You are not going crazy... all of the weird and wonderful symptoms of perimenopause and menopause are indeed very real for many of us.
Hands up who had a perfectly mapped out birth plan, complete with essential oils and god knows what else was a good idea at the time, that never even made it out of the bag! Well just like those birth plans... menopause doesn't always get with the program. Today we welcome Shirlee Williams, a spiritual mindset and yoga coach with over two decades experience in the wellness space, who was sure she would have menopause in the bag. Her body however, had other ideas. Shirlee shares her deeply personal and inspiring journey through menopause, with a new partner along for the ride, revealing the challenges she faced and the valuable lessons she learned along the way. Shirlee's story highlights the importance of finding ways to support yourself through this transition, the significance of self-care, open communication with partners, and using affirmations to foster a positive mindset.
There's no doubt that our hormones can leave us feeling off kilter. Today we dive into the emotional rollercoaster that many of us are experiencing - anger, rage, stress, and that snappy feeling. We look at the common triggers, and 5 signs that cortisol, the sneakiest of our stress hormones, is wreaking havoc on our well-being. From real-life stories and client experiences to practical tips for managing stress, in this episode I have valuable insights on identifying the warning signs of burnout and steps you can take to regain control. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, tired, or just a bit off, this episode is packed with advice to help you find your calm and improve your overall quality of life. Key Topics:
If you're losing hair by the handful...you're not alone. It's another alarming gem of peri and menopause waiting to surprise us and a hot issue discussed regularly over in our Community. Welcome to The Hormone Hub Podcast where today we're looking at why it can feel that we're about to go bald at the same time hair is reappearing randomly on our face. There's usually an underlying reason (or two), so in this episode we look at the causes - from hormonal imbalances and stress, thyroid and auto immune conditions, nutrient deficiencies and even long term medications which can be the culprit. What's a girl to do? I'm here to share some practical advice on how to manage these changes. We'll discuss the importance of diet, specific nutrients like zinc and iron, and the role they play in hair health. It's about more than quick fixes; it's about understanding and adapting to your body's needs during perimenopause. I'll share strategies for supporting your thyroid, managing stress, and optimising your nutrient levels for overall health. Remember, you're not alone on this journey. Knowledge is power, and I'm here to help you regain the confidence that comes with taking back control of your health. I hope you enjoy this episode!
I am constantly asked about "the thing" that will fix whatever our big health bugbear is ... crazy hormones, digestive issues, anxiety, weight gain, hair loss, not sleeping, and so on. Generally, the answer women are looking for is the magic supplement or type of diet, or which dose of HRT, but the glaring reality is, if we want things to be different, we need to do things differently. Fresh from our latest Bali retreat I'm feeling very inspired by the pivotal role that lifestyle plays for us - and how we need to take personal responsibility for ourselves and stop looking for a quick fix or a band aid. You are not defined by a diagnosis, a health condition or your weight, nor are you a victim. You are NOT broken - our supermarket foods and medical/pharma system (think chemist chains) is what's broken. This episode is a call to action for anyone ready to break free from this cycle that often overlooks the underlying drivers that are keeping us unwell and overweight. You can't heal a body that's in a stressed state. My challenge for you... is to have a vision for your health, what does your future look like, in 1 year, 5 years, 20 years. How energetic are you? How mobile and active are you? Are you physically able to do everything you want to? Are you calm and relaxed? Are you happy? It's what you do today that your future self will thank you for. I hope you enjoy this episode! are

When you feel confident, you emit a positive energy that people are naturally drawn to. Feeling confident in yourself is NOT about having the perfect body or putting your life on hold until after you get around to losing that 10kg. Our guest today firmly believes you don't have to have the perfect body to have STYLE. Ohh YESSS! This episode is for every one of us who has had a “moment” standing in front of our wardrobes wondering what on earth we are going to wear. Our guest is the fabulous Jane Mow, a Personal Brand Stylist and Style Coach for women. Jane's ethos is what you wear is your business card. When you dress in a way that aligns with your personal style, you feel confident and self assured, which shines through in the way you show up in the world. Our bodies change across the different seasons of our life but this doesn't mean our personal style has to change. Short. Curvy. Tall. Wide. Narrow. Broad Shoulders. Stubborn tummy. Mummy-weight. Menopause. Jane's belief is that everyone has the potential to be stylish. So if you're done hiding under the baggy clothes, you can't miss this episode! Jane's years of experience helps women take the stress out of getting dressed each day by helping you create a wardrobe filled only with pieces aligned with your unique Personal Style and Lifestyle. The result? There's none of this, “ugh, what should I wear?” every time you get dressed. Instead, it sounds like “OOOoh, which items should I wear today?” Who's ready to feel fabulous??!!
