Who gets to imagine humanity's future beyond Earth, and who gets left out? In Episode 2 of Dances with Robots, host Ariane Michaud sits down with Nahum, artist and founder of the Kosmica Institute, and interdisciplinary artist Sage Ni'Ja Whitson to pose a question the space sector rarely asks of itself: not why we go, but who the going is for. Space has always had gatekeepers. From the agencies and billionaires who set the agenda to the cultural assumptions we pack along with the cargo, the story of leaving Earth has mostly been written by a very few. Engaging with Afrofuturism and speculative performance, Nahum and Whitson work in a longer lineage of artists who insist that story can be told otherwise: that a future off-planet could be built on care, imagination, and collective responsibility rather than conquest. This episode of Dances with Robots is supported by The Brown Arts Institute at Brown University and is co-produced by Consciously Produced. This episode is the second of two conversations with Ron Whitson, and it picks up where part one left off. Ron returns to walk through the remaining four of his seven timeless behaviors for presales and solutions consulting professionals: show empathy, have a conversation, practice humility, and tell a story. Each behavior sounds intuitive on paper. Ron's job, and he does it well, is to show exactly how technical people get each one wrong in practice. The empathy conversation goes further than the standard put-yourself-in-the-customer's-shoes framing. Ron draws a clear distinction between being in service to your audience and being focused on your own performance, and flags a specific mistake that catches a lot of experienced practitioners: when someone shares something and you jump in with "the same thing happened to me," you think you're building rapport. You're actually discounting them. The humility section is one of the most candid stretches of either episode. Ron talks openly about the early-career arrogance that came with knowing every piece of software on the market, and the slower realisation that telling an audience "I don't know, let me find out" can do more for your credibility than pretending you have every answer. On storytelling, the conversation gets concrete. Ron argues for plain language over technical vocabulary, and makes the point with a tight example: one company presented storage capacity as 300 gigabytes an hour. Another described the same capability as 40 hours of content. Only one of those stays in the room after you leave. Ben adds his own angle on the Aristotle trifecta of credibility, logic, and emotional connection, and there is a brief, genuinely useful argument about English mustard. Ron Whitson is Senior Director of Solutions Consulting at Thomson Reuters and author of A Friendly Human in Presales, a practical guide built from 28 years in the field. Green Dreamer: Sustainability and Regeneration From Ideas to Life
How does the outdoor industry profit off of “the wilderness” as an extractive, consumable experience? How have outdoor apparel companies benefited from sanitizing the history of national parks and public lands? And what does it mean to recognize the colonial mentality behind certain forms of exploration — bagging peaks, checking off trails, and securing photographs of scenic spots without going any deeper? In this episode, Green Dreamer's Kaméa Chayne speaks with Joseph Whitson, a political ecologist and the author of Marketing the Wilderness.Join us as we peel back the layers of the recreation-industrial complex — politicizing the idea of “protecting the wilderness” often portrayed as a bipartisan interest — and sit with what it means to travel, hike, and recreate in the “great outdoors” while confronting questions of complicity.Episode musical feature: “Eden” by Ryne Meadow
Buyers in a serious software evaluation sit through between eight and thirteen vendor demos, and most of them blur into the same slick performance, so the sales engineer who actually gets remembered is the one who shows up as a real human. This episode digs into the three timeless behaviours that Ron Whitson has spent twenty-eight years in pre-sales learning the hard way: be authentic, listen actively, and leave an impression. The conversation works through each one in turn, what gets in the way of doing it well, and the small habits that move the dial. On authenticity, Ron makes the case that imitating someone else's demo always reads as fake, and that in a market saturated with AI-generated polish, the slightly boring real version of you is more valuable than a perfect performance. On active listening, he separates listening to understand from listening to respond, and explains why putting the phone down and resisting the urge to jump in is harder than it sounds, especially for technical experts who already know where the question is going. On leaving an impression, he frames the audience reality clearly: when a buyer has watched a dozen presentations in a week, the differentiator is rarely the product, it is whether they liked you and whether the solution was simple enough to explain to a colleague. It also questions the lazy assumption that being audience-centric means becoming whatever the room wants you to be. Ron argues that you can adapt to the situation while staying anchored to a consistent set of values, and that giving yourself permission to say "I have not had that question before, let me come back to you" is itself an authentic move. Useful for Sales Engineers and Solution Consultants who are tired of polishing the same deck, and for leaders who keep getting feedback that their team's calls all sound the same. About