In this powerful message, “RAISE THE STANDARD,” we confront the danger of becoming casual with the things of God. Every church carries a divine vision, and when that vision is lost or neglected, the culture begins to drift—losing honor, engagement, expectation, and spiritual fire. This sermon is a burden-filled call back to alignment: alignment in spirit, vision, honor, and responsibility. It challenges believers to move from being spectators to active contributors in the house of God. God is calling His church back to focus, back to hunger, back to excellence, and back to fire—with order. Not religion, not chaos—but a unified, empowered people who carry the vision together. This is a wake-up call to reengage, reconnect, and rebuild the culture of God's house.

Breaking casual Christianity - 9am.mp4 by Lifegate Church
In this message from Luke 6:46–49, we confront a sobering question from Jesus: Why call Him “Lord” but not obey Him? This sermon exposes the danger of casual Christianity, a faith that hears but does not act. Through vivid illustrations and Jesus' parable of the two builders, we are challenged to examine whether our lives are built on the solid rock of obedience or the shifting sand of empty profession. Real faith isn't just knowing, it's coming, hearing, and doing. The post Luke 6:46-49 – The Dangers of Casual Christianity appeared first on Island Pond Baptist Church.
Pastor Phelps preaches from Acts 17 on what it takes to turn the world upside down for Christ. Message originally preached Sunday morning March 29, 2026.
In this message, Pastor Karl opens a four-part Easter series through Matthew 11–12, describing these two chapters as the "hinge point" of Jesus's ministry — the moment when people moved from being amazed by Jesus to being required to make a decision about him. He frames the series around four responses to Christ: doubt, indifference, opposition, and ultimately, death and resurrection.Pastor Karl focuses on the figure of John the Baptist, who despite being called by God from the womb, boldly proclaiming Jesus as the Messiah, and living a life of radical faithfulness, now sits in a jail cell filled with doubt. Through John's story, Pastor Karl speaks directly to the "disappointed believer" — the person who has prayed, served, and sacrificed, only to find that what God has delivered looks different from what they had hoped for. Jesus's response to John is both a gentle rebuke and a profound reassurance: I am still the Messiah — but I will not always deliver what you desire. The central challenge of the message is the call to remain actively engaged in faith rather than drifting into passivity and disillusionment. Pastor Karl draws on Jesus's words — "blessed is the one who is not offended by me" — to invite listeners to release their expectations, trust God's timing, and renew their allegiance to Christ, especially as their community stands at a critical moment of growth and opportunity.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm
What's the difference between being a fan of Jesus and a fully devoted follower? Jesus never called us to casual Christianity. He called us to discipleship. And real discipleship doesn't happen from a distance. It happens through proximity, relationship, and everyday moments lived alongside people. The people closest to you may be the very ones God has positioned you to influence, not because you're more qualified, but because you're present. Shared meals. Honest conversations. Showing up consistently. Transformation happens when we stay close long enough for people to see Jesus through us. So who is your “one more”? The coworker, neighbor, friend, or family member already within your reach? Matthew 28:19 reminds us: “Go and make disciples.” It starts by getting close. Psalm 122 reveals the joy we should feel about gathering with God's people, challenging us to move from a 'have to' mentality to a 'get to' mentality about worship. Casual Christianity prevents spiritual growth and keeps us from the mountains God calls us to climb. We need fellow believers as companions on our faith journey, just as the Israelites traveled to Jerusalem together. Regular worship serves multiple purposes: giving glory to God, practicing obedience, guarding against spiritual drift, being formed into Christ's image, and strengthening our faith through God's Word. When believers are truly united, we become impenetrable to enemy attacks and naturally seek peace and blessing for others.
How did Christianity become this casual? How did a faith that once required surrender turn into something that rarely disrupts us? In this episode, Jon Ellis traces the subtle shift that took place in modern American Christianity; a shift from discipleship to decisions, from formation to momentary response, from surrender to convenience. This isn’t an attack on evangelism. It’s not criticism of church growth. It’s a call back to biblical discipleship. Jesus never hid the cost. He clarified it. When the cost of following Him isn’t explained clearly, faith feels confusing. Shallow roots develop. Comfort becomes assumed. And casual Christianity slowly becomes normal. In this episode, Jon explores: • How altar-call culture unintentionally shifted the focus from discipleship to decision • Why unexplained cost creates fragile faith • How cultural Christianity replaces covenant obedience • What Jesus actually meant when He said, “Count the cost” • And how to return to true, Spirit-led discipleship If your faith has felt heavier lately, this may not mean something is wrong. It may mean you’re finally encountering the part of discipleship that trains you. Depth is still available. Uncommon faith is still possible. And surrender is still the way forward. How did Christianity become this casual? In this episode of The Uncommon Christian Podcast, Jon Ellis explores the subtle shift from discipleship to decisions, and why so many believers were taught how to start faith but not how to sustain it. Jesus never lowered the standard. If your faith feels heavier than expected, this episode will help you understand why, and how to return to true, Spirit-led discipleship.
Send a textLukewarm faith feels easy—until it costs you power, joy, and purpose. We get honest about casual Christianity, why it's so common, and how to move from a Sunday habit to a life that actually carries the presence of God. Ken shares his past as a “Christian atheist”—believing in God but living like He didn't exist—and how that exposed the gap between form and power. Together, we walk through the telltale signs of a casual believer, from private faith and convenience-based attendance to tipping instead of tithing and resisting repentance, and we ask the question that matters most: is there fruit that matches your repentance? To help you locate where you are and chart a way forward, we break down four levels of commitment—community, crowd, core, covenant—and why planting in a local church changes everything. The core grows the Church through sowing, serving, and making disciples, while covenant multiplies grace through spiritual fathers and mothers, accountability, and honor for God-ordained offices. We explore biblical models like Elijah and Elisha, Paul and Timothy, and Ruth and Naomi to show how covenant delivers double-portion impact. When you're planted, you flourish: marriages heal, leaders emerge, and your witness stops being theoretical and starts transforming lives. If you're tired of a faith that feels nostalgic, irregular, and powerless, this conversation offers a practical path into a Spirit-filled, mission-shaped life. Reorder your identity around Jesus, build rhythms of Scripture and prayer, commit to gathered worship, and serve people you love enough to tell the truth. Casual Christianity is convenient; covenant is costly and worth it. Paul talks about not doing the things he should do, but does do the things he should avoid. It's a struggle as long as time itself. If you are honest with yourself, you probably do the same thing. There is, however, a way out. Todays episode talks about how to get out of the never ending struggle to do the things God wants us to be doing. Do you feel like a hamster in a wheel?

