the generations of women in my family who went before me. This conversation with myself is essentially an ode to my mother ,Pauleen. It also touches on the the significance of mothering. What might we teach our children when we are not even aware of it? How much might we be teaching our chidlren, with acts and words that may seem insignificant in the moment? I discuss in this podcast the importance of some of the things I learnt from my mother. Whilst I acknowledge that much of our relationship is far from rosy I am also able to express gratitude for the good things in our connection and how they sustain and help me in my current life. This feels like a good place to be. Why not listen on to find out more about what I discovered about my relationship with my mother and what I learnt from her? Someone once asked me how much of myself is in the stories that I write about. And the answer is that there is always something of me in what I share. Today I am talking about an actual realisation that occurred whilst I was folding laundry. In our house I have given up the battle of matching socks – they always seem to go missing between the laundry basket, the machine and reappearing again in the basket. We have been wearing mismatched socks for years and it does not seem to matter. The battle of the socks has become a metaphor in this podcast for a shift in mindset for how I approach the mundane and ordinary tasks that fill my life. Instead of seeing them as a battle I also have the chance to shift my mindset, and to see them as a way of showing love for my family. My realisation has been when I change my perception of what I am doing, I also change the energetic intention around it, and ultimately the effect of what I am doing changes too. Someone once asked me how much of myself is in the stories that I write about. And the answer is that there is always something of me in what I share. Today I am talking about my work, and take a different stance, one that might be seen to be more political, which challenges the norm and is potentially more complicated. As I write this, I also acknowledge that I have colleagues who are dealing with intensely difficult situations in their schools and communities. Where the basic human needs of housing, safety and food are not being met for the children. I can imagine that for these teachers to hear me go on about the being teacher is nonsense, because there are too many fundamental issues they are dealing with in their classes that need to be in place before we can deal with the higher emotional and psychological needs in human development. However, I know I also have colleagues who are able to hear this message. And as you hear me say very often in the podcast…… imagine…………… Maybe we can take this moment to imagine a different way of being as a teacher. Of course, this message goes beyond a particular job, we could all potentially relate to the idea of bringing a state of being-ness to our work – and that is ultimately the invitation here. Curious? Would you like to imagine a different way? Listen on to find out more. In this episode Sally explores the ideas we attach to physical and energetic space. She discusses how we can connect to both spaces and in doing so practice the art of being in the moment. She says that in taking care of her needs she is able to take care of others from a place of fullness and health. "There is nothing wrong with this level of self-care", Sally says.Ultimately the core questions are: where do you thrive and what can you do to make sure you get to that sort of space and stay there? There is nothing selfish in taking care of your needs. If you are not sure of the wisdom of this, why not listen in and find out more? Sally recently got an email about one of her podcasts, the person said how lovely it was to hear Sally being really herself. This prompted Sally to wonder how much of what she says is actually her?. She does a lot of editing to make her podcasts professional sounding and she edits out all the hiccups, weird noises, and mistakes. Does that make her voice less her? Less real?Following on from the original question about the truth in her voice, this episode also explores issues about how much Sally's voice might be muted by societal expectations of what women should say, or not. Ultimately, Sally decides that the most important thing is to use this space to speak and let her voice be heard. She decides that she is Woman, presented here in her fullness and that she is proud of what she sounds like.Do you dare to be fully yourself? What does your authentic voice sound like? In this episode Sally talks about getting older and how this has impacted on her relationship with herself, society, and the world at large. She discusses how as she gets older, greyer, more wrinkly and rounder she has also become wiser. There seems to be a connection between age and wisdom and with an increase in years this impacts on how she is in the world and how she explores and sets and communicates her boundaries, wishes, ideas and much more. Ultimately, Sally says that see sees the invisibility of the silver haired generation as a benefit. As she becomes invisible to others she becomes more visible to herself and experiences greater power and strength in the process, and this is something she never had when she was younger. Her experience is echoed by famous silver haired women in the public eye – all of whom seem to celebrate a freedom that comes with getting older and no longer having to conform to the social constructs set up to define women. © Soul Purpose Communications 2020www.soulpurposecommunications.com My book, "Conversations with Myself. In this episode Sally talks about time and how it can sometimes appear to pass incredibly quickly and on other occasions crawl by like lazy snail. She talks about watching her children grown up and realising that years have gone by without them really seeming to make an imprint and she wonders what she did with the time. Did she really use it and honour it? Or did she squander it?As Sally celebrates another birthday she is also reminded that another year has passed, and she reminisces about her experiences over the last year.Ultimately she proposes that time could be infinitely bendy and flexible, and that if we could stay truly in the present we could live in a magical world where time stood still, and we would never have to worry about not having enough time. Why not spend some time with Sally now, listen in and see what you think of her idea? Sally has created a series of interviews with women called “What Women Know”. Her aim was to create a space in which women shared their wisdom for the benefit of others. She asked different women if they would like a chat over a cup of tea, set up a zoom call and the recordings here show what happens when women get together. As part of the What Women Know series of podcasts Sally talks to Mayke Vullings about what she has learnt in her life. What is important to her, how she has changed over the years and what her approach to life is. We hear Mayke talking about letting go of labels and being free enough to dance to your own rhythm, regardless of what others think.Listen on to find out more about what we discussed in our time together. She asked different women if they would like a chat over a cup of tea, set up a zoom call and the recordings here show what happens when women get together. The original idea for the What Women Know podcasts came about as I talked to my cousin about our nan. In sharing stories and reminiscing we discovered that we had both been profoundly impacted by her presence in our lives. We thought that there must be other women who also had stories to share, so the idea came to life. I love that this series of podcasts was born from the wisdom of my Maudie, my nan, inspiration to many. Today I talk to my cousin about our nan, a woman of strength and resilience who showed both of us how to be women and to stand up for what we believe. There is a lot of laughter in this episode as we re-live shared history and sad sadness as we honour a woman who followed her convictions, but who is no longer with us. This episode is based on an experience Sally had with her daughter years ago. You will hear her recount a story that is based on a packet of crisps. As mundane as this may sound Sally uses the experience to show how important it is to listen and to ask questions, rather than assume you know the answers.Sally talks about deep listening, listening with empathy and dropping your own questions so you can really hear what someone else may be saying or asking for. She talks about listening to her daughter, and how when she listened further than the initial situation she found out important things she had not known before and how in doing this she learnt to build bridges of trust and communication. She continued to listen to her children, and today as they are about to fly the nest they still all know the importance of stopping, asking a question and listening to what the other says.Listen on if you want to find out more. Someone once asked me how much of myself is in the stories that I write about. And the answer is that there is always something of me in what I share. Today I write about something that inspired me whilst I was reading a book by Dawn French. Today the topic I deal with is perspective. I talk about how I can gain more understanding of a situation merely by looking at it from a different viewpoint. Just as we can change our view of the TV by moving to a different place in the room, so we can see life situations differently if we change our perspective, see them from someone else's viewpoint, for example, or drop our judgement. Here I offer a perspective that may help you find a way to take the heat out of arguments or tense relationships. Someone once asked me how much of myself is in the stories that I write about. And the answer is that there is always something of me in what I share, this episode is an example of something intensely personal that happened about ten years ago.No one ever expects to say that they have run out of money – especially when they are a parent, house owner and supposedly a responsible adult. But this is exactly what happened to me.In this episode I relive the time that I ran out of money, explore the reasons for it and recount the way that I recovered, rebuilt and carved out a new life and new business for myself. Why not listen on to find out more.