the guest. Ron Whitson is Senior Director of Solution Consulting at Thomson Reuters and the author of A Friendly Human in Pre-Sales. He has spent twenty-eight years in pre-sales work, roughly half of that in leadership roles, and now spends a lot of his time coaching, mentoring, and developing solution consulting teams. It's an era of breakthroughs in Alzheimer's research, yet for many clinicians, it's also a time of profound uncertainty. We are currently navigating competing definitions of the disease, multiple new biomarkers coming on market seemingly every week, and the clinical rollout of new amyloid antibodies. How do we translate this rapid-fire science into daily practice? On this week's GeriPal podcast, we sit down with dementia experts Halima Amjad, Barak Gaster, and Heather Whitson. We dive deep into: The evolving definitions of Alzheimer's disease. Does someone have Alzheimer's disease if you have only an abnormal biomarker as defined by the Alzheimer's Association, or is amyloid pathology necessary but not sufficient to define Alzheimer's as per the International Working Group (IWG) recommendations? Where do blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer's fit into the diagnostic workup, and should they be used at all in primary care? FYI - here is my take on that question in a recent JAMA IM article titled "The Limited Role of Alzheimer's Disease Blood-Based Biomarkers in Primary Care." What's the role of amyloid antibodies in the care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease, including who to use them on? He walked away from a VP position with 208 employees.Bought one excavator. No real plan. Then learned the hard way that “booked out” doesn't mean profitable.Jeremy Whitson left a 21-year career in the automotive industry to build Whitson Farms Excavation from scratch. What he didn't expect? That cash flow—not equipment—would be the real battle. In this episode, Jeremy breaks down commercial work, stormwater systems, estimating discipline, and why too much work nearly wrecked his company. This one is about growth pressure, schedule chaos, retention checks, and building a team the right way.Takeaways:✅ Too Much Work Is Worse Than Not Enough – Overbooking commercial projects nearly cost him his reputation when rain delays stacked jobs on top of each other.✅ Commercial = Cash Flow Discipline – 45–90 day pay cycles and 5–10% retention mean subs are often funding the project.✅ Bid Like You'll Win Every Job – Don't throw numbers out hoping to land one. If you bid it, plan to execute it.✅ Know Your Daily Break-Even – Insurance, fuel, moving equipment, bidding time—it all counts.✅ Focus on What You're Great At – He stopped doing septic installs himself and partnered instead. Efficiency beats ego.Why It Matters:If you're running excavation, utilities, or site work, this episode will sharpen how you think about growth, estimating, and protecting your reputation in commercial projects.Links:➡️ Connect with Jeremy Whitson – Follow his excavation journey. https://www.facebook.com/wfexcavationco➡️ Shop Attachments at Skid Steer Nation: https://www.skidsteernation.com – “Build your business with the right attachments.”➡️ Marketing Help at Throttled Up: https://www.getthrottledup.com – “Marketing built for blue-collar contractors.”

Jesus asked a lot of questions. By one scholar's count, Jesus asked 307 questions recorded in the gospels. Jesus liked to ask questions more than he liked giving answers. As Jesus was both fully God and fully human, you would think he would go around showing off how much he knows, but he did not do that. In fact, we only find eight times that Jesus answered a question asked of him. In this sermon series, we will explore four questions that Jesus asked to better understand Jesus and how he wants us to live today.Sunday service times are 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 4 p.m. at the Mission Campus in Prairie Village, Kansas, and 10 a.m. at the Antioch Campus in Overland Park, Kansas. This week, Jason and Matt sit down with a member of the TFTP family, former journalist Kevin Whitson. After contributing hundreds of articles over six years, Kevin has channeled his journalistic and educational skills into a powerful new book, The Paranoid Mystic's Guide to Ending Addiction Now Using Psychedelics. Written after the tragic loss of his son to an overdose in 2020, Kevin's book is a tactical guide for individuals to reclaim their sovereignty from addiction using ancient plant medicines. In this episode, we kick things off by diving into the foundational steps in Kevin's guide—the radical act of reclaiming one's biology by fixing gut health, eliminating processed foods, and mastering sleep before ever touching a psychedelic. From there, we explore the different tools in the psychedelic arsenal, from psilocybin and cannabis as an "exit drug" to the heavy hitters like Ayahuasca and Ibogaine. This leads to a crucial discussion, with Matt sharing his own transformative experiences, about where to draw the line between a professionally guided ceremony and the sovereign individual's right to heal themselves at home. The conversation also touches on the deeply personal question of using these tools to navigate profound grief, before zooming out to pontificate on the real reason these substances are illegal—as a direct threat to a control system that thrives on a fearful and divided populace. This is a heavy and deeply personal conversation, but Kevin's resilience and dedication to empowering others is a true inspiration. Despite the dark subject matter, the episode itself is a powerful white pill for the future of cognitive liberty.
