Food safety isn't just about what's on the plate—it's about protecting everyone who gathers to share a meal. This week on Eating at a Meeting Podcast LIVE, join me as I chat with food safety expert Francine Shaw, CP-FS, FMP, about one of the most contagious viruses threatening events today: norovirus. Francine's expertise spans the globe, with projects from Peru to Dubai. She's worked with household names like Target, Marriott, and McDonald's. From keynote stages to consulting with public health departments, Francine, founder and CEO of Savvy Food Safety, Inc., co-creator and co-host of Don't Eat POOP! A Food Safety Podcast, and author of “Who Watches the Kitchen,” has made it her mission to champion food safety in every corner of the industry. With norovirus outbreaks on the rise, especially during the busy event season, it's a crucial topic for meeting planners. Unlike COVID-19, hand sanitizer alone won't cut it, so proper food safety protocols and cleaning measures are essential. In this episode, we'll discuss: How norovirus spreads and why it's so persistent. ➤ Practical strategies for venues and planners to reduce risk—from the kitchen to the buffet line. ➤ The key questions you need to ask your catering and venue partners to ensure safe practices. ➤ Steps you can take to safeguard attendees and staff, including cleaning high-touch surfaces and promoting thorough handwashing. Whether planning a corporate conference or a community gathering, this conversation will equip you with the tools to prioritize health, safety, and trust in your food and beverage experiences. Make food safety the backbone of every event, not an afterthought.

Would you like to have sharper thinking or more energy? Do you know that inflammation can affect your mood, your thinking, your vision, your gut health, and more? What if there was a test that could determine how much inflammation you have in your body based on markers? Lisa continues the conversation with guest Regan Archibald, Lac, FMP who talks about specific blood tests which do just that. Regan is one of the leading Peptide, Functional Medicine, and Longevity Specialists in the US. His award-winning center, EastWest Health, has performed thousands of comprehensive blood tests which include nearly 100 important markers that allow Regan and his team to understand the root cause of health issues. Regan is an international speaker and is the author of nine books including “The Peptide Blueprint” and “Ageless Future.” In this segment, Regan talks about blending Western medicine with Eastern. He talks about the ancient art of Chinese medicine and how emperors wanted immortality. They were on a quest for longevity. Eastern modalities are valid and tested scientifically. It's a more natural way of healing and methods that worked in the past are still powerful today. Regan also talks about infections. How do we get chronic infections in our guts? You need to test to see what type of infection it is in order to heal it. We can get infections from travelling, from parasites, from our pets, even from unsatisfactory conditions in restaurants. If you grew up with a diet where you were exposed to herbicides and pesticides, you probably have an unhealthy gut. Unhealthy genetically modified foods have affected us all. People who live in industrial countries have infections due to toxic exposure. It attacks our immune systems. Detoxing can also help. It's all based on testing. Mint, parsley, and cilantro are natural ways to help the detoxification process. Exercise is the best way to heal and detox. Movement helps tremendously to release toxins. You can get phenomenal health results by detoxing, and then adding peptides. Regan talks about the dedicated process of taking six months to improve your health. There are no quick fixes. Most people want to change, but it does take courage and commitment. How good would you like to feel? Regan's team can run specific lab tests and spend time explaining the details and results with you individually. If you are interested in learning more, or participating in a blood test as well as meeting with a consultant, pls visit https://agelessfuture.com/lisa/ You will be asked to fill out a form, then you can meet with a specialist. Regan is offering the tests to Aware Show listeners at a discounted rate. Info: https://agelessfuture.com/lisa/
Do you sometimes experience foggy thinking? Have you ever had a concussion or been hit on the head? Last year, Lisa had a major bike accident that caused a concussion and brain inflammation. Do you know that this inflammation can also affect your mood, your thinking, your vision, your gut health, and more? What if there was a test that could determine how much inflammation you have in your body based on markers? Our guest today, researcher Regan Archibald, Lac, FMP, talks about specific blood tests which do just that. Regan is one of the leading Peptide, Functional Medicine, and Longevity Specialists in the US. His award-winning center, EastWest Health, has performed thousands of comprehensive blood tests which include nearly 100 important markers that allow Regan and his team to understand the root cause of health issues. Regan is an international speaker and is the author of nine books including “The Peptide Blueprint” and “Ageless Future.” Even if you have never experienced head trauma, you may have had a health crisis at some point. The crisis can sometimes cause chronic illness. Regan became obsessed with studying peptides in the body after more than six concussions. He grew up on a ranch in Idaho where he rode dirt bikes, skateboards, mountain bikes, snowboards, and participated in other dangerous activities. After numerous