Hot take: the Japanese sci-fi series "Alice in Borderland" is a better version of Squid Game (and came out first!) Netflix's "Alice in Borderland" Season 2 dropped at the end of 2022 and we need to talk about all the wild things that happened. The show is centered around main character Arisu who's stuck in a dystopian world in which the majority of the planet has suddenly disappeared, and he and the other survivors have been thrust into death match-style games in order to fight for their lives. Season 2 ups the stakes, teasing a potential way out. Needless to say, this is a SPOILERS filled reaction episode, so if you have not seen the show and care about watching it for the first time, we encourage you to catch up on the series and then listen to this episode :) From what we think about the shocking ending, to pondering about how Chishiya's platinum blonde hair could stay so perfect the whole time, we talk about everything that jumped out at us this season. Hoppla! Wo sind denn alle hin? Eben waren wir noch am Bummeln durch die Stadt und auf einmal sind wir in so einer Art Parallelwelt-Limbus oder einer Simulation oder einem Alien-Experiment oder einer [insert random Fan-Theorie]. Ach! Ich weiß! Wir sind wieder im Borderland aus “Alice in Borderland” gestrandet! Nach gut zwei Jahren Pause hat's uns wieder in die Welt der Death Games katapultiert. Jetzt heißt's wieder: Überleben und das Spielkartenset voll machen und nebenbei ein paar der “Alice im Wunderland”-Referenzen abhaken. ACHTUNG! Ein nackter japanischer Rockstar! Nicht ablenken lassen! Zu spät! Alle tot! Na, egal. Umso mehr Zeit, sich noch mal an Staffel 1 zu erinnern. Haben wir damals hier recht brühfrisch besprochen und fanden die auch echt gut. Ein paar Jahre und vor allem die erste Staffel von Vorzeige-Death-Game-Serie “Squid Game” später müssen wir die ersten acht Episoden rund um Arisu und seine Freunde neu bewerten. Taugt die Einführung ins Borderland noch was oder hat uns die hohe Qualität von “Squid Game” zu krass geprägt, was Todesspiel-Live-Action-Serien aus Asien anbelangt? Und dann geht's auch schon inhaltlich wieder aufgefrischt in Staffel 2 und da gibt's doch einiges zu meckern - aber auch viel zu bestaunen. Unterm Strich ein kontroverses Paket mit coolen neuen Todesspiel-Prämissen, aber leider auch vielen seltsamen Entscheidungen der Autoren. Ach, Moment! Guck an, doch nicht tot! Der Typ mit dem Sturmgewehr hat uns zwar voll durchlöchert, aber war nicht so schlimm. Weiter geht's! Zeit für ein Duell!!!
