Director of Strategic Partnerships, Billy Parker, stops by to explain how NSITE is a one-stop-shop for blindness employment. A spinoff of the National Industries for the Blind (NIB), NSITE works with employers to identify potential candidates who are blind, visually impaired, and/or veterans. From there, NSITE assists with accessibility needs, onboarding, and training, then prepares both parties for job placement. Their work does not end there; it continues with ongoing support to accommodate changes in accessible technology and employer requirements. Billy and John also discuss how remote work opportunities have been a game-changing element to today's workforce and how accessible technology benefits everyone. :: PODCAST LINKS :: For show notes, guest profiles, photos, blog and more information, visit AmbiguouslyBlind.com and connect on: Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | Linkedin Like what we're doing? For the 1st time in years, St. Patrick's Day was celebrated by the Gentiles! I talk about our experience going to a St. Patrick's Day Party in downtown Houston along with running into our good friend Billy Parker. Which I will say it is NEVER a dull moment with him around!
In the U.S. alone over 7.5 million people are blind or have low vision. One of the biggest challenges those with visual impairments face is in relation to employment. So that's why we're delighted to be joined on the show today by a cast of people who are trying, and succeeding, to make a difference on this front. Jax Willey, the President of Orion Global Talent and Billy Parker, Program Director at NSITE, a subsidiary of the National Industries for the Blind, are involved in a partnership to provide the professional education needed for blind and visually impaired individuals to enter the recruiting and sourcing industry. The brainchild of Jax's business partner, Bob Richardson, this program can help upskill members of this community and allow for actual career mobility. We also welcome Erin Pierpoint, the Head of Talent Strategy at Bristol Myers Squibb, to give us a glimpse into the future employer side of this discussion. In this edition of The Shortlist, we're going to be chatting about this program and its aims, the struggles faced by those with visual impairments and how SocialTalent's recruitment content has helped prepare these candidates for their future careers. On this week's episode, Caleb Pitts (Podcast about List) joins the cast as Billy Parker, Salmonville's prolific eight year old serial killer. Rutherford tries to get to the bottom of Sally Johnson's story. Someone dies in this episode.
While Billy Parker was a mainstay on country radio, his claim to fame was as an influential disc jockey, not as a performer. Ironically, for all of the Top 40 hits he spun over the course of his decades on the air, not one of them was his own. Born July 19, 1939, in Tuskegee, OK, he began playing guitar as a child and by the age of 14 had made his professional debut on the Tulsa radio program Big Red Jamboree. A few years later, he began performing in clubs and in 1959 landed his first job as a DJ.By 1963, Billy was the regular daytime disc jockey on Wichita, Kansas’ KFDI and also hosted a Tulsa television program. In the same year, he cut his first single, “The Line Between Love and Hate,” and was named “Mr. DJ U.S.A.” in a nationwide poll, which helped land him at Nashville’s WSM. After releasing another record, “I’m Drinking All the Time,” in 1966, Parker began playing with Ernest Tubbs Troubadours in 1968 and stayed with the group for three years, until he joined Tulsa’s KVOO.Billy was named Disc Jockey of the Year by the Academy of Country & Western Music in 1975; he won the award again in 1977, 1978, and 1984.In 1976, he scored his first chart hit with “It’s Bad When You’re Caught (With the Goods),” from the album Average Man. He scored his biggest success in 1982 with the title track from the LP (Who’s Gonna Sing) The Last Country Song.He was inducted into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame in 1992.See more on our website: https://www.voicesofoklahoma.com/interview/parker-billy/

The Joy of Geek Podcast, Episode 67: Exploring the Halls of Junior High Horrors with Rob Potchak, Rob Retiano and Billy Parker On this special episode of The Joy of Geek Podcast, we (Rich and Kevin) introduce you to the spooky world of Junior High Horrors: and all-ages Horror comic series launching later this year. We recently had an opportunity to interview the creative team - Writer Rob Potchak, and Artists Rob Retiano and Billy Parker - to discuss their individual origin stories, their introduction to comics, and the genesis of Junior High Horrors. This episode was recorded live at Arkham Comix in Rocky Mount NC, so things do get unpredictable and noisy at times, but this episode offers a unique glimpse into the life of independent comic creators on the road promoting their work. And since this is The Joy of Geek, we also squeeze in some chat about the films, TV shows and comics we've been enjoying lately, as well as what we're looking forward to in the weeks and months to come. So join us, as we battle our way through thumping background bass and the clatter of after-con table breakdown, all in pursuit of the ultimate interview. This...is The Joy of Geek. Live!
