Welcome to The Meat Medic Podcast. I'm your host Dr Suresh Khirwadkar. I'm a GP, Board Certified Lifestyle Physician and Functional Doctor. I help my patients improve their health by focussing on diet, nutrition and other lifestyle changes, and I made this podcast to reach more people and share how to become masters of their own health. In this podcast we discuss all things related to diet and nutrition and how you can improve your physical and mental health by following the key principles of healthy living. All of the information is thoroughly researched by myself, as well as drawing on over 20 years of experience and training. I am a Specialist GP as well as a Board Certified Lifestyle Physician, and I have quite extensive training in nutrition having studies with ASLM, IBLM, ACNEM and Diet Doctor. I work extensively with diet and nutrition in my practice, and use it to help people with a vast array of issues. My focus is on holistic care, preferring to avoid medication prescriptions where possible and instead utilising lifestyle interventions to restore health and balance. My real passion though is helping people to help themselves. I'm a huge believer in educating my patients and empowering them to prevent and treat chronic diseases themselves. My goal is to get to the point where my patients never actually need me. Then my job is done.

12 Months on Carnivore Diet: Unexpected Outcomes & Why I Quit - Ep 72

Welcome to another episode of The Meat Medic Podcast. Today, I share a candid review of my 12-month journey with the carnivore diet. As a doctor who embarked on this diet to address chronic health issues, I found significant benefits but also faced unexpected challenges. In the early stages, the diet resolved issues like joint pain, chest pain, and IBS, leading to a remarkable improvement in my overall health. However, around the six-month mark, the positive effects plateaued and new concerns arose, including nutritional deficiencies and a concerning increase in insulin resistance and chronic stress response. This episode delves into the complexities of dieting, the importance of listening to your body, and the realisation that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't apply to nutrition. I experimented with reintroducing certain foods, which led to insightful discoveries about my health and the impact of oxalates and carbohydrates.I'll also discuss the implications of my blood test results throughout this journey and introduce the concept of the primal fusion diet, a balanced approach I've devised based on my experiences and patient data.Whether you're a carnivore diet enthusiast, a skeptic, or somewhere in between, this episode offers a nuanced perspective on dietary choices and their long-term effects on health. Join me as I explore the lessons learned, the changes I've made, and why I believe in a more flexible dietary strategy moving forward. For more insights and to join the discussion, visit primalfusiondiet.com.Remember, these are my personal experiences and results. Your journey may differ. Always consult with a healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes.#CarnivoreDiet #HealthJourney #DietReview

Dr. Nelum Dharmapriya shares the powerful and heartbreaking story of her brother's battle with stage 4 lung cancer and how it opened her eyes to potential adjunctive treatments like ketogenic diets.Dr. Nelum explains how her brother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in December 2021 despite having no history of smoking. He had multiple metastases to his brain that caused severe symptoms like dizziness and blurry vision. Though he was started on steroids to reduce brain swelling, he developed a severe manic episode likely due to the high steroid doses. After many challenges getting him proper mental health care, Dr. Nelum advocated for him to be hospitalised. Though his lung cancer had a specific mutation making it amenable to immunotherapy, he was not informed of potential complications like medication-induced lung disease which he tragically developed. Within 2 months of his initial diagnosis, he passed away from this immunotherapy side effect. This experience showed Dr. Nelum first-hand the gaps in conventional cancer care. She discusses emerging research on metabolic therapies like ketogenic diets and fasting which deprive cancer cells of glucose, their preferred fuel. The mitochondrial metabolic theory of cancer highlights the potential of these lifestyle therapies. Dr. Nelum argues they should be offered alongside conventional treatments to empower patients and potentially improve outcomes.Dr Nelum can be found @wholefoodrevolution on instagram and facebook