concussions, his entire personality changed. He was no longer interested in school and studying, he found himself with a different group of friends, he was even dressing differently. He always had ADD, but found it was getting much worse. About a year later, he attended a conference where he heard a lecture about stem cells. Emergency Room doctors talked about using medication, but another doctor talked about a method of healing the brain by using a specific nasal spray. Regan became the first researcher and first person outside of a clinical trial to use this method for internasal stem cells. After his treatment, he slept very deeply and woke up able to quiet his mind for the first time. It was such a profound experience, he started researching ways to progress this method. Through studying stem cells, he learned about peptides that could help with regeneration, boosting the immune system, building muscles, and so much more. Scientists have identified about 7,000 different peptides in the body, but they become somewhat dormant as we age. We lose the ability to receive the signal. The receptors change and genes get turned off, but it's now possible to turn them back on! If you've been exposed to harmful chemicals, had an accident, been under stress, or even had an infection, peptides can be very beneficial to healing. Toxins stay in the fat of our bodies and brains and peptides can help with releasing harmful elements. Regan has developed specialized blood tests that can determine which peptides can be the most beneficial. Most people have chronic inflammation. This usually shows up in the gut first. The Vagus Nerve gets disrupted, and disease migrates into the digestive system. When inflammation cannot get flushed out of the brain, certain signals begin to disfunction. Sleep is the best detoxification for our brains. It's very important to recover from concussions for optimal brain health. The brain immediately tries to cope and therefore adapts. It turns off and on certain cells. There is so much research on aging and how the brain begins to shrink, but this does not have to be the case. It's Friday, November 8th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus and Jonathan Clark Nigerian Muslims killed 21 Christians in Benue State On November 1st and 2nd, Fulani Muslim herdsmen killed six Christians in Benue State, Nigeria after slaughtering 15 Christians in a nearby village two days prior, reports Morning Star News. Terwase Avande, a local resident, said they “began shooting at Christian residents.” And Paul Adetsav, a community leader, said, “The Fulani herdsmen keep attacking us almost on a daily basis, killing Christians at will and igniting fire on our houses and places of worship. “Crops we planted on our farms too have been destroyed by the armed herdsmen. Hunger has become an epidemic, killing us and our children since we have nothing to eat.” More than 400,000 members of the community have been displaced as a result of incessant attacks. According to Open Doors, Nigeria is the sixth most dangerous country worldwide in which to live as a Christian. Luke gave wise counsel in Acts 14:22. “…remain true to the faith.” Argentina's first Day of Evangelical Protestant Churches Argentina celebrated its first Day of Evangelical Protestant Churches on October 31 of this year. The country passed a law back in April to commemorate the day in memory of when Martin Luther published the 95 theses, sparking the Protestant Reformation. Fifteen percent of Argentina's population is Evangelical, numbering six million. Pastor Christian Hooft, the president of the Christian Alliance of Evangelical Churches of the Argentine Republic, said, “We celebrate the 5 solas of the monk Martin Luther: ‘Christ Alone, Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, and Glory be to God Alone,' which were an emblem that remained and strongly influenced culture, knowledge, and science.” Joe Scarborough hypocritically chastises the Democratic Party Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC's Morning Joe, spent much of the first hour of November 6th pontificating about where the Democrats went wrong. His focus was not their tactical moves, but their broader failure to understand and connect with the American people regarding their concerns, reports Newsbusters. SCARBOROUGH: “So, it's time for the Democrats to look in the mirror and figure out exactly what went wrong.” However, Scarborough —a Democrat flunky himself — has personified the very problems of which he complains. SCARBOROUGH: “There was some reluctance to talk about the things that were concerning Americans that really mattered this year — illegal immigration, the mass border crossings. That was something that concerned Hispanic voters. It's something that concerned Black voters, something that concerned all voters. “We've been talking about the transgender ad. Thirty thousand times it ran over $30 million. This is going to be a problem in the three states that you need. And yet, they just didn't respond to it because they were afraid to respond to it because it might offend some small subset of their base. “They have lost working-class America. The question is, How long until they understand that this isn't just about tax cuts? This isn't just about economics. This is about cultural markers that matter greatly in these people's lives.” Joe Scarborough sounds like the late Rush Limbaugh, doesn't he? But Mark Finkelstein of Newsbusters wrote, “There has been no show more slavishly devoted to parroting Democratic themes than Morning Joe. There's a reason why Joe Biden made Morning Joe his favorite show, calling on his staff to watch it, and becoming phone buddies