Roots of Change Podcast Episode 102: When the Symptoms Are Visible but the Truth Is HiddenA healthcare executive had been told for months that a rural facility couldn't keep staff because of the labour market. When Diane Gudmundson went directly to the community, she found something completely different. There were people available. They just wouldn't apply. Because in a small town, word travels. And the word about that workplace had been travelling for a long time.In this episode, Diane walks through what she actually found on the ground, how that information was altered at every level before it reached the executive, and what it reveals about one of the most dangerous gaps in healthcare leadership. The gap between what the data shows and what is actually happening with the people inside and around an organization. She also walks through the specific questions patient-centred leaders ask differently, and why going to the ground is not a soft leadership approach. It is the most sophisticated intelligence work a healthcare executive can do.If you are a senior healthcare leader and this resonates with your organization, send Diane a direct message with the word ROOTS, and she will share the next step.Secure your copy of Rooted to Rise: The Rise of the Patient-Centred Leader: www.dianegudmundson.com/rtrbookBook an Identity and Life Purpose Consultation: https://calendly.com/dianegudmundson1/initial-1-1-45-min-identity-life-purposeTo book a call for your organization, email Diane directly at support@dianegudmundson.com

Roots of Change Podcast — Episode 101 — The Advocate who needed one....I spent twenty five years fighting for patients the system had decided were too complicated, too risky, or simply too inconvenient to deal with. And then the system came for me.In this episode, Diane Gudmundson tells the story she has never told quite this directly before. After decades of fierce patient advocacy, she found herself on the receiving end of a regulatory authority that demanded psychiatric assessments, skill assessments, and multiple courses, then ignored every reference, every assessment result, and every piece of evidence she submitted. The investigations kept coming, each one more disconnected from reality than the last, until she understood clearly that this was no longer about truth. It was about a system using power to silence the person who had been most loudly advocating for the people it was failing. This episode is about what happens when power stops listening and starts protecting itself. It is about the cost of speaking up in systems that prefer quiet. And it is about why that cost is never a reason to stop advocating for the people who need it most.Because you cannot build a patient-centred system on a foundation that punishes the people who are most patient-centred.This episode connects directly to Diane's book, Rooted to Rise: The Rise of the Patient-Centred Leader, now available for presale.Secure your copy: www.dianegudmundson.com/rtrbookBook your Identity and Life Purpose Consultation: https://calendly.com/dianegudmundson1/initial-1-1-45-min-identity-life-purpose

This is episode 100. And it is the episode Diane Gudmundson has been building toward for thirty years. In this milestone episode, Diane tells the complete origin story behind the Roots of Change doctrine, the method, and the movement. She shares what she witnessed across thirty years as a nurse and nurse practitioner working from the ground up, including a woman dying in pain because a system everyone called excellent had left a gap nobody was tracking, clinics turning patients away because they were too complicated, families left without support in their most desperate hours, and what she perceived to be a regulatory authority making decisions that resulted in hundreds of vulnerable patients being abandoned. She shares the fury that lit a fire in her that has never gone out. The decade she spent searching for the patient-centred leadership she experienced in her very first nursing job and never found again. The moment she walked away from the system to find the root. And why she believes that LISTEN is not a soft skill. It is the only thing that will transform healthcare from the inside out. This episode is the origin story of everything. The book, the doctrine, the method, the movement, and the conviction that power must be responsible enough to protect the people with less of it.This episode connects directly to Diane's book, Rooted to Rise: The Rise of the Patient-Centred Leader, now available for presale.Secure your copy: www.dianegudmundson.com/rtrbookBook your Identity and Life Purpose Consultation: https://calendly.com/dianegudmundson1/initial-1-1-45-min-identity-life-purpose

Roots of Change Podcast: Patient-Centred Leadership Has Nothing to Do With Being LikedA formal complaint from a patient's family landed on a leader's desk. He read it. And then he did nothing. Not because he missed it. Because confronting the staff member involved felt harder than looking the other way.In this episode, Diane Gudmundson shares what it felt like to watch that unfold as a member of that team, what it cost the people who were holding themselves to standards every single day, and what it revealed about one of the most misunderstood patterns in healthcare leadership: the difference between being liked and being safe to work for.She also names the superpower every clinician who became a leader already has and most have stopped using. The ability to deliver hard news with care. To hold someone accountable without abandoning them. To have the conversation nobody wants to have because the patient's dignity depends on it.Patient-centred leadership is not about keeping everyone comfortable. It is about having the courage to protect the people counting on you, including the ones watching to see what you do next. This episode connects directly to Diane's book, Rooted to Rise: The Rise of the Patient-Centred Leader, now available for presale.Secure your copy: www.dianegudmundson.com/rtrbookBook an Identity and Life Purpose Reading: https://calendly.com/dianegudmundson1/initial-1-1-45-min-identity-life-purposeWatch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ccrsXpsmQmAListen on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/roots-of-change-from-survival-to-success-with-diane-gudmundson/id1569230453

Roots of Change Podcast — Episode 98 — The Excellent OneThe most dangerous leader in healthcare isn't the one who yells or makes headlines for being cruel. It's the one everyone calls excellent. In this episode, Diane shares two real stories, growing up under an impossible standard of perfection, and her first nursing job under a Director of Nursing whose constant need for control quietly drained her team's confidence and judgment. Diane traces how both lessons shaped her own early leadership, including the mistakes that came with it, and what she eventually learned was the opposite of what she'd believed all along.A live diagnostic masterclass is coming soon, a real look at whether your organization and your own leadership are running on control instead of trust. Watch for the announcement, or send Diane a direct message to be one of the first to know. This episode connects to Diane's book, Rooted to Rise: The Rise of the Patient-Centred Leader, now available for presale.Secure your copy: www.dianegudmundson.com/rtrbookLearn more about Diane's work: www.dianegudmundson.comWatch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/3XLbsKg6M28

