Europe – and the rest of the world – is currently undergoing profound change. The (geo)political landscape is shifting, raising questions about what Europe is. During the European Literature Night, we invite six authors from across the continent to reflect on what it means to transform.Europe will have to define its culture, its values and its future, a future that will hopefully be shaped and informed by taking into account as many voices as possible. It is the very reason the network of European national cultural organisations, EUNIC Netherlands, is inviting six authors from across Europe to De Balie in Amsterdam during Europe Day. In their work, these authors explore what transformation means, within literature, within society and within themselves.About the writers:Małgorzata Lebda (Nowy Sącz, Poland, 1985) is well-known as a poet, with six collections to her name. Among other major accolades, she won the prestigious Wisława Szymborska Award in 2022. Voracious, the winner of Empik's Best Newcomer in Poland and shortlisted for the Conrad, and Angelus and NIKE Prize, is her debut novel. Małgorzata Lebda is also a photographer and marathon runner. She is at the European Literature Night at the invitation of Polish Culture NL. Carolina Pihelgas (Talinn, Estonia, 1986) is an Estonian writer, poet, translator, and editor. Her collection of prose poems Valgus kivi sees (The Light within the Stone, 2019) received the Estonian Cultural Endowment Award for the best poetry book of the year. In 2020, she was appointed Tartu's City Writer Laureate. The author of seven collections of poetry published her first novel Vaadates ööd (Watching the Night) in 2022. The short novel The Cut Line is her second work of prose and her first work to be translated into English and published in February 2026. She is at the European Literature Night at the invitation of the Estonian Embassy in the Netherlands. Artem Chapeye (Kolomyia, Ukraine, 1981) is a Ukrainian writer, translator, reporter and traveller. As a translator of Mahatma Gandhi's texts and believer in non-violent political change, he took up arms and now defends Ukraine. He is author of both creative non-fiction and popular fiction. Four of Chapeye's books were shortlisted for the BBC Ukraine Book of the Year Award: Journey with “Mamayota in Search of Ukraine” in 2011, “The Red Zone” (his debut in fiction) in 2014, “Overrun” in 2015, and “The Ukraine” in 2018. He is at the European Literature Night at the invitation of the Ukrainian Embassy. Iulian Bocai (Oltenië, Romania, 1986) studied Comparative Literature at the University of Bucharest. He has a PhD in intellectual history. He has published five books and dabbles both in literature and nonfiction. His first novel, Ciudata și înduioșătoarea viață a lui Priță Barsacu (The Weird and Endearing Life of Priță Barsacu) won multiple national and international awards and came out in a Dutch translation in 2025 by Charlotte van Rooden. Before going into writing, he spent a decade translating mainly novels and children books from English, French and German into Romanian and has seen literature from both sides of the fence, working both as a writer and editor/translator. He likes writing better. He is at the European Literature Night at the invitation of the Romanian Cultural Institute for the Benelux. Amanda Michalopoulou (Athens, Greece, 1966) is the author of eight novels, three short story collections, a theater play and a novella. She has been a contributing editor at Kathimerini in Greece and Tagesspiegel in Berlin. She is a winner of the Revmata Award (1994), the Diavazo Award for her novel Jantes (1996) and the Academy of Athens Prize for her short story collection “Bright Day” (2013). The American translation of her book I'd Like won the International Literature Prize by NEA in the US (2008) and the Liberis Liber Prize of the Independent Catalan Publishers (2012). Her stories and essays have been translated into twenty languages. Her novels Why I killed my best friend and God's Wife, were short-listed for the ALTA National Translation Award in the US. Her short story Mesopotamia was selected for Best European Fiction 2018 (Dalkey Archive). She is at the European Literature Night at the invitation of the Greek Embassy in the Netherlands. Dmitrij Kapitelman (Kiev, Ukraine, 1986) came to Germany with his family at the age of eight as a “contingent refugee”. He studied political science at Leipzig University and graduated from the German School of Journalism in Munich. He works as a freelance journalist.

