Jon Evans takes the mic for a solo Tailoring Talk Magazine tech episode, looking ahead to Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 and asking the big question: can Apple finally make Siri matter again?WWDC26 may not be about a shiny new Mac, headset or surprise hardware reveal. This year, the real story could be much bigger: whether Apple can turn Apple Intelligence into something people actually use every day.Jon breaks down the rumours around iOS 27, macOS 27, Watch OS 27, Vision OS 27 and the future of Siri, including reports of a dedicated Siri app, chat-style conversations, searchable history, favourites, Dynamic Island integration and a darker visual redesign. There's also discussion of whether Apple could allow users to choose third-party AI services such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini as defaults for certain Apple Intelligence features, and why that would mark a fascinating shift for a company built around vertical integration. The episode also looks at Apple's wider AI challenge. Apple has the hardware, software, chips, privacy story and ecosystem advantage, but Siri has spent years feeling behind the competition. If Apple can make Siri genuinely conversational, context-aware and useful across apps, Apple Intelligence suddenly starts to make sense. If not, WWDC26 could feel like another “wait until next year” moment. Also covered: iOS 27 refinements, Genmoji, Image Playground, AirPods settings, Google Cast in the EU, macOS productivity potential, Apple Watch health features, Vision Pro, Apple TV, the smart home and why new hardware may be minimal or absent at this year's keynote. In this episode, Jon covers:Apple WWDC26 and what to expect from the keynote Why Siri may be the biggest story this year Rumoured iOS 27 features and refinements Apple Intelligence and third-party AI model choice ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Apple's AI position macOS 27 and why AI may matter more on the Mac Watch OS 27 and future health features Vision OS 27 and the future of spatial computing Apple TV, HomePod and smart home speculation Why WWDC26 may be light on hardware Whether Apple can make AI feel private, personal and usefulTimestamps / chapter markers00:00 - Why WWDC26 may be Apple's AI reckoning 00:20 - Welcome to Tailoring Talk Magazine 00:38 - WWDC26 date, keynote and platform updates 01:00 - Is this Apple's AI comeback moment? 01:12 - The big Siri overhaul rumour 01:42 - A dedicated Siri app and chatbot-style conversations 02:10 - Can Siri become genuinely useful? 02:28 - Dark Siri redesign and Dynamic Island integration 02:40 - Third-party AI models inside Apple Intelligence 03:18 - Apple's vertical integration meets the AI race 03:42 - iOS 27 as refinement rather than reinvention 04:10 - Genmoji, Image Playground and AirPods settings 04:32 - AirPlay alternatives, Google Cast and EU regulation 04:50 - macOS 27 and Liquid Glass refinements 05:20 - Siri and Apple Intelligence on the Mac 05:48 - Why AI could be more useful on Mac than iPhone 06:02 - Watch OS 27 and Apple Watch health updates 06:30 - Could AI turn Apple Health into a coach? 06:53 - Vision OS, TV OS and Apple's wider platforms 07:22 - Vision Pro and spatial computing's next step 07:44 - Apple TV, smart home and the need for better Siri 08:10 - Why WWDC26 may not be a hardware event 08:26 - Future hardware hints versus actual products 09:00 - Foldable iPhone, touchscreen Mac and smart display speculation 09:20 - Apple's generative AI problem 09:48 - What Apple Intelligence has done so far 10:12 - Why Siri is the missing piece 10:38 - What Jon thinks Apple will actually announce 10:50 - Siri gets the biggest stage time 11:05 - Apple Intelligence becomes more modular 11:22 - iOS 27 as an AI-refinement release 11:38 - Why macOS 27 could be the most interesting update 11:52 - Why hardware will probably be minimal 12:08 - The real WWDC26 question: can Apple make AI useful? 12:28 - Are you excited for smarter Siri? 12:42 - Like, subscribe and closing thoughts Hosted on Acast. What if your new patient visit didn't start with a 200-page ER record dump, scattered portal logins, and a patient saying "I think mom had some kind of cancer"? In this episode of My DPC Story, Dr. Maryal Concepcion sits down with Anna Smith, RN, MPH, CEO of Vivid Vault Health Solutions, to talk about a patient-owned, multi-generational health navigation platform built to strengthen the physician-patient relationship, not replace it.Anna shares her realization that healthcare collects massive amounts of data but rarely puts it in patients' hands in a way they can actually use. That moment became Vivid Vault, a bootstrapped, non-VC, non-PE-funded platform designed to help families consolidate records across generations so DPC physicians can finally practice with the comprehensive, portable patient story we've always needed. Big Trees MD is an early adopter, and Dr. Concepcion walks through exactly