This is part two of two of a look at the life of famed evangelist Billy Graham. In part one we looked at Graham's early life through his first major evangelistic campaign in Los Angeles. Today we'll look at the rest of his life. I feel like I should say that I'm not covering everything that Graham did in his life. He was a busy guy. There are plenty of biographies out there if you are interested in learning more about him.RESOURCES The Billy Graham Library: https://billygrahamlibrary.org/blog-billy-graham-and-the-florida-bible-institute/ iDisciple: https://www.idisciple.org/post/the-impact-of-one Christian History Institute: https://christianhistoryinstitute.org/magazine/issue/billy-graham Billygraham.org: https://billygraham.org/about/biographies/billy-graham/ The Billy Graham Library: https://billygrahamlibrary.org/billy-graham/ Christianity Today: https://www.christianitytoday.com/history/people/evangelistsandapologists/billy-graham.html My Hero: https://myhero.com/billy-graham The Gospel Coalition: https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justin-taylor/interview-billy-grahams-best-biographer/ Inspirational Christians: https://www.inspirationalchristians.org/evangelists/reverend-billy-graham-ordinary-man-extraordinary-call/ Christianity.com: https://www.christianity.com/church/church-history/timeline/1801-1900/mordecai-ham-outspoken-evangelist-11630588.html Aunty Faith: https://auntyfaith.com/2020/09/01/the-biography-of-mordecai-ham-the-southern-revivalist/ Florida Backroads Travel: https://www.florida-backroads-travel.com/temple-terrace-florida.html WUSF: https://www.wusf.org/news/2018-02-21/rev-billy-graham-found-evangelical-voice-in-temple-terrace-tampa Christian History Institute: https://christianhistoryinstitute.org/magazine/article/the-modesto-manifesto
We've been following the chain of faith from Edward Kimball to DL Moody, then from Moody to Wilbur Chapman and on through Billy Sunday and Mordecai Ham until we've finally reach the man himself, William Franklin Graham. Charlotte is a city where the Bible-based "Billy Graham Library" is a top tourist attraction. But now, we're becoming an abortion destination. Women are coming to town in big numbers since nearby states have passed abortion restrictions. Governor Roy Cooper has put out the welcome mat, inviting women to come into the state for an abortion.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Since their first engagement together as musicians for a church camp in Petersburg, Michigan in August, 1986 until now, the ministry God has given Phil & Kim has expanded and flourished until it is a full-time livelihood that involves their entire family.Their boundaries of influence have expanded until they have sung and played all over the United States (as well as internationally) into their 36th year of ministry.Phil & Kim's actual base of ministry began during their college days. Phil is a 1986 graduate of God's Bible School & College, Cincinnati, OH. This is the famous, 100+ year old college that is well-known within Christian education ranks for having been the American college where Oswald Chambers (“My Utmost For His Highest”) taught.Phil also completed professional trumpet studies at College Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati and earned a Bachelor of Sacred Music degree with a double major in trumpet performance and music education.Kim attended Union Bible College, Westfield, IN where she was very instrumental in arranging most of the music that was performed by the college's traveling music groups. Since that time, many ministry opportunities have come across their pathway. They have always maintained a public performance ministry, which for the first fourteen years included doing music presentations for church camps and extended-length revival campaigns. They have also held the positions of Ministers of Music, Hobe Sound Bible Church, Hobe Sound, FL; Director, Music Division, Union Bible College, Westfield, IN; and Phil was Dean of Enrollment Management at his Alma Mater, God's Bible School & College, Cincinnati, OH. In January, 2000, Phil & Kim transitioned to a new, all-concert ministry. They began recording professionally and currently utilize America's top-selling choral arranger, Bradley Knight (Dallas, TX) as their primary producer. This new emphasis began to expand their boundaries rapidly. Their home has seen the addition of four children across the years and the children are now very actively involved in the ministry.Their two oldest daughters are quite proficient on the violin and play at each of their concerts. Their entire family