John Williams, London Symphony Orchstra [00:23] "The Desert and The Robot Auction" Star Wars 20th Century Records 2T-541 1977 Pretty much every aspect of this soundtrack is seared into my Gen X nerd mind. Silver Jews [03:15] "Advice to the Graduate" Starlite Walker Drag City DC55 1994 The debut outing from David Berman and friends, here including partners in crime Steve Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich, and even Steve West. There is also a lovely cover of this song by The Pastels (https://youtu.be/tQ1vuKAGmUo?si=y7G-DZUy094zyJUf) (recorded for a Peel session). Lena Lovich [06:30] "I Think We're Alone Now" Stateless Stiff Records SEEZ 7 1978 (1979 reissue) From the original UK Stiff Records release of Stateless, a very first-wave New Wave version of "I Think We're Alone Now", originally recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells. David Bowie [13:47] "Golden Years" Station to Station RCA Victor AQL1-1327 1976 (1986 reissue) Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick laying down the funky guitars. Sinéad O'Connor [17:46] "Some Day My Prince Will Come" Stay Awake (Various Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films) A&M Records B0029005-01 1988 (2018 reissue) The late great Sinéad O'Connor interpreting Snow White's ballad accompanied by the late great Andy Rourke from the late great Hal Willner. Willner was one of the most imaginative music producers, responsible for so many excellent tribute albums, and one of the most innovative music shows on network television: Night Music (https://youtu.be/ChPPW6NbsFk?si=AusrNnmpxTl4mWUI). Graham Parker and the Shot [18:55] "Wake Up (Next to You)" Steady Nerves Elektra 9 60388-1 1985 Graham gets all romantic in a Motown sorta way. This single made it as high as 39 on the Hot 100. Graham Parker and the Rumour [24:00] "I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down" Stick to Me Mercury SRM-1-3706 1977 Graham and company do a fine rendition of this song that was initally a hit for Ann Peebles (https://youtu.be/cyMsvE8UcbI?si=VqkTZdDF9ubuspVT). The Rolling Stones [29:35] "Dead Flowers" Sticky Fingers Rolling Stones Records COC 59100 1972 The first album the Stones recorded after being freed from their Decca Records obligation. Nadja [42:03] "The Stone" The Stone Is Not Hit by the Sun, Nor Carved with a Knife Gizeh Records GZH70 2016 As usual, more heavy dreamy goodness from one of my favorite duos. The first Friday of June means we have nothing but new releases on The Ledge, and it’s quite the lineup tonight. There are artists from all over the world, ranging from just a mile or so from my home (Thought Patrol) to Germany (Hamburg Ramones, Berlin Blackouts), with additional stops in Italy, Norway, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries). There’s the return of a ton of veteran artists, including Rancid, Graham Parker, The Aquadolls, and Joan Jett.  Most importantly, at least for me, is the brand new project by Tommy Stinson. Over the last few years he’s been touring with his pal Chip Roberts under the Cowboys in the Campfire moniker, and today sees the release of their debut album, Wronger. While a bit quieter than we’re used to from the former Replacements bass player, it’s still quite a record from the hardest working member of the legendary band.  Of course, we begin with the latest in the “52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks” series, and this time it is nt a new release. This version is from the French band Nouvelle Vague, an act that was created to remake classic punk and new wave songs in bossa nova versions. Yes, […]

On this episode of The Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman is joined by the band Futurebirds. The conversation takes a humorous turn as they discuss a recent incident with a redneck audience member who sprayed everyone. The group talks about how incidents like these are not uncommon in the music industry, and they joke about past incidents involving scat play and defecation on drum sets. As the interview progresses, the conversation shifts to the topic of boring interviews and how they can be made more interesting. The Aquadolls, members of the band, express their frustration with being asked the same generic questions about their genre repeatedly. They emphasize that the interviews should be fun and engaging, with unique and thought-provoking questions. Pipeman agrees, sharing his experience with interviews at festivals where bands are asked the same mundane questions. The group continues to joke and have fun, discussing how some band names can be difficult to pronounce, and how they enjoyed hearing the Aquadolls say their band name in a cool way. In this episode, Ted Stryker welcomes The Aquadolls to the Tuna on Toast studio! The Aquadolls are Melissa Brooks, Keilah Nina and Jackie Proctor. This is a band that's played Warped Tour, Lollapalooza and Ohana fest.    