I'm constantly being asked a LOT of questions about perimenopause... so if you're experiencing changes in your body that leave you feeling confused and overwhelmed, you aren't alone. Perimenopause isn't a sudden occurrence; it's more like a reverse puberty, spanning anywhere from two to ten years. During this time, hormonal fluctuations can lead to various symptoms, including anxiety, disrupted sleep, heavier periods, allergies, hot flashes, and brain fog. In today's episode of The Hormone Hub we look at why blood tests are not the best indicator of where your hormones are at, and why you need to pay attention to the signs and symptoms - even if you don't have a regular period! We look at… The 4 stages of perimenopause. 50+ common symptoms It's more than just about understanding perimenopause; it's about reclaiming control of your health and well-being. This season of life can be challenging but by prioritising your own self care… including diet, lifestyle choices, and stress management techniques can help alleviate symptoms and support you through this transition. I also have a free guide which includes: A symptom tracker List of blood work that IS helpful you can ask your doctor for. Don't forget that while it can be challenging... you don't have to do it alone and it doesn't last forever! Big love, Kylie x

Gynaecological cancers include cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, vulvar, fallopian tube and placental cancers. As with any cancer, early detection and awareness is the key to a better health outcome. Today on The Hormone Hub, we speak with Kath Mazzella OAM, who is a 30year vulvar cancer survivor. Kath shares her experience and the work she has tirelessly been doing to bring awareness and break down the stigmas of gynaecological health. Starting with... using the anatomically correct terminology. There's more to it than a vagina. The vulva is the global term that describes all the structures that make external female genitalia. Which includes the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, vestibular bulbs, vulva vestibule, Bartholin's glands, Skene's glands, urethra, and vaginal opening. You know your body better than anyone, so if you're experiencing symptoms that are unusual, please get it medically checked... What's NOT normal... Abnormal or persistent vaginal bleeding – such as bleeding after menopause, bleeding that is not part of menstrual periods, or bleeding after sex Unusual vaginal discharge (if it's ongoing ask for a swab!) Pain, pressure or discomfort in the abdomen Swelling of the abdomen Change in bowel or bladder habits Pain during sex Weight loss Itching, burning or soreness in the vulva Lumps, sores or wart-like growths There are a number of conditions that may cause these symptoms, but please see your doctor as early detection is always best. Viva La Vulva!

Emily shares insights into how kinesiology utilises biofeedback, muscle testing, and energetic healing to identify and release stress factors – be it physiological, nutritional, emotional, or energetic. We hear a lot about the connection with gut and mental health, but did you know there is also a strong connection with our gut and hormones too? Well to be honest our gut and ALL aspects of our health… but that's a story for another day! Today on the podcast we have Stephanie Grosvenor as our special guest. When the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause begin to affect our quality of life… we do NOT have to suffer through and just put up with it. Nor do we need to take strong pharmaceuticals that come with their own side effects. The good news is, there is a middle ground in the form of bioidentical HRT which is now also known as MHT - Menopause Hormone Therapy. In this “Best of Series” I'll explain the HRT options that are now available to us, AND why we still need to pay attention to diet, lifestyle, stress management, sleep and exercise. It doesn't need to be HRT or natural, it can be both! I want to give you the facts so you can make informed decisions about what YOU feel is right for YOUR body. I break it down into... * Diet and lifestyle considerations, whether you're choosing to use MHT or not * Who MHT is suitable for and when it's appropriate to use it * Why MHT should never be one size fits all. We look at the 3 different options available, depending on where you're at in your peri/menopause journey * The risks and downsides of MHT Links and resources: Brands of body identical MHT available in Australia and New Zealand (With full credit to Dr Lara Briden and her amazing book Hormone Repair Manual) Body identical estradiol Climara patch Estradot patch Estraderm patch Estrogel gel Sandrena gel Vagifem Low Estrofem tablet Body identical estriol Ovestin pessary Body Identical progesterone Prometrium capsule Utrogestan capsule For more about me and what I do, check out my website https://kyliepinwill.com Make sure you hit SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss a thing! When it comes to health, the term “inflammation” gets thrown around a lot… but what does that mean exactly and why is it exacerbated during perimenopause and menopause? In this episode of The Hormone Hub, I break down what it means to have chronic inflammation and the different ways it can show up in our body. Signs of chronic inflammation: Can last months or years Ongoing fatigue and lethargy Digestive disorders – bloating, IBS and reflux Rashes, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea or other skin afflictions Being overweight and having trouble losing weight Fatty liver, insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes Aches and pains Ongoing headaches or migraines Heart disease Heavy periods and problematic cycles Autoimmune conditions It is entirely possible to reduce inflammation in your body and the reality is that your diet and lifestyle is either helping to keep inflammation at bay or it's driving it. And of course… I'll share the details of the choices you can make!