sings together in an ensemble.Kim is well-known for her phenomenal mastery of the piano and the extraordinary talent God has given her is a part of each concert, as well as trumpet solos from Phil. On February 1, 2019, they signed an exclusive booking agreement with JEFF ROBERTS & ASSOCIATES of Hendersonville, TN, which now represents them in all personal appearances. Then, on April 12, 2021, The Collingsworth Family signed a recording agreement with Gaither Music Group, Nashville, TN which now markets their recordings internationally, both digitally and physically, via GMG's agreement with UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP/CAPITOL CHRISTIAN as exclusive distributor. This new agreement also added The Collingsworth Family to appear regularly on the GAITHER GOSPEL HOUR's internationally syndicated television shows, distributed to more than a dozen commercial television networks.Their ministry is featured regularly on the nation's largest gospel music syndicated radio program, The Gospel Greats with Rodney Baucom. Their music is also regularly featured on XM/Sirius Satellite Radio's Enlighten Channel 65, GMT (Gospel Music Television), The DayStar Television Network, INSP, and is featured each year, at Christmas, in prime-time specials on the Trinity Broadcasting Television Network. The Collingsworth Family has appeared on many of the Gaither's Homecoming Series live concert events around the nation, making appearances with the Gaithers in some of their largest venues in the US and Canada, as well as taping many of their filming events at the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, TN; The Billy Graham Library, Charlotte, NC; and at their hometown studio, Alexandria, IN.The CFam Personal Appearance Schedule shows the broad appeal their family emphasis has, performing in all types of venues across the US, the Cayman Islands, Sweden, Norway, Canada, etc. They annually make appearances at The Brooklyn Tabernacle, Brooklyn NY; The Billy Graham Training Center, Asheville, NC; Shadow Mountain Community Church, El Cajon, CA; and at many festivals and celebrations such as The Great Smokies PraiseFest, Sevierville, TN; Branson PraiseFest, Branson, MO; The National Quartet Convention, Pigeon Forge, TN; Gaither's Family Fest, Gatlinburg, TN; etc.The rapid expansion they have seen occur with the transition to an all-concert ministry is a direct result of the emphasis they have placed on the power of prayer. Each Tuesday evening, they hold a private prayer meeting in their home for the specific purpose of praying for the salvation of their children and the expansion of their ministry.Since the beginning of these weekly prayer meetings in 2000, the doors of opportunity for ministry have opened to them, crossing all evangelical denominational boundaries. Phil & Kim's entire purpose is to give the talent God has loaned them back to their Creator as a sacrifice of praise. The Collingsworth Family: Phil and Kim Collingsworth, children, Brooklyn Collingsworth Blair, the oldest sibling, Courtney Collingsworth-Metz, the second-oldest of the four siblings, Phil Collingsworth jr., the third oldest of the four kids, Olivia Collingsworth, the youngest sibling. I write in a forest. I go to listen. What started at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte has evolved into a lifelong journey. Something was moving through me. I've heard a calling. These aren't my words. These are the lyrics from Billy's forest.

Doth Protest Too Much: A Protestant Historical-Theology Podcast
Merry Christmas! In this episode, Stephen and Rev. Andrew each share three podcasts that they have been recently enjoying and would recommend to Doth Protest Too Much fans. These other podcasts range from topics of the paranormal to stand-up comedy to relational/emotional wellness to cancel culture to church leadership-gone-wrong to modern theology. Also, we conclude our discussion on Billy Graham that we started in a previous episode titled "A Prayer Complete". Rev. Andrew shares a little bit about the Billy Graham book Angels: God's Secret Agents. Stephen and Rev. Andrew also each share about their experience visiting the Billy Graham Library. **Correction: We don't want to spoil the other podcasts we talk about in the show notes, but it is Delony, (not Mulaney- who is also a real guy)..
In this episode, we give suggestions on how your family can be a catalyst for community building in your neighborhood and spheres of influence. Christmas is an awesome time of year to "break the ice" by bringing something to your neighbors and being an instrument of God's love!