why.If you want to give your patients a comprehensive, portable, patient-owned record system without adding another six-figure EMR to your stack, book a leadership call at vividvaulthealth.org or email together@vividvaulthealth.org. Download the Vivid Vault app in the Apple Store starting April 22. If this episode moved you, leave a five-star review on Apple Podcasts. What You'll LearnWhy fragmented records cost DPC physicians time, accuracy, and patient retention. How Vivid Vault works as a health navigator, not a new EMR or added workflow. Why multi-generational, family-linked records matter, and how permissions, proxies, and minors are handled. How PROMIS assessments give physicians insight between visits. How wearable data (Apple Health, Oura, WHOOP, Garmin, Dexcom soon) is timestamped and clinically usable. Why patient-owned data is non-negotiable and what happens if a patient leaves your practice or the platform. How LLM-assisted review surfaces what matters in a 200-page ER packet without replacing clinical judgment. Why B2C with a DPC practice discount keeps the financial burden off clinics.About Our GuestAnna Smith, RN, MPH, is the CEO and founder of Vivid Vault Health Solutions, a Colorado-based, bootstrapped health navigation platform. Her background spans bedside nursing, public health, medical records administration in cardiology, and patient advocacy. She is a mother of three and builds alongside a leadership team whose lived experience, including parenting a heart transplant recipient, shapes every design decision.ResourcesFind the Vivid Vault app in the Apple App store today!Website: vividvaulthealth.org (scroll to bottom right and click "Schedule with Leadership") Email: together@vividvaulthealth.org Connect with My DPC StoryStart Here page for every stage of your DPC journey: mydpcstory.comSupport the showGET your FREE MONTHLY BUSINESS TOOL DOWNLOADBecome A My DPC Story PATREON MEMBER! 194: Should Apple Be Worried About Gemini Intelligence?

Play Episode Listen Later May 15, 2026 42:41

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss Google's latest wave of announcements for Android and Gemini, the newly announced Fitbit Air, and Apple Watch Series 12 rumors. The centerpiece of Google's announcements this week was Gemini Intelligence, Google's new umbrella platform for AI across phones, watches, cars, and laptops. Its headline capability is cross-app automation: users can photograph an event flyer and ask Gemini to find tickets on Expedia, or pull up a grocery list and have it build a cart in a shopping app. A companion feature called Create My Widget lets users describe a home screen widget in natural language and have Gemini generate it, drawing from Gmail and Calendar to build a personalized dashboard.Google also unveiled the Googlebook, a new laptop category designed from the ground up around Gemini with partners including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo arriving this fall. Gemini in Chrome for Android gained an agentic browsing layer rolling out end of June, and Android Auto received AI-generated contextual replies and DoorDash voice ordering. A Meta partnership brings Ultra HDR, native stabilization, and night mode to Instagram on Android flagship devices. In January, Apple and Google announced a partnership under which Gemini would power the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, including a more personalized Siri expected this year. Apple's equivalent cross-app ‌Siri‌ actions were announced at WWDC 2024 but have not yet shipped; Gemini Intelligence is rolling out this summer using the same underlying technology.Google also unveiled the Fitbit Air this week, a screenless fitness tracker priced at $99 that ships on May 26. The device weighs just 12 grams with the band and tracks heart rate, AFib, HRV, SpO2, and sleep stages in a pill-shaped pebble with no display, no buttons, and no notifications. Battery life lasts for seven days, with a five-minute fast charge delivering a full day of use. A Stephen Curry Special Edition is priced at $129, with core tracking free and Google Health Premium adding an AI Coach for $9.99 per month after a three-month trial. The launch accompanies a broader rebrand. The Fitbit app becomes Google Health on May 19, with Google Fit folded in, Apple Health data supported on iOS, and APIs for Garmin, Whoop, and Oura. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported earlier this year that Apple has scaled back a comparable Health+ coaching service, with the feature now unlikely to launch. The Apple Watch SE starts at $249 and requires daily charging, and the Fitbit Air's $99 price with no mandatory subscription addresses a segment Apple does not cover. We also discuss the Apple Watch Series 12, which is shaping up to be an incremental upgrade. Bloomberg's Mark Gurmansaid in March that he does not expect any major design changes, and a significant redesign is now not expected until 2028.The leaker known as Instant Digital said this week that Touch ID, which appeared in leaked Apple code last year, has been deprioritized in favor of battery life improvements. DigiTimes previously reported an eight-sensor array on the back of at least one 2026 model, though blood pressure monitoring is said to be further out. A new chip is expected, with leaked code indicating a meaningful upgrade from the S10 used across the last three series, and watchOS 27 will be previewed at WWDC on June 8. Start your business with Shopify and get everything you need to sell online and in person. Lindquist Dental: Where No Child is Turned Away Due to Inability to Pay