Haar droom? Geopolitieke omwentelingen laten allerlei nieuwe allianties ontstaan. Stubb noemt dit idee ‘a marriage made in heaven’. Hun Rudolf Thorbecke was diens tijdgenoot Lord Durham. Warm bepleiter daarvan was nota bene queen Victoria. Klaus Peterson is a founding partner at Apera Asset Management, based in Munich. Apera is a lower mid-market private debt investor that provides financing solutions to European SMEs and asset management services to investors. Apera focuses on the DACH region, the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries, France and Benelux.Apera is part of Franklin Templeton a global investment management organization with $1.5 trillion assets under management. Our conversation starts with Klaus's journey into finance and his early start as a lawyer, before he finally discovered private credit via a route of private equity. We then turn to the focus on Apera's business, which is in the lower middle market and stress the difference between this size of issuer and the larger issuers which tend to occupy private credit headlines. We move through some case studies - the good, the bad and the ugly - and Klaus shares how he learned to focus on the detail, to kick the tires, and emphasizes the importance of understanding investments and questioning assumptions, sharing a lesson learned from a printing business investment. We discuss some of the challenges facing private credit as it continues to grow in size, and then focus in particular on the German market, examining the risk profile of most institutional investors and their expectations when it comes to their credit portfolioslOverall, this is a unique deep dive into a niche area of credit investing that is often overlooked in the sweeping generalizations made about the mainstream credit markets. Abbie Fink talks with newly appointed PRGN President Frédéric François about his vision for the Public Relations Global Network throughout his term.Frédéric shares three key initiatives: combating misinformation and disinformation, advancing digital-first strategies among PRGN member agencies, and responsibly integrating AI into our work. By aligning agency efforts towards these goals, PRGN aims to serve as both a thought leader and a proactive force driving positive change in the public relations industry.Key Takeaways Frédéric prioritizes combating fake news to preserve democracy and enhance the integrity of public relations practices.Advancing digital-first strategies allows PRGN members to position themselves as leaders in digital communication, addressing potential gaps in digital proficiency. The role of artificial intelligence in public relations is critical, with Frédéric advocating for a strategic but responsible use of AI tools.Strategic external partnerships and internal collaborations within PRGN will be crucial to implementing Frédéric's initiatives efficiently. The 2nd annual Influence Insights survey will inform PRGN's strategies with data collected from communication directors and industry leaders on global trends and challenges.About the Guest Frédéric François is the new president of the Public Relations Global Network and Founder and Managing Partner of Two cents, a communications agency serving the Benelux region (Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg). Based in Brussels, Frédéric leads a team that supports clients with integrated PR, content and digital marketing, media buying and event-driven communication across sectors such as exhibitions, construction, interior design, tourism and ICT.Early in his career, Frédéric served as PR assistant to Belgian Prime Minister Wilfried Martens, an experience that introduced him to high-stakes political communication and media relations. He then spent nearly a decade at Brussels Expo as an exhibition organizer, focusing on sales, marketing and public relations around major trade fairs and live events. How will SaaS Companies scale in 2026? The next era of SaaS growth won't be won by adding more reps, more tools, or more noise. In this episode, go-to-market operator Koen Stam (Personio) breaks down why 2026 will mark a decisive shift from people-heavy scaling to process-first, data-driven, efficiency-led growth—and what founders must do now to stay ahead.Koen oversees international revenue operations across Benelux, DACH, the Nordics, Spain, and beyond, and he brings a rare operator's lens to the future of GTM. He unpacks how founder-led, sales-led, and hybrid motions will evolve; why RevOps is about to become one of the most strategic functions in SaaS; and why fixing the data layer is the non-negotiable prerequisite to making AI actually work. You'll learn why the biggest upside in 2026 will come from retention, expansion, and word of mouth, how to design motions that scale with simplicity and discipline, and what it really takes to build from 0 to 10K MRR and to 