WARNING: This show has a running theme of discussions of oral sex all throughout. Because we're stupid. Don't listen if you're not old enough to buy an explicit album. Hi, everyone - we're back after what ended up being a VERY long April of... nonsense, to put it in a word. A break was needed and a break was had, and now we're back to our grind of anime... well, nonsense, again. But to come back after some time away, we have to take our time with the inundation of information on display, so this will be a bit of everything: the best and worst of the winter season (a month late), the announcement of STEEL BALL RUN being real, the Tenchi Muyo comic Kickstarter reaching its goal in barely any time at all, some free offerings on Pluto TV, the new Mamoru Hosoda movie getting BIG plans for its theatrical rollout, Toonami getting THINGS this coming weekend, and a good bit of home video releases coming out in the summer - including one very highly demanded release in the form of CHAINSAW MAN, AT LONG LAST, from... VIZ??? Because sure, why not? Also, yes, we're going to yell about the Crunchyroll Anime Awards nominations. Because it's easy pickings. intro - real-world kvetching and Sinners gushing 21:53 - the best and worst of winter ( 41:51 - once again, the CR Anime Awards nominees 1:30:15 - some news items of note (Steel Ball Run, Toonami additions, Tenchi Muyo comic Kickstarter, Scarlet/Columbia Pictures) 1:50:51 - a lot of upcoming home video releases (Anime Limited surprises, Wind Breaker, Call of the Night, Solo Leveling, Chainsaw Man) Tenchi Muyo Kickstarter - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/armigerentertainment/tenchi-muyo-original-omnibus-edition Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

(Spoiler Section Length - 18min 51sec) We've got another Mamoru Hosoda film on our hands, and just like all his other movies, we definitely never cried while watching or discussing it. This one touches on some very modern concerns, such as identity and perception in the digital age, while also using trappings from an older tale, Beauty and the Beast. The film also uses multiple animation styles, most prominently traditional animation and CGI. Does it all work together to make another engrossing Hosoda classic? Or does this one end up less than the sum of its parts? Listen to find out! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/howsitholdup/support

One Piece is a long-running series with many, many movies under its belt, both before and after this, and a legacy stretching over 25 years. Its creator is of course the inimitable Eiichiro Oda, whose sense of whimsy, adventure and iconic art style has won hearts and minds the world over. As the month of 'Ani-May' draws to a close. we asked the Patreons to pick from two Mamoru Hosoda movies, and this one won by a landslide (although it is only technically two-thirds a Hosada film...)  Paul, as you may know, is a big fan of Pokémon - and Digimon is another favourite monster franchise he grew up with and still embraces to this day. So this episode has Sophie attempt to experience his childhood, and try to figure out what is going on in this 3 part American mash-up in Digimon: The Movie!  As part of the conversation, we talk about Angela Anaconda, what other movies famously featured the All Star song by Smash Mouth, and Paul tries his best to explain the differences/mechanics Digimon offers as Sophie makes A LOT of Pokémon comparisons!  ------------------------------------------------------- Don't forget to follow us on social media in the links below, and let us know your thoughts and recommendations for the future!   instagram.com/sp_filmviewers twitter.com/SP_Filmviewers  letterboxd.com/SP_Filmviewers Rating and reviewing the show is a great help too! Support as little as $3 a month and have your voice heard!  Melanie joins Melvin to discuss Belle, Mamoru Hosoda's latest anime feature that combines real-life heart with the wonder of cyber-space! How well does he balance these ideas, and are we familiar with Hosoda's filmography? Tune in to hear that and more!  Topics: (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 38-minutes discussing our history with Anime, what we like and dislike about the style, and where we currently stand as purveyors of the medium (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)Mamoru Hosoda clearly has a fascination with the duality between the real-world and digital-world as observed through his filmography (several Digimon movies, Summer Wars, Belle).Melanie connected with the way in which Suzu found her voice throughout the story's progression. Both Melvin and Melanie enjoyed most of the music, specifically the first song.Melvin saw one of Mamoru Hosoda's previous narrative successes, Wolf Children, and seriously disliked the movie. He routinely gets hate-mail for his scathing review left on MyAnimeList. Some problems he remembers from Wolf Children he also observed in Belle.Belle has many duality motifs including the imagery of a whale, a sea-creature dependent on air, or the difference between online and offline personalities.Belle is comprised of three narrative beats; digital world and concerts, slice-of-life, and the beauty and the beast. How you connect with each of these aspects will greatly impact your enjoyment of the film.Getting into the controversial twist that more-or-less co-opts the movie during its third act. Both Melanie and Melvin take issue with the severe lack of resolution presented by the introduction of Belle's twist, apart from the fact it's also comparatively uncomfortable. There's this expectation online that people have a right to information or knowledge regardless of boundaries or privacy. Melvin appreciated Belle's passive critique against this idea.Melvin and Melanie go full script-doctor because we're a podcast and that's what podcasts do.Recommendations:Spriggan (1998) (Movie)Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999) (Movie)Support the showSupport on Patreon for Unique Perks!