Hey it's Arroe. I'm a Poet. One that just happens to write in a forest. In 2015 I stepped into a very special collection of trees at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC While there. I did nothing but write. But they weren't my words. They were The Lyrics From Billy's Forest. Nearly two years later God spoke to my heart. It was time to grow beyond the library, to write within other collections of trees. Mainly my forest in South Charlotte NC. In every place I've written the spirit of Billy's Lyrics vibrate the purpose and plan God put into play. I never know what I'm going to write about when I enter these forest. Which gives us plenty of time in the end to talk about it. These are not my words. These are the lyrics from Billy's forest.

On a wall near the main entrance to the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, is a portrait with the following inscription: "James Butler Bonham--no picture of him exists. This portrait is of his nephew, Major James Bonham, deceased, who greatly resembled his uncle. It is placed here by the family that people may know the appearance of the man who died for freedom." Today there are no literal photographs of Jesus. The technology did not exist in the first century. But, while we don't know what his physical appearance looked like, the likeness of Jesus can be seen in the lives of His true followers. This is the goal of the Christian life. We are to be like Jesus. We are to live as he did in character, integrity, godliness, and mission. When people spend time with us, there should be a noticeable difference from the unbelieving world. Christians do not live by the values of the world, we live by the values of scripture. How would it impact your life if you prayed each morning, “Jesus, help me to be more like you today?”1 John 2:6 - “Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.”All of us tonight are works-in-progress. We are not finished. We are not glorified. We are not perfect. We are not completed. We are all under construction. Construction sites are noisy and messy. Is your life noisy and messy? Sometimes it's hard to image what the final outcome will be. We are responsible though, to cooperate with the Holy Spirit. God's work in our lives is usually a steady, lifelong progress toward godliness. But we are responsible to discipline ourselves for the purpose of godliness.1 Timothy 4:7 – “Train yourself to be godly.” It's not just praying and asking God to change us. It's yielding to the what the Spirit of God is saying to us. You have to participate with God. You have to work at it! As you consider what it means to be more like Jesus, here are some things that are important to know…•It will not happen by accident•It does not happen overnight•It cannot happen without us cooperating with the Holy Spirit•It happens when we make personal commitments•It happens with the godly encouragement of other Christians (the right friends make it easier for you to grow in the Lord and the wrong friends make it much harder)•It happens as we become what God made us to beSometimes as Christians we struggle with the idea of God's will for our lives. We ask, “How can we know God's will?” The scripture is clear that it is God's will for you to be like Jesus.Romans 8:29 - “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.”My wife and I recently visited the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina. Billy and his wife Ruth are buried on the property. On Ruth Graham's grave are etched these words: End of construction. Thank you for your patience.”You and I will be under construction until we meet the Lord. He is patiently at work in each of our lives to make us like Jesus.God has promised that the work he has begun in us will be completed. Let's walk in step with Jesus everyday and become more like him. Today's Challenge: Let's decide to cooperate with the Holy Spirit
March 9, 2021 I’m a poet. One that just happens to write in a forest. On May 7, 2015 I found myself sitting inside the collection of trees at the Billy Graham Library. I did nothing but write. Only to learn what was being written carried with it a vibration I had never experienced before. That’s why I’ve always called the podcast The Lyrics from Billy’s Forest. Since that May day I’ve continued to write within any collection of trees while still keeping the origin of the seed very much alive inside of me. During the morning of December 19, 2020 I was using the writing instrument to paint the photograph of my own forest here in south Charlotte, NC. I spoke of the Morning Doves and the music they bring. Always peace filled and welcoming. I stopped to stare at the leafless trees. The morning sunrise in bloom and it was only 35 degrees. Frost on everything I touched. But there was no room to think about it for the songs from the doves erased my human tendencies to bundle up tighter and cover my ears. So where is this going right? The things in front of us are so often missed because we’re more interested and invested in getting through the moment. We’ve forgotten how to enjoy the sounds of crackling brown and yellow leaves beneath our feet. It’s been nearly a year since Covid 19 changed not one but everyone. So often I’ve tried to describe the experience as walking across a very dry desert with no water or shade. Yet on this day March 9, 2021 a new shape appears in my heart. The effect of the words put on a page in December 2020, associated with a forest experience on May 7, 2015. Look at all of those dates! The seasons that’ve come and gone. In taking notes I realized that we’ve not been strolling across a dry desert floor but rather trapped inside a winter’s forest. The trees are bare, the long tall grasses have lost their color yet the stream continues to flow. The birds are flying, the rabbits are nibbling and the deer carry with them a heavier coat for warmth. That’s what we see. But is it reality? The view shouldn’t be the winter’s forest but rather the new growth featuring leaves on the tree, the scent of wild roses and the sound of long distant lawn mowers and warmth of a spring breeze. Change your point of direction. Look outward to the new season rather than finding yourself inside an atmosphere of what once was. Look into the sunrise not around it. Experience certainty through those daily rays of light. The things in front of us are so often missed because we’re more interested and invested in getting through the moment.

