President Donald Trump acknowledged there may be an “adjustment period” as his tariffs take effect, but defended his push to remake the US economy and declared “momentum is back” in a primetime speech to Congress on Tuesday night.“Tariffs are about making America rich again and making America great again. And it’s happening, and it will happen rather quickly,” Trump said in the longest-ever presidential address to a joint session. “There’ll be a little disturbance, but we’re okay with that. It won’t be much.”Trump’s address comes at a pivotal moment. Data shows new strains on the economy as factory activity stagnates, inflation simmers, consumer confidence ebbs, and stocks lag behind equity markets in other countries.Stocks swung wildly Tuesday following Trump’s most recent tariff actions against the US’s largest trading partners, with the S&P 500 Index closing at its lowest level since before the president’s election last year. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick hinted the administration might announce a pathway for tariff relief for goods from Mexico and Canada — two of the countries hit — that are covered by a free trade agreement as soon as tomorrow. For instant reaction and analysis to President Donald Trump's joint address to Congress, plus Michigan Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin's speech in response, Bloomberg Balance of Power hosts Joe Mathieu and Kailey Leinz along with Bloomberg Surveillance cohost Annmarie Hordern speak with: Bloomberg politics contributors Rick Davis and Jeanne Sheehan Zaino US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Scott Turner Senator Adam Schiff of California See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Life can be full of kismet. I just started doing live recording on ZubiaLive about chronic illness and trying to live a life and the site wanted to connect with LinkdIn. I have not been active on LinkdIn since I was a photographer. So I did my best to create a decent profile for Invisible Not Broken Podcast. In less than an hour I had gotten a lovely email from a Pain Management Doctors PA. who also has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. A fellow zebra who knows things from the other side of the stethoscope? I grabbed her for an interview the very next day!I had some other things to post but this is far too important. If you want to skip right to the point on pain management lists and what to do or say to have a better emergency room experience go to minute 26 and keep listening. We meander a bit but you will get what you need. If you have the time listen all the way through. Brian Purchia, co-founder of CivicMakers, was present at creation when the City of San Francisco began its pioneering work with social media. A long time media and public policy strategist whose career in public service began with the election of Gavin Newsom as mayor. Credited for a groundbreaking new media strategy at the time,Brian joins regulars Dustin Haisler, Anil Chawla, and Paul Taylor to reflect on how city governments can and should use social media in case of police-involved shootings that spark public protests. Our interview with Brian as a new new data tool designed to bring consistent transparency in police of force debuted in California (See a related article in the Wall Street Journal.) Brian also takes stock of the legacy of his work in developing the nation’s first open data law, open source software policy, and API for government. (Eyragon Eidam is on assignment.)