with Scarborough. “And when others were calling out Biden's undeniable decline, it was Morning Joe which claimed that Ol' Joe was ‘sharp as a tack.'" White House Press Secretary blames bad economy on COVID pandemic Democrats are trying to figure out how President-elect Donald Trump won in a landslide. On November 7th, Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House Press Secretary, didn't blame the bad economy on the inflationary policies of Biden-Harris who printed up money to give away in stimulus checks. Instead, she blamed the bad economy on the COVID pandemic. JEAN-PIERRE: “One of the things that occurred was the pandemic. It caused disruption. It caused the supply chain to be disrupted, and caused the economy to be turned upside down. We are, in fact, leading the world on the economy. “That doesn't stop the fact that there has been a political toll for incumbents. That is something that I'm telling you as a data point to share because we know that you guys would have questions.” Late-night comedians meltdown over Trump win The late night comedians, who are by and large more committed to the Democratic Party than making America laugh, sounded as though they were attending the funeral of America. In fact, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel actually broke down in tears over Trump's victory. Listen. KIMMEL: “Let's be honest, it was a terrible night last night. It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go, for health care, for our climate. It was a terrible night for poor people, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO. I mean, I guess it was a bad night for everyone who voted for him, too. You just don't realize it yet.” And CBS's Steven Colbert tried to comfort his liberal audience. COLBERT: “How are you doing? If you watch the show regularly, I'm guessing you're not doing great. Yeah. Me neither. “It happened again. And in this democracy, the majority has spoken. They said they don't care that much about democracy. The first time Donald Trump was elected, he started as a joke and ended as a tragedy. This time, he starts as a tragedy. Who knows what he'll end as.” Republicans flip another U.S. Senate seat Republican David McCormick has won Pennsylvania's pivotal U.S. Senate seat, as the former CEO of the world's largest hedge fund beat three-term Democratic Senator Bob Casey, reports the Associated Press. Republicans have now flipped four seats and have 53 Senate seats compared to 45 for Democrats. Nevada and Arizona are still counting ballots. U.S. House still up for grabs The U.S. House is still up for grabs, reports Fox News. Republicans have 210 seats. Democrats have 198. 218 seats are needed for the majority. 83-year-old reunited with long-lost college ring And finally, 47 years ago, Frederick Morgan Perigo, a Canadian professor, lost his gold and ruby class ring while splashing around in Barbados with his son. When he went to protect his son from a big wave, the boy accidentally pulled off his father's MacMaster University class ring as he grabbed his hand. Providentially, Alex Davis, a fellow MacMaster University graduate and a professional freediver, happened to vacation in the same spot in the Barbados. He found Perigo's ring with the help of an underwater metal detector, reports The Daily News. After discovering the year 1965 and the initials “FMP” inscribed on the ring, it was a cinch to reunite it with its rightful owner through the alumni association. Reached by email, Perigo wrote, “This is unbelievable news!” Luke 12:7 reveals that God cares about even the smallest detail since He knows the number of hairs on our head. Sitting quietly at the back of a crowded GE conference room, a young Sandra Wallach diligently took notes during an executive briefing. As one of the newest inductees into GE's esteemed Financial Management Program (FMP), she was eager to absorb every detail. Unbeknownst to her at the time, this moment marked the beginning of a transformative 17-year journey with General Electric."FMP allowed me to figure out what I really like to do, what I gravitate towards, and what I'm not as interested in," she reflects. From aircraft leasing to manufacturing finance, each rotation broadened her expertise and honed her adaptability.GE's approach to talent development was immersive and expansive. Wallach continues, "I had 10 different roles in nine different physical locations over my time." This constant movement not only built her resilience but also provided her with a holistic understanding of GE's diverse businesses. The culture emphasized being an integral part of the senior leadership team and driving change. "They expected me to be able to speak to the business almost as well as the leader that I was supporting," she notes. This high standard pushed her to develop skills beyond traditional finance roles. Along the way, Wallach says GE's culture exposed her to the personal attributes that would become increasingly critical as she advanced into leadership positions. "Do you have personal edge? Can you make the tough calls? Do you have personal energy?" she explains. Serving as a Master Black Belt and later as a pricing executive, she stepped outside traditional finance roles, gaining valuable insights that would later prove essential in the C-suite.Beyond GE, Wallach tells us there were still a few boxes to check before she could step into a CFO role. Positions at Intuit and MiaSole provided her with exposure to Silicon Valley's fast-paced culture and the opportunity to work directly with boards and investors. These experiences, coupled with her GE foundation, ultimately paved the way for her appointments as CFO of Amprius Technologies.