In this episode, Lindsey Maestas tackles the outrage and confusion surrounding Charlie Kirk's death with a bold Christian perspective. Why casual Christianity is no longer acceptable — lukewarm faith won't survive in a world that mocks conviction. Why celebrating murder is pure evil — and how Christians must reject a culture that cheers for death. The weaponization of memory & “martyr” narratives — how both sides twist a man's life and death for political gain. The silencing of dissent and free discourse — why cancel culture threatens both faith and freedom. God's uncompromising view on murder — the sanctity of life and the danger of playing judge. God's call to radical love over destructive division — how believers can be peacemakers in a fractured, hostile world. This is a wake-up call for Christians who are tired of surface-level faith and cultural compromise. With biblical truth and real talk on politics and discipleship, Lindsey calls us higher: to boldness, holiness, and unity in a world that's tearing itself apart.

For starters.. this episode is not at all about condemnation but serves as a heart check instead. As I reflected over this past year, I started to do inventory of my heart. I wanted to look at the areas in my life that reflected where I am in my faith journey. I wondered what ares did I become casual in routine. Was I really being intentional or was I just operating from my spiritual checklist? Most people think that faith is only believing in Jesus and the resurrection but that's just the start. We are NOT saved by our works or how much bible we know. BUT as you enter into a relationship with Jesus you should begin to evolve overtime and become a reflection of Him. We don't enter into a relationship with Him and just casually engage. It becomes a lifestyle. I pray that this episode helps you do inventory of your heart. I pray it helps you identify where you are in your walk with Christ and encourages you to grow. No matter where we are in life, how long we have been a believer and how much we know, there is always another level. I have also provided resources to help you do inventory. Worship Theme: Cancel Casual Christianity! Scriptures to read along with this sermon.... Isaiah 52:1-6 Cancel Casual Christianity! The people were sleepwalking through life, grieving many afflictions. Isaiah announced, "Wake! The LORD redeemed you and crowned you!" Psalm 90 - About this psalm, Martin Luther said, “Psalm 90 is a teaching psalm. Moses teaches that death comes as a result of sin, which is innate from Adam to all of us, even though it is known only by God and is hidden from the world. The psalm asserts that life here is both short and miserable, and could be called ‘daily death.' But that is surprisingly good, because we are driven to God's gracious help for deliverance. God shows us this deliverance by sending Christ. This psalm is a short, fine, rich and full little prayer. I Thessalonians 5:1-11 Cancel Casual Christianity! Dear Christian, live in the light! God did not appoint you to suffer, but to receive salvation through Christ. Matthew 25:1-13 (sermon verses ) Cancel Casual Christianity! All ten virgins were invited. Sharing your faith can be scary and intimidating, but for some it can be life-threatening. I'm troubled by how casual and complacent I can be in my faith, and I'm challenged when I see the faith of believers who live under threats, who live through violent assaults, legal attacks, and false imprisonment. Even more, I'm inspired by their compassion as they look beyond the hate of those who persecute them, and instead of contempt, instead of cursing, they share the love of Christ, knowing as Jesus did, that those who persecute them do not know what they are doing. They do not know the love of God, who would become flesh and blood, live among us, then take upon himself the sins of the world.I'm reminded of a song by DeGarmo & Key from the 80s. As the world darkens and evil strengthens, the temptation is to weaken and give in and give up in defeat. But desperate days demand devoted disciples. Now is not the time to hold back or shrink back. Jesus is looking for those who will follow Him with a whole heart and not slouch and slumber their way to the finish line. And in John 6, He shows us how.