Why lie when the truth is more entertaining? The answer can be tricky. Celia and I first met face-to-face in a Starbucks, not the Billy Graham Library. Although we are frequent customers in many of the other stores in that strip mall, we've never been back in that coffee shop. Do we consider it a shrine? No one knows. If you like this podcast, check out my blog posts published each Monday and can be found at: www.grievance2gratitude.weebly.com
Episode 18: What’s In The NameI’m extremely guilty of trying to come up with catchy names or titles for my podcasts and episodes. Unplugged and Totally Uncut, The Choice, View from the Writing Instrument and Pod-crashing to name a few. Weird way out there labels but nothing as cool as Marc Maron’s WTF, Discraceland, The Joe Rogan Experience or Crime Junkie. While thumbing through iHeart Radio’s podcast directory I had an extremely difficult time locating Ellen DeGeneres’ On The Go. I wasn’t aware of the title. It wasn’t as easy as Elvis Duran On Demand or the Ben Shapiro Show. When I danced for the first time seven years ago with podcasting my DJ radio ego wanted to be cool like 48 Hours, Good Morning America and The Late Show. I wanted something that could be branded by me and not a major Broadcast Corporation. Podcasting was like taking my first baby step. No more scooching across the floor. I was up and ready to run. That’s when I realized babies don’t learn how to walk they learn how to fall. Podcasting’s the same. Everybody has the freedom to write, produce, act out and say whatever they want. What happens if the name of the show or episodes become that collection of letters people aren’t typing into search engines? No matter how many times you social network the presentation the image doesn’t come to mind when new and old listeners need something pretty awesome to stuff into their ears. I chose Unplugged and Totally Uncut because in the opening scenes of the digital race I thought I’d be original and let listeners in on the entire process of the interview. From the comedians walking into the studio and never knowing the show started before they arrived to leaving in my vocal mess ups cuz I want to be just as human as those who’ve chosen to take a shot and listen. More importantly I was the production director of six radio stations and editing was too time consuming so I had to come up with a name that basically said this is why it isn’t perfect. Unplugged and Totally Uncut. 7 years later, as a personality I’m still unplugged. I’ve always been on the strange side. I’m ok with a head dented in by the school of hard knocks. The totally uncut part has change tremendously. I’m an editing whore. It took me the longest time to learn how to edit for podcasting versus editing for a terrestrial radio show. Podcast listeners accept mess ups and but make them sound natural without having to edit the show to absolutely no mistakes. During those days my numbers were horrid. I remember a listener writing to me, “I love your effort but if I wanted to hear a show I’d turn on the radio. I’m more into conversations.” View from the Writing Instrument is the writer in me being awkwardly overbearingly too determined to never say, “I talk with published authors.” I wanted a podcast that was all about who what where why and when is your next book due? I live the life of writers because in all things I do it all starts with letters, sentences and paragraphs. My biggest battle wasn’t getting the authors but rather who and what is a writer? What about songwriting? What about script writers? Those that put together recipe books? It truly opened the door for me to broaden my niche. I also have a podcast called The Lyrics From Billy’s Forest. I don’t want to call this a dork moment because the story behind the name runs extremely deep into the soul of why broadcasting is the addiction. What do you think happens on The Lyrics From Billy’s Forest? A farm boy country songwriter gone big city? Nope. Mark Twain inspired tree hugging poetry? Nah. I spent two years writing in the forest that surrounds the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC. I started doing it the day my father passed away. I wrote things down no other place on the planet shot through my thinking system. I’d always tell myself “These aren’t my words. These are the