10M ARR with one product, one audience, and one crystal-clear process.A must-listen for founders, operators, and GTM leaders building for the next wave of SaaS.Key Timecodes(0:00) - Intro: B2B SaaS go-to-market 2026, RevOps, AI, retention, expansion(1:13) - Guest intro: Koen Stam, Personio, international RevOps, HR tech(2:04) - 2026 GTM strategy: process-first, data-driven, efficiency-led growth(2:47) - GTM motions: founder-led vs sales-led vs hybrid, authenticity, efficiency(4:02) - Efficiency in SaaS: bow tie model, customer journey mapping, root causes(5:35) - RevOps priority: data layer, metrics, RevOps to CRO(6:38) - AI in GTM: fix data foundations, process over people(7:26) - Retention & expansion: word-of-mouth, NRR, customer-led growth(9:20) - Sponsor: Reditus affiliate and referral platform for B2B SaaS(10:14) - Word-of-mouth playbook: product value, customer success, community events(12:06) - Build GTM from scratch: founder-led content, AI amplification, simplify(13:59) - Referrals & partners: partner ecosystem, trust, incentives, win-win(15:26) - Zero to 10K MRR: one offer, one ICP, focus, execution(16:54) - Scale to 10M ARR: one product, one market, process-first, data model(17:37) - Connect with Koen: LinkedIn, Substack, AI learnings(17:55) - Audience building: LinkedIn vs Substack, creator-led growth(18:27) - Outro: subscribe, sponsor, Reditus, Grow Your B2B SaaS podcast
Building a new wine category is not something that is easy to plan. It often is more like a startup, where belief in the product and market is just as critical as a defined strategy. That's how Luisa Amorim, CEO of Amorim Family Estates, launched Mirabilis into being an iconic still white wine of the Douro Valley. She outlines priority markets, views on scores and social media, and her belief in word of mouth marketing. Detailed Show Notes: Luisa's background: hospitality, marketing; started in the family business at 23; spent 3 years in a global rotation programAmorim Family Estates3 regions in Portugal (Douro, Dao, Alentejo)Each property has its own winery and team and does hospitality with a culture and food componentDivision of bigger Amorim cork company and familyMirabilis (part of Quinta Nova)Produced white wine from the beginning (2000)First an unoaked white, then a reserve, then Mirabilis (Latin for “marvelous”)White was not popular in Portugal at the time, production processes were not set up for whitesTook 2 years of experimentation, 1st vintage 2011 (2,000 bottles)Whites still have pricing barriers vs redsDouro white differentiation: close to Atlantic, schist soils, native grapes, and blendingIntroducing Douro whites: older people were harder to get on board, younger were more open to explorationNeed to have belief in product and its viability over having a detailed marketing planMarketing focus has been on teaching Portuguese wines (including culture and traditions)Geographic focus for MirabilisPortugal 1st - need to be well respected in the home countrySwitzerland, Benelux (lots of Michelin Star restaurants)Not Scandinavia (targeting higher end of the market)Brazil (speak Portuguese)USA, Canada5 people, based in Portugal, work internationally; travel 3-5x/year to each marketWhile design and packaging, price positioning are important, the sales team and their relationships are critical in the wine industryHaving a good wine is more important than press or reviews, people are paying less attention to reviewsConsumers now look at peers and friends for recommendations and they need to trust the wine producerSocial media - “should be doing more” - hiring younger people into marketingWine marketing needs to capture the “soul” of the wineMake things simpler, less technical talkMore provocative, “sexy” vs saying the same thing all wineries sayHas not done any paid advertisingRelies on word of mouth (people taste, buy, and talk) and partnerships Hosted on Acast. The Nightmare of Eveline Shadow was a haunting experience where guests stepped into the nightmarish writings of a horror novelist. They had to navigate a hotel filled with nightmares, while being guided by the narrator's prompts and scripts. The closure of hotels during the pandemic quarantine era created a golden opportunity for a trio of talented creators from the Benelux region. Alexander Gierholz of Logiclocks, Jeroen van Hasselt of Entered, and Meggy Pepelanova came together to create a unique horror experience set in an entire empty wing of a hotel. Alas, they experienced their own nightmare when lockdown regulations became even more restricted. They had to put their experience on hold, and then suddenly regulations lifted entirely, and the hotel began to resume normal operations. Their window for hosting The Nightmare of Eveline Shadow at an empty hotel vanished, and we're left with only handful of photos and this Spoilers Club series as evidence of its existence.
