In our year-long look at the whole story of scripture, we're wrapping up the first half of story today, as Pastor Cheryl co-preaches with Steven Byler. As we prepare for the turn into the New Testament, we are reminded all that we've talked about in the Old Testament. This week also marks the first week of Advent, where we remember the coming of Christ, and his promised return! The 400-years of silence provided opportunity after opportunity for the people to forget about the God who loved them (and his promises), but somehow in the waiting, God was still setting the scene for the arrival of the one who would change everything.
Christian, Charles, and Joey sit down with Blake Byler, from BamaOnline, to discuss Alabama Basketball's upcoming season and get his thoughts on Alabama's exhibition win over Florida State.
Collin, Doug, and Whitney are THIS close to exiting the Deep Dark Void, so this episode is a happy little free-for-all, as the tireless trio file one last show before Volume I of Stranger Things 5 drops. No topic is off limits – from frilly blouses to Byler to Oingo Boingo. Take a break from your couch re-watch and join us!
Collin, Doug, and Whitney keep prepping for Season 5 with a lively discussion about everything they DON'T want to see when Stranger Things returns. Byler? Mileven? Stancy? An army of demogorgons? Plus, Collin taste-tests the limited edition Stranger Things Chips Ahoy cookies, and we chat about the Duffers' departure from Netflix. Grab yourself some good ol' deus ex machina, and join us! Jiryu Mark Rutschman-Byler is the abbot of Green Gulch Farm as a co-abbot of the SF Zen Center. In the podcast he talks about Becoming Yourself, an upcoming book of Shunryu Suzuki lectures that he worked on with Mel Weitsman. First he talks briefly about Nicole Baden and Richard Baker's recent stay at the City Center and Green Gulch and Baker's stroke of a week ago. He reads selections from Becoming Yourself: Teachings on the Zen Way of Life and we talk about that and more. Most enjoyable.

We're back this week with part 2 of the long-awaited and highly-requested Byler theory. If you haven't heard part 1, we strongly suggest going back to last week's episode first! We sincerely hope we have done this theory justice, because we know just how important this is to so many ST fans, and specifically to so many in the queer community. Stay Strange¡ (this was an accident but it's staying.)

Strength to Strength welcomed Brandon Byler to discuss God's kingdom and earthly kingdoms, specifically American politics, and how followers of Jesus should relate, especially in a hotly-contested election season. In this meeting we'd like to consider several questions: Why have Anabaptists typically shunned national, political involvement? What sort of attitude should we have toward American leaders at all levels of government? Does the Bible give us any guidance for interacting with those in authority? Is there anything Anabaptists can legitimately do to influence the direction of nations? An interactive question-and-answer period follows.Recommended: YouTube video: “The Kingdom of God” by David BercotRecommended: “The Kingdom of God that Turned the World Upside Down” by David BercotRecommended: “Pilgrims and Politics” by Michael S. Those are our blorbos and they're crazy! This week, Emily and V take a trip to Hawkins, Indiana, and reminisce about the massive impact that Netflix's Stranger Things has had on the fandomsphere. (Is the Fandomsphere its own realm like the Upside-Down? Discuss.) From Mileven versus Byler to Steddie versus Hellcheer and Ronance versus -- well, no one's really against Ronance, Stranger Things exploded the shipping universe and takes fandometrics by storm week after week. And, of course, this show gave fandom potentially the most universal wet pathetic little meow-meow since Bucky Barnes: Eddie Munson. Do you Stranger Things? Are you a member of the Scoops Troop?

This episode marks the introduction to the recovery theme of the podcast. Betsy Byler, LPC-SAS, ICS, LPCC, joins me to talk about substance addiction, love addiction, and the difference between the two. We also discuss addiction from the perspective of brain science and how the brain actually changes the addicted person. It's a fascinating and insightful conversation. Before you turn the episode off or think this theme might not be applicable to you - there's a saying in recovery, “Everyone's recovering from something.” So even if you don't have a dysfunctional relationship with alcohol or another substance, throughout this series we'll be talking about recovery in general. If you are interested in personal development, I really do think that you will walk away with some nuggets of wisdom. If nothing else, you will understand what it's like to be a person in recovery. On this episode, Ben sits down with Data Analyst and Political Columnist at The Washington Post, David Byler to dive deep into the issues, candidates, and underlying political forces that will shape the results of the November midterm elections. Ben and David discuss the difference between Trump and non-Trump candidates, whether the polls may be as far off as they were in 2016 and 2020, and how Washington leadership may deal with a vastly different Congressional and Senate makeup come January. Later, Ben explains why the 2024 presidential election might look a lot different than the conventional thinking of how it may play out.
