Welcome to the Powerful Content Podcast Episode 154 Speaking with confidence isn't just for the ‘naturals'—it's for anyone who has something to say (which, let's be honest, is all of us). But for so many business owners, the fear of getting it wrong holds them back from showing up, sharing their message, and making the impact they know they're capable of.  And that's what speaking coach Cat Matson is all about. Cat knows what it takes to go from feeling nervous and over-rehearsed to speaking with confidence and ease. In this conversation, she shares how to manage nerves, ditch the script, and create a real connection with your audience—without feeling like you have to ‘perform'.  Mel and Cat chat about:  ✅ Why confidence isn't something you're born with—it's something you build  ✅ How to calm your nerves without overthinking every word  ✅ The dangers of over-scripting (and what to do instead)  ✅ Why speaking isn't about sounding polished—it's about being you  If you've ever held back from speaking because of nerves, self-doubt, or the fear of getting it wrong, this episode is for you.  Episode Breakdown:  00:00 Speaking with confidence  00:55 Welcome to The Powerful Content Podcast  01:55 Acknowledgement of Country  02:12 Kat's journey: From performer to powerful speaker  06:32 Can anyone be a good speaker? Today's question comes from Cat Matson of Impactful Presenters.Cat's question is:I'd like to know how to craft position descriptions for virtual team members. I find myself thinking 'I need some help, and I want them to be virtual', and then I go down the path of 'what can a VA do', rather than crafting a PD (or a set of PDs) that articulate what I want. I think this is a great question and one that many business owners wrangle with as they grow their teams.Today I share the problem with the term ‘VA' and how it's messed up our thinking somewhat.I also discuss the similarly between virtual and in person team, but the difference between an employee and a contractor. For a deep dive on that topic check out Episode 77 – When is a Contractor not a Contractor:https://www.peoplepoweredbusiness.com.au/blog/When-Is-a-Contractor-Not-a-ContractorFinally, I discuss the fact that the same principles still apply, when crafting position descriptions for virtual team members. In this episode of the Digital Week we talk to Cat Matson, Brisbane's Chief Digital Officer, on the need for technology to become more responsible in the digital age. The CDE examines how digital technology can amplify existing human values and forms of deviance, which as Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz explains occurs because: “We live in a world of imperfect information - people who participate in the economy don't know enough about the decisions they're making, and that leads to all sorts of perverse or deviant situations in the marketplace”. Also discussed is the effect of the profit motive on the motivation to do good, the lack of appropriate regulation within the digital space, as well as how governments are ill equipped to promptly address issues of responsibility and accountability in legislation, which as Cat highlights is partly because: “...these platforms have become such a significant utility…if it's now a global utility, when will it be regulated like other utilities?” The responsibility of technology is a pertinent concern for the CDE, with more research being necessary to explore these issues further in the future.