Lindquist Dental Clinic for Children has been a Tacoma institution since 1936. Even so- Move to Tacoma Podast host Marguerite Martin admits on-mic she didn’t fully understand what they do until she sat down with Executive Director Carolyn McDougal-Weyrick at dinner this winter. Turns out a lot of Tacoma doesn’t know either. Lindquist sees kids from birth to their 21st birthday, takes essentially every insurance including Apple Health, Medicaid, Molina, Coordinated Care, Delta Dental, and TRICARE, and doesn’t turn anyone away for inability to pay. They see over 24,000 patient visits a year out of their Parkland location at 131st and Pacific, and they still have room to grow. Dr. Stephens walks through what makes the clinic different: six dentists, specialty services like oral surgery and endodontics on site, and a general anesthesia program she personally runs for kids ages 3 to 8 who need significant work done. Instead of six appointments, parents taking off work six times, and a kid who learns to dread the dentist, it’s one 90-minute visit. The kids wake up with their princess crowns intact and still want to come back. For income-qualifying military families on TRICARE Dental, Lindquist is the only place in the area that can waive the out-of-pocket and deductible costs entirely, which matters a lot when a family has four or five kids and a $1,300 annual cap per child. The conversation gets into something that many Tacoma area nonprofits are struggling with. Federal cuts to the programs that serve the most vulnerable people in our community. Medicaid cuts went into effect July 1, 2025, and Lindquist is facing roughly a $280,000 shortfall from what they expected. But Lindquist has a plan. They’re not cutting services, they’re growing their private-insurance patient base. Because when a family with insurance comes through the door, it directly supports the half-million dollars a year in uncompensated care the clinic provides. They just finished a $1M renovation funded entirely by designated facility grants and donor dollars, so the space is freshly renovated. 15 new chairs, digital nomad x-rays, a surgical suite. Come as you are, bring the kid you’ve been putting off bringing, and if you’ve got private insurance, know that showing up helps your neighbors and is part of how this model stays alive. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode covers: • Real Food Reset in U.S. Dietary Policy The new Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2025–2030 put real food back at the center of U.S. nutrition policy and take a direct swing at ultra processed foods, added sugar, and sugary drinks. Dave breaks down why this matters beyond personal dieting: these guidelines influence school meals, SNAP and WIC, federal feeding programs, and they shape what eventually shows up on labels and in public institutions. He also shares how biohackers can use this shift as leverage to push for better food environments in schools, workplaces, and hospitals. -Source: https://www.usda.gov/about-usda/news/press-releases/2026/01/07/kennedy-rollins-unveil-historic-reset-us-nutrition-policy-put-real-food-back-center-health • Drug Combo Extends Lifespan of Frail Old Mice by 73% A new aging study found that combining oxytocin with a compound called A5i extended the remaining lifespan of frail elderly male mice by 73%, while also improving function and tissue health. Dave explains why this is a big signal for the future of longevity medicine: stacking targeted interventions can outperform single compounds, especially when you start late in life. He also explains what to do with the idea right now: stop building random “everything stacks” and start thinking in phases, tracking outcomes, and waiting for real human combo data. -Source: https://www.futura-sciences.com/en/study-finds-drug-combo-could-slow-aging-and-increase-lifespan-by-73_23229/ • ChatGPT Health Turns Your Data Into a Health OS OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health, a dedicated health experience that lets you securely connect medical records and wellness apps like Apple Health and MyFitnessPal, so you can summarize visits, interpret labs, and prepare better questions for your doctor. Dave explains why this is a turning point for quantified self and protocol