If you've been suffering long term, unresolved health issues, then perhaps the answer lies in identifying any food sensitivities. Today on The Hormone Hub podcast we have naturopath and vice president of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS) Rebecca Lang. It's no coincidence that both Rebecca and I use a Food Sensitivity Test with every client as it helps identify symptom triggers for a range of conditions, including skin problems like eczema and acne, hormonal imbalances, digestive issues, headaches, joint pain, weight gain and even behavioural concerns like brain fog, insomnia, and low energy levels. In this episode, we chat about: Why we choose this particular test over other tests and why it's so important to identify the causes of inflammation? What areas do we see the best results in? Why compliance with this test is easier for clients versus an elimination or even a FODMAP diet? If you just can't pinpoint what it is that's triggering your symptoms, then you can't miss this episode!

Women with pelvic pain often suffer in silence with little support, often giving up after multiple attempts for answers and appropriate medical relief. Many women go under the knife - often multiple times - to treat their endometriosis or being prescribed heavy-duty drugs for period pain without noticeable improvement. Today on The Hormone Hub we have prominent gynecologist and fertility specialist Dr. Peta Wright who is able to give us an insight into how the current medical model is failing women and she makes the case for a range of other treatments not usually prescribed, including an anti-inflammatory diet, exercise, stress management, and therapeutic work focused on addressing the effects of trauma in the body. She is a big advocate of empowering women to ask the right questions, get the right treatment, and make lifestyle changes that bring about release from pain. If you have a history of pelvic pain, endometriosis or adenomyosis then you can't miss this episode. Dr Wright practices at the stunning Vera Women's Wellness clinic, outside Brisbane or learn more with her book Healing Pelvic Pain, available online or at all good bookstores.
As a natural health practitioner, there are certain things we know to be true. Just because something doesn't tick a medical box (and has an equivalent pharmaceutical waiting to be prescribed) doesn't mean it's not real. If you've ever been told that everything is “normal” and yet you have ongoing unexplained symptoms, it could well be something that is commonly seen and successfully managed by a nutritionist or naturopath. Leaky gut is just one of these conditions and today we are joined on The Hormone Hub by Prajakta Apte, a Registered Dietitian, Yoga teacher and a gut health expert. She practises functional medicine and Ayurvedic practices, an ancient medical system originating over 5000 years ago in India. Prajakta is a firm believer that Good Health starts in your gut and a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle practices can help a person connect their mind and body. This was a great conversation and we dived right into:

So what's the deal with everyone suddenly having ADHD?? Today we are joined on The Hormone Hub by Jules Galloway - a naturopath, mentor, and all-around good human. Jules and her husband James were both diagnosed with ADHD last year and Jules has recently wrapped up an Australia-wide tour presenting on Adult ADHD to natural health practitioners, and I can say one of the most interesting educational seminars I've been to in a long time! Fun fact… ADHD is not a deficit, nor is it a disorder. Some brains are just wired differently. In this episode Jules and I talk about how ADHD presents in adults, and how it can vary particularly in women. We look at why ADHD often goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for decades and how the current increase in diagnosis is actually a catch-up of missed cases due more to an increase in awareness and a better understanding of the different ways it can present. Many women are actually able to self-diagnose (unofficially) after sitting in on their kid's assessment and mentally tick the boxes for themselves! So if you suspect you may have a “spicy brain” this episode is for you! You can tune into Jules and James Late Diagnosis ADHD podcast HERE: https://latediagnosisadhd.com/
If you've been in my world for a while… you'll know that I'm not a fan of diets, because they just don't work. And if you're in my world you're also here because your hormones are on a roller coaster and creeping weight gain just might be one of your biggest frustrations…. So this might sound a little odd, but take a second to hear me out... Today's episode is all about Weight Loss Wisdom. Because I've been in your shoes before and I know exactly how frustrating it is. You want to put an end to this creeping weight gain that seems to keep going, no matter what you try. Then you give up after a week or two because you're just not seeing the results. I get it, I've been there. But I want to promise you that you WON'T do what I did… Jump on something you found because it seems popular online, or there's a celeb spruiking it, or it's some meal replacement or network marketing crap (seriously most of it is hype - save your $400 a month and starve yourself on Milo instead, same nutritional content...I kid you not!) Because doing that my friend, is going to keep you on struggle street. Don't get me wrong, I know that weight loss can be hard, especially once you're over 40, and who doesn't want an easier way? But it's only part of the solution. Focusing on losing the weight, without a solid plan of how to keep it off, just means it will pile back on (and then some) quicker than you can pour a glass of wine and put a cheese plate together. You're a smart cookie and you want to put an end to this constant wanting to lose weight nightmare without starving yourself to death. That's why I created Weight Loss Wisdom. It's the safest and easiest way for you to drop weight fast - without worrying about it piling back on again. You don't need to keep fighting the cycle of getting excited, hoping this is the solution, and giving up because you just don't see the results. Getting your frustrations off your chest feels good right? But you know what's even better? Taking action and feeling confident in your own skin again. It's easier than you think and I'm right by your side every step of the way. So hit play on today's episode and find out what it's all about… Learn more HERE https://kyliepinwill.com/weight-loss-wisdom/