Cameron Christensen, CEFP, FMP is Director of Asset Management for Facilities Operations at Princeton University where he is passionate about leading organizations in planning, maintenance, operations, and project management. Mike Petrusky asks Cam about his new role and why he believes that people are the key to success in facilities management. The pandemic has shifted the paradigm of thinking in facilities and asset management, so Cameron says that industry-leaders must approach the traditional ten-year master plan for a campus with flexibility and dynamic planning. Technology is an accelerator of strategy, not the strategy itself so the role of FM professionals will continue to be essential, especially as they adapt to evolving needs and challenges. Listen in to the latest episode of Fisheries Gone Wild!! On this episode we take a dive into Southern Flounder, the states failed management approach and how we got to this point. The state has truly failed the public angler , we have now been shut out of another public trust fishery here in North Carolina with no recreational southern flounder season this year. Why did this happen? How in the world did our public trust fishereies get to this point? Why is the public angler taking the brunt of the States failure to manage our fisheries and what can you do about it? Now is the time to become informed on the issues, contact your legislaters, send that email raising your concerns, become apart of the process. We need your voice now more than ever!! For nearly three decades, North Carolina has managed its marine and estuarine resources under the auspices of the Fisheries Reform Act. It sets forth a series of policies and regulations that are overly cumbersome, unflexible, and inefficient. By design, changes needed to modify the base FMP take an average of 3-5 years to enact. And no matter what those changes need to be, a politically appointed MFC can undo those years of work on a whim. Because we are mandated to manage our fisheries resources through separate FMPs, too many problems slip through the cracks, too many issues can be purposely ignored. All the while, we continue to watch species after species fall into decline. A few examples follow: → From the speckled trout FMP, it is noted that small mesh gill nets are very effective at removing 14” trout, with very few speckled trout discarded as bycatch. Because of this, the commercial industry claims that this is a clean, selective gear and that they should be given a greater share of the fishery because they will fish it more effectively than public anglers will. What isn't mentioned or considered in developing future management measures for speckled trout is the effectiveness that those same nets have when it comes to removing 14” (sublegal), striped bass and red drum. Rather than be allowed to recruit to their respective fisheries, these fish are discarded and left to serve as fodder for scavengers. In addition, the mullet fishery is closely tied to the speckled trout fishery, with each species being listed as the primary incidental catch for the other. If mullet fishermen catch trout and trout fishermen catch mullet, then the two species should co-managed to mitigate the bycatch losses that the coming restrictions in each amendment to each FMP will generate. In other words, gill net restrictions in one fishery should be applied to both fisheries. → When it comes to striped bass in NC, we commonly hear, “It's all about flow.” Clearly, it isn't as good flow rates in the ASMA for the past five years have led to nothing but failed spawns. The real issues are: (a) a lack of big fish, the best spawners, which DMF stats show have been historically harvested in gill nets, (b) an increasing problem from blue catfish through food competition and/or direct consumption of juvenile stripers, (c) climatic changes altering spawning cycles, or zooplankton availability, or egg density, or etc... → Shrimp trawling in our estuaries continues to destroy millions of juvenile spot, croaker, weakfish, Southern flounder, and blue crab. (a) We continue to cut the legs off of spot, croaker, and weakfish recovery by trawling through a key secondary nursery habitat, the Pamlico Sound, for the coastwide populations of these species. (b) Ignoring blue crab bycatch in this industry is certainly contributing to the troubled status of that fishery where the latest series of management measures has failed, again. (c) Failing to protect a documented Southern flounder hotspot in the latest version of the shrimp, Southern flounder, and CHPP plans will only further hamper its recovery. → The benefits of SAV habitats are undeniable. In fact, they are one of the most critical areas throughout the coast of NC. Failing to protect them because of the recommendations of standing ACs that are dominated by the commercial industry shows only a willingness to genuflect to that industry. → Continuing to allow mechanical harvest of our few remaining oyster reefs: (a) removes more key habitat for numerous species, (b) promotes diminished water quality, and (c) leads to shoreline loss as oyster reefs diminish wave energy during storms. With no synergy, no connectivity between plans, failures such as this have become the rule instead of the exception. We will not save our fisheries until we can find a way to manage the system as a whole. Remember your basic biology. Our estuarine system is a resilient, yet fragile one full of complex habitats, food webs, and trophic levels that are all interdependent. How many important finfish species forage on crabs, mullet, menhaden, shrimp, croaker, and more? How often do flounder, stripers, trout, redfish, black drum, and sheepshead occupy the same habitat areas? What untold damage is done by excessive shrimp trawling in Pamlico Sound? How much longer can we afford to ignore the subtle complexities of our estuaries? It is a unique system that should be managed and protected as a whole.