building: it reduces the friction of pulling data from five different places, and it makes pattern-finding accessible to nontechnical people. He also shares how to use it like a pro: clean inputs, smarter questions, and better doctor conversations. -Source: https://openai.com/index/introducing-chatgpt-health/ • Whole Milk Is Back in Schools The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act restores whole and reduced-fat milk options in schools, aligning school nutrition rules with the updated dietary guidelines that no longer treat full-fat dairy like a default villain. Dave breaks down why this matters for child healthspan: satiety and nutrient density drive behavior, learning, and metabolic stability. He also explains why this is a real-world policy experiment worth watching across school districts, and how it can open the door for bigger institutional upgrades like better protein and fewer ultra processed items. -Source: https://www.usda.gov/about-usda/news/press-releases/2026/01/14/whole-milk-back-president-trump-signs-whole-milk-healthy-kids-act • Tirzepatide Trial Targets Biological Age With Aging Clocks A registered clinical trial titled Tirzepatide to Slow Biological Aging is using multiple DNA methylation aging clocks as primary endpoints, along with functional metrics like grip strength and a 6-minute walk test. Dave explains why this is a big maturity step for longevity science: instead of assuming metabolic improvement equals slower aging, this study is measuring biological age directly, across multiple clocks, with performance outcomes. He also shares the practical lesson for biohackers: stop relying on one favorite metric and start thinking in panels, function, and durability of results. -Source: https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT07220473 All source links provided for direct access to the original research and reporting. This episode is designed for biohackers, longevity seekers, and high-performance listeners who want practical strategies rooted in cutting-edge science. Host Dave Asprey translates emerging research into actionable upgrades for your biology, from metabolism and food policy to AI-driven tracking, institutional nutrition, and biological aging measurement. Shoot us a Text.Episode #1238:  Ford is promising eyes-off driving by 2028. But back in the bays, finding top-tier techs is still a $160K challenge. OpenAI wants to be your new health co-pilot with ChatGPT Health.Show Notes with links: https://www.autonews.com/ford/an-ces-2026-ford-doug-field-panel-0107/“Eyes off the road” is Ford's new promise—and it's coming sooner than you might expect.Ford announced an “eyes-off” driving system launching in 2028, debuting on its new Universal EV Platform. The platform will support up to 8 affordable EVs, including a $30K midsize pickup.AI assistant coming to the Ford and Lincoln app in 2026 and vehicles like Expedition and Navigator in 2027.Ford is vertically integrating hardware and software to reduce driver-assist system costs by 30%.“Too many companies have outsourced the whole soul of their machines…we chose a more difficult task,” said Doug Field, Ford's Chief EV, Digital, and Design Officer.https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/the-160-000-mechanic-job-that-ford-cant-fill-fe6fd121?mod=autos_news_article_pos3Let's talk about the $160K Ford Mechanic Job No One Wants. Ford has 5,000 open service bay jobs, some paying over $120K. But techs say the path to get there is grueling and costly—with few making it to the top.Ted Hummel, a Senior Master Tech in Ohio, made $160K in 2025—but it took over a decade to reach.Entry-level techs often start under $10/hr and must invest tens of thousands in tools and training. The “flat rate” pay system rewards speed, not hours worked—but also means zero pay when work is slow.Physical strain is intense; many leave the profession due to injury before reaching top pay.“A bay with a lift and tools and no one to work in it,” said Ford CEO Jim Farley, calling it a nationwide crisis.https://openai.com/index/introducing-chatgpt-health/ChatGPT Enters the Health Chat: OpenAI is rolling out ChatGPT Health, a new experience designed to help users navigate health information more confidently—by connecting medical records and wellness apps securely to AI.Over 230 million people use ChatGPT weekly for health and wellness questions. The Health experience is separate from general ChatGPT chats, with extra layers of privacy and encryption.Users can link data from apps like Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and Function for more personalized advice.Medical info stays isolated within Health and is not used for training models.Built with input from 260+ physicians, it's designed to support, not replace, clinical care.“It helps you understand patterns over time—not just moments of illness,” OpenAI said in the announcement.Join Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/
