Heather E. Whitson, MD, MHS explores how resilience—the ability to recover and adapt after stress or illness—changes across the lifespan. She explains that bounce back slows with age and that people age at different rates, influenced by biology, lifestyle, and environment. Studies connect lower inflammation, stronger cellular health, and emotional well-being to better recovery, such as regaining mobility after hip fracture or coping with persistent pain. Whitson also highlights how changes in the brain, like the buildup of amyloid and tau proteins, begin years before memory problems, underscoring the importance of early prevention. She points to practical steps that support resilience at any age: staying active, eating a Mediterranean style diet, managing blood pressure and blood sugar, protecting vision, engaging socially and mentally, prioritizing sleep, avoiding harmful exposures, and preventing injuries. This week, Jason and Matt sit down with a member of the TFTP family, former journalist Kevin Whitson. After contributing hundreds of articles over six years, Kevin has channeled his journalistic and educational skills into a powerful new book, The Paranoid Mystic's Guide to Ending Addiction Now Using Psychedelics. Written after the tragic loss of his son to an overdose in 2020, Kevin's book is a tactical guide for individuals to reclaim their sovereignty from addiction using ancient plant medicines. In this episode, we kick things off by diving into the foundational steps in Kevin's guide—the radical act of reclaiming one's biology by fixing gut health, eliminating processed foods, and mastering sleep before ever touching a psychedelic. From there, we explore the different tools in the psychedelic arsenal, from psilocybin and cannabis as an "exit drug" to the heavy hitters like Ayahuasca and Ibogaine. This leads to a crucial discussion, with Matt sharing his own transformative experiences, about where to draw the line between a professionally guided ceremony and the sovereign individual's right to heal themselves at home. The conversation also touches on the deeply personal question of using these tools to navigate profound grief, before zooming out to pontificate on the real reason these substances are illegal—as a direct threat to a control system that thrives on a fearful and divided populace. This is a heavy and deeply personal conversation, but Kevin's resilience and dedication to empowering others is a true inspiration. Despite the dark subject matter, the episode itself is a powerful white pill for the future of cognitive liberty. In this conversation, Shawn talks about his background and how he rarely asked the father for guidance. He explains how he is learning to ask the father what he wants him to do, and how he is developing his trust by following the instructions he receives to the best of his ability. Having grown up as part of a church community, he started owning companies from an early age.He believes that God allows us to experience all kinds of things in order to build our character and develop spiritual maturity. We discuss how squabbling among Christians, and in general, is harmful, and how he is attempting to change that through ActsSocial. We also discuss how Jeshua recounts significant events in his life in A Course in Miracles, and his willingness to engage with everyone regardless of their beliefs. God is love!

The Apostle Paul tells us in his letter to the Romans in chapter 3, verse 23 that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” It's true. We are all sinners and in need of God's forgiveness and grace. Early Christians began to group sins together, and by the 6th century, a list of seven sins had emerged. They were called the “seven deadly sins” because they lead to death. Others called them the “cardinal sins” or “capital vices” because they were the worst of the sins. In this series, each of our pastors will explore one of the deadly sins even as we give thanks for God's grace that frees us from sin. Today, Rev. Alice Whitson preaches on Envy. Our scripture reading is Genesis 4:1-9. Kansas-based singer/songwriter Aud Whitson is about to release her stark, authentic EP, “A House That Can’t Get Quieter,” on February 7. I caught up with her while she was in Chicago to talk about her songwriting, as well as the very DIY method she used to record the EP - voice memos on her iPhone. Check out Aud’s EP when it comes online on 2/7! It’s raw, real, confessional and haunting. ## Car Con Carne sponsored by Easy Automation: easy-automation.net Transform your living space with cutting-edge home automation. "Of this gospel I have become a servant according to the gift of God's grace that was given me by the working of his power." (Ephesians 3:7) "When it is time to know it, you will know it." That was a refrain Alice Whitson recalls her Greek professor using during seminary and that wisdom has shown up in her own life over and over. God's love and grace and forgiveness for God's people can be like that: When we need to know it, we will know it. Today's scripture was Matthew 2:1-12. Northern Ireland was a different place when Scotsman Kevan Whitson took the Royal County Down head professional job in 1992. The country was still enmeshed in the Troubles, golf travel hadn't yet boomed, and the club saw 1,500 visitor rounds a year. But Old Tom's layout at this low-key members' club strung along the Irish Sea has always been world-class, and RCD now rightfully claims its place as perhaps the greatest links in the world, as well as a fixture on every golfer's bucket list. Host Tom Coyne sat down with Whitson to walk through the changes he's overseen in his 30 years at the club, the balancing act between providing an elite visitor experience and serving the club's membership, and his memories of hosting everyone from Jack and Arnie to Rory and Rickie. Plus, Whitson offers a few points of advice for anyone gearing up to take on the 2024 Irish Open host venue, and lays out how Royal County Down may just be golf's answer to Emily Post, with every hole teaching players to mind their manners. Today, we're diving into a topic that will probably resonate with every parent: helping kids navigate the complex emotion of anger. And to explore this critical topic, I'm excited to welcome back the insightful Ginger Whitson, who will share her expertise while we discuss her book How to Be Angry: Strategies to Help Kids Express Anger Constructively. We know that anger is a normal, natural, and physiological experience that all human beings are born with the capacity to feel. Yet many neurodivergent kids struggle with knowing how to experience and express their anger constructively, and they are in need of strategies and non-shaming guidance rather than what so often happens – they are punished for their behavior. So that's what we get into in this episode — why anger in children can be so uncomfortable for adults to tolerate or respond to, strategies for teaching children alternatives to aggression, violence, or passive behavior, name assertiveness, the importance of adults stepping in as calm presences to help regulate a child's emotions and foster healthy coping mechanisms, and more. By equipping our kids with these tools, we can support their emotional development and help them navigate their feelings more effectively. Enjoy this wisdom-packed episode with Ginger Whitson.