Why should you listen and watch this episode?  It's such a great reminder of how hard it is to be a young band, and, how fun it is to be a young band!   Learning of how this version of The Aquadolls came to be is a great story!    I love this episode because this is a group that is young and talented that I personally wanted to know who the hell they are in every way! There songs rule so much!   It's a wonderful get to know The Aquadolls podcast.   We learn where they are from, the history, and how they met.  It's all here!  The Aquadolls and Stryker discuss how these three musicians create their songs and the process they go through.   The band is a fan of No Doubt and Lady Gaga, and gives Olivia Rodrigo a ton of kudos.   The Aquadolls also detail how at some of their shows, there are those who cannot fathom that they are actually the band (three young women and a tour manager who is also a female)  This lead to them writing and recording the song "Suck on This".   The trio also revealed that they've been working with Fat Mike from NOFX including the song "Disappearing Girl".   The Aquadolls also talk to Stryker about life on the road, renting a van and packing everyone in a room or two. The Aquadolls tell Stryker the only people that drive the van are Jackie and Melissa (it's because the others aren't old enough)   Stryker and The Aquadolls also talk about their version of the holiday song...Christmas Wrapping. Both El Hefe and Fat Mike from NOFX and Angello from Fishbone played on the song.   You've been looking for a new band?  Well, here they are!  It was such a fun afternoon hanging with these three very talented and strong women.  Sit back and relax another great episode of Tuna on Toast with The Aquadolls.

This was Jaysea's 3rd time on the podcast. In her 1st episode, a teenager's guide to balance, we discussed how valuable her foundation, light, and tools would be as she navigates through life and things become more challenging.  It has been a gift to follow her growth and evolution into her new role and how her foundation and light were so important in her journey!! These young women are TALENTED, caring, smart, pro-active FIERCE FEMALES, and they ROCK !! Historically and unfortunately women have always faced unique challenges in the music industry.  The Aqua Dolls eagerly joined me for some powerful conversation about how to maintain balance, respect and sanity in hopes of helping anyone being mistreated in the industry for being their true selves! The energy of music is undeniably healing on SO many levels. Whether you're performing your own music, singing along, dancing, moshing, belting out songs in the car …it all feels SO GOOD! HUGE BONUS and honor - It was an incredible treat to have them perform 2 songs acoustic & live on the show!!! Shout out to Bram and Arden Rock Records for always providing a quality studio experience ...https://www.ardenrockrecords.com Check out all things AquadollsI promise you will be entertained !: The Aquadolls were founded in January 2012 by Melissa Brooks, the lead singer and songwriter for the band in La Mirada, California. Melissa began recording bedroom demos of her songs and eventually released We Are Free in early 2013, and then debuted her album Stoked on You in December 2014. After a brief break from releases, the stars aligned in July 2018 and the new era of The Aquadolls commenced with Jacqueline Proctor on drums and Keilah Nina on bass . The band grew as a powerful threesome leading up to the release of The Aquadolls highly anticipated second album, The Dream and the Deception, recorded and self-produced by Brooks and self-released October 28, 2018 on Aqua Babe Records. Following their sophomore album, they have self-released the single Suck on This in summer 2019, followed by their viral cover of Lash's Take Me Away in October 2020. In July 2021, The Aquadolls signed to indie label Enci Records and released their latest single Disappearing Girl. Having opened for artists like Pennywise, Kate Nash, Vivian Girls, and X, playing festivals with Weezer, Rancid, Cat Power, and FIDLAR, touring with White Reaper, as well as headlining North American tours and playing local California shows, The Aquadolls are in-your-face and good vibes all at once with energetic performances that leave you anticipating the next show. The Aquadolls pack a punch with tongue-in cheek lyrics, hard-hitting licks, and soothing vocal harmonies that will guarantee a head bang from anyone listening. https://the-aquadolls.com