This episode is for YOU if you're curious how gut health impacts your thyroid and hormones. We learn all about the gut hormone connection! Dr. Katelynn Nardulli is a doctor of chiropractic, functional diagnostic nutrition practitioner, founder of Flourish Wellness Practice and Creator of the Gut Restoration Program. Dr. Kate specializes in gastrointestinal health and shares that hormonal imbalances won't be fully resolved until gut health is optimal. We learn: Dr. Kate's personal story of being diagnosed with thyroid disease (Hashimoto's), the role her gut health played and how this led her to help others. The gut is the second brain and plays a crucial role in managing autoimmune conditions and balancing hormones. Leaky gut, where the gut lining becomes permeable, can lead to an influx of toxins in the body and stress the immune system. Supporting liver and gut health through diet, probiotics, and stress reduction can help manage estrogen dominance and hormonal health. The importance of evaluating and strengthening gut health even if there are no severe or obvious gut symptoms. The GI Map test as a way to assess gut health and identify underlying issues such as leaky gut. Slowing down and practicing deep breathing before and during meals can improve digestion and nutrient absorption. Drinking dandelion root tea or lemon water first thing in the morning can support the liver and balance hormones. Leveling Up: Creating Everything From Nothing with Natalie Jill
In this episode, you will learn: ✅ What PEPTIDES are ✅ Which ones work best as we navigate metabolism issues and menopause? ✅ How to use Semaglutide for safe and effective weight loss? I can't wait to dive into this conversation with Regan Archibald because he is the expert on all things peptides. Most of you that will be listening don't know what peptides are, or you've heard very little about them. They are things that we could be using in so many areas of our life when it comes to longevity, building muscle, cognitive hormones, weight loss, injury, pain recovery, and the list goes on and on. We need more experts in this, and we're lucky to have Reagan to shed some light. [00:00:54] Introduction. We'd be generally healthier if more people knew about peptides. Regan cites the use of peptides as the future of medicine. They are natural expressions in the body, folded proteins that change a cellular response. [05:09] Why isn't everyone talking about peptides? Regan took it upon himself to start interviewing experts and created a medical course in 2019 for doctors to learn how to use peptides in their practice. His clinic East West Health has deployed more peptides prescriptions than almost any other clinic in the country. [10:19] Semaglutide is not intended for someone who wants to lose five or 10 lbs. Using semaglutide as a weight loss aid has become quite trendy lately, but we must be cautious about this approach. While it may be medically necessary for some people, using it to shed a few pounds can be slippery, especially when it involves messing with insulin levels. The potential long-term damage to one's health cannot be ignored, especially without properly monitoring the right labs. [11:44] BPC-157 is the wolverine peptide known for its potent healing and regenerative properties. It stimulates nitric oxide, which helps with better circulation and vasodilation, so you get nice nourishment for your muscles. The other thing with BPC-157 is it helps heal any intestinal barrier. [17:16] Use peptides "in addition to" and not "instead of" your healthy foundations. Regan reminds us that peptides should be employed with nutrition and exercise. We don't use them to treat disease. "That's where it differs from Western medicine, which is diagnosing a disease with a singular cause and then a singular treatment. What we're doing is just optimizing health. So if you're already healthy and you've got good nutrition, good habits, good lifestyle - use peptides, you'll feel better, you're going to age slower, and you're going to put on more muscle." [19:41] Peptides and menopause. Hormone replacement therapy and bioidentical hormones have been gaining popularity, and now there's another contender: peptides. Peptides play a crucial role in regulating hormones and offer a natural and safe way to manage hormonal imbalances. [24:09] Four out of five peptides that people use are from the black market. It would be best to have a compounding pharmacy that offers safe and prescriptive access. It's so much better to do it correctly rather than have poor outcomes that come at a cost. ---------------- Regan Archibald, Lac, FMP, is one of the leading Peptide Specialists in the nation and serves as a Regenerative Therapy and Peptide Consultant at the award-winning clinic he founded in 2004, East West Health and Integrated Pain Specialists.