lyrics from Billy’s forest.” A podcast I totally get into is NBC’s Songland podcast. The name says it all. But only if you’ve seen the weekly music show on television. The Best Of Steve Harvey is a great name. It tells thumbing around podcast listeners exactly what it is. The Best Of. Not to be confused with The Steve Harvey Show podcast. Armchair Expert from Dax Sheppard totally rocks my listening world. If my wife wouldn’t of told me about it the name Armchair Expert would’ve convinced me that it’s a sports show. Right? I’ve had a conversation with the creator of the LORE podcast. The Dude’s totally focused and turns word play into a candy store. Chelsea Handler’s Life Will Be The Death Of Me sounds like a totally awesome comedian driven laugh your ass off funny show. But it’s not. She’s incredibly brave to push mental illness forward and deals with it by taking the subject to multiple stages and through many different levels. When you listen to the podcast you’ll instantly get the name but without an explanation it kinda sat there for a while. I didn’t grow up listening to albums and cd’s that featured comedians. I’m that guy that’s an out of control visual. Stuff You Missed In History Class is a brilliant title. Food 360 with Marc Murphy puts being an all-out fan of food on the most important part of the day list. Purple Panties though kinda scares me. What if while listening my wife looks over my shoulder at the smart phone and sees only Purple Panties. That’s why I can’t figure out why E.D. commercials put so much focus on men having more sex. Guys are shouting “Hell yes!” Women on the other hand are thinking, “He’s gonna screw around on me.” Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend makes me laugh without listening. I wish he would’ve gotten into radio decades before podcasting. The Last Podcast On The Left makes me wonder about what’s across the hall on the right. What do you think this podcast is about? Judge the show by its title! The Last Podcast On the Left. It covers all the horrors our world has to offer but imagined and real. Demons and slashers to cults and serial killers. So what’s the moral of the story? There are millions of podcasts currently playing, many of which bare unique names that don’t always come up while using the search engine. I totally grasp the energy put into being original and how fun it can be to stick our way of thinking way out there globally. Thinking like a listener I’m reminded of my talk with program director of a Charlotte station in 1985. He wanted me to drop the name Arroe Collins. Listeners would write on the Arbitron Earl, Harrold, Errol and believe it or not Aerosmith. I disagreed and did everything I could to protect the name. 35 years in the same market and I still bump into people that greet me with, “Hey Arlo.” As in Guthrie. As big corporate business radio gets its arms wrapped around podcasting will those being hired need to create content need to shape up their names? The way I moved around the oddness of my titles was to put Arroe Collins on it first then the addition of the other title. A smarter me would of spelled my name A R R O W totally taking out the letter E.

Bruce Snell along with his wife Karen, founded BSG International Inc., a company that offers businesses a complete infrastructuring package to increase quality and promote positive customer relations. Understanding and solving these issues are what lead Bruce to write Breaking Through The 4 Barriers To Quality. Early in life, Bruce learned the value of being tough, taking a hit and standing firm. After he succeeded as a high school athlete, he received a collegiate athletic scholarship in baseball, basketball and football. After college, he signed on as a free agent with a professional football team. One of Bruce's greatest moments in life was in 2001 when he discovered Jesus. Since then Bruce has been involved in the Men's Gatherings for over 12 years and has been praying with the Billy Graham Library for personal, professional revival for over 4 years. Even though Bruce's book Breaking Through The 4 Barriers To Quality was written 15 years before receiving Christ, these same barriers are evident in our relationship to Jesus Christ. Mr. Snell has a bachelor’s degree in business and lives with his wife in Chapin, South Carolina.