Pay attention to what your body is telling you… This is the message today's guest, Alvina Nadeem wishes to shout to the world. At just 36 years of age, Alvina is currently undergoing chemotherapy after a 16cm cancerous mass on her left ovary was removed, along with a full hysterectomy. After the surgery and a full biopsy Alvina was diagnosed with a High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer, the most aggressive form of ovarian cancer. Ovarian Cancer is rare but is nicknamed the silent killer in the cancer world. This is because it has very elusive, non-specific symptoms, which means most women aren't detected until stage III or stage IV. It also usually presents in post-menopausal women, which unfortunately speaks volumes on how often women's health concerns are dismissed and not taken seriously. The stats aren't good…
If you've ever wondered why your allergies seem to be getting worse as you get older… It's definitely not in your head. Perimenopause can trigger a host of mysterious symptoms and in this episode of The Hormone Hub, we look at the curious link between estrogen, mast cells, and histamine. I'll explain why you can feel you're caught in a vicious cycle and how to find relief and regain control of your health. Here's a sneak peek of what we cover in today's episode:
Our special guest on the podcast today is Alex Main, a highly experienced Personal Trainer and Women's Health Coach with over 15 years of expertise in a crucial area of women's health that lies close to my heart… pelvic floor and core training. Alex's philosophy, which I LOVE, is that it's never too late to start and her core belief is that confidence begins from within. She firmly advocates that every woman has the power to heal and nurture their own body.
Somewhere along the way, we lost connection to what matters most, and the consequences have been devastating to the physical and mental health of millions around the world. But we can change that, and we will… for you, for me, for all of us. Women are never stronger than when we lock arms and move together to create change. Today on The Hormone Hub podcast I have my good friend Edwina Murphy-Droomer back on the show with an exclusive invitation to lock arms… with a grin and excitement in our hearts. Edwina encourages us to get back to basics and draw upon the wisdom of a time when we weren't so fragmented and disconnected from the things that supported us to live a happy, healthy life. So how do we do this?? By reconnecting to what matters so we can build that strong foundation under all of us again for the happy, healthy life we want. It is the foundation for a life so beautifully rich in meaning and fulfilment that we can't help but flourish. All we need to start is a single seed: when you wrap your heart and mind around it, nurture it, feed it, love it, and help it grow into the foundation that supports your life, you will flourish. It is a seed that holds great wisdom and the DNA for a life filled with meaning and joy. The seed from which a beautifully rich and meaningful life grows is called Connection. We know humans need connection; without it, we fail to flourish. Without it, we simply can not thrive. But it isn't just the connection to another person that we need. Oh no, my friend, it is so much more than that. It is your connection to the most authentic and highest expression of yourself, with what is needed to flourish from the inside out so that your inner world reflects the happy, healthy world we want for all. It is our connection with the natural world, cherishing and honouring the symbiotic relationship with every living thing on Mother Earth. It is our connection to a higher source, to the divine creative that holds all life in its hands… be that Mother Nature, The Universe, God, or another deity. It is the connection you feel to others in platonic and romantic relationships and to a community that offers a sense of belonging and purpose. With connection missing, be it connection to (1) the most authentic, highest expression of yourself, (2) your fellow humans, (3) the natural world, and (4) a higher source, it explains why many are feeling chronically uneasy. But step by step, reconnecting to what matters most, we can build the foundation for a deeply fulfilling and profoundly meaningful life. For you, for me, for all of us. Phew... Good news for migraine sufferers… our latest episode of The Hormone Hub has just dropped and we are looking at why migraines can worsen during perimenopause and what you can do about it. You know the deal – during perimenopause, our hormones go on a rollercoaster ride. Estrogen and progesterone are the stars of the show, and far out, don't they know how to create havoc! So why can migraines become so problematic during perimenopause? Menstrual migraines can be debilitating and hit us harder than other migraines. Estrogen plays a role in regulating our brain chemicals so when estrogen levels drop in the lead up to our period, it's like a domino effect – blood vessels dilate, progesterone and serotonin levels drop (they are our happy calming hormones), often leading to those dreaded migraines.