At eight years old, Diane was driving a grain truck on her family farm, alone, with a machine that could take an arm in a heartbeat. In this episode, she shares that true story and traces the exact pattern it built in her: a fear of mistakes, an inability to stop, a belief that needing help made her weak, and how that same pattern followed her through twenty-five years in nursing and straight into leadership. She talks about why these early patterns don't disappear once we grow up, how they quietly run leaders into the ground, and why naming them is an act of gratitude toward who we used to be, not shame. This episode connects directly to Diane's upcoming book, Rooted to Rise: The Rise of the Patient-Centred Leader, now available for presale.Secure your copy: www.dianegudmundson.com/rtrbookLearn more about Diane's work: www.dianegudmundson.com

The tighter you grip, the more you lose.In this episode of Survival to Success, I open up about one of the scariest decisions of my life — walking away from a secure nurse practitioner job to launch NP on Wheels. Identity always wins.In this episode of Survival to Success, I pull back the curtain on the biggest lie high achievers have been sold. I share personal stories from my own health journey, career, and business to show why white-knuckling your way forward never works — and what actually creates lasting transformation.

If you're anything like me, you have realized that our food supply contains a lot of toxicity Seemingly common every day foods that we eat on a regular basis, can trigger inflammation, and much toxicity in our physical body, leading to poor energy, disease, pain, and so much more. I worked in the medical field for over 25 years, so I understand why doctors don't pay attention to nutrition, because they're just not trained on digging into root causes for dis-ease in the body. I am so passionate about transforming health and I have created an eight week reset program to help people to become aware and to reset their health for the long term. The last two episodes, I've been talking about perfectionism, and some of the deeper causes of this… And as we work through Change and some of the deeper subconscious changes, it can lead to anxiety where we are blind to the cause. This episode, I talk about why Change at a deeper level feels so difficult and challenging and unsettling… And why we feel deeper emotions, such as irritability, low mood, and impatience… I've had this experience myself! I talk about how it's important to manage emotions to accept them, allow them to go and flow away and leave us in a peaceful place… Versus having them build up and leave a person with bigger problems over time! Be curious… Take the time to listen and you may see some of yourself in what I'm talking about here! Last episode, I talked about how to know if you or someone else has an issue with perfectionism or what I call “the never enough cycle”. If you have not listened to that episode, I recommend you go back and listen. In this episode, I talk about my story with perfectionism, and how I wore the mask of rejection, my whole life up until a few years ago when I finally became self-aware! It is not uncommon to be blind to the deeper things like this that are going on in our subconscious mind! This episode, I talk about my story, and how perfectionism played out in all areas of my life and then I talk about ways to manage this to get over it and transform your life! Be sure to listen and apply this to your life, or to the work that you do with your clients! Be curious! Have a listen, and you may be surprised how it will apply to you!

Have you ever been told that you need to slow down and do less? Do you find yourself focussing on doing things exceptionally well and sometimes spending so much time on things? Do you feel that you need to plan things to be sure what the outcome is going to be ahead of time? Do you tell others… I'm not a perfectionist, I just like things done, right! Or. “I am not hiding, I am just a private person!” So many of us are blind to the perfectionism or what I call the never enough cycle that is residing in our subconscious mind… having a huge impact on our lives, and we maybe don't even realize it? Are you having procrastination, irritations, anxiety or pain? Listened to this episode to see for yourself if you might be caught in the never enough cycle or with some people call perfectionism. It can be very subtle, but once you actually see it in your self, it can actually become quite obvious and a huge aha moment like I did for me!! Your curiosity is now piqued and you need to go listen to this episode! Many of us, including me, get caught up in the cycle of helping others and over giving and over giving at our own detriment. So why do we do this? Listen to the podcast and I will discuss why we need to put our own needs first and what is running in the background that is actually self-serving and what to do about it? I also tell you about my own story of learning to put myself first. This episode is where I begin to answer the many questions coming about plant medicine and Ayahuasca specifically. The latest question was about self awareness and how that may be impacted by Ayahuasca and why that is important. Thanks for being here! This episode was inspired by the many questions I received after recording episode 56 where I talked about being reborn and the use of plant medicines. I took some time to answer the common questions being asked, and I also share some aspects of my own experiences with Ayahuasca. As a result of the extensive interest, I'm putting together a thorough program about Ayahuasca that I will be posting online over the next few weeks, so please feel free to email me or DM me on social media if you have any questions or if you'd like to get on the list for this program Contact: Email: support @dianegudmundson.com Instagram @dianegudmundson FB: Facebook.com/athleticgrandma FB: Facebook.com/NPautonony Websites: www.dianegudmundson.com Www.survivaltosuccess.ca

In this episode, I talk about what is it about commitment that actually makes a difference in our life? The curious part is that it includes the law of reciprocity where we need to be for ourselves first before we can be for others… It's a very interesting law, and it applies to everything. Learn more from listening to the podcast by what is happening when we spend our time committing to other people and what that might really mean about ourselves.and our intentions. This episode is a continuation of episode 53 where I talk about my wild ride, moving from Canada to Mexico, and having a Kundalini Awakening. Here, I talk about moving forward in the flow and using ayahuasca and my inner power and guidance. This led me to experience apprenticeship with a teacher in Peru, which was most incredibly powerful experience and taught me a lot about plant medicine. I talk about my story here and how I feel like I was completely re-born again on January 4, 2023, after being on a hiatus and off grid for more than two months, Thank you so much for listening and please email me or DM me on social media anytime with questions or comments.
